Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace in New York City

Posted on November 18, 2013

Call us a couple of stereotypical queens, we don’t care. We’ll own it. We’re shallow and distracted by shiny things.

Lady Gaga is seen stepping out of her apartment building in New York City in an Atelier Versace dress.

HOles Kaleidoscope Glasses

Versace Spring 2014 Pump

But we’ll always love Fashion Bitch Gaga over Barefoot & Weeping in the Streets ARTIST Gaga any day of the week. So we’re a stereotype. Be kind. Darlings, we were born this way.

Still don’t love the “I can’t walk or see where I’m going” undertone to her style, though.

Sorry. You can be as fashion cray and attention whoring as you want…but it takes a special drag diva to know that even buried in feathers and sequins, always wear something that is flattering. She isn’t a model size. Don’t expect her to be but she should know that strip of illusion netting makes her look wide (and I’m sure she is far from it).

      • Paigealicious

Her boobs do not fit in that dress. I like the look though–except for the glasses.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

I think you just defined JLo.

      • rag254

I actually kind of dig the idea of not dressing to flatter our figure always. Pushing boundaries can also mean pushing boundaries on what is beauty (and ‘wide’ seems to be outside our paradigm of beauty).

        • murt

completely agree….. there are restrictions here on criticizing celebrities’ bodies, but I feel like we still do that implicitly by expecting celebrities’ fashion to ‘flatter’ their bodies into a conventionally idealized shape.

      • JDreesen

i disagree on it making her look wide. i think the idea of the dress (i know, i know, but work with me here; i’ve been listening to Isaac Mizrahi all week while catching up on PR:AS) really helps accentuate her figure, and makes her curves look better than usual.

the only part where she lost me is in the accessorizing (mainly that which was employed beneath the dress). and – as someone else points out elsewhere in the comments section – that netting needs to be clear/colourless to get it out of ice skating costume territory.

      • Ann VerWiebe

That dress super makes her look wide – not hippy, broad. It’s that combination of illusion net and jet black.

      • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I like that one picture where she’s got her hip popped out and how it exaggerates her form. Maybe she’s fucking with the very designers who think a size zero is too big. Now that they’re all chasing her, and she goes and dares to look normal — that’s a little subversive.

    • GorgeousThings

I did love her spoof of herself as an old lady on SNL last weekend.

      • stardust462

I’m bummed that clip isn’t available for streaming, I wanted to share it everywhere.

    • Judy_S

      Three Blind Mice.

      • Spreecord

        Crack Mia Farrow.

    • Allie Carter

      Seeing is for lesser beings.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

The netting bunching up around her abdomen is somewhat less than flattering.

    • anabel22

Welp, that’s such an ill fitting dress.
Is Versace playing a joke with this supposed spokeswoman, a la Dior with J Law?

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Those glasses are deeply disturbing to look at, which is I am sure, exactly the reaction she wants; so a point to her, grudgingly.

    • alyce1213

Like come on, dress like a person.

    • KateM

It cracks me up that she is actually wearing nude underwear

      • marlie

        At least she’s wearing underwear.

        • kimmeister

This is definitely the first time I’ve seen anyone in one of these “showing off my lack of underwear” dresses, but with underwear.

    • MoHub

Donatella has lost her frickin’ mind.

      Again.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

That presumes that there was a mind to be lost.

      • BayTampaBay

Letting Gaga wear that dress….Yea, Donatella has lost her frickin’ mind.

Gaga in that dress is doing no favors for Donatella or the Versace brand.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Word-it’s just not working on Gaga.

        • MoHub

Donatella has done no favors for the Versace brand since she took it over.

          • formerlyAnon

            THIS.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Gianni Versace was a tough act to follow. He seemed to be able to walk that very slim line between sexy/sensual and sleeze very well, most of the time.

      • Clueless_Jock

She kind of looks like Donatella.

    • Garcia Loca

Good for her for actually wearing underpants with this dress. But if I were her, I’d wear them in a contrasting color or a bold, funky pattern as a big middle finger to the disturbing commando dress trend.

      • Ginny Ellsworth

Plaid. Big honking buffalo plaid panties!

        • Garcia Loca

I was thinking even more seasonal — full-on holiday print, with reindeer and bows.

