Jessica Pare in Erdem in West Hollywood

Posted on November 18, 2013

Dreads seems a little dubious on the charms of this dress, but we think it’s the best thing we’ve seen her wear in a while.

“Mad Men” star Jessica Pare seen leaving the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood in an Erdem dress.

Erdem Resort 2014 Collection

She’s been dabbling in this really severe look for a while now; a look that, on the one hand, gave her the air of a Serious Fashion Bitch but on the other hand, didn’t suit her features and tended to age her up a little. This dress is pretty but still manages to have that sense of sophistication to it that she seems to want in her style.

We also think she should probably always have bangs because her face practically screams for them. Basically, this is the cutest – and youngest – she’s looked in front of the cameras in a good while.

Don’t be mean to Dreads, guys.

She looks nice, young, and fresh.

      Oh, Dreads…

    • ♕ Natalie ♕

      this is absolutely adorable

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Her eye makeup is a little bit scary.

    • annabelle archer

Huh. Bangs really changes up her face, don’t they? Great dress.

    • nannypoo

She has crazy eyes and saggy boobs, otherwise she’s looking good.

      • Sobaika

Dreads would like a word in private.

      • amanda lynn

that’s what it is. the crazy eyes. something wasn’t sitting right with everything above the neck, and there it is.

    • hillmad

I thought it was a sophisticated Katy Perry at first! She does look great!

      • Imasewsure

That dress would look fantastic on Ms Katy as well… definitely couldn’t figure out who it was in the thumbnail either

      • Meg0GayGuys6

I thought it was Aubrey Plaza. I was shocked she was so smiley! Alas…

      • Jacob Bowen

That’s TOTALLY what I thought too, cause Katy has worn a dress in the EXACT same minty green color recently!

    • sagecreek

This suits her coloring very well…and she looks happy!

    • roverrun

I won’t be mean to Dreads, but I do really now want a scene in Mad Men where Megan introduces him to Don.

      • decormaven

Probably too fast forward for the episode, but “Pass the Dutchie” should be playing in the background.

      • Scimommy

I’m having flashbacks to Liz Lemon introducing Criss Chros to Jack. Well, maybe “introducing” is a strong word…

    • Fordzo

Those bangs look like she cut them herself.

      • mshesterp

Yes, and with a pair of safety scissors. I think the bangs are awful–not a fan at all.

But the dress is quite fun.

      • LaVonne Ellis

I love the bangs! But then, it’s the exact same haircut I had in 1965. #fondmemories

    • marlie

I love this dress on her! And the bangs look really good on her face. My only quibble is that I wish she had more color on her lips, BUT I think she looks SO much better when she really smiles, rather than when she tries to go for the “sultry” or “bitchy” face.

      ETA: Also, great shoes!

    • valerie747

Whenever I want to look pretty, I make arrangements to have a dreads be my escort.

    • Fordzo

I *think* there is a missing medallion right where her left nipple would be. It is just me? I think there should be a little red doohicky there.

      • NurseEllen

I noticed that too. Also, this reads very “so what” to me. Not a fan of the dress or the look. The bangs, however, get two thumbs up!

      • JDreesen

holy crap. you’re right. and now i am looking all over the photos for something sparkly on the ground like a detoxing magpie.

maybe that’s why the crazy eyes (“please don’t let them notice, please don’t let them notice…”).

        • Fordzo

Maybe the ornaments are really candy – like the strips of candy pills – and Dreads just had to taste one. (I think they’re called something else now. God forbid we lead children to believe that pills are candy. But when I was a kid, we’d pretend to be the women on my mom’s soap operas and throw a handful of candy pills in our mouths and then wash them down with ice tea from an on-the-rocks glass.)

          • Adriana_Paula

            • Fordzo

We made a lot of life choices based on What Would Vickie Buchanan Do?

      • nannypoo

You’re right. I think it got sewn into the dart. Thanks a lot, now I can’t unsee it.

        • Fordzo

I don’t think it got sewn in a dart, because there appears to be one over the right nipple. On my screen, the dress looks a little scuffed up where the missing ornament is, too. I think she got her boob caught in a elevator door.

      • JDreesen

i couldn’t get another angle of that dress from the collection/designer pages, but did find another instance of what appears to be the same outing, and no embellishment in that one spot is to be seen on this dress.

so i haz a confused now. where, oh where, can that embellishment be? (yeah, i’m switching songs on you.)

