    • Mrs. Julien

Tim Gunn would be concerned. That is a whole lot of look.

    • RussellH88

      No Alice. Absolutely not.

      • Jessica Freeman

        The real Alice would never.

    • Clueless_Jock

It’s really trashy even for a dress without cleavage.

      • ShiOllie

I don’t know if it’s trashy – it’s like Ms. Frizzle from the Magic Schoolbus tried to be sexy. No thank you, but not quite trashy.

        • Tatiana Luján

Trashy like it belongs in a trash bag or thashy like it looks as if it were made with things collected from the recycle can.

        • zenobar

Internet High-Five for referencing The Frizz.

        • sara crabtree

The Frizz is the absolute best explanation of this. You win.

        • demidaemon

I love this analogy. There neds to be more Magic School Bus references in the world!

    • Jessica Freeman

What in the GD hell is this?

      • Mrs. Julien

A terrifyingly exuberant Frankendress with built in fire? Seriously, the villagers could light their torches on it.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

I really love you a lot for that!

      • Me Again

Peter Pilotto keeps trying to be Mary Katrantzau. Swing and a miss.

        • teensmom99

I totally agree re Pilotto trying but to be contrarian I actually think this one worked. The BKs (and likely the uncles who unleashed this without comment) will disagree with me and it is kind of cray-cray but effective cray cray.

        • conniemd

He tries to be Mary Katrantzau and ends up with clothes that look like Project Runway bottom three. It’s like he doesn’t know where to stop, take out the black netting in the middle, lower the top to waist length and you have an interesting dress.

      • gabbilevy

Somebody misinterpreting the event name as Harpers Bizarre Women of the Year Awards.

    • http://myriameron.blogspot.com/ Heron

      Wut.

    • Jeremiah Capacillo

She looks like one of the mannequins in the It’s A Small World ride.

      • Heather

I was deeply afraid of those as a 4-year-old, and remain so, decades later.

    • anabel22

      Ay dios mio!

This is bad, starting with that hair to those shoes.
Note to Ruth, you aren’t your character from Luther in real life.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Under no circumstances should this woman be in that dress. That thing is Bat Shit Insane. If Pilotto had it in mind to make a dress so nuts that he should be put under observation, he has succeeded admirably.

      • cbt22

Frankly, I feel that way about most of Pilotto’s designs. Maybe it’s all just a cry for help, but stylists keep on taking him seriously. Poor man.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I would have to agree. he is a designer who’s work i very rarely like. It all seems to tricky and over wrought

        • zenobar

It’s like “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, but in reverse.

      • zenobar

Pilotto is a menace to Fashion and must be stopped.

(I kid – he can keep on doing what he loves, I just don’t like looking at it generally. It takes all kinds, right?

But my feelings about Pilotto are summed up in that line from Amadeus: “Too many notes.”)

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

What annoys me most in regards to this mess-o-dress, is that it makes no visual sense whatever. None of the elements relate to each other in a cogent way. Its a bunch of textiles whirled in a cyclone and ejected at a person.

        • filmcricket

Liked for the Amadeus reference – have an internet.

        • ankali

Mary Katranzou, whom I love, pulls off similar stuff, but with segues and polish and playfulness and finesse and joy. Pilotto just seems to be — dismissive of? oblivious to? unaware of? — the very concept of sensibilities. His work is aggressive, but not purposeful.

          • demidaemon

I agree. Not that MK ever misses, but she is much smarter. Most of her misses aren’t inherent in the design; it’s the stylist putting the wrong dress on the wrong person. PP just seems to live in a fashion blender. Rarely, we get a decent smoothie. Most of the time he is making mud pie and pretending it’s chocolate.

    • Tippi123

It would be nicer if it was longer. And it could do without the sheer bits.

      • http://wikeslongtrail.blogspot.com/ latenac

I was actually surprised the dress wasn’t longer as I was scrolling down. I have to admit I admire her chutzpah with this. Not that I think anyone should wear this dress ever but still I have to admire the chutzpah.

        • Tippi123

My thoughts exactly: I also expected it to be longer as I was scrolling down. And she clearly knows what she’s doing. She knows it’s bold bordering on ugly but I think that’s why she loves it.

    • Emily Dagger

I love her so much, and I want her to dress better.

      • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

        I feel the same way.

      • DTLAFamilies

Anyone who can go from Jane Eyre to serial killer and be 100% convincing as both deserves to be hugely famous. But not for dressing as a loon.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Before you leave the studio, turn around and take 3 elements off the design.

My votes for which 3: The organza, the visible boning and the sheer panel at the back.

      • mightbewrong

My vote for what to take off is the dress.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Girl. If you are not bat shit crazy, you should fire your stylist right away. But on the off chance that you are bat shit crazy, well done, you conveyed it perfectly.

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

If her character on Luther is any indication, she’s definitely batshit crazy, which is why I think it works.

    • Meg

      Poor thing.

    • Violentcello

      Oh.

