Kelly Osbourne in Rami Al Ali at the 2013 American Music Awards

Posted on November 26, 2013

Well, she got the dress right at least.

Kelly Osbourne attends the 2013 American Music Awards held at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California in a Rami Al Ali gown paired with Aldo pumps, an Edie Parker clutch, and Erickson Beamon jewelry.

Rami Al Ali Fall 2013 Collection

Edie Parker Fall 2013 Clutch

Maybe that’s not to everyone’s taste, but we think it’s fun and it suits her. An updated Betty Draper. But we’re shocked at what a poor choice she made for the shoes. Those things are awful. And the clutch just disappears. Also, is it us, or is that some jacked-up hair? Obvious hair piece is obvious, and those studded things, while kind of cool, absolutely don’t go with the look. It’s really odd. She’s not normally this … unbalanced. We don’t always think she looks fantastic, but she’s not one to flub it on the detailing like this.

I love the dress. Hate the shoes and Im tired of her Dame Edna hair.

  • Kristina Sadowski

Those shoes are inducing The Rage. How were those even presented as an option?!

    • lunchcoma

The evil reign of nude pumps has gone too far.

      • marlie

Even boring black pumps would have been infinitely better than these.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

I know, I”m so fucking sick to death of them.

  • Pennymac

Love, love, love the dress. I find her face unrecogniable, though. Bad makeup, or something else, I wonder?

  • Chelsea

Ugh, the entire thing is tragic. AND MATCHING.

  • Danielle

Can we go back to blonde again now? Those roots are looking pained.

  • barbarienne

I think the studded things would have worked with the look if they weren’t gold. There’s contrast, and then there’s “We’re not thinking about color at all.”

Same thing happened with the shoes. The style is boring, but the real sin is the material and color. Plain grey would have been too matchy, but it might have skated past.

    • sojourneryouth

I agree that silver spikes would have been better, but that hair (is it French braided? not sure…) is just unflattering, especially with the heavy bangs.

      • barbarienne

I was actually thinking royal blue spikes and shoes. The right pink would be even better except it would clash with the hair, I suspect. That’s the problem with purple hair–another color to work into the calculation.

Agreed on the styling of the hair. I think the spikes are just combs added around the braids, but there’s something kind of banana-clippy about them, the way they’re on both sides of each braid.

    • sojourneryouth

Oh, I see now it is French braided….badly.

  • Richard Banger

The dress looks big on her

    • 3boysful

      It makes her look blocky.

      • lifeisastory

        Agreed. She looks heavier.
And those roots need a touchup, STAT.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

        Very much so.

  • Karen Belgrad

I like the dress, the shoes are tragic, and the hair is clearly an ode to ABC’s Once Upon a Time, right? She’s serving up dragon realness? (said with tongue planted firmly in cheek)

  • WendyD

I want to pull the whole dress up an inch or two. I think her make up is cute.
    DEATH TO THE SHOES.

    • Glam Dixie

You typed the words right out of my fingers.

  • Lurk-a-lot

The dress looks fabulous on the model. That’s all.

  • Justine

Dress is pretty, but too long on Kelly. Everything is not good. Not a fan of this look on her.

  • kbshee

The length of the skirt is more flattering on the model (ok, everything is more flattering on a model). But an inch or two shorter on the skirt would have helped. I kind of love the dress.

  • jilly_d

    Great dress, spectacularly bad accessories.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

I agree. Those hair thingys are making me crazy.

    • littlemac8

Kelly’s electricity went out and she had to accessorize in the dark!!!

  • Tatiana Luján

Beautiful dress, good makeup, terrible styling.

  • Sarah

Those shoes are clearly blackmailing her, and they must have some SERIOUS dirt.

  • MilaXX

I hated the shoes when I saw them on the show and dislike them still. I didn’t mind the clutch or the hair jewelry, but I disliked that the bangs and bun were such obvious weaves. She usually matches her hair pieces much better than this

    • Sarah

I think the hair jewelry is pretty cool, but maybe if it was silver it would be better, if she had to put it with this, which was a questionable choice to begin with.

