Juliette Lewis in Naeem Khan at the “August: Osage County” New York Premiere

Posted on December 13, 2013

It’s like the universe conspired to grant us a wish we didn’t even know we wanted: Juliette Lewis in a big, glossy Oscar-bait movie, getting a shot to wear pretty much any high-end designer stuff she wants for the massive poledance involved in promoting it.

Oh, thank you, Santa Jesus. Best Christmas present EVER:

Juliette Lewis attends the premiere of  “August: Osage County” at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City in a Naeem Khan black and fuchsia floral embroidered one-shoulder trumpet gown with satin-corded skirt paired with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Rauwolf clutch, and H. Stern jewelry.

Naeem Khan Spring 2014 Collection

You just don’t get that level of look-at-me-ism from your average Meryl Streep co-star. Hot pink, sheer pleats and panties. We hope Julia Roberts was revolted. We want to see Juliette upstaging and occasionally embarrassing her co-stars right up to the Oscars front door. This is going to be DELICIOUS.

And you know? We think this looks pretty freaking fantastic on her, panties and all.

  • Would anything have been lost if the skirt were lined? I don’t think so! It would have been fabulous and I wouldn’t have had that distracting horizontal line of the boy shorts. If she had to go sheer I think the model’s plain high-cut undies were actually the better option.

    • mshesterp

I love it, but the sheer-with-panties look (AND PLEATS) is one design element too much. KHANNNNN! Stop that now–your stuff is usually so impeccable.

      Still, though–very Juliette Lewis.

…Just realized the model was wearing nude/light underwear. Y’all, come on already. The sheer has to stop.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Since the designers are so in love with the sheer, I want to see them wearing it-that’s right, designers, male and female, putting their stuff out there with sheer overlay.

      • Jonquil

I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to yell “KHAAAAN!” in anguish, but I’m am so glad you did. I am ugly laughing uncontrollably over here.

    • Amanda Welliver

I’m over over OVER the failure to line skirts. OVER IT.

    • gabbilevy

Actually, I’m going to definitely say the opposite is true. The sheer takes away from this gorgeous dress.

    • filmcricket

Agreed on all except that I hate the model’s panties more.

      • I know what you mean – I keep going back and forth on which is worse.

        • kimmeister

For me, the cut of the black ones is worse, while the color of the model’s is worse. I think black, high-cut ones would have been the best (if you’re going to insist on sheer).

        • kittenwithaquip

To be contrary, to me the white panties are worse. It’s unmistakable that those are panties. Big ol’ pair of white, (oh crap. I want to write granny panties, but didn’t I just go and on about how stylish my grandma was? However, I did mention that her undergarments were…sturdy) GRANNY panties. With the black I can pretend those are boy shorts. But still, why for the love of Mizrahi would you want to highlight your panties and/or vulva in your evening wear?

    • Zaftiguana

It would have lost it’s Juliette Lewisness.

(And I think the black, lower-cut panties are a huge improvement either way.)

      • SugarSnap108

I respectfully disagree. *She* brings the Juliette Lewisness. The sheer-with-undies look is a dime a dozen these days.

        • Zaftiguana

Sure, but she brings the Juliette Lewisness whatever she wears. She could show up in sweatpants and she’d be Juliette Lewis. I don’t think that really works as a barometer. Showing the Academy her classy red carpet panties while working a designer made a household name by the First Lady is more the ticket.

      • Rhonda Shore

Juliette always looks so ebullient. Love her in fuschia. I have no problems w/this look on her.

    • YoungSally

At least she remembered the underwear….or was wrestled into them by her handlers. Somehow I worry that she might choose to go without.

  • Sirs T&Lo have hit the nail on the head. The gift of the Juliette Lewis Oscar dress is just a few months away…!

  • Tracy_Flick

I should hate it. But I don’t. I think it’s the salesmanship. Not only do I buy this look, I’d probably buy a flowbie from her with that smile and attitude.

  • LuisaNL

She looks amazing! I love her, she always looks like she’s having fun, never afraid to smile!

  • beebee10

mix some cray, with some sheer, with some red, with some pleats, with some panties, then add some JL and KAPPOW! Merry Chirstmas Tlo!!

  • Ginger_Strings

I love her face! and the flowers at the bottom!

