Taylor Swift in Jenny Packham at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards

Posted on November 04, 2013

Cute. Even better, cute with a little bit of grownup sophistication.

Taylor Swift attends the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards at Wembley Arena in London in a Jenny Packham emerald green a-line cocktail dress with bronze crystal sunburst beading paired with Christian Louboutin sandals and Neil Lane jewelry.

Fine. You win this round, Taylor Swift. But we’ll be back, claws at the ready. Just you wait.

Truth be told, we’re a little iffy on the shoes, but we dig the gold and green combo for her.

Well, it’s not sickeningly saccharine, so we’ll call that a plus. It’s a little prim for the venue though.

    • Glam Dixie

I really like that dress, really don’t like the shoes and really wish she would brighten her hair color just a bit.

      • Sam Smith

I go back and forth on the hair, I respect the fact that she has generally stuck with her natural hair color and her hair, itself, is beautiful. But sometimes I’m like, meh, kinda mousy.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

That’s a gorgeous dress. Hideous shoes though.

All I hear is the Ronnettes singing, “Ringa-linga-ding-dong-ding!”

    • lunchcoma

I think this is a step in the right direction. It’s pretty and girly enough that it isn’t a huge shift from her current image, while being a little more sleek and adult than her usual choices.

Plus, it’s an actual color! I got so tired of always seeing her in white and beige.

      • lrober03

Yes! Something different than her typical bridal/princess imagery.

    • yuppo

Tay is here to stay!… for now..

    • cakecakecake

      Payless shoes.

      • cakecakecake

I also wish the waist were a little lower

      • alyce1213

They look like crap and they’re Louboutins.
(Christian Siriano does shoes for Payless, so why not Christian Louboutin. lol)

      • cakecakecake

I’m also SO OVER the hair, especially the bangs!

    • Janet B

      Brrrrrrr

      Well done.

    • Trickytrisha

Finally, some movement up the ladder. She’s too flipping tall and lovely to play the ingenue forever. That is a spectacular dress in an understated way, but the shoes nearly ruin the look.

    • frannyprof

Ugh. No. Can’t get past the hair. And when I did, I had to stare at those ugly shoes. No.

      • gabbilevy

Seriously. Her hair has always been her weakest point. And that’s saying something.

    • mmebam

I like the color of the shoes, and that they are a sandal, but I don’t like the style of the shoe.

      • alyce1213

They are very ugly on the foot, unflattering.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Why does she always look like she’s hunching her shoulders against the cold?

      • oklund

It’s November, and she’s wearing a sleeveless knee-length dress and sandals. I’d be hunching so hard my chest would propel into last year.

    • NDC_IPCentral

I have a rather expensive decorative pillow on my living room sofa that has this sort of detail on it – pillow’s deep a deep, winy red, not green, but this embellished fabric says fancy decorative pillow to me.

I do like the color and cut of this dress, a classic princess line bodice with a full-ish skirt, but the shoes are a clunk.

      • ballerinawithagun

I agree, looks like upholstery fabric and trim to me!

    • Latin Buddy

      Nope. Still don’t like her.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      Of course.

    • marlie

She looks really pretty here. The dress is a great color and I like the bronzy-gold accents. But two quibbles (I can’t help it): 1 – the pictures would be so much better if she had better posture, and 2 – as pretty as the dress is, it’s one of the simplest, most basic silhouettes imaginable. The color and beading save it from being a snooze.

    • AndiMarie

Atta girl! Really not loving the shoes, but I’m experiencing serious dress envy.

    • JasmineAM

I hate her, but she does look semi-improved. Hate the hair, however.

    • Imasewsure

I love the dress on her but the shoes do seem a bit sandal-y for November. Also I would love a new hair color for her. This seems a bit too ashy

    • MilaXX

I disagree, this dress is as twee as anything she has worn in the past. i could easily see Kiernan Shirpka wearing it.

      • mjude

i get what you mean about her & twee. i do like the dress. how old is she anyway?

