Lupita Nyong’o in Lanvin at the 2013 BAFTA LA Britannia Awards

Pretty:

Lupita Nyong’o attends the 2013 BAFTA LA Jaguar Britannia Awards in Beverly Hills, California in Lanvin.

Lanvin Resort 2014 Collection/Model: Julia Nobis

Not perfect, however. The neckline’s just a bit too plunging and we’re not in love with that bow and sash. Still, it’s a gorgeous gown that turns into a really striking one when it’s put on her. She has a way of doing that to clothes. And whoever’s dressing her really understands how to pick out jewelry for her. That bracelet is stunning.

    • MilaXX

      Just gorgeous! Love huh!

    • kmk05

PERFECTION. It’s an interesting enough goddess gown, what with the neckline and the dual tone, but even with the wonky black part draped over her breast she makes it sing. She looks stunning all around.

    • Vtg Fashion Library

I think that bow at my neck would drive me crazy. Pretty dress, but she looks so much better in color, to set off her beautiful skin.

    • PastryGoddess

      Somewhere Julianne Moore is weeping

      • alyce1213

        And Angelina Jolie is seething.

        • PastryGoddess

          because she couldn’t adopt her

          • kmk05

OMG I just spit my tea on my keyboard! Truer words have never been spoken.

          • Kristin McNamara

            HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

          • Deenice

bless you for making me laugh on a Monday…after work no less!

    • Sobaika

      Stunning!

It take a different kind of specimen to work Lanvin.

    • Cousin_Rose

Stunning all around! Well, except maybe for the bow thing but that’s the design that she was given so I’m not counting it against Lovely Lupita.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Needs a bit more boob tape on the right. Aside from that, DIVINE. Is it rude to say someone has a beautiful skull? Because I would shave my head tomorrow if I thought I had that lurking beneath.

      • Deb Oswald

I don’t think that is rude at all. The short short hair is perfect on her- she has a perfectly shaped skull. I would love to draw her portrait!

      • makeityourself

No, not rude. I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it. Saw her movie this weekend. Even amidst the horror of it all, when her character was introduced there was a lengthy profile shot and my thoughts turned to, “my god that woman had a beautiful head.”

    • Deb Oswald

She looks stunning and I have to say her makeup is flawless. SO beautiful!!

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Flawless is the word – eyes, lips, the whole package.

        • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Hair and makeup could not be better — nailed it! But I do not really love the gown. One side looks like it’s falling off, and the other side is the color of old bras.

      • fursa_saida

Her makeup is consistently fantastic–perfect for her but rarely run-of-the-mill.

    • Stella Zawistowski

I wish it were a size smaller. The right side of the dress looks like it’s falling off her, and I don’t think that was the intent.

    • http://www.what-the-frock.com Dana WhatTheFrock

      THAT FACE.

      • anyalama

        I KNOW, RIGHT?

      • Introspective

when she is dressed to kill her face is gorgeous. when you see her face amidst her craft (what she did in 12 Years is so moving as to defy words) it is arresting.

so yeah, she’s on my irrational love list, titscrepancy and pussy bows or not.

    • Lilithcat

I like the bow. It sets this dress off from the usual run-of-the-mill goddess gowns. I do prefer the black belt on the model’s version.

    • Glam Dixie

I’m gonna go stand in the corner, I don’t like this dress at all and I don’t think it does a thing for her.

      • Danielle

I think I’m in your camp. If it had been all cream, I would have been on board.

        • boweryboy

I’m pitching a tent with the rest of y’all.

I agree, all cream would have been a knock out and maybe keep the black bow.

      • Nicholas

It needs some colour or accessorizing to stand out. It’s way too muted as-is.

      • filmcricket

It looks like curtains to me, literally. SHE is stunning, this dress is awful.

      • marlie

I just don’t like the dress, period. The bow thingy is weird, and I don’t think that changing the color would save it.

      • Clueless_Jock

        Yup, not her dress.

        • random_poster

No one’s dress! She deserves better.

      • Darren Nesbitt

I hate the dress and I don’t like the make-up

      • Celandine1

I am with you. SHE is fantastic. The dress is another Lanvin frankendress. Plus the color is drab.

      • ms_kat

I totally agree! Beautiful girl in a bedsheet.

    • boweryboy

Oh no. She’s slipping a bit on the style scale for me. I don’t like it. at. all.

But even with a miss like this, she’s still stunning. I love the fresh face make-up.

    • moppet

I would like it more if the bodice part was hoicked (official term) up a bit more on the black side, so that it matched the cream side more and didn’t seem so droopy. But even with that fix, that bow is making me feel angry inside. So the dress for me is a miss, though Lupita is always a hit. :)

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

The bow needed to be tightened in order to pull the black side closer to the beige. I don’t like the black flap sagging down over the belt either.

