Liam Hemsworth in Hugo Boss at the “Hunger Games” Germany Premiere

Posted on November 13, 2013

That is a KILLA suit. Seriously. We’ll take two, Hugo Boss.

Liam Hemsworth attends “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” Germany premiere at Sony Centre in Berlin in a Hugo Boss suit.

But we really hate the choice of shirt and tie. A white shirt would look so much crisper and less sleazy, and the purple tie fights with the blue of the suit. Plus the tie bar’s distracting. All the credit in the world for bringing it, and bringing it with polish, but the details are not adding up.

  • That little navy detail on the lapels is so gorgeous. Proper tailoring makes my heart sing.

    • ballerinawithagun

Stunning! This is what you pay the big money for!

  • Clueless_Jock

I don’t know. He’s too wholesome to carry off this pimp-ish look.

    • MilaXX

That’s the other reason the black shirt doesn’t work. A crisp, white shirt would have kept this in debonair territory.

  • KingCrazy

    Bring him to me.

  • sagecreek

Who wears tie bars anymore? It’s like he raided my dad’s dresser.

    • SusannaGA

Tie bars are back in a big way. My mom compulsively calls out “tie bar!” every time she spots one on TV. Which is starting to drive me nuts. She wants full credit for noting the trend.

      • sagecreek

I feel so out of the loop 🙂

        • SusannaGA

Not to worry. It just means that I watch waaay too much TV with my mom. : )

  • Yadda yadda yadda — which brother is sexier…neck beard…hands in pockets…etc.

So what?! When are we going to discuss the new Tim Gunn show?

    • sfo2kids

      what new tim gunn show???

      • Anya, Nick and Mondo as mentors? One of these is not like the others…

        • Sorry that reply was meant for Gifted Collector. New show on Lifetime, “Under the Gunn” premiering Jan 14

          • sfo2kids

Thanks for the info! Agree with Sarah r.e. mentors. Ugh. Not sure if it’s worth watching if I have to watch Anya “mentor”. Unless she’s gain some serious skills in the last few years. Also, will Tim just host, therefore we’ll see less of him? I’d rather have more Tim!

          • I wonder if T and Lo will recap it. At least the premiere.

          • Given our esteemed hosts’ choice to eschew the recapping of PRAS, I am guessing probably not. But maybe Tim’s powers of Fashion Erudition and All-Around Likeability will sway them in his favor. (hint hint)

          • MilaXX

I hope not, it doesn’t seem worth it.

      • Here’s the story from Variety:

Designers, Tim Gunn has news for you.

The often imitated but never replicated mentor on “Project Runway” has received his own fashion competition titled “Under the Gunn.” Show will air on Lifetime, the same net that boasts “Runway.”

Series will bring “Runway” alums Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos on board as mentors to teams of designers that battle it out in a series of fashion competitions. The panel of critics lining the judges’ table on “Under the Gunn” include designer Rachel Roy, celeb stylist Jen Rade and Marie Claire’s senior fashion editor Zanna Roberts Rassi.

Lifetime will debut the 13-episode first run on Jan. 16.

“Under the Gunn” is produced by The Weinstein Company and Bunim-Murray Prods. Executive producers include Bob and Harvey Weinstein (Co-Chairmen of The Weinstein Company), Meryl Poster and Barbara Schneeweiss of The Weinstein Company, Jonathan Murray, Sara Rea and Teri Weidman of Bunim-Murray Productions and Gunn. Eli Lehrer, Mary Donahue and David Hillman of Lifetime also executive produce.

        Here’s the story from EW:
Tim Gunn will headline a new fashion competition show for Lifetime.

Premiering Jan. 16, Under the Gunn will feature Project Runway alumni Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos, as they mentor 15 new up-and-coming designers. This new crop will be scrutinized by designer Rachel Roy, celebrity stylist Jen Rade and TV fashion correspondent and Marie Claire Senior Fashion Editor Zanna Roberts Rassi in the new unscripted reality show that begins production this month in Los Angeles.

A total of 13 episodes have been ordered.

Lifetime says the first two episode will feature Dunn “presenting a challenge to the fashion hopefuls as Mondo, Anya and Nick measure the skill level of the contestants and duke it out to determine which four designers will land on their teams.” Here’s what else the cable net says: “in the subsequent episodes, Tim will present new challenges that will test the mentors’ ability to bring out the best in their designers as they guide them through the competition. While the designers are whittled down during the season, only the most talented and creative individuals will survive to compete in the finale, where one designer – and one mentor – will be deemed the winners of Under the Gunn.”The show’s already snagged a bevy of sponsors like Lexus, Benefit Cosmetics, and SC Johnson’s Glade. (Because making clothes can be a stinky job?)

        • marlie

So this is the Voice, but for designing?

