Abigail Breslin in Beverly Hills

Posted on December 18, 2013

It’s always enlightening when you compare a starlet’s red carpet choices with her street wear. Yesterday, we featured Miss Abigail in a skin-tight, partially sheer, “I AM ALL GROWN UP NOW” dress and the consensus was that it didn’t suit her at all. Now we know why:

Abigail Breslin spotted leaving Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, California.

She secretly wants to be Stevie Nicks.

Girl, you should go with that. It’s much better than shoving your uniboob in everyone’s face and it feels more like it’s coming from the real you, rather than some sort of sexy, grownup image you’re trying to get across. You need to find better ways to pair up boots, a bag, and a jacket, but otherwise, this outfit is a good start. Just translate this style to your more formal public appearances. Switch out the platform boots for platform shoes, find yourself a filmy, sheer, fortune-teller’s dress with a handkerchief hem, put on a couple dozen scarves, and spin, spin, spin your way down that red carpet.

OMG… she is trying too hard! I can’t with this… it’s too much. Girl, please burn everything you are wearing and all the clothes, bags and shoes you have in your closet(s) and start fresh. You may keep this jacket for Sundays morning only. You’re welcome.

I can’t even believe it’s the same girl! Embrace the bohemian look, it so works for you!

    • It makes me wish her hair was the same color it was in Ender’s Game. It suited her coloring so well, and it would look fabulous against that teal dress.

  • epenthesis

    Cute and charming.

  • Danielle

I want to put some leave-in conditioner on those ends, but otherwise she looks pretty great.

  • sagecreek

So cute! She looks unhappy though, maybe thinking about that other get-up she wore.

  • quiltrx

She definitely needs to find her OWN style for the RC. It’s too all over the place, and you can tell people are pulling her in different directions. She looks really cute here…and I totally agree that if this is her style, she should work with it.

  • Anna_Cecilia

I made some pretty fucked up fashion choices when I was (on the edge of) 17 too, luckily not in public beyond my high school and without maximum photographic evidence.

But yes, if she could make some friends with gays who are well-versed in bohemian styling while taking into account her curvy figure, she could make it work.

    • Sarah

Edge of 17: Stevie Nicks! I see what you did there!

      • demidaemon

DOH! I got it just now. I feel like a failure of a Stevie Nicks fan. 🙁

        • Sarah

It is a deep cut, man. Stevie forgives all her devoted children.

          • demidaemon

I will prostrate myself at her altar tonight in penitence.

      • Anna_Cecilia

Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make that reference. Funnily enough, as I was writing that comment Rhiannon came on Songza.

        • Sarah

          Spooky! She KNOWS.

        • Mona_Visa

It was pretty perfect. And Rhiannon is great. My favorite song — of all time, all artists– was Sara.

          • Sarah

Oh, I love that song too. (Now that it’s not popular anymore and people don’t sing it at me whenever they meet me)

  • Tatiana Luján

I don’t like the dress or the boots, but theese clothes seem to fit her personality a lot better than the ones she’s sported on the red carpet and that fit matters.

  • Mona_Visa

Stevie Nicks as a style icon could be really fun, Abigail… She wore some pretty fabulous hats!

    • Shawn EH

      She still does!

      • Mona_Visa

Yes! Absolutely true. I was using past tense because I am sleep-deprived.

        • demidaemon

I am so with you there. So with you.

  • Clueless_Jock

She should wear vintage Zandra Rhoades.

    • No surprise, given how much I like this look, that I have coveted Zandra Rhoades since I came across her stuff in Bloomingdales way back in my youth. Never earned enough to make that dream come true but I still look in all consignments shops for her on the slim chance I can afford something “gently used.”

    • DTLAFamilies

I’d never heard of Rhodes but I googled and love the dresses! I could never pull that stuff off but it’s gorgeous and would look great on Breslin.

    • alyce1213

Yes indeed. And I think she’s young enough to rock some vintage Betsey Johnson too, for even more fun. Those shapes flatter her body.

      • Shawn EH

I hope she’s at least met Betsey, at some front row, somewhere!

    • I was once shoe shopping drunk and advised Zandra Rhodes to buy a pair of sequinned sneakers. I was very persuasive and she was very gracious.

  • I wholeheartedly adore this, but then again, I also secretly want to be Stevie Nicks. I’d wear the crap out of this whole ensemble.

  • annabelle archer

She dresses the way, a couple of years ago, I would have expected Miley to dress; a little bit country, a little bit rockin’ roll.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

If you replaced those boots with Doc’s that could be me circa .. well, anytime in the last 3 or 4 decades up to and including last week, but she looks really cute here and much more comfy than she has been looking on the red carpet in the last few months.

  • sojourneryouth

Rock on, Gold Dust Woman! The boots are ridic, but I actually like the dress on her. All she needs is a tambourine.

  • Melanie

this is adorable on her. it obviously would be OTT on a lot of other people, but it suits her perfectly.

  • Shawn EH

Misty Day is gaining acolytes by the week!

  • MilaXX

I’m nt saying this outfit is perfect, but at least she looks like a 17 year old here instead of a 38 year old daytime hooker.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Florence Welch is wishing she had worn this instead of that sheer tissue paper thing.

  • tereliz

LOL, I did the “Stevie!” scrolldown, too! It’s a good look for her.

  • Tracy_Flick

I can’t. It looks like it was ordered from the Victoria’s Secret catalog, in the hiddy clothing and shoes section. Cheap-looking and tacky.

  • fananafanafophalec

This is like some Helena Bonham Carter at the Gran Ol Opry drag right here.

  • marlie

This is not something that I’d ever wear, but it’s pretty cute for a 17-year-old trying to prove that she’s all grown up.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

MUCH better than her red carpet outings, even if it’s not perfect.

  • SewingSiren

Very cute. !00% better than the red carpet dress.

  • More of this, I think she looks delightfully herself.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

    This is pure Coven.

  • “Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night…” Kinda dig it. But the platform boots are too chunky. Stevie wouldn’t approve.

  • nannypoo

She’s a pretty girl. I hope she finds a personal style that doesn’t include this honkytonk vibe that she brings to everything.

  • fashion4ever

Please, no, no no no no no no no no no no no no no noooooooooooooooooo

  • ashtangajunkie

Doesn’t everyone secretly want to be Stevie Nicks?

    • demidaemon

      I know I do somedays.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

OMG- that dress just cries out to be worn on stage while Abigail is doing her best Stevie Nicks. She does look more comfortable here, and yes, dear, follow TLo’s advice and work on choosing a more flattering pair of footwear to wear with this.

  • LaSylphide

Aside from the boots, a much better look for her age: fun and a little goofy.

  • Who doesn’t want to be Stevie Nicks? I want Abigail’s dress and jacket.

  • Nancer

    So much better! Love it.

  • Jacob Bowen

    Those boots are TRAGIC.

  • Joey Melliza

She looks like bette middler’s unpleasant spawn if she had one in Hocus Pocus

  • I love it – she looks cute, fun and real. Just great.

  • I think she’s adorable. Well-deployed boho cutiepie.
