Taylor Swift in Zuhair Murad at the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Posted on November 14, 2013

Oh, BRAVA, sweetie. Attagirl.

Taylor Swift attends the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show held at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City in a Zuhair Murad dress paired with Dolce&Gabbana sandals and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Zuhair Murad Fall 2013 Collection

We’re not going to grant her the much coveted international award, the WERQ, because let’s face it: any chickie in her age and size range could put this dress on and look pretty damn good in it without having to do any work. In fact, that’s what she did here. There’s no real styling mastery on display. It’s just a good dress and a good pair of shoes, deployed at exactly the right venue for them. If that’s not the definition of an “Attagirl,” then we don’t know what is.

But really: it’s nice to see her embrace a colorful, sexy side. It’s still girly, but it’s grownup girly, if that little oxymoron makes any sense.

She looks hot, is what we’re trying to say.

Snaps, Miss Lady. Alllll the snaps.

    • Introspective

definitely looks good here. but that hair still bugs.

      • Sara

She’s in desperate need of a new cut.

      • imspinningaround

She says she wants to get Karlie Kloss’ haircut next. I’ll believe that when I see it.

      • Lily-Rygh

The booms have simply GOT to go!

    • SewingSiren

The beige flowers look like cat heads. Other than that , fine.

      • zenobar

Now I wish they were actually cat heads.

        • kimmeister

Oh, but that would get her squarely back to twee.

          • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

Twee with catz is totally forgivable. (As long as she cuts the bangs off.)

            • kimmeister

Well, she already has a pair of those Charlotte Olympia cat flats. Might as well add to the collection. BTW, have you seen that adorable pic of a cat cuddling with a squirrel? The squirrel comes in through the person’s doggy door to hang out with the cat every day. SQUEE!

            • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

Ok. That IS cute. But I got my babycat, T’Challa, for the express purpose of killing the em’effin’ squirrels that are slowly but surely chewing my house down. She hasn’t killed one yet (that I know of) but she does keep them off the property, for the most part. Although, now that it’s getting colder, she’s not up to the job. They are IN THE ROOF. And scampering about, rolling nuts around, scratching hither and thither, causing us to stab the ceiling with a broomstick at all hours of the day and night. So, I look on the squirrel as the devil’s beast. And wish them all a swift and untimely end.

            • kimmeister

Aw, man! Squirrels are #3 on my list of cutest animals (cats being #1, duh) but maybe that’s because I don’t have any on a rampage around my house.

              Any guesses what #2 is???

            • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

Puppinators? If it was me, it would be a giant panda. (Tied with red panda, cuz DAMN that’s cute.)

            • kimmeister

OMG it’s totally a red panda!!!! Nice work!

            • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

They are supremely, transcendentally cute. My sister lives in Detroit and they have two babies at the zoo there. Lucky lucky!

            • kimmeister

The only time I ever had a chance to see one was a total bust. It was November a few years ago, at the Denver zoo. With great anticipation I zoomed over to the red panda section . . . only to catch a mere glimpse of tail as he scurried into a hole. I waited, and waited, and waited, and the little bugger refused to come on out. *cries*

            • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

The tragedy of zoos. I find that whenever I go, the animals are always sleeping in their beddie-bye holes. Lucky for you, there’s the interwebz, full of pics!

            • SRQkitten

They are basically rats with bushy tails. I got over my thinking of squirrels as cute when I worked in a building where the squirrels outside had NO fear of people and were obnoxious about looking for food handouts.

            • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

True. They might be cute, but they will destroy your home in an instant if it serves them, as hundreds of dollars in failed extermination and a several thousand dollar contractor quote for repairs can attest.

            • demidaemon

I think squirrels are cute as well, but I do know that certain breeds are nasty little bastards, like red squirrels, which are my aunt’s bane.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Yep, Tay Tay is bringing it right to the table, and slapping it down in front of you. Good on ya, Girl.

      • StellaZafella

        Dayumm…there’s four Aces right there!

    • KateMaryC

I’m so over her posing style.

      • Carleenml

fourth photo down/eyes looking right. yeah. stop it.

    • EveEve

Such a nice antedote to all the Miley. Talented, beautiful and tasteful.

      • Vtg Fashion Library

I would give both of my withering ovaries to have looked like her just once in my lifetime. Just ONCE.

    • Heather

Is it bad that I want it to be just an inch longer? Because I feel like, when she sits down, her cooch is going to pop out, and I really don’t want to see Taylor Swift’s cooch.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

And her fringe a 1/4″ shorter.

