Juliana Margulies in Pamella Roland at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation Gala

Posted on December 04, 2013

Great dress, but GIRL. That is NOT your face.

Julianna Margulies attends the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation 25th Anniversary in New York City in a Pamella Roland dress accessorized with Joan Hornig earrings.

Pamella Roland Resort 2014 Collection

We’re not quite sure whose makeup that is, but whoever she is, she needs to come and claim it. Miss Julianna’s a “strong lip” kinda gal and this ghostly mouth is doing her no favors. Especially paired with the weird eyes.

But a great dress, as we said; perfectly of her style. We think the shoes are absolutely on point (pun a little intended), but we find ourselves wondering what we’d suggest if she was in the mood for something a little less expected. We suppose she could’ve just jumped on the white shoe trend. A gray would seem somehow too matchy to our eyes, but we expect vigorous disagreement from thoseKittens who think we’re obsessed with matchiness.

That make-up is aging her and hiding her light. Could care less about all these, but man, how about the Good Wife? Just started watching the series and it’s amazing! Anyone else watch it?

    • MilaXX

I dip in and out, mostly because my tv show dance card is always full. I usually play catch over the summer.

    • alyce1213

Yes, it’s one of the best-written shows on teevee. And a great cast.

      • Nikko Viquiera

I agree! When people say that the best shows are on cable, I look to the Good Wife and know that they’re wrong.

    • Kate Andrews

It’s my favorite current show, tied with Mad Men. I just love the warring firms and the new Irish lawyer and all the Will-Alicia fighting this season.

      • Nikko Viquiera

Yes! And everything feel organic! The writers know what they’re doing!

      • Sunraya

You know the writing and acting is good, because I used to like her character, and now I despise her!!!

    • muzan-e

Absolutely. I missed it for months because the genre isn’t really my thing – until my husband insisted I come take a peek at what he felt was one of the best-written female characters he’d ever seen. Immediately hooked, and we’ve been mutually nursing a wicked Margulies-crush ever since. *g*

      • filmcricket

It’s one of the most feminist shows on TV, in my limited opinion. Before Alicia and Kalinda broke up, it routinely passed the Bechdel test, too.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Good WIfe is my must-watch show. I’ve watched it from the beginning and it’s gotten better and better as it goes.

    • GillianHolroyd

Holy shit, I am watching this from afar and this season is KILLAH, the writers have turned the dial to 11. I recommended it to a friend but told him he had to start at S1 so he is still far behind.

I also think she generally looks much better on the series ie, hair and makeup, than on the RC where she defaults to tight buns and harsh eyeliner.

      • Nikko Viquiera

She looks amazing on the show! Almost distractingly beautiful.

      • conniemd

Oh I agree. Her RC styling is usually much worse. I’ve thought she she hire the stylist for the show to dress her for the RC, because she always looks amazing and picture perfect for the occasion in the show.

    • Maria Parramore

I’ve blown through three seasons in a couple of weeks. Obsessed. The guest stars are superb, and the plot lines are so juicy, but also kind of restrained. I love it!

    • Anita Karenin

Even if the show weren’t incredible, it would be worth watching for Diane’s clothes alone. J’ADORE.

    • TropiCarla

Hell. Yes. It is compelling and brilliant. A must watch for me and hubby. We’re kind of obsessed actually — it doesn’t help that we live in Chicago. The writing is riveting and the acting is damn good. No bullsh;t waiting weeks waiting for something to happen and then ending on a cliffhanger. The characters are multi-dimensional and make you question your love or hate for them. Ugh — cannot say enough good stuff about this show.

GTNYF: Girl That’s Not Your Face. AGREED.

    YES to the shoes!

Is that top supposed to be sheer? Or are my eyes deceiving me?

    • alyce1213

The fabric, I think it’s organza, is semi-sheer, but I think it’s lined, so no, I don’t think it’s sheer. Maybe semi-opaque at most.

  • RussellH88

She can look awesome with very little make up. She has such a great canvas, but this is just a mess.

  • mjude

if only the makeup was better. I love the dress & shoes.

  • hughman

For some reason, I’m seeing a pale mint green shoe with this dress. And I LOVE that she lengthened it to be 50s starlet.

    • Sarah

Apparently she was seeing a mint green EYE with this dress. Mixup no bueno.

  • Tatiana Luján

I love the shoes. Red shoes would have worked for the look too, I think.

    • MilaXX

Only if it was the right red shoe.

    • gabbilevy

I’m thinking a very dark red.

  • Sam Smith

Her face looks like Julia Roberts, maybe its her makeup?

    • sienna elm

I thought it was a badly make-up’d Sandra Bullock when I first saw it.

  • MilaXX

That gray shadow is so very wrong for her. A smokey brown/black would have worked better. Conversely a simpler eye and a bold lip would look great as well. I like the black shoe, might have accepted a gray shoe, but would absolutely cringe at a white shoe.

    • muzan-e

Amen. I think my favourite look for her, seen ages ago, was a rich autumn-red lip teamed with just a thin wash of antique, ochre gold at the eyes. Stunning, and I might have been doing my shoddy best at imitating it ever since. Might have. *g*

    • CakesOnAPlane

Her eyes look positively teeny with this makeup. Such a shame, as she has such a regal face.