  • nannypoo

I think it would be fun to wear this dress. I kinda love it.

  • ccinnc

I wish her panties were nude like the model’s. Otherwise I LOVE this. It’s a lotta look and works for her. The sheer black fabric at the top of the bodice makes the dress.

  • SewingSiren

Beautiful , except for the obvious panty gaffe. Unfortunately it seems that that was the designers intention.

  • TAGinMO

Can’t believe I’m saying this about any outfit in which I can see panties, but…

I’m gonna go with WERQ here.

Though I generally despise sheer skirts, this seems to hit some previously-unknown-to-me “sweet spot” between transparency and opacity. And, contra some other BK posters, I think the black granny panties improve the look by making it seem a touch more modest.

  • Emily Dagger

I love the (visible, modestly cut) pants off of this.

  • PastryGoddess

The fact that I thought it was vintage Dior makes me want to weep and gnash my teeth in rage

  • Tatiana Luján

I love it, panties and all.

  • hughman

It’s all fun and games until Lewis gets [insert inebriant here] and forgets her panties under something sheer one night.

    • Leah Elzinga

      then it’s REALLY FUN!

  • PeggyOC

It’s a 75%. If that skirt had been lined or not transparent, it would be 100%.

  • Salasalu

Could not agree more! Reading your earlier Juliette post I was thinking to myself, “I don’t know why I love Juliette Lewis but..boy do I love her!” She’s a hoot.

Thinking of Julie Roberts seethe is warming my insides like Bailey’s and coffee

    • Qitkat

Mmm, Bailey’s and coffee. Perfect season for it.

    • Lilak

Ooooh yeah … Anything that sets America’s Sweetheart Emeritus to seething (or even to flare a nostril) makes my heart go pittypat — and the fact that in this instance it’s Miss Lewis? Divine.
This get-up makes Miss Roberts’s “dramatic” purple stuff look like Sunday morning services in the suburbs.
Can’t wait for the next episode!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m getting the feeling that August: Osage County is one of those made to get the attention of the Academy movies, with big name actors pushing and shoving each other on the set to make sure that they get their Oscar moment-but then, I’m just cynical like that.

  • Qitkat

None of this is in my wheelhouse, it’s not next door to my wheelhouse, it’s not in the same neighborhood, city, county, state, country, continent, or world. But in Juliette Lewis’ universe this is Perfection. But try to imagine someone like, say, Claire Danes, wearing this, and we would all be gouging our eyes out.

  • MilaXX

I don’t love it from the waist down, but I love Juliette so I’ll pretend that sheer mess is not there.

  • Pennymac

Wow. This is completely out of my comfort zone, sheer, pink, granny panties, embroidery. I LOVE THIS SO HARD!
    She looks fantastic.

    • kbshee

And she looks like she loves wearing the dress, which is really nice to see.

  • ojosazules

I want Santa to bring me a world where I never have to see the veiled inner thighs of a famous woman again.

    • Sabin

      Thank you. Heavens, yes.

  • LaSylphide

The sheerness isn ‘t visible on my iPad, so I’m pretending the skirt is solid. Looking at it that way, this is a pure, unadulterated WOW.

  • Ashleigh

amen to all of that, guys! thanks

  • annabelle archer

    Love it. Truly. Weirdly.

  • marlie

If the dress were lined, this would be outstanding.

  • Chuck Barthelme

She is looking better with age, I have to say. Plus, she just looks like she be fun to hang out with. I don’t know that anyone else could pull this off, but it definitely seems to fit her.

  • In_Stitches

It’s significantly less tacky than it has any right to be; I’ll give it that.

  • crash1212

Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d type: I most heartily applaud her choice of black boy shorts underwear over the white panties the model is sporting. I love this on her – truly, madly, deeply. It’s a beautiful textile and that color sings on her and I don’t hate the sheer. I would so enjoy a pub crawl with Miss Juliette.

  • Imasewsure

Love this. Wish she had waited and worn this to the Oscars though. Great great dress. love her

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I wish the pink flowers would cover her panties, but then it wouldn’t be a Juliette Lewis dress.

Oh, I love that bitch to infinity and beyond.

  • Shawn EH

The panties are black, as they should be! She looks great!