        • Loola234

I think she needs either the mayonnaise/cling hair treatment thing or even better, a trim

          Shoes are AWESOME!

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Definitely a trim, but her fringe hanging in her eyes like that bugs me more than it probably should.

            • DTLAFamilies

No, it’s a totally rational bug. Get that hair out of your face, young lady!

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Totally rational if you are my mother, but I am not ready to go there just yet!

        • formerlyAnon

Nah, I confess I like her hair. It gives her a hint of Ursula Andress sultriness her features don’t really have if they aren’t framed/partially obscured. I KNOW this is irrational, since Ms. Andress usually showed her entire forehead, but that’s how it strikes me.

      • zenobar

Although to be fair, in this case cooch-popping is somewhat venue-appropriate.

        • Heather

True that. It just scares me that I live in a world where there’s an appropriate place for cooch-popping. Let me go crawl back under my rock…

          • zenobar

            Sigh. I know right?

      • Lanus

I concur. Even if she was coordinated enough to avoid flashing the goods, I assume she didn’t stand for the actual fashion show, which means that she was sitting for a few hours with her Garden of Womanhood right on a folding chair/theater seat. So, yuck.

        • Bridget Smith

She actually performed during it, wearing a whole variety of ridiculous/awesome costumes, so your fears are unfounded!

      • boweryboy

Well, she is known for popping her cooch at any available male entertainer within cooch popping range so maybe it’s deliberate?

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Gorgeous! Love it! Have to give it up to the girl this time.

    • gabbilevy

She looks like Carly Rae Jepsen. Never noticed that before.

    • Laura Renee

Looks better on her than the model! (YIKES, that model.)

      • hyperionic

Jesus that’s gotta be some bad photoshopping. Her legs are stick thin and a mile long.

    • JDreesen

okay, i get it now. i used to wonder why she always had her lips parted in every photo i’d ever seen of her face.

but now i understand (and, god help me, feel like i may even be able to…ugh, relate). it’s because otherwise she looks like she disapproves of something you just said and is judging you for it.

it’s the Jennifer Connelly effect. i’ve had that same issue since the eighth grade.

      • MilaXX

It’s called Resting Bitch Face (RBF) Surprisingly a lot of people have it.

        • JDreesen

ah, yes – i have friends with RBF, bless them. but i believe this to be of a different ilk (or at least a modification) due to the fact that my two front teeth are the envy of bunny rabbits the world over.

if anything, i think mine would be categorized as RSCF (Resting Space Cadet Face?). or something having to do with everyone just assuming i suffer from seasonal allergies and have resorted to open-mouth breathing as a way of life.

          • MilaXX

        • aeb1986

I think the queen of the RBF is January Jones

          • Danielle

            Anna Paquin.

        • Anna Vasquez

Riiight. I, unfortunately, have Nice Lady Face and Resting Bitch Personality. It’s an interesting combo.

          • Little_Olive

            I have the opposite :/

            • Anna Vasquez

That’s cool. I’ll just send all the people who try to talk to me over your way. 😉 “Don’t be fooled by her bitchy expression! She wants to be your friend waaaay more than I do!”

        • kimmeister

Sigh. My mom used to get on my case for looking sullen, when in fact I was not sullen at all. I told her, “this is just what my face looks like when I’m not smiling.”

          • Celandine1

Perfect strangers will tell me to smile. I think “What???” and then sigh.

            • kimmeister

I declare that such strangers are not so perfect after all!

            • fursa_saida

“You look mad.” “I don’t know you, why the fuck do you care?” (I don’t say that. I just think it loudly and say “I’m just fine” and walk away or similar.)

        • Danielle

It’s a condition I apparently suffer from, if my husband is to be believed.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

I do, and I really, really try to be conscious of it so I don’t look mean all the time. It’s really tough to remember to relax your face.

          • formerlyAnon

I have to try to remember to bring up the sides of my mouth from their natural downward frowny position. It’s pretty impossible to do involuntarily.

          • fursa_saida

If I don’t want to have RBF I have to NOT relax my face. I’ve actually developed a subconscious habit of ever-so-slightly smiling and raising my eyebrows so as to look not-unhappy. (Which I wish I could unlearn, because it gives me headaches and also I have no obligation to look happy to strangers.)

            • formerlyAnon

I wish I could train myself to do that. Still trying. Because as I get older it gets worse and I don’t want to be walking around at 60 looking completely unapproachable.