        • MilaXX

Wtf is Anya gonna mentor? This sounds as awful as Rhianna’s show

        • julnyes

          that sounds awful.

    • not applicable

Total aside, I passed by Tim Gunn on the Acela. Could only smile at him when I wanted to shout: “make it work!!”

      • sagecreek

Cool! I’d want to hug him and put him in my pocket, but a smile is probably the best alternative.

      • L.A. girl here. What’s the Acela?

        • Qitkat

Express train Wash DC to Boston, with various stops along the way.

          • Oh, thanks. I took it many years ago from DC to Williamsburg, VA. Very enjoyable.

          • Qitkat

Love train rides. Several years ago went on an 18 hour ride from Montreal to Halifax in a tiny sleeper with an even tinier bathroom/shower ensemble. Beautiful scenery. Just something different, and nice for those of us given to introspection about traveling by train. Though the food doesn’t match up to the olden days, or the old movies that feature the railroads.

      • JulieTy

He lives in my neighborhood and my husband sees him on the subway quite often on his way to work. 🙂

    • decormaven

Great news on the show, but has anyone discussed that Tim is now “Chief Beauty Advisor” for Walgreens? They also promo him as “stylist to the stars.”

      • Didn’t know about that. It hurts me to believe that our beloved Tim has sold out. At least it wasn’t Walmart.

      • Walgreens is the shiz. They dispense my various little helpers. I am choosing to believe this is a good thing.

  • It IS a nice suit. But I don’t know if he’s mature enough for it. And I agree, for the love of all that is holy in accessoryland, that tie bar must go.

  • not applicable

Daddy sang bass… Momma sang tenor…

    • NYCGlamourpuss

      For real!

  • KinoEye

We can get rid of the offending tie and shirt… and then everything else.

  • Danielle

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be my squishy.

  • DTLAFamilies

He does nothing for me. Like my shirts spontaneously button themselves up to my neck and a lock mysteriously appears on my fly zipper whenever I see his photo. Just nope.

    • fursa_saida

  • marlie

Dunno… I don’t love this on him. I LOVE the suit, but the jacket doesn’t seem to fit correctly. Is it too short in the torso? I hate where the button hits him. He certainly looks good (though he needs to take his hands out of his pockets), but I’m not blown over.

    • AnguaVonUberwald

Yeah, that’s what I think, jacket is too short.

    • kimmeister

For me, the troubling detail is that you can see his shirt and tie peeking out from under the suit button, also reveling the lack of belt. The way the shirt is pooching out is giving the illusion of a low, floppy belly.

  • anotherkate

Also I hate his beard. Stop covering up your cute face, baby Hemsworth!

    • Sally3000

To me it looks a little like George W. Bush morphing into a wolf man.

  • I give up on this entire premiere circuit. Correct me if I am wrong, but this is a HIGHLY anticipated sequel based on a best selling triology. The words “beloved by fans around the world” could easily be used while discussing the books and the movies. And yet, we’re getting half assed styiling, ill fitting dresses, shitty hair, and the best dressed star so far only warrants a “Meh, it’s ok.” WTF?!?!? Where is the brilliance? The dazzle? The star treatment? I’m getting worried that if the studio can’t handle a pole dance, the movie is going to be just as limp.

    • marlie

They’re resting on their laurels. Every kid between the age of 12-18 is going to see the movie (and half of them are going to drag their parents), and I’m sure they don’t give two shits about the premieres.

      • I thought tje Hollywood machine lived to hype up their money spending fans. They know there are as many – if not more – adults, fashion loving adults, who are excited for this. I am violently irritated at their lazy presumptuousness.

        • marlie

You do have a point, since this film does have such a strong fashion-y component. I agree that the styling has been poss-poor so far. It’s lazy/careless/poorly-thought out styling. WHY it’s this way is up for debate. 😉

        • MilaXX

True, hence the Revlon makeup tie in. I haven’t tried any of the products yet, but some look really nice.

        • fursa_saida

I was really disappointed with how the Capitol citizens were styled in the first movie. Way too tame. I’m hoping they will have turned that up a bit, since there are actual scenes in the actual Capitol in this book (parties and whatnot).

      • MilaXX

The fans that line up for hours care.

    • But did you see the pics of the adorable love triangle wrestling adorably? The clothes are lacklustre but they are winning on being appealing.

      • Ugh. I’m a bitch. Don’t get me started on any shots that show how vertically challenged Josh H is. It’s fine for life, but shitty for Peeta and tops my reasons for why I think he is so miscast.

      • julnyes

point me to these pictures, pretty please?

      • MilaXX

        yes, very cute indeed.

    • MilaXX

I swear they did better for the first film. At least Elizabeth & Jennifer did.