I was intrigued by the top of the dress in the thumbnail, even if her hair is a little wild. And then … that skirt. And the sheer panels. Is that a Florida sunset on her back? And Krakatoa erupting on her chest?

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

        Oh BLESS you for this.

        • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

          Krakatoa ftw!

    • 3boysful

Sorry, but as a child of the 70’s, I will never look at a photo print fabric and not be transported back to arguably one of the worst decades of fashion.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Or a van with a sunset painted on it.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

Yes, this is *totally* a “Side of a Van” dress! The designer must have been listening to “Lyin’ Eyes” by The Eagles on an endless loop when he created this.

          • decormaven

Or “Chevy Van.” “Cause like a picture she was laying there….Moonlight dancing off her hair…”

    • Blair Sylvester

I think the skirt shape is kind of cool but too much pattern and ugly sheer bits . I think you have to choose either a jarring mix of patterns or a difficult shape or it will almost always end up looking like too too much

      • Lizzyisi

You said this better than I was going to say it.

    • mmebam

Crazy dress is crazy, and I love it – just not for her.

    • ballerinawithagun

I loved the thumbnail, but that skirt is horrible and I love me some wild skirts.

    • Tamara Hogan

      Scrolldown fug.

    • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

That hair does not go with that (hiddy) dress. It does not go with anything outside of an evangelical church.

      • MilaXX

        ^^^^THIS^^^^^

    • jw_ny

Love the colors and patterns of the dress…the full skirt and awful sheer panel ruin it tho. Edit, designers, edit!

I’m not digging the big hair and Kool-aid smile either…

    • marlie

Wow. That’s a lot of dress there. I can’t even begin to say what’s wrong with this, so I’ll just go with “everything.”

    • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

She cray, and she dress cray.

    • hughman

if ever a look said “I’M OFF MY MEDS”, this is it.

    • Tatiana Luján

I wanna keep seeing Ruth Wilson everywhere, I want her to become a huge star, but I wish to see her in flattering clothes.

    • ojosazules

The dress without the outrigger skirts would be much better. These are good colors for her and they are seasonal. The waist insert isn’t working.
I like her for trying to wear this.

    • Diego!

I don’t know who she is, but she is selling a crazy/wacko image and I love how her hair is done for this dress. You go girl! Miss Gaga must be some sort of jelaous!

      • DTLAFamilies

She’s a truly wonderful actress and I’d love for her to be better known but not because she dresses like a nutjob.

      • ojosazules

I’m not sure Gaga is what she was going for?

        • Diego!

early days of Gaga seemed pretty much like this outfit.

          • ojosazules

Gaga would probably work this dress- lava lamp heels and big flamingo hair, or something. But I think if you told Ruth that she was making Gaga jealous, she might be less than thrilled.

    • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

Peter Pilotto, crack designer to the stars. Wacky and cray-cray.

    • bertkeeter

      One comment…BURN THAT DRESS!

    • Nancer

Scroll down fug… the hair was wild enough, but then that DRESS! Oh my.

    • Kelly

Talk about Frankendresses. The only thing this one lacks is a neckbolt.

    • boweryboy

      NO! No. oh. hell. no.

    • appliquer

I don’t know who she is – but I love everything about this look!

    • BayTampaBay

This woman is only 31 years old. Her hairstyle paired with this dress makes her look 50.

I like the dress but GTINYD!

      • tereliz

        31, you say? 8-|

erm… I was just going to say this fifty year old woman has some nice gams…

    • NYCGlamourpuss

“Okay, majorettes! This year’s homecoming theme is the upcoming ‘Hunger Games’ movie, ‘Catching Fire’. Your parents WILL have to purchase the new costumes, but you *can* wear last year’s boots.”

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

        We have a winner.

    • Kent Roby

That is a neverending story of a dress. I bet it plays music when she spins around.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I have never met a Peter Pilotto design that I liked.

    • MilaXX

That’s a very daring & difficult dress to wear. I don’t completely hate it on her. Again, details. She needs a sleeker hair do. This one is mimicking the shape of the dress and it looks costume-y. The open toe shoe is also wrong for it, either a simple pump or a strap-y sandal like the model is wearing.

    • MoHub

Peter Pilotto has a lot to answer for.

    • sagecreek

I need to read more carefully…my first thought was, “My God, what has Rita Wilson done to her face?”

      • NYCGlamourpuss

Haaah! I did the same thing! I was like, “Wait, that’s totally not her…”

    • SEPA_Q

      Now THAT’S a “rib cage”!

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Anybody else wanting to slick that crazy hair back into a tight chignon? It would combat the cray of the dress.

    • YoungSally

      She’s channeling crazy-eyed Stockard Channing.

    • filmcricket

Scroll-down “Whoa!” In the thumbnail I was like “Oooh, I like the top!” and then: wowzers.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

This dress could be so striking as a gown. But this is not working

    • ewes_urn_aim

Even Shannel (RPDR) would think this is too much.

    • Rand Ortega

Ugh. When did schizophrenic apron become a look?

      • NDC_IPCentral

        Schiz-y was my exclamation, too.

