Lucy Liu in Monique Lhuillier on Jimmy Fallon

Posted on November 06, 2013

Miss Lucy makes this dress sing:

“The Elementary” star Lucy Liu makes a appearance on the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” show in a Monique Lhuillier dress.

Monique Lhuillier Pre-Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Vasilisa Pavlova

It’s really just an okay dress; borderline generic. And not in the most vibrant of colors. But add some killer stems, a big smile,  glossy black hair, and just the right amount of attitude, and it can’t help but come off looking good. You’d think the print would be a bit too busy for TV, but again, sheer force of personality is keeping the focus exactly where it’s supposed to be. She took a fairly plain frock and turned it into a “All eyes on me, bitches” dress just by putting it on.

She is working the hell out of that.

      • Anne At Large

On anybody else I would complain. But she makes it worth looking at.

    • Adrianna Grężak

I LOVE this dress. Also like that the shoes mirror the lines of the dress

      • willworktomorrow

I noticed the same thing! Fantastic.

The shoes match the emotion of the dress and I totally just wrote “the shoes match the emotion of the dress”. It’s a good day!

    • marlie

LOVE this. Lucy looks gorgeous, as usual. The fact that the dress has a really simple silhouette balances the busyness of the pattern for a TV sit-down. And the shoes are KILLA.

    • Tatiana Luján

The print of the dress is great for a sitting interview. The shoes are hideous.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I like it! It’s cool without trying too hard. And the shoes compliment the lines of the dress, so this is a thumbs up from me!

    • leahpapa

It’s very nice but that black diamond is just inches from looking really unfortunate. What IS IT with designers playing up the crotchal (and near crotchal) region? Am I going to have to start saying, “Hey, buddy, my eyes are up here. No, keep going – up HERE”?

      • Supernumerary

I’d assume that’s in part because Lucy Liu is super short. That black diamond is definitely higher up on the model, and it seems safe to assume that she’s on the taller end of the spectrum, so I’d be surprised if Lucy’s height didn’t come into play here.

        • mmebam

Crotch hole on Lucy. Crotch arrow on the model. I don’t really think either is better.

      • kimmeister

        That bit is especially dangerous on a black-haired person . . .

    • crash1212

Perfect. I love the shoes, too.

    • decormaven

Oooh! I like this look. Very interesting shoes- which brand?

    • hughman

She picked the perfect dress for slumming on Fallon. Not too showy and still pristine.

      • Qitkat

        Slumming? :(

        • hughman

Lol. I’m not a Fallon fan so to me, yes.

          • Qitkat

Clue me in. Who is your favorite late night and why?

            • hughman

Lol. I didn’t think it was you (and I don’t care about down votes). I don’t really watch LN teevee talk shows but if I had to pick 2, they would be Letterman and Ferguson.

            • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Liar. You WEEP after downvotes. They keep you up at night. You cataloug them so that you can analyze what you said that was such an affront to those more sensible than you.

            • hughman

IT’S TRUE! *runs sobbing from room*

            • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

I am inordinately relieved that your answer didn’t include Leno, who to me goes over like the biggest, smelliest fart in church you ever had the misfortune to be adjacent to.

            • hughman

              I’m not an animal.

            • marlie

I can’t stand Letterman, but I adore Ferguson. And I love Fallon, too. Sorry. ;)

    • Qitkat

I love the cool, modern *tie dye not* quality of the print. It is a simple dress design, but the pattern elevates it. She is always fun and so pretty.

    • Danielle

      God, I love her.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Looks like the roof at Paddington station. She is working it, but I don’t love the barren void over her womb.

      • Shawn EH

Well, it’s more like a black arrow pointing to her vejajay, which I think should be taken as a hint!

    • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

This is a look that Afterschool Special was TRYING to make, and failed. HA. You WISH Lucy Liu would consider your designs, girl.

      • Rand Ortega

        That’s cold.
        (True, but cold)

      • Qitkat

        I’ve already forgotten. Which challenge?

        • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

The final collection, with the “eyeball” inspired fabric in a washed-out tie dye effect, coupled with her season-long infatuation with structured cap sleeves.

    • Rand Ortega

      Lucy Liu, bitches. Lucy Liu.

    • quiltrx

Very cool dress, looks great on her!

    • Shawn EH

Late night WERQ! I watched the interview, and she was as effervescent as she looks in every way. Being on a hit show again must be pretty exciting!

      • Qitkat

        + for “effervescent”

    • tereliz

      Liu+Lhuillier=LOVE!!!!

    • oatmealpie

What’s with the black hole over her lady bits? WOMB OF DOOM.

    • tallgirl1204

She is the very epitome of “It looks good because I’m the one wearing it.”

    • E. D.

Looks great, I don’t even mind the shoes.

    • MilaXX

      Yes she did. Love her.

    • cindiaune

      She makes me happy lol

    • ThaliaMenninger

I am just in love with her.

    • kimmeister

She’s had the same hairdo since the 90′s. Don’t get me wrong, she has fantastic hair and it still looks great on her, but still . . .

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      Get it, gurl.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i’ve loved her since ally mcbeal. and i adore the imagery on this dress. halfway between a digital photo print and a tie dye. and i’m always a sucker for that blue black and white combo. would like the hem an inch longer, but that’s just quibbling.

    • Saturnine

Much like Gillian Anderson– a non-ager. There’s something a bit Giger-ish with this dress, but she looks great.

    • filmcricket

I saw a bit of this last night, she looked great. Didn’t notice the hiddy shoes.

    • GTrain

      Totally agree. Love huh.

    • lamh36

I love her shoes. Wish I could see more them

    • ‘Becca’lise Deveaux

She looks like she has the scary angel things from Raiders of the Lost Ark flying out of her crotch-region. Having said that, she looks great.

    • bertkeeter

BEYOND generic! Thousands of dresses at any price, mostly under a hundred bucks out there just like this!

    • unbornfawn

It is great when she is sitting down. When she’s standing up, its pointing right to the good china. Oy vey.

    • Michelle Wilson

Easily one of the most beautiful women in the world.

    • Heather

Can we start a ‘Bitches who Don’t Age’ tag?

    • ashtangajunkie

I’m inclined to like everything she wears, just because she’s Lucy Liu and she makes everything look better.

    • Barb Rayhttp://www.google.com/

Love this. But, I’m a little worried about getting a glimpse of the “good china.”

    • ecallaw1977

It does look beautiful, but it definitely reminds me of the results of a Project Runway HP create-your-own-print challenge.

    • Derek_anny

While the dress is a bit busy, it’s a fairly “regular” kind of busy. It’s enough to get your attention, see it on it’s way to the chair, and then you’re free to focus on her face and what she’s saying once she’s sitting.

    • jspark

I love her legs. Why do they make her dress so dowdy in Elementary? More LLL (Lucy Liu Legs)

    • GillianHolroyd

Nice of her to coordinate her dress with the furniture and drapes.