          • Ginny Ellsworth

            With blinky lights???!!!

    • Garcia Loca

Ugh, just noticed the dreaded Quadra-boob. Gaga, hun, you can afford to have the dress fitted, right?

    • SewingSiren

A dress like this only works when it is worn in a comic fashion. Such as this. In other words kaleidoscope glasses, beaded turban , and fright wigs are mandatory.

    • Mary Lauer

She is too pale for that particular shade of illusion netting. It just looks dirty against her skin. 8-(

      • Stella Zawistowski

Agree, I read it as “suntan pantyhose.” Not good.

        • decormaven

Totally suntan pantyhose. That ship sailed a long, long, time ago.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

A girl with kaleidoscope eyes. Excellence.

      • TrixieConQueso

Perhaps they are X-Ray Specs too – hence the Knowing Smile.

      • Danielle

She’s slowly morphing into Luna Lovegood, Spectrespecs and all.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

A facebook friend of mine got married over the weekend and I swear she wore the Lovegood’s version of Ravenclaw’s Diadem on her head. Spectrespecs would have improved things immensely.

          • Danielle

No hat with a realistic roaring lion? I has a sad.

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Ear siphons and dangling sparkly dirigible plums.

      • suzq

She needs to be on a train at the station speaking to you rather slowly.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Atelier Versace implies exspensive. That is some cheap ass looking illusion netting. What should seem dramatic and sexy is feeling kind of budget and stripperific. I prefer this to her performance pieces, but this isn’t so much Fashion Bitch as it is Adult Film Awards dress.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I wish the netting were just clear, rather than dyed some so-called “nude” color. The difference between it and her actual skin (see: legs, arms) is making the dress seem less flattering than it could be, I reckon. I do love the shoes!

      • Angela_the_Librarian

Yes, that shade of taupe instantly takes this to figure skater territory. It also looks like it could have been pieced together using L’eggs hosiery (the kind in the egg of course).

    • E2_Remote

I see Diane Keaton colliding with a Kennedy Center Holiday Special. And I hear handbells.

      • bellafigura1

Diane Keaton just had a heart attack being mentioned in the same breath as strapless, illusion netting and Versace.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m rather liking the glasses-they remind me of big honking cubic zirconias that Gaga saw on QVC and just couldn’t stop herself!

    • clatie

      OVER IT.

    • Tatiana Luján

The fit isn’t very flattering, but the look suits her.

    • Jessica Freeman

I’m mostly upset that she’s wearing undewear, and more upset that I just typed that out loud. I mean, if you’re going to wear the damn dress, I think the point is that you’re not supposed to see any undies…

      • MilaXX

At the very least she could have gone with a thong. This just doesn’t read Fashion Gaga. Everything still looks sloppy and low rent.

    • MilaXX

Nope, not after Jaime Alexander showed us her tattoos.

      • Constant Reader

I was thinking the same thing. When you’re the second one to do it and in a less interesting way — FAIL.

    • lunchcoma

She’s wearing shoes and the shoes have heels less than 6 inches in height.

I suppose that’s progress, but I really wish she’d be heard and not seen. This is getting tiresome.

    • twocee

I think this is a FMO dress. However I think this might be first time in the history of all things Gaga that I can say I love her shoes (and would like a pair). Death to the horse-hoof shoes!

    • hughman

They used to sell these X-ray glasses in the back of comic books.

      • decormaven

All the likes to you. You also could send in Bazooka gum wrappers.

    • Kayemwhy yo

Sorry this looks cheap and unflattering to me in a crafty kind of way.

    • BayTampaBay

I think she just looks awful. This is a “For Models Only” dress.

    • Shawn EH

She’s literally providing her own rose colored glasses. She looks like she’s enjoying herself, and Versace will always be her friend. Anyone catch her nightmare of her dark, forgotten future on SNL? That skit was clearly based on so many New Yorkers she knows. I knew it was all going to be okay when she started the show in her Broadway chorine dancing shoes.

    • MichelleRafter

Also, in a too matchy-matchy first, the glasses look exactly like the shoe clips.