    • mhlmh

I have crazy-love for her, so I think she looks crazy-beautiful.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

leftover from the project runway designs inpired by insects challenge. too bad, i usually like peter pilotto, but this is making me reach for the fly swatter.

    • Nicole Walraven

scrolling down to the skirt made my eyes pop out of my head. i can deal with the dress, its got an asteroids crashing into the sun thing going on that i kind of like. but the shoes aren’t really working, and the puffy hair takes it straight to crazy town. smooth out the hair and…i honestly don’t know what shoes would go with this dress. maybe she should have gone further to the crazy side and showed up barefoot.

    • BrooklynBomber

A dress made for a model and no one else.

    • Qitkat

Ahh, Peter Pilotto, you sassy, crazy designer you. I. Love. This. But even without reading others’ comments, I’ll bet I’m in the minority. BKs do not generally appreciate his quirkiness.

      • Imasewsure

I don’t like it but I think on the right person it would be interesting. I definitely dislike most of his stuff though, that is fur sur

      • demidaemon

I think quirkiness is the wrong world. I think of him more as “throwing everything including the kitchen sink at the dress form to see what sticks” designer.

        • Qitkat

Actually if you are currently following PR All-Stars, it seems that Jeffrey is trying to take that title ;-)

          • demidaemon

I am, and I don’t disagree. However, while PP seems to treat every unique design this way, Jeffrey seems to treat his general output and career this way. Not that I am a big PP supporter, but I think he has a better philosophy than good ol’ Jeffrey.

    • Terri Terri

Scroll-down freak-out!! Like her hair though.
(But she’ll always be Jane Eyre to me…)

    • ItAin’tMe

I love the dress but only on the model because she is a stick.

    • decormaven

It’s Schadenfreude Extravaganza! Har de har har! I’m dying here…

    • Imasewsure

Wow not woman (girl?) enough for that dress… oh yeah and it’s kind of an ugly dress anyway

    • PastryGoddess

      *pulls out the yardstick*

Yeah no, this dress a level 300 class in fashion wearing. Honey you need to pass your pre-requisite courses first before attempting this level of fashion.

    • Slanted & Enchanted

I want to see Zoe Saldana in this dress. She’s been making some more subdued fashion choices later and this reminds me of something she’d wear in her golden age of RC dressing (sometime around Star Trek and Avatar).

    • Trickytrisha

The dress looks like a scene from a science fiction movie. She looks like a character in a 1950’s domestic drama.

    • Dagney

      THAT is Gwen Stefani’s dress.

    • Kate4queen

      Just no

    • Lattis

I loved this woman so much in “Luther” that I’ll forgive her almost anything.

BTW – I liked her hair color in “Luther” better than this lighter color. She looked stunning in that darker, mahogany.

    • deb

I’ve got the Jetsons theme song in my head now… thanks.

    • Inês Martins

      Errr….. No!

    • crash1212

I love this quirky dress and I think she’s rockin’ it for the most part. What it’s doing for her shoulders is to die for. I love the hair and make-up. Not crazy about the shoes – but not sure what I would’ve chosen..maybe not a peep toe?

    • ThesisMonkey

the kittens have been thrown something to shred!

crazy print + crazy shape + crazy hair = no

    • mickiemonkey

      Meet George Jetson’s wife, Jane…

    • loosegoose

I love it. She’s CLEARLY a mixed-media art piece of a volcanic eruption, and if you are going to channel the spirit of a fiery, vengeful lava goddess, should your hair be pulled back and sensible? No. No, it shouldn’t. Should you be standing straight and sassy and grinning like a bossy madwoman? Yes, you damn well should.

But seriously though. The lava, black rock, and smoky sunset mingling pieces? Gorgeous.

    • Lauren Dorsee Dillon

      Jane Jetson vs the Volcano

    • Lori

Weirdly, the thing that’s bugging me the most about the dress is that net crap in the middle. The shoes are also wrong and I don’t like her hair. I’d have been willing to give her the rest of the craziness since it’s clearly on purpose and sort of fun in an oddball Jetsons way, but no.

    • nannypoo

She looks a little deranged but I love it.

    • TaurusKW

The exact words that escaped my mouth upon viewing this: “holy fuck monkeys!!!”

    • Aurumgirl

Every single one of his dresses is an awkward cage.

    • ThaliaMenninger

And I was looking for a Jane Jetson Halloween costume…

    • Magatha

The brilliant comments here make me want to like this dress. It may be a Krazy Krakatoa Van Panel, but y’all have made me laugh.

    • ankali

      DEAR GOD, WOMAN, NO. NO!!!

    • KT

      Hahaha!

    • Jumpingjacks

would’ve been better if her hair wasn’t mimicking the shape of the dress… or someone else was wearing it

    • Michelle Wilson

Love it conceptually. Hate it in practice.

    • Badriya Al-Badi’a

The front of the dress is a little hard to look at, and totally agree that the styling is all wrong, but I quite like the back view of the dress.

    • Heather

On the other hand, her hair and makeup are great!

    • Pterodactyl111

      She looks crazy.
