Cathy Cambridge in Roland Mouret at the “Mandela” Royal Premiere

Posted on December 06, 2013

We really wanted to give her royal fingersnaps and shout out “WERQ!” because she is serving up some chic, regal glam, but, well…

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge attends the Royal Film Performance of “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” at Leicester Square in London in a Roland Mouret gown paired with a Zara necklace.

She REALLY flubbed it on the hair, no? What’s with the yoga ponytail, girl? Disappointing, because she really does look fabulous otherwise.

Also: everyone went nuts because she’s sporting a Zara necklace, to which we say, good on ya, Duchess. Nice hi-lo action there.

I like the pony! It’s very “yes, im a princess but im ALSO a mom so im relatable dammit”

    • Scimommy

Totally! I immediately thought “That’s a very mom hair and face.”

    • seelebrennt

as a mother, a princess AND an entertainer…

    • greyhoundgirl

    • Levedi

I became a (foster) mom three weeks ago. I wish my hair looked that good. Heck, it didn’t look that good before I was a mom.

    • murt

I like how sleek it is too – she doesn’t wear her hair straight very often.

  • Clueless_Jock

    Such a beautiful lady.

    • Rhonda Shore

She is and I’m down w/her pony!

  • gabbilevy

We nag, nag, nag for her to do something anything different with her hair and when she does, we get this? You’re better than that, Kathy. She looks pretty great from the eyebrows down, though.

    • marlie

Even a sleek, smooth pony would be a great improvement.

      • NC_Meg

I really wish she had done a sleek pony with this. It would be a little different for her and 10000% better than this.

      • MisScarlett

Agree… I think a deep side part on a sleek pony would have looked fabulous. But I still lurve her.

    • misstressofsylar

this is the first time I may be in agreement with her make up. There’s still the dreaded eyeliner but she admitteldly looks fresh here.

      • Aurumgirl

All she has to do to keep things equally simple but bring things right up to date and look more glamourous is to use the eyeliner on the top lid, close to the lashes, and then switch out the blah lipstick for a shade of chic red. That’s it. Same simplicity, but she looks a lot less mumsy than the Queen that way.

      • murt

ya her heavy eyeliner really works with that dress.

  • xmixiex

what the… i thought the “but” would be whatever the hell her dress is doing, bunching up like that! was it a lot of wind?? maybe that also explains her hair?

    • There was a LOT of wind over the last few days. That explains the dress, but I think the hair was pretty much deliberate.

  • marlie

I loved everything about this, EXCEPT the hair. And I *love* that she’s wearing a Zara necklace. She’s also wearing a dress that she’s worn before (another reason for me to love her). I’m so glad she’s picking out Bill’s tuxedos now… no more of that double breasted nonsense.

  • ojosazules

She supposedly has a new hair person. If this is the result, not so good.

  • Alexis Boucher

I saw a picture earlier where I guess she and Bill were meeting the stars of the movie. She looked very excited to meet Idris. Like fangirling excited. Not that I can blame her.

    • marlie

I know! That was rather adorable.

    • filmcricket

Aw, I’d love to see that. I saw a couple where Naomie Harris was grinning a thousand watts to meet her. It was also very cute.

    • Danielle

I think I would have the exact same expression on my face if I knew Idris was within a 50 mile radius of my person!

    • decormaven

      The lady has good taste!

  • Jecca2244

her hair styling has been really bad recently. her hair just looks so sad. maybe having a baby strips the nutrients from your hair?

    • LJCdoc

It kind of does. Your hair does really weird things while you’re pregnant, then it starts falling out like crazy after the baby is born.

      • Jessica Goldstein

Mine got thinner and straighter. It took a year to get back to normal. Quite depressing.

        • MilaXX

A friend of mine had to cut her 4 year old dreadlocs because the roots were too thin to support the weight.

    • They are little parasites – the baby gets the best of everything, leaving mama with bad teeth and thin hair.

      • kittenwithaquip

Word. 2 kids in 18 months meant 2 root canals for me and hair that came back really flippy and with weird waves. I love my little parasites, but wasn’t it enough to ruin my tits and gut?

        • And then they destroy your peace of mind for the next 45 years. Or so my mother tells me!

  • thesixthbeatle

    Step away from the eyeliner.

  • jw_ny

i like a good messy up-do…this ain’t one tho. Still, she looks pretty amazing.

  • rosie5215

I salute her hi-lo tendencies, and I know she can’t win with the UK tabloids, but man if I was in her position every time I left the house, I’d be like DIAMONDS (and emeralds and sapphires) PLZ.