    • http://thejoyfulfox.blogspot.com/ Laura

I’ll happily overlook the fit issues because she is FINALLY wearing something other than those ridiculously enormous platforms on her feet.

    • oklund

Remember those times when Atelier Versace wouldn’t make dresses resembling ice-skating princess outfits? Neither do I.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Normal shoes! Hooray! Keep up the no platform trend, Miss Gaga.

    • hmb

No. Just…no. This look on her is not living up to the sum of its parts.

    • Danielle

      She’s nothing if not subtle.

    • Cheryl

I’d rather see the giant triangular head piece. This is unflattering and worse, way too normal.

    • another_laura

I just can’t with the illusion netting. No more, fashion gods, please – I’m begging you, leave it for the ice skaters!

    • rissa42210

More than anything, I am impressed and enthralled that she is not wearing 12″ platforms. Look at that gorgeous pump! (She needs encouragement, guys) And those glasses are f-ing PIMP; I don’t care if she can’t see. The compliments stop with those accessories though – that dress isn’t working. Don’t wear Atelier Versace if it’s not working! The netting is not the right color – bandaid color is never the right color. And it’s not fitting her around the bust. The wig is ratty. I could get into the turban, but I just can’t next to that wig. I will say, the picture of the hip-sway is giving me life.

    • Miss WKS

I can honestly say I am getting tired of her. Her schtick has no meaning any more. It’s just sad. I’d rather she takes what she spends on clothing leaving her apartment, charter a cargo plane and drop supplies off for those ravaged in the Philippines. Yeah, I know. The two aren’t related. But for me it just points out the ridiculously meaningless plays for publicity while others languish.

      Haters need not reply.

    • Zuber

Its a whiff of slight normalcy….I am relieved for once!

    • Ashleigh

No commentary on Beefy Background Bulge??

    • Ashleigh

Wait. She’s wearing panties with this?

    • mmebam

      1. Go up a size. Your boobs are crying freedom.

      2. I hate to say it, but that dress is meant for going commando. If you’re going to go there, go there.

      3. That illusion netting is dreadful.

      4. ^ See also: glasses.

      • Kelly

All of the above, plus #2 times ten.

      • ChristySchiff

“If you’re going to go there, go there.” = New life motto.

    • marlie

Those glasses would give me a migraine after 3 minutes.

I don’t even like the dress that much, but I MUCH prefer Fashion Gaga. And I’m also relieved that a) the sheer part isn’t 100% sheer, and b) it still looks like she’s wearing underwear. So there’s that.

    • Kent Roby

When one wears wacky couture to buy milk and tampons, what on earth is one to wear on the red carpet?

    • crash1212

Do those glasses make you see like a fly does?

    • gksp

Hate the netting ! So tacky!

    • amber.

      at least she’s wearing underwear?

    • tereliz

She had you at the sequined turban, didn’t she? ;)

    • formerlyAnon

I would like this a lot better if the sheer panel matched her skin tone (might not be an issue under artificial light.) Out in daylight it looks exactly like cheap pantyhose to me.

But it’s o.k. and on the “good” end of her current spectrum.

      • BrooklynBomber

It DOES look like panty hose! L’Eggs, to be exact. I couldn’t figure out what was so icky about – but that’s it.

    • The Counselor

      Disapproving Doorman is disapproving.

      • Trickytrisha

Poor guy… his working life must be utter hell, with all the fans and paparazzi hanging around 24/7.

        • The Counselor

Unless he is the curmudgeonly sort who likes to grouse, in which case this job probably provides prime fodder for disapproval ;)

    • BrooklynBomber

Talk about a visible panty line.

      • formerlyAnon

I’m saying that the visible underpants are the most transgressive and interesting statement in any of her last three ensembles. (Not sure I believe that they are a statement, but that’s what I’m saying.)

        • sisterb67

Eh, I can let the the visible underwear go without a second thought, specifically because way too many people are doing the “oh, look at me! I’m so edgy! I’m wearing a naked dress and have on no undergarments!” thing.

I do, however, still find myself wistfully thinking about Hot Ginger Handler.

          • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Hey, yeah, whatever happened to him?

            • formerlyAnon

TLo commented a while back he’d started his own security firm.

