Pairs Division: Idris Elba and Naomie Harris at the “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” Premiere

Posted on November 13, 2013

And now… pretty people.

As if we’ve been featuring the unattractive up to this point.

Idris Elba and Naomie Harris attend the premiere of “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, California. Idris is wearing a Burberry suit and Naomie is wearing a Vionnet dress paired with a Burberry clutch.

Vionnet Spring 2014 Collection

Let’s score this old-school style.

HE: Brought it. He normally doesn’t look this polished. The suit fits perfectly (although the shirt appears to be a bit tight. We just wish he’d wander away from the slim cut suit with the skinny tie. Sure, it’s a classically British look, but we’d love to see him try a wide-lapeled, broad shouldered Tom Ford suit every once in a while. Also: some color and contrast would be nice. Make the shirt white and the tie a deep red and this would be perfect. Score: 9/10.

SHE: Also brought it, but we’re not sure it entirely suits her. The color’s gorgeous, but there’s at least one too many cutouts going on here. As much as we think there’s too much hip and torso skin showing, we can tell the dress would be boring without that sexiness. It’s the keyhole that needs to go. We’re not in love with the cocker spaniel hair either. It’s looking wiggy. Still, we can’t bitch too much, because the overall effect is that she looks hot and head-turning. Score: 8.25/10.

Combined Score: 8.625/10. Precision scoring, bitches! The mark of a QUALITY fashion web site.

This dress. Really? Pffft. Give me 4 yards of chiffon and I’ll whip that up in a couple of hours.

    • Judy_S

Yes but… finding someone who can wear it and look that good…

  • I love the idea of a floaty Grecian-style gown of that colour on her but I don’t think the reality is that well executed. It’s too naked. He’s just gorgeous.

  • MsKitty

I can’t take my eyes off her sternum. That’s not a good thing.

    • KT

      Totally. Eat a burger, girl.

  • Shannon Beamer

Can you imagine trying to sit in her dress? Not that she has any spare fat, but I’m just cringing thinking about me (or other normal humans) trying to sit in that baby. Muffin top central. Yuck.

  • Lady brought SeXXXy. She did what many of us wish we could do. Namely, stand next to Idis Elba, while wearing nothing but a bed sheet. You rub that fantasy shit in our faces, girl, I got your back.

    • ashtangajunkie

  • MilaXX

I won’t quibble over the scores since the overall combined looks are really good. I just hate how low the cut outs on her dress dip down. Is there some designer conspiracy to have the ladystars all but naked on the RC? Is underwear now going out of style?

    • I know. All these dresses where the lady stars MUST be going commando, because I bet they don’t have built-in trunks.

      • Qitkat

I’ve reluctantly accepted that some dresses can’t use a bra, butt going commando at any time whatsoever will always be EWWWWW to me.

        • Especially in borrowed dresses. They wouldn’t let you return a swimsuit under those circumstances.

          • ChristySchiff

Yikes! I never thought about that. Now I can’t unthink it!

          • Lanus

Yes, and unless “premiere” means something new, she’s going to be SITTING in that thing for a couple of hours whilst commando.

It always amazes me that there hasn’t emerged some gross pervert black market (probably centered in Japan) for these “borrowed and worn by starlet and not washed” frocks.

        • ccinnc

I see what you did there.

      • MilaXX

and plucked/waxed like a 12 year old boy

    • 3boysful

And the thing is, I think it’s much sexier to see a hint, even a broad hint, of what’s under the clothes, so that you have to use your imagination. Some of these are next best thing to naked. And even tho I’m a straight gal, I think straight men would agree. (Those with taste, anyhoo!)

    • Adriana_Paula

I’ve been thinking about it, and my conclusion is that it’s a way to prove you’re not wearing Spanx, that you actually put in the time to have that body. Which is the saddest thing ever, if that’s the first thing you want/need your clothes to do for you. God, Hollywood must be an awful place.

      • MilaXX

But in this age of plastic surgery that doesn’t prove you’ve put in the work. You may have, or you may have a good surgeon.

        • Adriana_Paula

          Oh indeed.

  • YoungSally

Seriously — does one wear stick-on underwear in this situation? If not, I do not want to be the next person who sits in that dress.

    • Qitkat

I don’t want to be the next person who sits in the same chair.

    • kimmeister

The idea of stick-on underwear is terrifying. Even if you had a Brazilian, can you imagine ripping that sucker off after a few hours? *shudders*

    • decormaven

      The horror…..

    • The Counselor

Disqus may have eaten my first-ever comment (now I really feel initiated!)–if so, go to Amazon and look up “Knicker Sticker.”

      • Mismarker

Welcome! As a woman who enjoys being in the know, I took your advice to heart and Googled “Knicker Sticker”. I feel like we are doing something wrong as a society if this is an actual marketable product. See also: pubic hair dye.

        • The Counselor

These are both indicators of a set of priorities I do not share…

          • Mismarker

Yes. That is a very nice way to put it!

      • fursa_saida

Often if you put links in your comments they go to moderation (to avoid spam), so that may be what happened. Just a Disqus tip!

        • The Counselor

That probably is what happened :-/

      • sojourneryouth

I would ask Jesus to explain this, but he is weeping too hard.

        • The Counselor

          Aw, poor bemused Jesus…

  • MoHub

He gets bonus points for wearing socks—again! She is wearing a nightgown.

  • Courtenay P

    dayummm they look hot together.

  • Mismarker

Oh, I’m sorry, Naomie. I didn’t even see you in this photo set.

Idris for the win. Forever and always, amen.

  • NOLA_gal

    That dress is stupid.

