Diane Kruger in Valentino Couture at the 2013 European Film Awards

Posted on December 09, 2013

Well. It looks like someone was not going to be ignored tonight.

Diane Kruger attends the 26th European Film Awards in Berlin in a Valentino couture gown.

Valentino Fall 2013 Couture Collection

Love it. She’s the kind of gal who can pull off overdesigned dresses like this. Probably something to do with her coloring. January Jones could pull this off just as well; as could Elizabeth Banks. Not that it’s a For Blondes Only dress or anything; just that there’s something very “blank canvas” about her looks which grants her the mannequin-like ability to effortlessly wear hard-to-wear clothes.

We just wish the hair had some more drama to it. This was the time for a fat Pinterest braid, we’re thinking.

I love the color and actually really like the design until it gets to the sheer black at the bottom. I’d like this look much more, if the blue continued downward and if it was cocktail length.

    • BazoDee

I think this must have been breathtaking in person.
Marchesa – this is how you do over designed. Take notes.

    • filmcricket

I will never say “yea” to visible panties, nor to pinterest braids, but agreed that this looks pretty fab on her. Icy blue for an icy blonde.

      • EveEve

The visible panties are that one thing too much. Coco wants her to remove them.

        • barbarienne

Or at least wear beige ones.

    • joancarol

      Where’s her Boy Toy?

    • titaness25

I thought it was a pantsuit. I might have been staring too long at her legs though.

    • LaSylphide

OK, rule of thumb: From now on, I don’t want to see anyone’s underwear but my own (and I don’t really want to see that).

    • demidaemon

I just wish her head matched the drama of the dress somehow. Then this would have been a WERQ rather than a “pretty good job, girl.” This coming from someone who usually hates the sheer skirt trend.

    • manina

I don’t care for this dress. There is nothing wrong with her, she always looks great, but then print reminds me of a greek or majolica vase.

    • French_Swede

I cannot wait for this trendy “long dress with sheer front panel from thighs down” look to just GO AWAY.
That said, Diane looks beautiful, as usual.

      • BrooklynBomber

Agree. The fabric is so beautiful, but the leg sheerness grates.

    • rondele

Her hair ruins it for me. Why take a beautiful dress and then just say “Screw it” to the hair? Because she can, right? Sheesh.

    • musicandmochi

Agreed about the fat Pinterest braid, TLo!

Surprisingly, my first complaint is not, in fact, the annoyingly ubiquitous sheer half.
It’s the Kardashian Kontouring. Hopefully, it’s just awkward photos.

    • pookiesmom

I don’t understand how this manages to be transparent and frumpy at the same time. Do not like.

    • Jacob Bowen

I HATE that it’s sheer but I still LOVE this dress. Diane Kruger is SUCH an interesting dresser, as in that she is so blank that all interesting clothes work on her.

    • hmatz

I want to love this dress, because there is so much fabulous happening all over it, but I just can’t with that vagina arrow. She has an ornate, blue, beaded mini-vagina covering her regular vagina. That’s not okay.

Also, the hair is wrong for this look. It needed to not be so in her face, in my opinion.

    • Sunraya

I would like this as a shorter dress and no illusion netting at the top. I see vacuous and blank in the women mentioned. All of the women you noted seem so emotionless, which is ironic for actresses!

    • marlie

I want to like this, but I’m not crazy about it. The top seems a little bit too heavy, and I don’t like the sheer part at the bottom. The dress itself is top-heavy and makes her torso look bulky. Also – hair and makeup.

    • Jecca2244

i think closer up it goes too “grand ma” beading on her

    • sunflower

wish she would have had it lined and her hair and makeup aren’t looking so great here, but the dress is gorgeous

    • tereliz

I don’t know, y’all. There’s something especially cheap looking about that black netting, the way it’s all snagged everywhere. It’s only noticeable in the closeups, but I don’t like it. And I really don’t like the way the bodice is breaking up her chest, flattening her. All the visual weight goes right to the visible black drawers. The color is great and I bet the sparkle of the dress hid a lot of sins, but it’s not winning me over.

    • Tracy_Flick

I desperately want to reach through the screen and trim off that netting at the neckline. And maybe touch up her roots while I’m in there.

    • webslice33

      gorgeous!

Not sure the makeup is her color, but she’s pulling off a dress with Crotch Arrow amazingly well.

    • katiessh

urgh WHY the sheer?! I would have loved it if the underskirt just continued. seriously hate the sheer look, and yet it never goes away. that being said, i love the colour and bodice

    • Thundar99

MmmmNope. Maybe if her hair was doing something different but for me the only thing she needs to be pulling off is that gown.
