Saoirse Ronan for The New York Times T Style Magazine

Posted on November 05, 2013

Darlings, here’s your Pretty of the Day; Miss Saoirse, giving us the very definition of “fresh-faced.”

Saoirse Ronan covers the latest issue of The New York Times T Style magazine photographed by Paolo Roversi and styled by Jonathan Jaye.

It’s a great look for her and the pictures are gorge, but someone at the NYT needs to lighten up, it seems. It’s a dour pretty, but it’s still pretty.

Tilda Swinton is going to kill her, because she’s the next Supreme.

      • JDreesen

        Kill her? or train her?

because i’d watch a reality competition show on Lifetime about that in a heartbeat…Swinton Supreme: The Next Generation.

        • foodycatAlicia

Is it wrong that I am picturing a kiss where SWINTON downloads all her knowledge to the next generation?

          • JDreesen

            define “wrong”.

          • JDreesen

also, i corrected my original post. thank you for reminding me that all-caps is the standard when referring to The SWINTON!

          • charlotte

You just created the next Bowie video.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m picturing LA SWINTON softly descending from the realms in which she dwells and hovering over this child as she imparts the kiss and her knowledge…

            • melisaurus

Like a dementor in all white.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

A benevolent, but FEARED fashion dementor

        • SugarSnap108

Is it possible to be trained in the Ways of the Swinton?

          • JDreesen

ooooh, check today’s post about the MoMA benefit. i heard that after the event, SWINTON offered exclusive one-on-one tutoring sessions in the back of the museum.

(and “back of the museum” may very well have been code for “inside the hem of her pants” but that’s even more of a rumour than the sessions themselves.)

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

      Those eyes.

      • Nicholas

… have been through Photoshop. :)

        • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

That was a mean, tacky thing to say. Let’s go get drunk together, first round of tequila shots is on me!

        • YoungSally

I think that coat has been too… least a color filter…

        • FeminineLipstique

People love to Photoshop her eyes, I guess. Her eyes are that same blazing blue on the Hanna poster.

        • Tatiana Luján

unnecesarily brought by photoshop, she has beautiful eyes.

          • Nicholas

No one is ever sufficiently beautiful in Hollywood, alas.

    • StellaZafella

‘Young woman’ with one pearl earring.

      • Vtg Fashion Library

That’s where I immediately went with that last shot.

    • Danielle

      Those FRECKLES.

      • RedRaven617

I have freckles, but they never photograph like that. I’m eaten up with jealousy.

    • AllForUSophia

      Gorgeous AND talented!

    • foodycatAlicia

Reinforces that the recent picture with Max Irons was so not this fragile beauty. Stunning girl. (also, note to Gaga – this is how one does pathos, love)

      • futurenicole

Nope, that was definitely her. I feel creepy saying this, but I just compared those pix with other pictures of her — same profile, same eyebrows, same lips, etc. She just looks different out and about with makeup on. Also, apparently they starred together in “The Host,” so it’s not really that weird that they might be hanging out …

    • Noah

I live for that green coat.

      • Sarah

I’d murder for that green coat.

        • terpsichory

I’ll generously leave you to fight over it and make away with the grey slim cut.

        • BKagainwiththesweatpants

One needs a poison ring, deftly dispensing the blood of demons into a glass of the finest sherry, for a coat that beautiful. I am openly drooling at my desk.

          • Sarah

OOh, nice imagery. I was thinking one needed a cigarette holder of some kind, but you’ve gone the extra mile.

      • kimmeister

It looks like artificial turf to me, especially on the model.

    • lunchcoma

Ah, the time of year when we start getting lots of beautiful coat porn.

      • formerlyAnon

      • KateShouldBeWorking

What is the coat-porn equivalent of “I’ll be in my bunk”? Because that’s where I’ll be.

        • twigg

“i’ll be in the closet”? ehh maybe not.

        • lunchcoma

Let’s be snobby: “I’ll be at the ski lodge.”

    • Dagney

      The Cate-Tilda love child.

    • MW

This should come with a warning for coat porn. She looks pretty but I’m too distracted by the coats to look at her properly.

    • lundibleu

She looks fantastic, and a little like a cross of Tilda and Cate with a side order of Audreybot.

    • madscntst

In each of her pictures, I can just imagine her saying in a very soft, somber voice, “My cat just died.” Dour, indeed!