      • MilaXX

I think she was trying to add some edginess to the look, which is fine, but I agree it would have been better in silver.

      • Jessica Freeman

I like the hair jewelry as well, but its just Too Much for this look.

    • Jackie4g

I think there was some kind of last minute hair disaster and that’s why the various sections of hair stylings and the studded ornament were pulled into play. I think it was a quick fix of some kind, not at all planned.

  • deathandthestrawberry

She really needs to change her hair color. The purple was fun two years ago, but for a supposed fashionista she’s weirdly static in her style choices.

  • Jessica Freeman

That is not her dress…more proof that the current tea length really does not work on the shorter crowd. Its wearing her. No clue why she wore silly putty shoes. I kinda like the hair spikes, but definitely not with this dress. All around a complete miss.

  • paginatrix

How pretty would she look with shining dark brown hair. That’s what I keep thinking.

  • disqus_LQmjCZP25F

Kelly, this was not the dress for you to make an understatement here. You have unusual taste in clothing and I often do not like the esthetic of your fashion choices, but this one is the topper of them all. I just don’t understand why a young woman would choose to look like her grandmother when there are many other options available to her.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

That dress screams for a belt, or maybe she could have went down a size…she’s just swimming in it.

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I’ve been looking at similar hair spikes on Etsy, and this has made me realise what a bad idea they are.

  • flamingoNW

Awful head to toe. Hate the dress, hate the hair, hate the shoes, hate the bag. I’m a hater this morning. Apparently.

  • filmcricket

Hate this whole thing. The dress looks like a basket-weaving accident, and it’s too big on her. The gold in the hair spikes doesn’t work with the silver everywhere else. The shoes are horrid.

    Okay, I like the earrings.

  • AzSportsGirl

Get yourself to a good bra faitting. It will make all the difference in the world.. Voice oice of experience here.

  • Terri Terri

It’s a pretty dress, but I don’t think it really flatters her upper body. It looks like she’s suited up for football up top. Bulky.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

The dress is cute, but she fucked up the length. She favors the Minnie Mouse pump, but the color is completely wrong. Maybe she’s sick of the hair and thinks if she goes out with it looking like shit, E! will let her break that ridiculous contract.

  • anotherkate

Her hair is stupid, but at this point it’s almost not worth mentioning–she seems insistent on having terrible hair. The dress is pretty enough, but she’s too short for it, unfortunately, so it loses its tea-length cuteness. Also, the sleeves are making her arms look big, which I know is not the case. This is just a miss for me.

  • mjude

I like the dress but I think it looks a bit big on her. she looks like her mother in the 1st photo. not a fan of the shoes.

  • therealkuri

I actually love her hair, but it goes with a completely different look from this one. Not thrilled with the dress at all. Maybe I’d like it more if it was tea-length.

  • kimmeister

I love how the textured part of the dress is reading as houndstooth, when it’s not houndstooth at all.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

I want those studded hair things because they remind me of Sailor Chibi Moon. I think they kind of go with the dress when I think of them like that. The bun thing at the back is so terrible that I totally blocked it out the first couple times I scrolled down and had to scroll up and actually look for it. It’s unnecessary and just bad.
    Love the dress though.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

The nude shoes really don’t work with the dress, which I don’t love on her. To me, it looks weighty and joyless on Kelly.

  • teensmom99

Sorry–I find the dress unflattering. That neckline just makes her look thick and her breasts look flattened. And I am confused by her other choices . . . especially, of course, the shoes.

  • conniemd

Whoopee! Another dress that uses sheer properly by lining the whole damn dress instead of leaving exposed legs, belly or boobs.

  • SewingSiren

Everything is working for me, except the shoes (which are a colossal fail). My favorite is the hair . Spikes, braids and switches all cute as hell.

  • nannypoo

I cannot stand her stupid hair, and this dress makes her look 20 pounds heavier. And the shoes – it looks like she forgot her shoes and someone gave her these right quick so she could get her picture taken.

