IN or OUT: Kelly Osbourne in Paule Ka at the 2013 amfAR Inspiration Gala Los Angeles

Posted on December 16, 2013

Was there some sort of theme dress code for this event? Between this and Laura Prepon’s tent, we’re wondering if the ladies were all asked to find unflattering pieces from shady vintage stores where everything smells like cigarette smoke.

Kelly Osbourne attends the 2013 amfAR Inspiration Gala at Milk Studios in Hollywood, California in a Paule Ka gown paired with a Kotur Clutch and Chanel jewelry.

No. Not even on a cheeky, just-having-fun-with-it level. To our eyes, nothing about this looks good. This shade of red isn’t the best for her skin tone and downright clashes with her hair. It’s too tight, unflattering, not particularly stylish, and looks old-fashioned, much like Laura P’s dress. The bow makes us angry.

The earrings are cute, though. If she must do the lilac hair, we wish the dye job didn’t always look so drab and grown-out.

This might be our least favorite Kelly O look ever. We’re honestly a little puzzled that she chose it. Are we being too mean? We feel like we’ve come down a little hard on her. Then we scroll back up to the pics and go, “Nope.”

Bitter Kittens make the call:

IN! You’re being bitches, T Lo.

OUT! You’re so right, T Lo.

Evangeline Lilly’s cray-cray hair pushed the kittens to the brink and even those who begrudgingly liked her bathing suit gown wound up voting the look overall OUT.

This makes me angry, it’s so ridiculous. It’s the sort of pic we’ll see in Glamour magazine 25 years from now with the headline “can you believe women wore that?” and women everywhere will scream “no, we did not!”

      • tereliz

I just noticed she’s wearing those hair spike bars again. They’re working slightly better than last time, but just… NO. OUT. Sorry, Kelly.

    • Sarah

No, you’re not. It is HIDDY. I dislike her hair, but if she must have it, she should know that there is no way in heck it goes with Tomato Soup.

      • StellaZafella

There was a hostess in the “Faeeeancy” dining room at a BOWLING ALLEY that figures in my childhood who would have worn this very dress…and giggled loudly every time my drunk uncle pulled her bow.

        • Sarah

I wish I had ever been to a fancy bowling alley dining room! (I used the bowling alley of my youth to explain why I smelled like smoke to my poor unsuspecting mother). However, points to you for the drunk uncle reference. My own father was just such a drunk bow-puller, and constantly embarrassed us by shamelessly hitting on countless long-suffering waitresses.

    • International Model

Out. This red is a terrible mistake. I’m so close to dying my hair Stormer blue and but what is stopping me is “How badly will it clash with my wardrobe?”

      • Amelia

Dark blue is the way to go. That way it is like the hair equivalent of jeans.

        • International Model

This was needed advice – thank you!

    • PeggyOC

I can’t believe this is even up to a vote! Out, out, out.

    • Jessica Freeman

OUT. I am an avid bow hater, and this just justifies it. I do love the bird cage earrings though.

      • jen_vasm

That bow is like a giant middle finger to everyone who hated the front of the dress.

    • Jane Donuts

OUT. Oh god no. The lining looks like spanx. NO.

    • 8daysaweek

OUT. That back bow is giving me frown lines.

    • gabbilevy

Out. I’m fine with the lilac hair but the bangs continue to be awful. The dress… we shall not speak of it again.

    • Catherine

      OUT on the hair alone.

    • hughman

The Ghost of Anna Nicole Smith Past.

      • decormaven

        Nailed it!

    • Adriana

OUT. The dress is an unflattering shape and color. Nothing “new” about the design. Her hairstyle is cute but she needs to freshen up that color or at least get her roots done. The only things I like are her makeup and earrings.

      • marlie

This is probably the best her makeup has looked in a while. Too bad everything else was a “fail.”

    • Lesley

who gave her the right to sit on the fashion police panel? seriously, who??? …OUT!

      • tereliz

I feel like some of her actions lately are designed to somehow get her out of it…

      • Vickiefantastico

That fact in and of itself makes me so angry to begin with whenever I see this woman. Now add an ill-fitting dress, ridiculous hair (not even including the color in my critique), and that insane back bow, and she’s permanently on my Rational Hate List. WHY does she have anything to do with fashion?!?

    • Crystal

OWWWWWT. As in, it pains me to look at it.

