Ewan McGregor for Glass Magazine

Posted on December 13, 2013

All we can ever do when faced with Ewan pictures is sigh.

Sigh.

We fear if we ever met him we’d make utter asses out of ourselves.

Ewan McGregor covers the December 2013 issue of Glass magazine in Dior Homme photographed by Neil Kirk and styled by Nicola Kavanagh at the Chamberlain Hotel in West Hollywood.

How come no one ever mentions his name for James Bond?

This is not enough. Ewan, why must you tease us?

Holy shite, he is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks boys, I needed that today.

    • Janet B

      *sigh*

    • Alexis Boucher

It’s been a tough week and Ewan has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Thank you so much.

    • formerlyAnon

I admit that despite the gorgeous clothes-ruining gimmickry, I really like the pool photo. As to Mr. McGregor, his genre of look works from 20 through 70, usually, so he’s got time for Bond.

      • marlie

Yep – it’s not too late for him to be Bond. I can keep on hoping for it.

      • Bridget Smith

It feels like this is his pitch for the role.

      • 3boysful

That’s a fun photo to imagine the “just before” story.

      • conniemd

True. Look at Bonds past and present, they have all aged beautifully, even after their Bond run.

    • Mona_Visa

I have so much love for this guy. He can do no wrong. He should be in every movie, from now until the end of time, amen.

    • barbarienne

A friend of mine was having her birthday one time in a restaurant where he also happened to be eating. When her friends sang happy birthday to her, he joined in and serenaded her. I don’t know how she continues to function in life, because my brain would have exploded.

      • Mona_Visa

Best. Birthday. EVAR!! That is so awesome. :)

      • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

        my brain just exploded.

      • Mary Carpenter

Oh my. In the words of Pam Poovey “spoosh”

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

That’s how baby Jesus’s are made.

    • Latin Buddy

Did they just ruin a Dior suit? :(

      • formerlyAnon

        I know. Physically painful.

      • boweryboy

Right? I recall a few years back Charlize Theron was wearing a gorgeous Alexander McQueen at the beach lying in the sand and surf. I almost died thinking “They just ruined a $20,000 dress.”

That’s the part of fashion editorials I don’t understand. How is it possible that they can do that? Do they buy the clothing flat out so they can ruin it?

        • formerlyAnon

I always assumed the designer signed off on terms for use of the clothes in return for them being featured – and the terms were negotiable, depending on the relative clout of the publication and designer. But it’s not like I KNOW that for a fact. BKs? I know somebody here does.

          • boweryboy

That sounds reasonable, but I can’t imagine a designer signing off on their silk Duchess satin hand beaded couture gown that took 160 hours to create being worn in a swimming pool or a snow storm or a puddle of mud.

            • Nicola Kavanagh

Actually we arrange it in advance with the press office who give us a press sample that we can use. Press samples are usually quite trashed by the end of the season after being on so many photo shoots so they are unsalable anyway. :)

            • boweryboy

So, there’s the real dress and then a press facsimile dress used for editorials?

Is there a difference between the two as far as fabrication, construction, etc.? Or are they identical and the press sample is meant to get beat up?

            • Nicola Kavanagh

There is usually only 1 version and that is the version that you see on the catwalk, but increasingly brands are producing 1 or 2 copies of each look so that the press offices in each continent each have a collection – or at least parts of a collection. These days there are so many magazines around the world and they are all competing to get the same dress. So to help this Asia might have it’s own collection and Europe has its own and the US might have its own. Competition is still fierce to get the looks and 1 dress could travel around the world several times in the course of 1 season. With menswear it’s a lot easier – a tuxedo is a tuxedo so the brand might make several ‘press sample’ tuxedos which can be used to send out for photo shoots and then multiple shoots can take place at the same time. If the brand work closely with you as a publication, know you well and just really love the celebrity you are shooting they may say, ‘don’t worry about the suit, do what you need to. As long as you let them know in advance!

    • DaveUWSNYC

Should be a WERQ – Whoa Ewan’s Really Qute.

    • Anna_Cecilia

Scrumptious, thanks! Yeah, if I somehow met him I’d be asking him what his favourite colour is a la Bridget Jones’s interview with Colin Firth.

The way he’s styled here sort of reminds me of his Down With Love character. But with sexier hair.

    • marlie

Just… WOW. He looks so debonair! I don’t know if I love the first or the third the most.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

I believe his name was floated for Bond before Daniel Craig was cast, actually. He jokes about it in his “Long Way Round” travelogue. I love me some Daniel Craig, but Ewan is in a class of his own.

      • jspark

Yeah I remember that too. I loved the long way round AND the long way down. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s nice seeing someone with that much fame and wealth having fun with it.

    • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

bless my two gay uncles. I needed this. oh how i needed this.

    • MilaXX

      *SIGH* He’s soooo pretty!

    • Jessica Freeman

Sausage Friday–best day of the week!