      • imspinningaround

I can hear the voice you’re thinking of. It’s the terrible whispery wide-eyed wonder voice she used all through The Lovely Bones.

    • ajhan

SHE looks gorgeous… but that choker, combined with the overall dourness, reminds me of that ghost story about the girl with the ribbon around her neck. *shudder*

      • Imasewsure

My son made me read him that story 1000 times. :)

    • MaggieMae

      Coat lust!

    • terpsichory

Seems that Camilla Belle has donated her wig to Louis Vuitton models in need.

Saoirse is turning into a stunner. Loved her in Hanna.

      • MilaXX

        Loved that movie.

        • Tatiana Luján

I have not seen it yet, is it scary?

          • MilaXX

Hanna? No It’s an action movie, but it has camp moments in it. Cate Blanchet is hilarious. I guess I’d put it in the same category as The 5th Element.

            • Tatiana Luján

              Oh, great!

    • nannypoo

A pretty girl in need of shampoo.

      • Tatiana Luján

to me, it looks more like pretty girl who just wahed her hair, so it is still wet.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

      She’s Tilda-ing!!!!

    • carolie_king

      LOVE the freckles.

      • FeminineLipstique

Yeah, I’m happy they didn’t take them out with Photoshop.

    • MilaXX

love the cover and I really like that first look the model is wearing. I am coat shopping now and if I had unlimited funds I want that coat and boots.

    • Imasewsure

I’ll take Dour Pretty… and I’ll take it with freckles please. Great photos (even if I am a little bit pensive after looking at them too long)…

    • Ms. Schmidt

Those first two photographs are marvelous. The last one, though, I’m not sure if it’s the angle or the hair or what, but I’m not loving it. I do think, based on the first two pictures, that she is one of those women who has such an arresting face that minimizing her hair – as is done in the first two pictures – is a good move.

      • Sabin

That last one made me think of Eddie Tremayne (is that his name? )

        • Ms. Schmidt

Redmanyne. Now that you mention it, there is a resemblance.

    • SugarSnap108

They let her KEEP HER FRECKLES. She looks like a beautiful, living, breathing human.

    • Trickytrisha

Very fresh, vibrant, and yep…dour. I love the first two pics, but her hair in the last one takes me three days of being in bed with a nasty virus to achieve. What’s with hairstylists these days? Greasy is not good.

    • marlie

She looks really, really beautiful and her eyes are SO expressive. Well done.

    • Andrea Lane

Did anyone watch her new Stephanie Meyer movie? It is the height of stupidity.

I’m stuck on the armless model…..

    • ActuallyAsian

Off-topic: Is it just me or has there been no recaps of the PR All-Stars episodes? Been looking forward to them. Those were always the most interesting feature of this blog…

    • cakecakecake

Now we know where Camilla Belle has been getting those tattered Geisha Wigs!
Everyone: 4th picture from the top

    • Aurumgirl

That green mohair coat. I want it.

      • lobsterlen

Yes! Talk about coat porn … its perfect.

    • Tatiana Luján

The pictures are moving and Ronan looks beautiful. Just wish the New York Times hadn’t photoshoped her eyes’ color, they look a bit plastic.

      • sweetlilvoice

Exactly. Nothing says fresh face like tinted contacts or whatever they did to her.

    • KinoEye

FRECKLES! Love, love, love them. More of this please, magazine editorials.

    • crash1212

That LV coat needs to be in my closet right now.

    • tereliz

I love her, but is it bad that all I’m getting from this editorial is a mean yen for a new coat?

    • Aidan B

Did Camilla Belle get her tacky wig from the Louis Vuitton model?

    • sweetlilvoice

I’m getting a tuberculosis vibe from the photos.

    • Anne

She’s a cheerleader for the University of Dour–as Peggy Olson would put it.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

      Did she have a hickey?

    • Gaby

So much coat porn. I love that first mossy coat.

    • msdamselfly

      Absolutely love the cover!

    • NurseEllen

She’s channeling Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” in that last shot. Haunting.

    • kingderella

    • kalisa

I guess we only get pissed off about being posed in a big coat if she’s a plus-sized girl.

    • Gatto Nero

The NYT was going for that Celtic moodiness, I think.

    • deech_sea

This is four months late, but the photos remind me of a Vermeer. Very, very beautiful