  • Snailstsichr

    Blergh to the shoes!
I like this dress, but I think she needed a big updo to balance the fullness of the dress. Far be it from me to advocate Big Ole Texas hair – but she needed something with more volume than those spikes. The spikes are interesting, but not with this dress (I’m not really sure what they go with, but I’d like some for Halloween.)

    • formerlyAnon

I’ve been waiting for a couple of years now for really big ol’ hair to make a come back – real closer-to-God hair, not the tame bumpit-at-the-crown stuff we’ve been seeing. It’s been a long time, and it’s ripe for semi-ironic rediscovery.

  • ashtangajunkie

Nothing goes, and those shoes are like fashion Dementors.

    • ChristySchiff

      Hee hee!

  • amanda lynn

Shoes are awful. Clutch I don’t mind. I want to get married in that dress. And I also wish that I could rock the purple hair like she does.

  • tereliz

Ew, the gold hair spikes paired with the silver dress and clutch just looks cheap. Why, Kelly? I agree this is a strange sort of sartorial misstep for her. She usually gets things more right than this. Was she not originally going to wear the hair spikes? Or the dress? I’m not even going to mention the shoes.

Eyebrows to ankles, though, I love.

  • Kent Roby

I totally agree; the dress is perfect for her, but the shoes, clutch, and hair are a big disappointment.

  • boweryboy

I don’t think this is her dress at all. I would like the dress if it didn’t have the sleeves. They’re too heavy looking and in turn make her look heavy as well.

  • Belvane

I literally gasped when I scrolled down to the shoes. This is not the kind of mistake Kelly makes. I’m going to assume she stepped in something nasty just as she got out of the car and someone frantically gave her their shoes. That face clearly says, “I’m going to read awful online critique of my shoes tomorrow, damn it.”

  • KinoEye

She looks like she’s sprouting horns, and will soon turn into some kind of dinosaur. Four-year-old me desperately wanted to be a paleontologist, and I still remember their names — perhaps a styracosaurus?

  • Carina

    IMO this is a GTNYT

  • lobsterlen

I feel like a broken record but the silver lavender hair is too much with the silver dress. When is she going to grow out of that hair. Hate the gold spike hair thing. THE SHOES YIKES!

  • Jacqueline Wessel

She doesn’t look happy enough for this to be her dress. She looks like she could be one of Cinderella’s mean stepsisters and she’s pissed because the prince won’t dance with her.

This week’s Project Runway challenge — make a dress and accessories with nothing but this week’s sponsors – Reynold’s Wrap and Discarded Mosquito Nets R Us.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I don’t mind the clutch but the shoes and the hair are really bad. She looks so much better with her hair down and a little pouffed-up. Also, I think this is another example of how matching one’s clothing to one’s hair color is generally not a good tactic, whether you’re blonde, a redhead, or a lilac-head.

  • MannahattaMamma

She looks like she’s playing dinosaur with that hair: LOOKAME IMMA STEGOSAURUS (or some kind of saurus, anyway). Silly.

    • KinoEye

Hahaha, we’re on the same page! Serving styracosaurus realness (I loved dinos as a kid, and I’m amazed I still remember all their names).

  • ana170

I was about to complain about her hair STILL being lavender. I did a quick Google search to try to find out what her natural color was (It’s probably the same as her siblings but I wasn’t thinking.), and discovered she’s contractually required by E! to keep her hair this color for a few more years. Oy!

Anyway the dress is great although it seems an odd choice for the AMA’s. The shoes are awful. (I don’t understand why every celebrity seems to have a pair of those. They look good on no one.) The hairstyle isn’t much better.

    • ChristySchiff

Contractually obligated by E! ? That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard!

      • ana170

Apparently they think it’s why she’s popular. They told her she’s off the show if she changes it.

        • ChristySchiff

Thanks for the info – So bizarre. I’d love to know who’s job it was to draft the report to the board on that one.