          • formerlyAnon

You and me both. I liked the bones in his face. Specifically how the eye sockets flowed into the cheekbones. In an enthusiastic way. (I am nothing if not specific in some of my little “things.”)

And the bigger beefier gentlemen she’s had about her lately aren’t my thing, at all.

    • Jessica O’Connell

Honestly, I’m just impressed that she’s wearing regular human shoes and that she appears to be wearing underwear. I don’t like any of it (except the shoes), but those things amaze me.

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

That dress looks like the fabric version of a mammogram — my girls hurt just looking at it.

    • Daisy Walker

Honey, go up a size. Lurve the shoes.

    • nannypoo

This is not done well enough to be amusing. It doesn’t fit and her underpants are showing.

    • CatherineRhodes

She was terrific on SNL this past Saturday, showing a healthy ability to not take herself too seriously.

    • LeelaST

Watch the video on the h0les website – I think these glasses replace taking drugs! LOL!

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

My breasts just winced in sympathy.

    • Nonmercisansfacon

Can the internet photoshop the strutting Leo Di Caprio photo next to Gaga in the first picture? Because that meme was the first thing that popped into my mind and I couldn’t help laughing after that!

    • bravobravp

Is this Gaga handler new. He catches my eye more than this.

    • boweryboy

The illusion netting is all wrinkly. The dress itself makes her look really, really wide. And I don’t think I’m suppose to see her black panties. Aren’t you suppose go sans undies when you wear something like this?

But at least I’m not feeling an irrational surge of rage towards her appearance, so there’s that.

    • Jumpingjacks

I wonder if people just think of the most inconvenient design possible, make it and just sit and pray that some celebrity will want to wear it… I mean it’s one marketing strategy for sure, but if it’s a solid one

    • MoreShoes

She looks fat in it, and she’s far from that.

    • elzatelzabelz

I like the idea of the dress, just not the execution. It is generally ill fitting and, while I’m glad that she wears undergarments, I do not think the designer intended the illusion to be “hey, see my knickers.”

    • cocohall

I’ll admit she was better than expected on SNL. But check her out on Graham Norton. She gets schooled by June Brown who is approaching 90 and is an authentic eccentric. June advises Gaga not to let anyone “do what they want” with her body and GaGa takes the bait and goes on a prolonged explanation of how the public can have her body but not her heart and mind (GAG). June dismisses her with a very British “You’re a clever girl.” And scene.

    • majorbedhead

I can’t believe I’m the first to say this, but, channeling my inner 8 year old – I see London, I see France….

At least she looks normal. Normal being a relative term when it comes to Gaga.

    • sagecreek

      Not shiny. Boring.

    • Qitkat

It’s trash takeout night in my neighborhood. Comeon over LG.

    • quiltrx

Look! Shoes that can actually be walked in…and they’re cute too!

    • Gatto Nero

The illusion netting on the dress is hideous. And her underwear is showing through it. WTH??

      • ChristySchiff

I didn’t notice this at first. I would have thought Gaga of all people would know when to go commando.

    • save_the_hobbit

Can you actually see through those glasses or does everything just look like an LSD trip?

    • ChristySchiff

I don’t understand how we (as in Celebrities) can’t get better illusion netting in 2013. I can take a dead leaf down to the hardware store and get paint mixed up that exact shade of decay but they can’t just scan your skin tone and get that stuff to match? Let’s get some of our Goodwill Ambassadors on this right away down at the Celebrity UN.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

The look is just ok, but I like that she’s smiling.

    • d4divine

I think three dress looks fine from certain angles, but that hair…well, it is Gaga, she makes it an outfit look odd on purpose. Live her!

    • MannahattaMamma

what does it mean that on her, this whole ensemble looks…normal?

    • luluransom

Who cares if she looks like an eastern European ice skater with all that illusion netting? I’m cheering for the killer shoes. Her usual giant clompy platforms drive me to distraction–so hideously unflattering. They ruin even her interesting outfits for me.

    • kbshee

Why don’t people hold their heads straight any more?

    • HM3

Bad dress. Still, I’m surprised at how “demure” it is for Gaga.

    • guest2visits

A dress that looks pretty bad on everyone I think. But the ‘real’ shoes are so nice to see.