        • formerlyAnon

And it just gets worse and worse. When young, my face at rest just had a hint of sullenness. Now I look like I’m in full out cranky disapproval. Which, about a third of the time I AM, but I work hard to be pleasant and spare people my over-critical ire and it is depressing that even when I’m perfectly content I look like I thoroughly disapprove of you and all your relations two generations back.

    • MilaXX

She could use a bit of leave in for those fried ends, but she looks her age and her outfit doesn’t give me a toothache so “attagirl” look your age.

      • Magatha

I think she should just ditch the extensions. Or put some leave-in and then leave ’em at home till they plump up.

        • kbshee

I do like that her bangs are not a solid mass of hair spray hair though. She looks *almost* tousled.

    • Lolo Andre

      Kristen Stewart werked it better

      • MilaXX

        KStew wore this dress?

      • Trickytrisha

The dress looks fine on Ms Stewart, but the bored/stoned/disdainful look on her face and the I-don’t-care-what-you-think hair make don’t work for me.

        • Rhonda Shore

speaking of Ms. Stewart, the other night i tried to watch that film about Jack Kerouac and the Beats that she was so proud of and let me tell you…what a mess of a movie. I couldn’t get through it, it seriously sucked the big one, as they say…

    • Tatiana Luján

She looks good, but how can people not be wearing tights with their dresses in November in NYC?

    • lehen

      girlfriend needs a haircut.

    • marlie

TayTay looks awesome! Attagirl! The dress is great, and I love – no, covet – the shoes.

I just wish she’d cut 4 inches off of her hair. It hurt when I did it, but honey, it’s for the best.

      • CakesOnAPlane

sidenote: what did “attagirl” evolve from? I just spent too long trying to think of what it’s short for.

        • Linzenberg

If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a slurring together of “That a girl.” The kind that comes with a friendly, approving pat on the shoulder, and the option to bitchily roll one’s eyes behind the “attagirl’s” back while whispering “For ONCE” as seen fit.

    • Constant Reader

She’s on my irrational hate list and even I think she looks great here.

    • Latin Buddy

don’t know guys…this looks like what Kimmie Gibbler would wear to DJ and her junior prom.

      • Angela_the_Librarian

I was liking the dress until this. You’re so right on. She just needs a scrunchie and neon yellow tights to complete the look.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Now, that’s funny. I can totally see it. But I still think Taylor is having a personal best moment.

      • Little_Olive

I think it’s what Kimmie Gibbler would wear any day, with acid wash jeans and giant sneakers.

That said, I like the fact that Tay is not in a dainty white dress for once and she looks good.

    • Magatha

She looks great. But that model: OMG her legs look as long as I am tall, and I’m 5’7″. Those of you who know more about these fashion-y things than I do: is this an actual real human model, un-‘Shopped?

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I don’t know about unshopped, but I do know that bootees with concealed platforms and a very short dress will make your legs look extremely long.

        • rebeemoon

No, no, no, no, no. Those legs were stretched and shopped till they looked like Barbie’s.

      • tallgirl1204

She’s really that tall. all knees and elbows. If you watch her videos where she’s wearing flats, she still towers over her band. She is lucky enough to be model-built, model-pretty, and talented, and I give her all the credit in the world for working so hard to turn her genetic blessings into success.

        • Magatha

Thx. Now I can enjoy her fabulosity without reservation. Because wow.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

          The model or Taylor?

    • Victoria Anzalone

This is one of her best head to toe looks, IMHO.

    • kimmeister

I like what little I can see of her cocktail ring.

    • ashtangajunkie

Personal best, as far as I’m concerned. I spent roughly 30 seconds looking at these photos and don’t have a toothache.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

        Hee! Awesome, and true!

    • Jennifer McGuire

Taylor looks lovely. The model, on the other hand, is terrifyingly thin. WTF is up with the poor woman’s legs?

    • boweryboy

She bugs me to no end. I just want to slap her every time I see a photo of her.

    • valerie747

Love the look. It seems transitional for her. Give the girl time to mature. It takes awhile to really know who you are.

    • sagecreek

Cute dress. I wish she’d do something edgier, or different at all, with her hair, but we can’t have everything.

    • BrooklynBomber

My God, the pins on that model!

    • amber.

      ugh those shoes

    • frannyprof

      Still hate the hair.