  • jtabz

Reminds me of the “put your face on in the dark” RuPaul’s Drag Race challenge.

    So lovely otherwise.

  • Imasewsure

What a great little frock. Like the shoes and hair… and then with the makeup… still a great dress!!

  • Jessica Freeman

It’s all so classy….dress, shoes, hair…..but the eye make up and nude lip, almost ruins it. Almost.

  • carnush

That eye makeup is a crime.

  • PeaceBang

Fabulous dress. I can see a teal shoe, but really, I love the whole outfit. The make-up is truly awful — the eyeliner in particular. Blend is your friend. Blend is your friend.

  • GeoDiva

Someone should be fired for that eye makeup, otherwise it is fabulous!

  • alyce1213

Love love love the dress, but oh the eye makeup and bare lips are awful. I love black patent leather (only BLACK patent leather– no other colors, please) so the shoes are fine with me. In the case of this dress, I think a pop of color shoe would be wrong.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

The amount of eyeliner is almost Kardashian.

  • marlie

Juliana looks lovely. These shoes are fine with me, actually; I would have hated a white shoe. But agree 100% about the makeup.

  • BrianaJC

She looks like a male Juliana Margulies impersonator. But, agreed on the great dress. I do think a strappy shoe would bring this a smidge further out of business look territory.

  • crystal76

When I clicked on the link I was expecting Sandra Bullock, weird!

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Who did that to this beautiful woman? The mind reels. But that dress…lovely!

  • Trickytrisha

Especially lovely dress. The rest is not her finest hour by a long shot. Miserable makeup, ugly shoes, don’t like the hair. I’m a huge Juliana fan, so I’m sad to see this.

  • tereliz

    Sad panda eyes. Great dress.

  • boweryboy

    A nude platform pump?
    Just kidding!

  • amaranth16

She looks fantastic in B&W, but if her eye makeup is any indication, grey — at least, THAT grey — is a dreadful color for her. I’d take most any shoes over those shoes.

Yoke is pretty, but does anyone else think it looks like wrapping paper?

  • Tracy_Flick

I love, love, love the dress. Minor quibble: I like the knee length (on the model) better, the midi is a bit stumpifying.

Don’t get me started on the two-peeholes-in-a-snowbank eye makeup. SJP’s makeup doesn’t look good on everyone. Hell, it even looks terrible on SJP.

  • therealkuri

I like the shoes she’s wearing, but I think a pewter-toned metallic shoe (grey, but not the same grey as on the dress) would look great, too.

  • formerlyAnon

It’s sad. Somebody got a dress that looks great on her, isn’t boring, and isn’t tacky. And then she got the short straw for makeup artist. (Yeah. Grey would have worked and probably looked better, more fashion forward, but I’m good with the black shoe.)

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

how about a snappy pair of grey and white shoes? or a subdued sparkle gunmetal peep toe pump? or for a real surprise how about deep green? red seems kind of expected.

  • quiltrx

ADORE the dress! So pretty, and suits her perfectly.
The makeup, I don’t know what happened there. Someone talked her into some “fresh” look and it just doesn’t work with her coloring.
I like the shoes. But if we’re changing, I vote for a black and white spectator pump. Because I effing love black and white spectators.

  • E. D.

    I hate that skirt length.

  • Perigee

This dress is crying out for both oxblood shoes and a makeup cleansing wipe for the face above it.

  • dschubba

I think this is Cate Blanchett’s second-day makeup.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I do so want to pluck the inner corner of her right eyebrow. THEN I want to fix that hideous lipstick.

  • Sunraya

I don’t actually like this dress on her. She looks rather short-waisted, so this style makes her look stubby in her abdomen. (I am not saying heavy, she is very thin. It just shortens her.)
I love how she looks in suits on the show – blouse, skirt or pants, jacket. I think she needs two pieces, not just the one.

  • RidgewayGirl

Remember that enough blue eyeshadow can make anybody’s eyes look blue. Maybe she’s just not wearing enough?

  • Fatima Siddique

Sandra Bullock. It’s Sandra Bullock’s face.

    • Pennymac

Thats what I thought when I saw the thumbnail.

  • cmb92191

I love the dress. And I love all the clothing on The Good Wife. I covet every piece .

  • MannahattaMamma

Silver shoes? Or pewter rather? I think we should start a pewter moment. Question: would that shoe count as a “high vamp?” Or is there toe cleavage? And: all dresses should have pockets. TLo should make it so.

  • Shawn EH

Let the lesson be clear: Margulies doesn’t do pastels. In the least resort-looking resort dress of all time, keep up the mascara and the vampire lips girl, please!

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

I agree about the makeup, otherwise she looks fabulous. Also, The Good Wife is killing it this season. Juliana Margulies is better than ever.

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

She looks so stunning with her black hair framing her strong face. If she’d done that here she’d have looked amazing. I don’t understand the blue eyeshadow and the loss of lip with that pinky lipstick. I can understand wanting to try something different but the updo is the third strike here. I love her though!