        • MilaXX

I like the dress as well, I just don’t it as being that big of a departure from her usual tweeness. IIRC she’s 24 now. I guess if Michelle Williams can live in twee-ville, Tay can buy the house next door.

          • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

I equate twee with juvenile, for the most part, and that high-ish waist reads little kid to me. So I agree, still lookin’ twee.

            • melisaurus

I was going to say that maybe the waist seems high because she’s 5’11” but then I remembered that she probably has a stylist who makes sure her waists are in the right place.

      • SugarSnap108

I agree. I’m failing to see the ‘grownup sophistication’ in this. The dress is cute, though.

    • kirkyo

Can you feel those embellishments when seated? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • Violentcello

Something about the length is bugging me, but I think it might just be my irrational distaste for her.

    • Agatha Guilluame

      She bores me. I’m bored.

    • Tracy_Flick

I don’t have any problem with her. Having said that, that dress is a Christmas lampshade. My grandma would have loved that fabric for a tree skirt.

If she sends the shoes my way, I’ll forgive her and never mention again that her holiday ensemble is covered with tiny nipple pasties.

      • kimmeister

They look like metal insects to me.

      • E2_Remote

Yeah, I thought Christmas ornament as soon as I saw it too.

    • Jeremiah Capacillo

Has she been taking notes from Kiernan Shipka?

    • ashtangajunkie

It’s fine. I can never tell if I genuinely dislike something she’s wearing or if it’s just her that bugs and I can’t be objective. She looks cute. She always looks “cute.”

    • Lesley

      :::yawn:::

she looks exactly the same every time..same hair, same dress – different color.

    • Rand Ortega

      Great color.

    • MW

Can I just say that IT’S COLD IN ENGLAND RIGHT NOW? Safely weather for boots, not these ridiculous sandals. Also her hair looks like she stole it from that bodyless doll that little girls practice how to do hair and make up on. Nice dress though

    • nannypoo

I see cute but I don’t see grownup or sophisticated. The shoes suck and she needs her bangs trimmed.

      • sagecreek

        Yep. Needs a haircut overall.

    • ceceliadid

      Christmas tree skirt.

      • kimmeister

Definitely looks more like forest green than emerald green.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Yawn. And too damn early for Christmas.

    • Reality TV Casting

love the shoes ESP with this look!

    • quiltrx

That’s a really nice color for her.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

The girlieness of the hair is overpowering the grownup sophistication.

    • siriuslover

I’ve seen lots of dresses with designs like this lately, but they must be standing dresses only. Can you imagine sitting on those little embellishments?

    • formerlyAnon

I like the dress and I like it on her a LOT. If the shoes were fabulous and the breeze weren’t messing with the hair I’d call it borderline WERQ. Not there as is, though.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      She’s stunning.

    • Heather

I don’t know, it looks kinda ‘Kohls Junior Department’ to me. And I hate those shoes.

    • Fannie Wolston

Beautiful! But wish she was more playful, could have embraced the breeze and let the skirt fly free, instead of muttering oh shit under her breath and stiffening up.

    • MannahattaMamma

Really like the dress but my pinky toes are crying out in simpatico pain at her feet..

    • Danielle

Oh, are we done with the red-lipped, preppy Hamptons outfits now?

    • melanie0866

      I love it.

    • AwwwTrouble

I also dig the colors, and think it’s working. But I think you need to coin a new expression: PLPT – poor little pinky toe!

    • kipper

      I think its adorable – AND ( a rare thing ) correct for OCTOBER/NOVEMBER

    • amaranth16

Fantastic color for her, and for the season. Love that blackened emerald.

    • DamH

Love this. Though her bang looks messy but it’s probably the wind, and the shoes’ like a bit hard to wear. Just a lil bit.

    • guest2visits

Beautiful dress…she looks great in it. If-y on the shoes.

    • Danielle West

Sorry, but it’s November in London. You know she’s cold.