        • Fordzo

Remember the time Shirley ripped the “L” off Laverne’s chest? I like to imagine that Erdem saw her in the dress and was so pissed off by her new bangs and crazy eyes (not to mention the homeless man she brought as arm “candy”) that he flew into a fit of rage and ripped the medallion off her boob as if to say, “You don’t deserve pretty things!!!”

          • JDreesen

change “things” to “nipples” and we have ourselves an official fan-fic!

            • Fordzo

              As you wish.

            • TrixieConQueso

This is my favorite thread so far – Love the obsession over a missing detail, and trying to figure out how she lost an embellishment, then that spins off into an excellent Laverne and Shirley memory. I love you guys.

            • Fordzo

On third thought, I think “you don’t deserve pretty titties!” even better.

      • decormaven

Probably got knocked off by the seatbelt. Wonder how those embellishments are attached? Hot glue? Sewn on like a button? They are just begging to be knocked off or broken. So impractical- but that’s fashion.

    • Heather

I’ll refrain from expressing judgement about Dreads, but who IS he? He kind of looks like Steve Coogan in a wig….

      • Fordzo

Who was that Counting Crows lead singer that everyone dated in the 90’s?

        • vahtel

          Adam Duritz.

          • Fordzo

Yes! I never understood his appeal. He’s dating someone really young and hot now, too, I think. Oh, now I have to google it.

            • vahtel

Me neither. Not to sound completely cynical, but fame + money + sensitive artist’s soul = catnip for some.

            • marlie

He was with Emmy Rossum for a while. is that who you’re thinking of?

      • marlie

Check out wiki. He’s a Canadian musician.

        • formerlyAnon

          John Kastner.

          • marlie

I saw it; I just wasn’t sure about including his name, since he’s supposed to be off-limits.

      • NinaBoo

In that first picture he looks like the love child of John Cusack and Mandy Patinkin. That can’t be mean because I like both of them, right?

    • E2_Remote

She looks a little like a walking Louis Vuitton bag from a distance, but overall a good look. I wish she’d lighten her hair color a little bit though, would make her look less severe.

    • Blair Sylvester

don’t like the big honking zipper and the fact that the whole back is black it just looks clumsy like they ran out of the embellished fabric. I like the black on the sides but think the back of the dress should be embellished

      • Fordzo

But could you imagine sitting on those decorations?

        • JDreesen

“aaaaaand if the devil doesn’t like it he can sit on a tack (ouch!)…”

oh come on. i can’t be the only one here, can i?

…oh dear god, i can be.

          • Fordzo

You got that joy, joy, joy, joy down in your heart?

            • JDreesen

              to stay!

            • Fordzo

Let your little light shine! Don’t hide it under a bushel!

I can sing Sunday School songs for DAYS. I can’t remember my own cell phone number, but I can sing all the Jesus hits.

          • foodycatAlicia

But am I the only one hearing it in Rod & Todd Flanders’ voices?

            • Fordzo

James Earl Jones. My Sunday School teacher was a old woman who smoked 3 packs a day.

            • JDreesen

              well, not anymore.

            • tereliz

“Do you want a VENGEFUL God, or a happy God?””Happy God!”

        • Blair Sylvester

couldn’t they use a print with the same embellishments being part of the print?

      • DinaSews

I want to rip out that ugly zipper and put in a new one.

    • LearnedFoot

Whoa! In the thumbnail pic I thought this was Parker Posey.

    • KinoEye

I was thinking the same thing about the bangs — they are absolutely perfect on her. Love the dress, but why the crazy eyes, Miss Jessica? You look wonderful.

    • littledamnhero

I thought she was Aubrey Plaza in the thumbnail.

      • gabbilevy

Glad I wasn’t the only one!

      • annabelle archer

I got a little Lily Allen, too.

      • poggi

        Me too.

    • Jessica Freeman

I agree with the notion that bangs are good for her, but these look like cheap clip ins. I do love the dress though, it was a good choice.

    • foodycatAlicia

I’d like the dress if it were half a size bigger, and I would like her fringe more if it were straight. Dreads did it in the bathroom with nail scissors before they went out, didn’t he?

    • Scimommy

“Don’t be mean to Dreads, guys”

I heard you snickering from 50 miles away.

      • diane {a spot of whimsy}

I heard them all the way from Chicago!

      • nannypoo

I think they mean it. He’s not a celebrity so he’s not fair game.

        • Fordzo

He’s a Canadian celebrity. Does that count?