    • housefulofboys

Oh my God! I was scrolling down the first 2 pics and was thinking “Why don’t they consider Ewan for Bond when Daniel Craig is done?” And then TLo said the same thing! I am practically verklempt that I had the same thought as our mentors! Boy does Ewan look great in these.

      • Liz

I also thought Bond. And I know what you mean when you realize that you and TLo are thinking the same way. The first time I said “Attagirl” and TLo did as well, I was so proud of myself!

    • HM3

I hope that was a stunt suit, and the Dior didn’t actually get wet. Can’t get past how contrived and eyeroll-inducing the set appears.

      • formerlyAnon

I think that would be possible, here.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Thank you, Uncles. Over the years his ‘boyish’ has turned into ‘insightful’, and it’s a lovely thing to see. Just saw him in ‘Beginners’ and wondered why Plummer got the Oscar instead of him!

    • MW

Ah, my week has been made, thank you.

    • boweryboy

I usually get his appeal, and I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers in it but this editorial does nothing for me.

      • filmcricket

Have to agree, it’s not doing much for me either, and I lurve him generally.

    • aquamarine17

thanks, TLo! love that water picture! He would make a great Bond. i only just saw, or tried to see Skyfall and couldn’t get through it and had been thinking in the past few weeks that we need a new James B. I liked DC in his first but the second fell very short for me. This guy has got what it takes

    • luluransom

Jesus god, TLo, are you trying to kill us with hotness???

    • Diego!

He looks great but the first pic has too much Photoshop abuse!

    • Angela_the_Librarian

Sigh…I’m watching a series he did a few years back called Long Way Down (if you haven’t seen it: it’s a documentary about him and a friend motorcycling from Scotland to South Africa). It’s a fun series and there’s at least one (censored) shot of Ewan in a shower!

      • littlemac8

I know about this trip. Is it on Netflix? Amazon prime?? I wouldn’t mind spending some time with him on a motorcycle. You know he gets my motor going!!!

        • Angela_the_Librarian

It’s on Netflix. I think the first series is also up too. It’s called Long Way Round and they ride from London to New York (they go up to Siberia and cross the Bering Strait to Alaska).

      • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

Both his motorbike series are great. I hadn’t really been that fussed about him as an actor until I saw Long Way Round, and realised how much of an awesome guy he is – Like, a genuine cool, sweet, intelligent and caring kind of guy. You can tell he’d never f*ck anyone over and is a great friend, husband and father. How can you not like someone like that? As we Aussies would say – he’s a Top Bloke :-D

    • Erica_Vuitton

“How come no one ever mentions his name for James Bond?” my EXACT thought when scrolling down. Not totally sold on the highlights/dyed eyebrows but yeah… YUM!

    • KirFla

Thank you for that present, baby Jesus!

    • Andrea

They need to rake the makeup out of his eyebrows for the close-up. Otherwise, yes, Bond material for sure!

    • az67

      That last shot is ART.

    • PastryGoddess

Dear Santa Jesus, can I please have one of these for Christmas. I promise I have been exceptionally good this year

    • Imasewsure

I can’t stand SMOKING but he’s awesome so I’m ignoring it. Hope he doesn’t do Bond though. Too obvious a choice and I like the fact that he always chooses more intriguing roles… give it to Idris for the next ten years then retire the brand…

      • marlie

I’ve started thinking of Bond the same way that people think of the Doctor. I have no problem completely reinventing Bond every few years. I’d be happy with an Idris Bond for a few years and then an Ewan after that, or vice versa.

    • KinoEye

Among the many reasons I adore this site is all the Ewan love — the man basically started puberty for me in Moulin Rouge, and even more in Velvet Goldmine. His name should be at the top of the list for 007. Can you imagine the accent, the clothes, the softcore sex scenes? Mmmm.

    • VioletFem

He is sexy, definitely, as this editorial clearly shows. However, I think he may be a little too “quirky” (or whatever the male equivalent for that word) to be James Bond.

    • traceyishere

He is a gnome with yellow teeth.

    • ojosazules

He is too sweet for 007. It would just ooze through- boy can’t help it. Fried honey.

      • Denise Alden

I think you’re right: there’s nothing cold blooded about this lovely, lovely man.

    • ballerinawithagun

I still love him, but those yellow eyebrows look very weird! Not his best shoot.

    • tereliz

I MENTION HIS NAME FOR BOND ALLL THE TIME!!!! ARGH!!! People tell me, no, he’d be a better villain. And I’m like STFU, he’s BOND, BABY!

    • Kathryn T.

He and Idris Elba are my two faves for the next Bond.

    • LeelaST

Cover photo doesn’t look like him at all. Love the other two & love him – one of my fav actors!

      • Madam Von Sassypants

I was going to say the same thing. Never mind is the cover photo blurry?