  • Is Idris Elba growing a frohawk? Because I’m not sure I’m in favor.

    • alyce1213

      Gosh I hope not.

    • Kimbolina

It’s making his head look weirdly pointy here…

  • mmebam

I’m not sure if I agree with the Tom Ford suggestion. I’m given to understand that the ultra wide lapels give slim guys the illusion of broadness. Idris does not have that problem.

    • fursa_saida

I might like to see him in something broader and more old-timey like, say, what Mads Mikkelsen wears on Hannibal (probably with fewer patterns, though). I think it could be great or disastrous and I kind of want to know which. (Image search “hannibal mads mikkelsen suits” if anybody’s interested enough to want to know what I mean.)

  • Could we just lose the part that shows me her side-pelvis? Ew.

  • sugarkane105

Does he have a funky tooth? Or is that a popcorn kernel?

    • Jaeda Laurez

This is a relevant question. It’s mildly jarring in the midst of all those delightfully white teeth.

      • sugarkane105

I love imagining, given that they are at a movie premiere, Idris Elba sneakily making his way over to the popcorn stand and nomming down a handful of kernels before hitting the carpet. Though we can’t see it, Naomie there has greasy butter marks on the back of her gown.

    • Tatiana Luján

      I have the same doubt.

    • TinaBelchersawkwardmoan

      Thank you, same thought!

  • Nicholas

Can we take a moment to appreciate a fella who actually maintains a beard without the pubescent neck scruff?

  • Mrs. Julien

    That’s quite a dress she’s almost wearing.

  • Clueless_Jock

    Hot couple.

  • ccinnc

She’s wearing a nightgown and looks underdressed next to him.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I don’t like the below-the-waist cutout. I don’t think she has the hips for it, really. But if she kept them, she’d have to dump the keyhole in the middle. Together they all look a bit cheap.

He’s a manly delight. Except for that one tooth thing.

    • sagecreek

I kind of like the tooth thing. It’s the flaw that emphasizes the perfection 🙂

    • Trickytrisha

I did an internet search for Idris Elba and teeth and came up with the most hilarious video of him beatboxing in a wild wig. So fun and absolutely the opposite of his current image.

      • fursa_saida

I only recently found out he’s also a DJ and I may have let out a tiny scream.

  • sagecreek

I really hate that dress. It crosses the tacky line.

  • marlie

I agree with everything TLo said. They both look pretty great, though neither is entirely perfect. Also, his tie is too long. But otherwise, DAYUM they look good together. And that ring on her left hand is AH-MAZING.

  • geans

The amount of sternum on the model = good.
On Naomie = ooh too much.
    It’s a fine line, but it’s a line.

  • marlie

Also, can we talk about what’s going on with the model’s hair and makeup in the runway version?

    • kimmeister

The eye makeup is particularly off-putting.

    • Trickytrisha

      So bizarre. She looks deformed.

  • giddypony

That dress makes me think (or hope) she has a towel in her handbag to sit down on…

  • ChristySchiff

That is a gorgeous dress, but I think this might be the only dress where it would look much better on a fleshier gal. That last picture just reveals how tiny she is and I think what this dress calls for is hips.

  • Laura F.

That dress is attention-seeking to the point of tacky. We’re in Gabrielle Union territory, here, and the hair contributes to the effect. I shouldn’t think of a C lister when I see you, Naomie.

  • Kathy

“Precision scoring, bitches! The mark of a QUALITY fashion web site.”

You Uncles make me so happy. 🙂

  • Monabel

    She has a pretty nightie.

  • kimmeister

I have nothing to add to the comments about the dress, so I’ll comment on her ring and bag. The ring is pretty awesome. The bag, however, is a big nothing. Looks like a makeup bag. Definitely should have gone with silver or something with some shine to it.

  • CatherineRhodes

I hate those “look I’m not wearing underwear” dresses. They always look trashy to me. And I fear for a wardrobe malfunction when she sits down.

  • ballerinawithagun

Madame Vionnet is rolling over in her grave right now! Held together with strings??? I know it probably rat tail but I’ve never used it for that purpose before.

  • jjjoy

    they’re so pretty.

  • crash1212

He is a 10. She is a nightmare and needs to go home and try again – the only thing going for that dress is the color.

  • formerlyAnon

That dress is a bit too bare for me to like it, if it came up higher on the hips I’d love them both.
But then, she isn’t dressing for me, is she?

  • Maggie Smith

    Daenerys, you forgot your belt!

But seriously though. I think she looks Amazing!

Idris is a Beautiful man. Full Stop.

  • pookiesmom

  • Bonus point for Idis if he’s wearing socks!

  • Dan_In_NYC

I’m riding alone with those not on the Idris love train, I guess. That said, the suit looks great, as does Naomie.

  • lillyvonschtupp

Idris: Hot Sex on a Platter

  • Shawn EH

Yep, much hotter dress without showing off the sternum, true.

  • It pisses me off that designers put me in the position of telling gorgeous women that covering a bit more would look better.

  • julnyes

Once again, she is much better than this dress.. He is lovely and hopefully wearing socks.

  • nannypoo

She’s lovely but this dress is for a sluttier person. He can wear whatever he wants and I will always give him a 10.

  • fursa_saida

I feel like I want her makeup to be just a tad bit punchier. Just a very little.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Excellent scoring-Mr. Elba is close to perfection, while I agree that the dress doesn’t quite suit this gal.

  • luludexter

I’m just glad he found some socks…

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

He would look fabulous wearing some of the great Brit designer Oswald Boateng’s stuff. He has such a great way with color (colour?)