    • Winter_White

Haven’t seen her big film yet, but I’m so taken with her each time she’s featured on this site…so I just went and watched an interview. Good God. Adding to the face, the smile, the graceful presence: HER VOICE!

      • PastryGoddess

Just saw the movie yesterday. It’s hard to watch but amazing. She better get a supporting actress nom

        • Winter_White

So…beauty, brains, style AND talent? Even her bio is interesting and impressive!

Can’t wait to watch her star rise.

    • mmebam

Perhaps she needed to go a size down. Still, I like the idea and I think she’s lovely.

    • Kelly

She herself always looks striking, but I’m not loving this dress. That bow sash looks like something stuck on as a last-minute emergency fix when it became clear that the dress was going to keep sliding off her shoulders. If she’d kept the model’s black belt, the sash might have been less problematic: having a black line at both shoulder and waist helps unify the look, so that it seems planned and not, “omg! wardrobe malfunction! Here, let’s use the curtain tie.”

And seriously, there oughta be a law: no bows after age 13!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      That bracelet is gorgeous!
I really don’t care for the dress. It’s looks budget and lacking in style.

      • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

I don’t much care for it either, but she still looks beautiful, which speaks to her incredible powers of WERQ.

      • decormaven

        That bracelet looks vintage. Love!

      • Nazzzy

And for once, I’m iffy about her make-up.

    • willworktomorrow

The background in the fifth photo makes it look like she has a cigarette tucked behind her ear. Which bumps this right up to WERQ for me.

      • Jacqueline Wessel

Yeah, I saw that “cigarette” too.

      • Kristin McNamara

Haha. I was thinking “joint”, having read this post right on the heels of catching up on the Miley news from earlier.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

      Stunning. Stunning. Stunning.

      Stunning.

    • tereliz

I actually love the drama of the plunging neckline. For me it works because it distracts from the fussiness of the bow and sash. And she’s kept her makeup simple but dramatic, too, which is what gives the whole such a glam effect. LUPITA FTW!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I don’t like the dress but I love that bracelet. She continues to be adorable.

    • marlie

I’m not loving this. The dress doesn’t do anything for me, and I’m annoyed by how one side of the front is sagging a little. And she has also fallen in the trap set by stylists of wearing a lip color that is the exact same shade as her face. I don’t like it at all.

    • Jumpingjacks

she’s pretty, but that dress is as dull as dishwater.. someone was very lazy at Lanvin that day

    • vitaminC

Major titscrepancy. Lefty appears to be hovering around her waist.

    • Tanya Wade

This lady or her gays needs to put on a makeup clinic. I have yet to see her get that part wrong. As for the dress, I hate it on the model but strangely love it on her.

    • Imasewsure

She’s beautiful but not beautiful enough to make that dress work.

    • Melanie S.

It’s dramatic and lovely…and yet all I can see is black and white cookie.

      • Stella Zawistowski

        Now I want a cookie.

    • KT

The top half looks sad, and the neutral colors are boring. She is too fabulous for this!

      • Not applicable

i agree- and the dress sliding off her a bit also makes me sad. She is fierce and this is making her just a little undone-

    • Kate4queen

I don’t like the dress. It looks sad and saggy to me.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I think a little more fabric tape and this would reach perfection.

    • Trickytrisha

Not getting good vibes from this one. The sag is too much and the colors do nothing for her.

    • formerlyAnon

She is so gorgeous. But that bow is not right. It grabs all my attention away from the very nice, bordering elegant, top of the dress, and it leaves an impression of sloppiness.

    • ChelseaNH

The strap and bow just make me think “unnecessarily complicated.”

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

that asymmetrical top is just awkward. looks like there was a mishap and the dress was sliding off her so someone just tied it up there with a sash in a random way just to get her through the event without exposing herself. and the black and ivory combo does not match up to her radiant skin tone, she is more flattered by color. i do like that contrast of textures with that snakeskin belt.

    • Anne

I love that she always wears a different shade of lipstick.

    • MoHub

      One false move, and—

    • marishka1

I’m sorry — there’s a dress? I was looking at how stunning/beautiful/gorgeous/pick your adjective she is!

    • Fred Vaughn

      Good black DON’T CRACK!

    • macwell

      Flawless – as usual… :)

    • littlemac8

Her carriage is regal. Love Love Love

    • guest2visits

She’s beautiful but I really wish the dress was one or the other, not liking the sash effect either.

    • bellafigura1

I think the dress is exquisite, and she wears it perfectly. She makes the model’s version look ho-hum.

    • amaranth16

      She can do no wrong.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Not nutty about the bow sash tying the two halves together, but other than that, she looks amazing!

    • newtonGOTbeaned

Not counting the raw material, that lipstick is really the best part of this look.