        • marlie

It just sucks that she’s stuck with that hair for so long. I can understand being required to keep it for a season, but for YEARS? That stinks.

          • NYCGlamourpuss

I love the hair, it’s fun and it suits her, and she makes it work. But I agree that it sucks that she has no other options because she’s under contract!

  • crash1212

I like the dress and think the hair is fine…but are those point hair things gold? They read gold in my screen, in which case…WTF? In a sea of silver, you choose gold pointy hair things? Also, the shoes…not with this dress, not with any dress. But the overarching part of her that bugs is the permanent bitch-face. I am not a fan.

  • alyce1213

I can’t see anything about this dress that works for her — the top makes her bulky, the skirt length makes her stumpy, the color is dull with her complexion and hair. GTNYD. And then, the shoes. Utter fail.

  • ChristySchiff

All I see are studded banana clips. (Also, I can’t stop saying “Studded Banana Clips – 80s FTW!”)

  • dalgirl

    Valentino Rockstud hair jewelry!

  • Kara Keenan

I think the dress is just a little too long, but I love the color and sparkle on her.

  • Kathy

    That dress swallowed her.

    • Fordzo

It’s adding about 15lbs to her figure.

  • Laylalola

Oh good God, this to me looks both matronly and frumpy. Isn’t she in her 20s, tops?

  • decormaven

Tea length not her friend; those shoes- nobody’s friend.

  • Jana33

Those shoes ?!? The dress is cute but she’s too short for the neckline and the length of the skirt to work. The color of the hair has been discussed ad nauseum; I didn’t think it could look worse but now she’s gone and added gold-tone spikes to the mix. Head-shakingly bad.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Those shoes are threatening the end to our ladymance.

  • GoAwayKardash

She is darling and usually looks wonderful but…*sigh*…the shoes are, in fact, very very bad.

  • Nika E

this dress looks like it weighs so much it just looks like it’s weighing her down. I don’t like anything about this look I do like the hair accessories but not with this look

  • Alexis Boucher

Was ready to fall in love with the hair pieces if they were just small hair combs. Too much at that size…

  • marlie

I love this dress on her, but the shoes should be burned. BURNED. I don’t mind the disappearing clutch, and I rather like the studded pieces in her hair, but I just noticed the glued-in bangs, and now I can’t un-see it.

    • Kayemwhy yo

      What you said.

  • Fordzo

The only thing that explains this look is that she arrived at her hotel mere moments before she had to leave again for the awards and realized that half her luggage had been lost in transport. All she had in her carry on were these shoes, the dress and a pair of purple bangs.

  • KT

I like the dress but I don’t think it’s very flattering on her — too long, too voluminous, too much.

That hair is hilarious though — it’s reminding me of some breed of dinosaur that I can’t put my finger on… punk meets prehistoric.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I can’t imagine how tired she must be of the (hopefully) contractually obligated hair.

  • formerlyAnon

I like the clutch, I like the hair but don’t think this was the ensemble with which to deploy it. SHOES ARE AWFUL.

I only like the dress in theory. In practice I think the top looks way too heavy, as if it were woven from miniature highway guardrails. (yes, this is how my mind works.)

  • Synnamin

I LOVE her hair and I love the dress. the poor shoes, though

    • Lilak

Besides nude shoes being a poor choice for the dress: I always think “Courtney Stodden” when I see that shiny platform version … (clutching my stomach).

      • quiltrx

My sympathies. I do my best to never, ever think of Courtney Stodden, or any of her 3 or 4 faces.

  • Trickytrisha

My respect for her just went down about 60%. Adore the dress… but the proportions don’t work so well on her. The hairstylist must have ingested an interesting substance to dream up something that whackadoodle. And FFS, those godawful clodhopper shoes, which stand out like a pig in a flock of chickens… oh hell, I have nothing strong enough to heap on that choice. Respect just went down to like 5%.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

The dress is too long on her – she’s a curvy short girl like me, and we cannot do full or tea length, let alone both. And the boring putty colored pumps don’t even REMOTELY work for this! She can do so much better, and I expect that from her.