    • DTLAFamilies

Truthfully, the whole series is kind of budget. The first movie entertained me but the costumes and special effects were pretty crappy. It’s clear they’re keeping costs down to milk this cash cow for all it’s worth.

      • I agree, but the flaws of the first movie, I chalked up to them not truly knowing what they had on their hands. I want expect better this time around, ignorance is no excuse now.

  • MilaXX

Exactly what was thinking . Nice suit accessorized all wrong. The black shirt is fighting the black satin lapels and the royal blue tie & yet another shade if blue tie pin are fighting the navy colored suit. A nice white shirt and maybe a blue striped tie would be easier on the eyes.

    • fursa_saida

All the different black and various shades of blue and shiny and not-shiny pieces going in so many directions made it hard for me to even focus my eyes on his chest. It was like looking at one of those drawings that’s designed to violate your sense of physics and space.

  • Imasewsure

Great suit but agreed about the details. Not quite working as well as it should with such a gorgeous foundation (suit and the kid himself)

  • Kimbolina

Is the blue on the tie bar a reflection or actually part of it? It looks like it was painted on with nail polish. Suit is gorgeous though.

  • Eric Stott

I I think straight ties with tuxedos are just plain wrong, but most of the young crowd seems locked into the look.

  • He always looks like a bad Jeff Bridges clone to me.

    • Against All Odds Jeff Bridges is one of the hottest things ever on film.

      • Agreed – though I can’t with the actual plot of Against All Odds. I feel more sympathy for James Woods than Rachel Ward.

  • Rhonda Shore

Agree and why is the tie bar placed so high?

    • kimmeister

To make up for the bar being so low in terms of dressing for this pole dance?

    • MilaXX

I’ve noticed all the recent appearances of tie bars have the male celebs wearing them high up. I wonder if that’s a thing now. I’m not against tie bars/pins, but they look odd sitting so high up.

      • Proof these boys don’t know they are for and only think of them as male jewelry. They are the gateway men’s accessory.

  • Sam Smith

Proportions seem off, jacket too short and pants too wide (or could be hands in the pocket issues).

  • crash1212

Not a big fan of this suit. Also not a big fan of the way it fits him. I don’t think what little belly he has should be peaking out from under where it’s buttoned. The whole thing is sloppy to my eye.

    • In_Stitches

The rise on the pants is crazy low, either that or the pants just don’t flit and they’re slipping down a bit. Either way, it’s a mess.

  • Stella Zawistowski

Young man, get your hands out of your pockets!

    (god, I feel old)

  • It’s a beautiful suit, but the shirt and tie ruin it for me. Hate to say it, but I don’t think he can do it justice – JGL or Henry Cavill could really make it sing.

  • MikeW_Vegas

The suit just gets in the way.. Bring me two of Liam.

  • quiltrx

It’s a gorgeous suit–but something’s off with the proportions (of either it or Liam). There’s a lot of distance between the jacket button and the waist of the pants. Either he’s really long-waisted or the pants rise low or are falling off. It looks messy that I can see shirt-belly.

  • Shawn EH

A lighter blue tie bar to pick up his eyes, maybe.

  • Malibufire

    Tie jewelry: never, never, never.

  • WendyD

I stopped scrolling once I got to his eyes, based on the comments, I think I chose… wisely.

  • Noah

Is he not wearing a belt?

  • jspark

HOTcha cha…. or Hutch chuch chuch?

  • cakecakecake

I’ll take two of him, please! Or just one will do.

  • e jerry powell

I think the jacket is a very good fit, but what is wrong with those pants?

  • JulieTy

Hugo Boss? Sorry — I can’t go for that, no can do.
He designed the SS uniforms. Yes, it’s been 75 years, but I’m holding a grudge.

  • kat89

Is it me or is that jacket just a skosh too short? The sleeves are fine, but the jacket length looks a little short – or is that the style now?

  • Demeter

Isn’t there a button missing at the waist? I think the jacket would fit better with the waistline buttoned and the top one unbuttoned.

  • indigospade

    Hemsworth Beards <3

  • MaggieMae

So relieved to read the TLo comment “But we really hate the choice of shirt and tie….”

Thank you. I was worried there a minute.

  • gloriana232

Who wears a tie bar that high? It defeats the purpose.

  • Crystal

  • Diego!

Gorgeous! C´mon Liam! Show your brother how it is done! Be the next DC Comics super hero!

  • Bakerlooline

    He has nice hands.

  • guest2visits

Another handsome Hemsworth with laser blue eyeballs. I don’t see the tie pin with this type of suit at all.
Otherwise….not really a fan of the suit collar, or even the shirt with it. But Liam is doing a pretty good job wearing it.

  • Mary Lauer

Suit is gorgeous. I wish it fit him better. It just looks off somehow.