    • ballerinawithagun

No doubt, this is OUT!!! Laura’s dress is way better than this!
I thought that all of the problems with your new site were solved and now these really annoying cough syrup ads are just popping up even when I’m very careful to not scroll across in any way. I know you have to make a living but these are really horrible!

    • Sara Leigh Merrey

OUT! There’s absolutely nothing of value in this entire look. Sheesh! I always question her style, but this is a new low.

    • RL McGruder

      LOVE the earrings!

      That is all.

    • Lily-Rygh

You’re being bitches because you’re right: she’s so obviously OUT.

    • annabelle archer

Hideous, ugly and wrong on every single level. That’s not too harsh, that is the truth.

    • jw_ny

      OUT…bad drag.

    • Nancer

Out. And I am so over that hair color. Have been for a very long time. It looks like grey hair with a purple rinse instead of blue. Not flattering at all.

    • Clueless_Jock

      Oh God. That bow.

    • frannyprof

      It’s visual vomit.

    • empath

so OUT. The hair — color and style — and the ugly, too-tight, spandex-showing orange-red lace dress, with a tragic bow feels like she squeezed herself into memories reeking of stale cigarette smoke, watered manhattans, wannabe dreams, and a walk of shame…. in 1978.

    • Evan

OUT. This shouldn’t even be up for discussion.

    • Warmheartedgirl_Seattle

OUT. Too long, too tight, hate the hair — I am so sick of that damned purple hair I could scream! Hate her nails, too much eye makeup … I could go on and on. Real big ole OUT.

    • lalahartma

Out. It is, though, kinda dragalicious.

    • mjmiller

out. I don’t like anything. The clutch is the least offensive thing here. The dress is horrible, wrong color for her, too tight, bad style! Her hair color makes her look old. Her makeup was put on with a trowel.

    • Carolyne

    • imspinningaround

I actually think this dress would be campy fun on the right person. Krysten Ritter, maybe?

    • Fuchaforever

You are SO right TLo!!! OUT!

    • MW

I really didn’t like front, then she turned around and I had to do stop myself from running away screaming.

    • H2olovngrl

No. It’s really bad. And I am about twenty posts over the grurple hair.

      • sagecreek

Grurple :) Ten points to you!

        • H2olovngrl

Aww, thanls! In the immortal words of Tom Petty, “even the losers get lucky sometimes!”

    • KinoEye

Are you kidding? OUT. I’ll take the earrings, though.

    • barbarienne

OUT. You guys are right on every count. When I got to the back view, that bow actively repelled me.

The only nice thing I could say about this dress is, “At least it’s lined.”

    • crash1212

    • In_Stitches

It goes to show how the photos you choose to present a look can kill it or save it because here, it’s an easy out, but the shot the fug girls used earlier today had me raving. The dress fit seemed to fit and flatter, her hair had an almost metallic sheen that played off the coral in a lovely way and the gold punctuations were the perfect counterpoint to keep everything harmonious. Here, well…none of those things are true. I’m gonna take the average of my two sets of feelings and give her a teeny IN.

    • sweetlilvoice

I was all set for an in because even though it’s an awful dress, Kelly looks really good otherwise. Then I saw the bow. No! Out!

    • rissa42210

      Out – dear, oh, dear!

    • Lori

OUT. You are not being too hard on her. I’m not sure it’s possible to be too hard on this outfit. With the exception of the earrings, and maybe the hair jewelry, everything about this is terrible.

    • Cheryl

Simultaneously dowdy and sleazy at the same time, as much as I don’t like it, that is kind of a neat trick. Is that her Spanx or the dress lining? Either way it’s not supposed to be wrinkly. I do LOVE the earrings.

    • paginatrix

I’ve been to that vintage shop. I did not buy that dress.

    • YoungSally

But Kelly’s hair would look great with that mauve/coral monstrosity that Wiig had on earlier.

      • sagecreek

With all due respect, the only thing that could have made that dress worse would have been topping it with purple hair.

    • sagecreek

So out. If you saw this gal at your local mall, and you didn’t know she was KO, would you give this look a second chance? I think not.