    • BrooklynBomber

Exactly my thought–too long on her. She ends up looking like Tinkerbell. And those shoes are astonishing.

  • Sabin

I love that dress…on the model. She looks insanely dumpy in it. And she doesn’t usually look stumpified.

  • spooki

Hair and makeup are fab and she looks good in silver. Shame the shape of the dress does nothing for her.

  • allcapsERINN

Why why whyyyyyyyyyy would you screw up a fab dress like that with THOSE SHOES???

  • Judy_J

Do you think she’ll ever give up the My Little Pony hair?

  • VicksieDo

She looks awful, head to toe. She’s not tall enough for that dress, the hair is CRAY and the shoes are bad. And yet she judges others on fashion every week? Please!

  • crystal76

The dress makes her look wider.

  • Milos Mom

Agreed that the shoes and the gold spikes int he hair throw it off. Wish she had gone all silver.

  • PeaceBang

She looks itchy and peeved, as though the Mayor of Munchkinland stood her up for a dinner date.

  • Tracy_Flick

I love the dress, but the length is so stumpifying. The clutch is pointless, the shoes are ugly, and the hairpieces are a bridge too far.

    • martha

Agree with you on all but the clutch, I really like it.

      • Tracy_Flick

I actually do like the clutch on it’s own, but it’s just totally fading into the dress.

  • SouthernGirlRena

I like the dress but I don’t think it the best choice for her. It really isn’t doing her any favors. I actually liked her hair until she turned sideways and I saw the washed out roots. I really like her in darker purple hair rather than lavender. The shoes should be burned in a very hot bonfire.

  • CeeRich

Beige shoes with a silver dress? There is absolutely no excuse. As for the Iron Milk Maiden Hair…NO.

  • quiltrx

I love the dress! Those shoes are a nightmare…I have no idea what she was thinking. And the hair was really working against her here. The style is awful, and the lavender somehow has the “old lady hair rinse” look when paired with silver.
I like the earrings…and she should definitely keep that clutch to go with something else, because it’s KILLER. It just vanishes with this particular dress.

  • jonnyf8

She looks about 1,000 years old

  • guest2visits

The dress is great, but the earrings take the fun out of it as well as the shoes.
The spikey hair accessories are cool but too bad they aren’t purple or at least silver too.

  • hmb

Ok, I really dislike the dress. That it was paneled out on the sides for fit, that it doesn’t flatter her bustline, that the shoes…jesus the shoes. That none of it looks right on her.

  • Rhonda Shore

The shoes and barrettes (to a lesser degree) clash with this dress.

  • save_the_hobbit

Hate all of it….except for the awesome spiked hair pieces. Those are pretty cool…

  • amaranth16

Not the hoof shoes! Anything but that!!!

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I am a sad gay because that dress is the prettiest dress she’s ever worn.

  • Ashleigh

  • Knightley

I’m just so tired of the Mrs. Slocum hair. Dress is super cute, and she is really adorable. Just need to tweak a few things…

  • TinaBelchersawkwardmoan

The dress is fantastic, though it should be shorter. Not sure what’s going on in the hairdo department. Don’t care, I just want the dress.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Madame Morrible is not amused.

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

The hair pieces are COOL, but wrong for the look. It is weird that she flubbed the details–are you feeling well, K-Oz?

  • Mona_Visa

Looking at the shoes and the hair, I have to guess that this dress was a last-minute choice. The “real” dress got torn or didn’t fit or something.

  • Judih1

Isn’t her 15 minutes of fame up yet? SHe is on my irrational hate list. Liked her on Dancing with the Stars, but she acts like she is a STAR, which she is not

  • ShaoLinKitten

The silver shoe would have been such an obvious and easy choice. Why she would choose silly putty shoes is a mystery.

  • Gatto Nero

    Famous For No Reason.
Someone please make her disappear from the media.

  • kerryev

That hair is for another dress. Why not just for it and wear purple shoes?

  • valerie747

T&L got this one 100% correct.