  • formerlyAnon

WILDLY not to my personal taste, but it looks good on her!

  • formerlyAnon

WILDLY not to my personal taste, but it looks fabulous on her.

  • KT

100% agree with everything you just said. Love the shit out of this.

  • Jecca2244

ilaria urbinati did a great job. thumbs up.

  • If Santa loved me, he’d give my the gift of drink with Juliette Lewis. I bet she is awesome to be around and she can wear all the sheer skirts and grannies panties she likes 🙂

  • kipper

I l like this – I only wish the top part came a little bit lower…. well, a lot lower.. but good on paper.. and she looks nice

  • Griffinqueen

The models panties appear to be white? That just looks like a wardrobe malfunction.

  • conniemd

What a gorgeous, gorgeous dress, it sings to me with its outrageous in your face look, so that I can forgive the sheer with undies revealing part. Naeem Khan must really love designing red carpet outfits.

  • Rand Ortega

My 1 complaint: She didn’t save this cractastic frock for the Oscars. I’m just praying to my plastic baby Jesus this is merely the icing on what she has in store for awards season & she’s saving the cake for that ‘magical’ night.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

This fellow BK will get down on her artificial right knee to plead with Baby Jesus to grant your wish. Can;’t you picture Juilette in a dress on Oscar night that will leave Ryan Secrest and company totally aghast and speechless?

  • Gatto Nero

    I can’t. With the panties.

  • Trickytrisha

Lovely dress, minus the bit where lady parts could actually be bared to the world if the wearer so chose. She seems to be so fricking happy to be in the spotlight lately. Kinda endearing, huh?

  • ashtangajunkie

I can’t believe how much I love this. FAB.

  • HM3

UGLY. Juliette is quirky and fun, but this just makes her look bad (frankly, it makes the model look bad). Cute hair and makeup, but everything from the neck down is a travesty.

  • jw_ny

Upstaging Julia…how much fun will that be for Juliette…and for us! Please don’t disappoint us Juliette! XD

I should hate practically everything about this dress, but I love it on her. My only quibble is that I don’t like her lipstick.

  • E. D.

This suits her but I agree that high-cut underwear would have been better.

  • rosanegra

She looks glorious!! I love that dress.

  • Jacob Bowen

A dress where I am drawn to looking at a vagina (albeit a clothed one) is not a dress I want to see anyone wearing…*shudders*.

  • stonecoldcuddlewhore

She can wear anything as far as I’m concerned.

  • quiltrx

What a killer dress! Wish I couldn’t see the panties, but she probably wouldn’t have picked it then, ha.

  • Bless.

  • martha

I would love to see this dress with black tights.

  • Brad Watson

I still think she’s Rachel Griffiths’ even eviler twin.

  • MannahattaMamma

she’s got some pretty fantastic arms, too, I’d like to point out: she & michelle obama could arm wrestle & I’m not sure who would win

  • merciblahblah

I CANNOT with the sheer, but no matter, because she has rocketed to the top of my Girl Crush list. And I don’t know what it is, but something about her in these pics reminds me of Christina Applegate, who is also on my list. I think Juliette is GLORIOUS.

  • AnniNoone

She has gotten to the point that she can be like, “Because I’m *Juliette Lewis*, bitches.” Love it.

  • I love her

  • Dagney

Love the arms. I am having clavicle envy.

  • Aurumgirl

Wow, the visible beige panty on the model is just plain ugly. The dress would be far more beautiful if the bottom half didn’t look like overstretched pinstriped and fishnet stockings, and would be improved so easily with a good lining. It’s loud, but it works on Juliette.

  • Kent Roby

This dress is one big flower short of perfection; as it is we are all doing a gynecological exam. Regardless, I’m loving Juliette here.

  • I dig it and I think she looks hot. It’s Juliette Lewis so it’s gonna be a little in your face regardless and I think this leans towards the “conservative” side of her norm, panties and all.

  • TweeAsFuck

I was SO not ready for scroll-down crotch.

  • H2olovngrl

Very striking, and she looks like she is having a blast which make these pictures even more enjoyable.

  • Fuchaforever

Oh this is perfection!!!! LOVE IT/HER!

  • ShaoLinKitten

At least she had the decency to wear black panties, unlike the model.