    • alyce1213

“Grownup girly” makes perfect sense, and she’s the girl for it at this stage of her life and celebrity. I’d love to see her with Grownup girly hair as well, maybe bangs swept over and several inches shorter. Attagirl!

    • KinoEye

Love the dress — looks like it was made specifically for Tay, for this specific occasion. She looks wonderful. Also — LEGS. Dayum.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Oh, SUPER cute on her! Sophisticated but fun, age appropriate, and she doesn’t look like Holiday Barbie for once!

    • Imasewsure

Love everything about this look even her hair which usually drives me crazy. Head to toe easy sexy and cute

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Hmmm… I’m gonna give this one to Taylor. The dress looks good on KStew, but they gave her weird “Gumby Just Got Out of the Pool” hair.

    • kmk05

She also looks slightly less comfortable than in her usual getups. I’m a fan, but the booms have got to go.

    • Diego!

STUNNING from head to toe! You WERQ & ROCK that dress Miss Tay!

    • lunchcoma

      She’s getting better at this.

      About time.

    • CLoverleaf

Nice dress but the model’s legs scared me.

      • KinoEye

I was just thinking the same thing! I know these ladies are very, very thin, but there’s no way that those legs haven’t been photoshopped to oblivion. Overzealous photo editing, bah.

        • Kelly

I hope it *is* photoshopping. Otherwise, I think we need to call an eating-disorder intervention.

          • SRQkitten

So glad that others noticed that too. Am hoping it is photoshop at its worst because if not, that is truly scary.

      • omg_dora

Having models that are just tall and slim is so old. The trendy look is “alien that survived Auschwitz.”

    • Rhonda Shore

and also, she’s wearing the right color of lipstick…i just don’t like her in red lipstick, this looks so much better!

    • MilaXX

Oh I see. I understand that they are both black floral dresses, but the styles are so vastly different I don’t think they really compare. Taylor is basically wearing a Heidi special (short, tight & shiny), and KStew is wearing and illusion netting midcalf length dress. I like both on each of them, just would never compare them.

    • Laylalola

I couldn’t even tell it was her in the thumbnail, she’s morphed into the West Coast generic blonde.

    • unbornfawn

A step in the grownup direction. I like.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

She does have some beautiful gams and she looks great here – love the face. Also love the pink carpet and the whole backdrop.

    • ThaliaMenninger

She reminds me of Nicole Kidman at that age, and actually, right in the wheelhouse of Tom Cruise’s taste in brides. How long till Beards R Us comes calling?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

        Don’t give him any ideas!

    • formerlyAnon

      She looks awesome.
And, because I’m old, I have to note that I don’t know what sort of underwear she is or is not wearing, and she manages to look hot. It’s not so hard, chickies.

    • Jackie4g

My initial reaction was how much better I like the pink lips than the red she has been favoring. She looks great!

    • Erica_Vuitton

This is pretty much a perfect look (her performance outfit was great too!) Atta girl Tay!!

    • Trickytrisha

Just about flawless. Best she’s looked, in like ever.

    • Lilak

Funny, how it took a Victoria’s Secret event to bring this out in her . . . However it happened: Good. About time.

    • CommentsByKatie

Golden Girls cocktail night! This looks so 80s to me, but in a good way.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I’m not quite up to issuing an attagirl, but even I can see this is a move in the right direction.

    • Joyce VG

At first I was very impressed and then I saw her lipstick color.

    • anotherkate

She looks fantastic! O Genetically Gifted Ones, thank you for occasionally living up to your inherent gifts. Amen.

    • French_Swede

She looks lovely. But the models’ legs! They must be photoshopped to look like that.

    • pop_top

YES SIS. This is a good look for her.

    • guest2visits

Looks fantastic. The dress, the shoes…made for her.

    • Nicole Little

I’m starting to like her… but I’ll never like that much straight, thick hair (says the girl with the center part… sigh)

    • RoseJB

WHAT’S WRONG WITH TWEE?!? I like Taylor in twee. She does it so well. Why does everyone have to be hot?

    • CatherineRhodes

I like the dress styled better with the booties.

    • Zizi_N

Yes. Honey. Yes. I’m living because of this. LIVING!

    • mightbewrong

You know, it’s not really the GIRL that gets to me as much, it’s the fake Pretty Princess exterior she seems to put up. I like her much better just for dropping the act from time to time. It works.

    • rbk

Nice to see her not resort to that red lip she’s overplayed. She actually looks her age here. What a concept.