  • bellafigura1

The hair is like one small inconsequential attempt to funk up that very terrible, ivory, icky beige big dress she is wearing, with the wrong shoes I might add, ugh. Zara indeed. Unredeemable.

  • If I want to look at costume jewelry, I’ll look in my jewelry box. Get Rainbow High already, Duchess!

  • schadenfreudelicious

She just met Idris, i’d be a little flustered too!

  • MilaXX

It seems the new hair stylist is not as goof a talky old stylist was. I also think the hair color looks a teeny bit one dimensional.

  • Oooh, I likey.

  • Verascity

I actually love it. She looks great to me.

  • Jessica Freeman

I really loved her hair from the side, but from the front it’s a bit sloppy. She nailed the rest, as usual. I really feel like this is a well deployed slit, its nice to see something a bit more tasteful.

  • Kayemwhy yo

Is she using a hair stylist? I heard he was fired for posting photos on his website.

  • Danielle

BRB, putting my hair in this ponytail for my night out tonight. If Cathy can wear it, so can I.

  • Tatiana Luján

I thought the necklace was made of real diamonds. She’s a princess (or duches or whatever), it looks like the real thing on her.

    • conniemd

It isn’t? Funny, I thought it looked like rhinestones but figured she’d be wearing real stones. If I ever say anyone I actually knew wearing it, I’d consider it fake. Does a duchess wear fake diamonds?

      • Tatiana Luján

        Apparently, she does.

  • Jumpingjacks

The dress is a tad boring me thinks, but given the occasion (and person wearing it) a respectable choice.
I bet the Zara was very very happy when they saw these pictures and ordered a few thousand more necklaces to be shipped to the UK

    • alyce1213

I understand it’s already sold out.

  • ashtangajunkie

    Just gorgeous.

  • marcia miller

gorgeous, royal, classy. love the look. I think all she had to do was make it a low pony, and I’d have been happier. Otherwise total thumbs up. Wish the young girls nowadays would like to her for fashion.

  • alyce1213

My only problem with the ponytail is the loose hanging hair. It should have been entirely pulled back, would be très elegante. Otherwise, lovely as usual.

  • sleepycat

I am still trying to figure out what makes her so radiant all the time. I swear I don’t understand. Don’t like the hair, but kinda can see where it was going.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes, the hair keeps this from being a WERQ-too bad.

  • GeoDiva

    Yup… It’s the hair.

  • I was more distracted by the boring shoes than the yoga hair. Fierce shoes would have made the yoga hair work.

  • Cadence Woodland

Sue me, I liked the tied-back-with-a-velvet-ribbon approach. Very British prep. I think this dress (2nd time she’s worn I think?) is one of her best pieces.

  • golden_valley

She dresses the way I would if I were her age, size and with her wealth. Problem is I’m 53. Why is this lovely woman dressing like me?

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I was thinking the SAME THING. I know she needs to dress like a Queen – or well whatever you call her when her spouse is King- but her clothes, while elegant, seem too middle aged for me, even with the need for decorum and restraint.

  • Kirstin McAulay

the ribbon tied pony is a really English thing… least it wasn’t the curls hiding the lovely neckline!

  • GillianHolroyd

No, I like the hair. I’ve seen it elsewhere from a different angle and like the volume. I think one side of it (her left) collapsed tho’.

  • Claudia Berry

Ya know, considering she wore her hair the same damn way for thirteen billion years, I will totally encourage her experimenting, although it did need a bit more sass. love the Zara necklace!

  • myristica_fragrans

ugh, no to the hair, shoes, and makeup.

  • I think she looks great, and don’t mind the hair. To be fair, I’m probably still recovering from that horrible sausage curl moment.

  • bertkeeter

Not loving that necklace with that neckline…better w /o!

  • Sam Smith

I think she looks great, the only complaint I have is her double clutch of the clutch pose that she seems wedded to. Her repeated double clutch pose makes her look lacking in confidence. She looks great when she just hold the clutch in one hand.

    • Adriana_Paula

She has to show off The Ring; people will flip out if they can’t see The Ring. Can’t be much fun for her.

  • She looks good. The necklace really brings out the dress, and I don’t mind the hair.

  • BuffaloBarbara

Maybe she had her hair perfectly coiffed, but five minutes before she left, the baby pulled out all the pins, and there was time for was the yoga ponytail? Yeah. Makes sense to me!

  • webslice33

    royal werq!

  • p_capet

    just beautiful