      • foodycatAlicia

well yes, but only because that would be pretty damn dressed up for my local mall! 😉

    • Trickytrisha

Sadly, OUT. That hair had finally jumped the shark for me. Dunno if my monitor is showing the red correctly, but it looks orange-red and that definitely doesn’t go with purple hair. Minus points what appears to be a Visible Bra as well, or maybe its just the lining folding up. The bow is the kicker.

    • Slanted & Enchanted

OUT. That dress is uniquely terrible.

    • DTLAFamilies

      Adult Video News Awards dress.

    • Nonmercisansfacon

    • Emily Brehob

      Definite out. Hardcore. So bad.

    • Ashleigh

thank you! Yes. BETTER DYE JOB! geez

    • kimmeister

OUT for all reasons T Lo mention. The bow particularly bugs because even some bra straps and bikini tops are uncomfortable to sit in when the hook/tie presses against the back; imagine how much that dressed would have sucked to sit in!

    • Kent Roby

OUT! Apparently she’s giving her tits to the world as a Christmas gift, but I shall keep that present wrapped and under the tree.

    • Constant Reader

OUT — for every reason you gave, plus I think the bangs are clip-on. That’s the only explanation I can come up with for why they look freshly dyed when the rest of her hair color is so grown out.

    • Paige @ LPD

      really? SO MUCH FAIL HERE.

    • ojosazules

The bow adds insult to injury. Really out.

    • Nika E

For someone who is a “judge” of fashion on Fashion Police she needs to turn herself in. This is a hot ass mess. From h to t, its a Girl, no. Im am sick of her played out hair, her stupid accessories and bat shit crazy outfits.

    • GeoDiva

The bow needs to be destroyed immediately. Ugh! I’m out.

    • another_laura

Looks like a faded 1970s photo of my crazy aunt.

    • Fanny_Trollope

Terrible, and that eye makeup is aging her about 30 years.

    • JuliaInBlack

OUT. I don’t like anything, not one. single. thing. about this look.

      • alyce1213

You beat me to it, my comment exactly. Nothing redeems it in any way.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Out. The earrings are the only good thing going here.

    • ChelseaNH

      Out. That dress looks itchy.

    • Anna_Cecilia

Ugh. Over and Out. This dress is like reliving the stomach flu all over again.

Why are these lace/paneled dresses still even allowed to happen. The execution on this one is all kinds of atrocious. It looks like a bikini bandeau, layered on top of a horrid lace bodysuit meets a maxi skirt. I’m honestly surprised one of those cheesy rings connecting the bikini bandeau panel to the maxi skirt panel wasn’t deployed in the construction because this dress has that kind of a look to it.

    • MilaXX

OUT for the bow alone. Even more out for wearing her hair up when her color needed a touch up & have weave hair that doesn’t match.

    • Boop

OUT for the hair alone! Since when is it cool to wear old lady hair rinse? Since when is Mrs. Slocum’s pinwheel of color a fashion statement? I get blues and purples, but this light rinse of vintage old lady reeks of violet water and month balls. The dress? WTF? And she’s on Fashion Police? The hand, girl, The hand.

    • nannypoo

This is hideous. I expect to see it on the end of the year list of worst looks. I hate the color, the fit, the lace, the hair, the manicure and the earrings, and if I could see the shoes I would probably hate them too.

    • Jangle57

Oh my god – you even have to ask? OUT

    • JulieK

OUT, for the bow. And that shade of red is all wrong, it’s cheap looking.

    • pugluv

Out for being too tight, poor color choice and, don’t forget, the bow.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Mah jongg at Shirley’s place in Boca at 5? I’ll bring the crab dip and the Virginia Slims.

Anyway, this is so OUT there is no IN anywhere near it. OUT OUT OUT damn polyester lace frock with hiddy bow and purple smoke hair!

    • deliadee

Dreadful, top to bottom, front to back. Out.

    • Gatto Nero

Horrible on all fronts, from every angle.
Even when this sort of thing was in style it was bad.

    • tereliz

Wrong color, wrong cut, wrong silhouette. I refuse to believe she saw herself in the mirror and thought this looked good. Weeping over the illusion netting and dying for those amazing earrings. They and Kelly both deserve better than this.

    • Janet B

    • somebody blonde

Out. This is a terrible, tacky dress.

    • PeaceBang

OUT. It’s the dress that Stockard Channing wore in the last scene of “To Wong Foo…” ‘I’m a drag queen.” All she needs is a mantilla. In fact, a mantilla would be an improvement as it would spare us that hair.