    • MiriamMc75

Thank you TLo. Ewan has been king of my fantasies since 1996 with no sign of ever being dethroned. I live in LA and every once in a while will cross paths with a celebrity. I don’t really care, I know they are just people, and I leave them be. BUT, I have had panic attacks just imagining what I would do if it were Ewan I came across. I just adore him SO very much. Approach and appear as a blithering idiot, or refrain and regret it forever?

    • Clueless_Jock

That has to be the most beautiful tuxedo that I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

      • Gatto Nero

        And the perfect tuxedo filling.

    • Melanie

i have no idea what this magazine is or what it’s about but i’m feeling the urge to subscribe to it immediately.

    • venusvelvet

What a babe! I think he’s been my longest running crush – he just gets better with age. Thanks, guys.

    • Sue_Asponte

You’re right. This is not enough. More, I say. More. Can someone provide a link to the bicycling-with-dog photo please?

    • Akemi

I have met him. He is, seriously, the NICEST guy. Somehow I managed to not completely embarrass myself, or get arrested, but let me tell you, IT WAS CLOSE.

And believe it or not, he is even more stunning in person. *weeps*

    • Shug

      Umm….[excuses self] [shuts office door]

    • http://thatswhatthemoneyisfor.wordpress.com/ lizlemonglasses

      Oh. Thank you.

    • Joanne Abrams

Great idea for Ewan as James Bond, be still my heart. He is just plain drop dead handsome and seems like a nice guy as well

    • Gatto Nero

My first thought was “the next James Bond” — and then I read your caption.
      Yes — I’m speechless.

    • bookish

My brain went *straight* to James Bond when I saw that second photo. I would love to see him in the Bond role.

    • NinaBoo

TLo, let me assure you, your reaction could not be worse than mine. I met Mr. McGregor at a screening a few years ago, when he was with Jon Favreau. The 10-year-old I was with wanted to speak with Mr. Favreau, having met him previously on the set of Iron Man (could this get more LA?). The boy was a little shy so I walked over with him, thinking it would be no biggie. Ewan turned around wearing the most beautiful cashmere scarf that set off his eyes. Hair was artistically messy, eyes dancing, and a smile as big as the sun.

I fell out like a fool. Grinning like a puppet head, not responding to his greeting, laughing like a big ol’ donkey. I think even Jon laughed at me. Eventually, I pulled it together and started acting like a normal human being but it was too late. The kid grabbed my hand and led me away.

      • alyce1213

        Funny story, thanks.

    • Pennymac

The temperature at my house just rose a full fifteen degrees.

    • dharmabum8

There was a time when I used to get a lot of strange, disbelieving looks when I’d declare Ewan the hottest man on the planet. Not so any more. Way to catch up, world at large. That water picture…. I think he could bring a different element to Bond, the charm more boyish than worldly but just as potent. His smile is never not beatific and probably the perfect cover for a trained killer.

    • e jerry powell

      Swoon.

    • Carla_Charlton

Not enough time today to browse all of T&L’s new posts, but had to look at this one. Aaaaahhhhhhh.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

He is a tiny little man. Not James Bond-sized.

      • alyce1213

His height is “officially” given as 5’9.5″- 5’10” (which might be exaggerated a wee bit) — by no means tiny and approximately the same height as Daniel Craig.

    • siriuslover

First saw him in Trainspotting and fell in love. Fell in love all over again when I saw Emma even though the character wasn’t one to be fond of. Loved him even in movies I found disconcerting, like Eye of the Beholder or Nora (man, Nora). Missed my opportunity to see him in a London KFC when my friends when somewhere I decided not to go. So of course they got to see him order “wings and a coke, mate.” Le sigh is right.

    • Jacob Bowen

OH MY GOSH! THANK YOU SO MUCH UNCLES!!! James Marsden AND Ewan McGregor in ONE DAY??? TOO MUCH!

    • http://twitter.com/irmaladuce_l8ly IrmaLaDuce

I hope the next time a lady star does the whole formal-wear-in-a-pool thing also includes a couple shots of the star smoking a blunt.

    • vickilu

I love the story with these photos! “A woman! I must introduce my suave self.” [woman tosses him in the pool] “Maybe next time.”

    • quiltrx

Every film fan I know mentions his name for James Bond…but none of us are in positions of influence!
Thank you, Uncles…I’ve had a ratty sort of week, and this particular sausage sure hits the spot on this Friday!

    • alyce1213

I just flat out love him.

    • majorbedhead

      Oh my.

    • cowper

In the first photo, he appears to have Benedict Cumberbatch’s forehead Photoshopped onto him, but the other pix are great.

    • Mona_Visa

About the James Bond thing: When the producers of the Bond movies get over trying to make Bond into Jason Bourne, they’ll realize what a perfect fit McGregor is.

    • MartyBellerMask

If he were to be cast as James Bond, I might actually have to watch a James Bond movie. For the first time ever.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

A man who doesn’t take himself too seriously is the perfect man. sigh is right. sigh…….

    • lucyloo222

I am too busy fanning myself to give a proper comment.

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

I’d hate for him to be James Bond. That character is so gross.