    • elizonthelam

      Out. Ick.

    • LJCdoc

      Out. Clashy, clashy, clashy.

    • Melanie Suzanne

      Nope. Nothing works. OUT.

    • Calinda_L

Well, now we all know what to wear to an event where the invitation lists the dress code as Nicotine Retro Shabby.

    • Jacob Bowen

Kelly, honey, I LOVE you. But you know better than to wear a dress that is TOO SMALL, on top of the fact that it’s not the BEST dress….OUT.

    • marlie

OUT. Even before I read the commentary, my first thought was “the dress clashes with her hair.” Plus, the dress is ugly.

    • SorayaS

Oh good lord OUT. The dress is so unflattering (no to mention hideous) and I’m sorry but if you’re going to treat your hair as a cool accessory than you need to incorporate that into your style choices- the colour or style don’t go with the dress. And the gold accessories are hideously tacky and the eye make up is too heavy. Could not be more OUT!

    • cocohall

One size up, whack off the bottom to make this a knee length dress and lose the bow. And change the color. Or find someone to wear it who doesn’t sport purple hair. Or just find a dress that actually works for your body type and coloring. I think she usually has a fairly good sense of what works on her body, so I assume this is a case of Fashion Blindness brought about by falling in love with a dress. In this case, I bet she loved the heart shaped bodice. And then her critical eye just failed her.

    • ChrisP

      OUT no question

    • Dagney

    • Jenna Marie

      OUT. Tacky, tacky, tacky. Gross.

    • conniemd

out a thousand times out. The dress us ugly and looks gawd awful with her hair.

    • foodycatAlicia

Y’know, without the lace, and up half a size, possibly in a different colour, this could have been something cheeky and sexy (as well as a feat of engineering). I love the purple hair usually but this is so faded, the style is unattractive and I think I can see her rat. So it’s definitively OUT.

    • luluransom

Seriously, we’re voting on this? Out, obvs. And grrr. That bow pisses me off too.

    • alyce1213

So out. There’s not a good thing about this dress, not one thing.

    • GTrain

      Nope. OUT

    • Fraggle

Good lord OUT! Even if I ignore this stupid hair (hate the color! hate hate hate it!) the dress ist soooo wrong and unflattering. OUT

    • trisker

Horrible all around — well not the earrings. OUT.

    • elemspbee

OUT. You’re so very right. and incredibly tame in your assessment. It’s also quite an aging dress. Bummer.

    • ReadBarbara

I think Kelly does the young/quirky thing “to perfection” as she might say, so it’s sad to see her in this dress that’s just not flattering on her and makes her look sad and frumpy. But with gorgeous earrings.

    • GillianHolroyd

Red lace is automatically out although the mid-back bow amuses me.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      OUT! You’re definitely right.

    • RuthGo

OUT. For all the reasons you gave. Too tight. Color totally clashes with her hair. Too old for her. Completely unflattering. A tragedy.

    • M. H. Leader

Definitely an OUT. How can she not realize it’s at least a size too small? Maybe two sizes too small. The hair is just a sad joke at this point. And the style of the dress really is dorky. Not a flattering color, not the right size, poor hair, overdone makeup. What is she thinking?

    • Christy Bishop Cricow

Out. And even more out because she presents herself as a fashion critic. Why would she choose this to wear? I can’t begin to imagine. It looks like an Awkward Family Photograph come to life.

    • demidaemon

OUT. Everything you said, plus her head styling is just adding to the dowdiness and her dress is too tight and unflattering.

    • bailey

      so right. out.

    • Lorelei_D

    • LaSylphide

Out. I don’t think a better fit would help; it’s just an unattractive dress is the wrong color, paired with dreadful hair and makeup.

    • boweryboy

OUT. The bow is the only thing I like about this look.

    • largishbearishAtlish

Out. the last pic, the face make up. She looks like a 60 year old chain smoking trailer park dweller going out to Denny’s for a special occasion (no offense to a) trailer park dwellers or b) the fine folks at Denny’s)

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Those earrings immediately brought to mind Angela Lansbury’s character singing “Goodbye, Little Yellow Bird” in The Portrait of Dorian Gray. That’s the best thing I can say about Osbourne’s outfit.

    • JauntyJohn

    • Kelly

So right, TLo. Out, out, out. The too-tight, ugly dress is bad enough, but then you’ve got the I-Dream-of-Jeannie hair with the pins showing. No. Just no.

    • Erica_Vuitton

I love the earrings & the makeup but oh girl NOOO to the rest that dress & the hair included ugh! As a total look its an OUT. You’re Fashion Police Kelly, you knew this was coming.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

      Out. Hot mess.

    • Judih1

Hideous on all levels – too tight, horrible color, terrible design, don’t like the accessories. OUT. OUT. OUT

    • Melanie

Out. That dress has a “HUB” (a Highly Unnecessary Bow). Also, I can’t get over how her hair color clashes with the garish red of the that dress. Egad!

    • ThesisMonkey

oh my god, this is up to a vote? did not see that coming. all of my thoughts are perfectly articulated in the post, especially, “the bow makes us angry.” big ol’ OUT.

    • quiltrx

OUT Incredibly unflattering AND clashes with the hair.

    • Imasewsure

You know what…I don’t hate this. IN

    • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

Oh dear. I can see her navel through the tight dress which is not cute (at all). That’s not a look I’m fond of, never mind the lilac/grayish hair.

    • kipper

WOW – I wonder what exact bet she loss that made her wear this – horrible.

    • Haley Buchanan

I LOVE the earrings. Sadly, the rest is a big old OUT.

    • bertkeeter

      • Melvis Velour

        The winnah!

    • brown-eyed girl

    • Big Bear

      In. Because because.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I would go so far as to say that’s a catastrophe. Is her hair donut sticking out?

    • MzzPants

      Oh, hell no.

    • semirose

OUT out out. No. I can’t. No.

    • anneland

It’s and OUT. The clash of colors. The cheap looking dress. The roots.
I am trying to convince 2 of my daughters not to dye their hair a Kool Ade color because of the root upkeep to keep it looking good. The only thing that slightly swayed them so far is when I said they have to pay for all the dye from their own money.

      • Eric Stott

Even if they used real Kool Ade the results would be better than this. Looks like someone’s grandmother decided to save money by skipping a rinse.

    • decormaven

Out. Bodice not flattering, back bow is all grades of wrong.

    • DeebaCee

OUT. Cut it shorter and hand it over to Lily Allen

    • Danielle West

      Out. AWFUL.

    • NurseEllen

This is so far OUT it is in orbit. You’re not being bitchy, Uncles—do not feel guilty, not one bit.

    • luludexter

OUTon so many levels! And Kelly, darling, if you insist on having your hair that color, know that there are some colors you just can’t wear without looking like a crazy old lady…

    • EveEve

OUT. Clearly she and her stylist are drinking some weird orangey-red Kool-aid. When will this lace binge end?!

    • gigi kennedy

      its horrid. OUT

    • Eric Stott

That last picture from the back is all kinds of nasty.

    • ovarB

Does the Fashion Police have an Internal Affairs department when one of their own commits a fashion crime???

    • Shawn EH

Frederick’s of Hollywood/Adult Video Awards is so NOT her look. OUT!

    • Jacqueline Wessel

OUT! I imagine purple hair is difficult to maintain so you have to commit to maintaining. If you’re not willing to do that then you can’t have purple hair.

    • lucyloo222

I just can’t with the lavender hair any more. It was novel for a while but it never flattered her coloring. The red clashes with the awful hair and the dress design makes her look fat, which she isn’t. Bad Kelly… bad, bad.

    • Danielle

      Ooooooout.Just… ugh. Out.

    • Deborah Lipp

      Frederick’s of Hollywood in too-small a size.

    • Jessica O’Connell

You’re definitely in the right here. SOOO OUT.

    • formerlyAnon

Out. I think the bow might be cute if the dress were : the right size, not orange, and did not have all that leprotic lace.

Wait, I misspoke. Not Out, OUT.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

OUT, the only thing I like are the earrings, and they don’t even go with any other single element (including her hair).

    • sleah_in_norcal

out. the bow is the final straw.

    • cheekypinky

And seriously? When you dye your hair a bright color, you have to reconcile yourself to not wearing colors that clash with it.
(Por ejemplo, I haven’t worn red since I dyed my hair fuchsia seven years ago.)

    • Lilyana_F

      So out…

    • Maya

how is this even a question? it’s terrible!