          • marlie

I’d argue no. He might be fairly prominent there, but he doesn’t have as big of a name here (or any), and the “rules” for celebrities in Canada seem to be different than they are here, with fewer problems of the paparazzi stalking people’s every move.

            • Fordzo

Does that mean I have to stop mocking Celine Dion?

            • marlie

Oh, of course not. She’s a mega-star around the world, and has been courting the limelight for a couple of decades now. Have at it. 😉

          • nannypoo

Hmmm. Did not know that. I don’t know who a lot of the people featured on TLo are, and I can’t begin to identify their friends. So if he’s a celebrity I’ll say I like what he’s wearing and he has a nice face. Their picture reminds me of a time I was in New York City crossing a busy street and a complete stranger put his arm out to escort me across. So sweet.

      • Tom and Lorenzo

    • Danielle

      Cute, cute, cute!!

    • Kelly

I think the shoes are just the perfect choice. The models’ shoes turn the dresses frumpy (not that the lace-collar number needed much help in that direction), but Jessica’s add sophistication. She’s got the legs and feet for ankle straps, and I like the way the thick straps reference the black stripe on the sleeve. But ugh, do I hate that zipper.

    • Lilithcat

Love the dress, hate the visible zipper.

And Dreads needs to visit a barber, even if a shave and a haircut haven’t been two bits in ages.

      • Qitkat

I wish design schools would start with Home Ec 101, and make invisible zippers trendy again.

    • filmcricket

Dress is cute, shoes are great, hate the bangs.

    • CeeRich

I love this dress. Party in the front, business in the back.

    • SewingSiren

She looks stunning. I absolutely adore this look on her. Sexy and modern without being the least bit vulgar. Also extra bonus points for being seasonally appropriate (which so many of them can not seem to get).

    • BrooklynBomber

She: looks really young and cute.
He: the hairstyle really doesn’t suit his face, but he’s given thought to his clothes, so props for that.

      • another_laura

Agree about him. It’s just the wrong look for his shape of face. I like that peacoat-y jacket he has on and I think he probably ought to take off the necklace.

        • BrooklynBomber

I didn’t notice the necklace (choker, oh my!) but now that you mention it, yeah.

    • MilaXX

I don’t mind the bangs but the hair needs a bit of curl. I wish she had a warmer lip, but the dress is pretty and suits her well.

    • MoHub

Someone buy that girl a bra. Stat!

    • msdamselfly

      She looks great

    • boweryboy

That’s an ugly dress, but I lurve Pare so she still looks great in spite of it.

    • Imasewsure

I would never have recognized her but she looks gorgeous (as usual). Love this look on her (including the bangs)… Love the tighter shorter fit of the dress too.

    • Qitkat

I love this dress and I love it on her.

What say you kittens? Would this style of half black and half print be flattering on one of us fluffier kitties? Would it ‘fool’ the eye a bit? I’m imagining finding a relatively basic sewing pattern and attempting this.

      • housefulofboys

I like that idea. Remember the Stella McCartney dress that everyone was wearing a few months ago, with the black insets down either side? It had a tendency to make even skinny actresses look even wasp-ier wasted than usual. I am “fluffier” from my rear view than my front, so I’d be interested in how this comes out. Also, you only have to attach half as many sparklies!

      • SewingSiren

I think it would be marvelous regardless. DO IT!

      • BrooklynBomber

I like “fluffier” — good choice of word!

    • Saturnine

I dig this retro space-age dress. Love the color.

    • unbornfawn

She looks great. Would have loved a darker lip color.

    • Daisy Walker

Love the dress, but scroll-up fug. Bad haircut, bad makeup, bad crazy eyes.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I like this look on her! And yes, the bangs totally work for her face.

    • Anna Vasquez

Dreads can handle the heat. He actually doesn’t look like he’s scorning the dress at all. It’s more like he’s looking at a photographer and sneering, “Oh, we’re taking a little picture are we? Hmmm.”

    • Julie

Hey, the 90’s called and asked for their eye makeup back.

    • bellafigura1

Totally agree, especially about the hair. She looks her age for a change.

    • LeelaST

She doesn’t look like herself – a good thing imo.

    • Aidan B

Love this! The dress is chic and fun and she looks really happy to be wearing it.

    • pookiesmom

I feel like the hair color is a little severe for her coloring. She looks happy and fresh, though, so that’s something!

    • Cordelia_Gray

I’ve always found her very pretty, but like TLo said, her fashion looks seem to age her. She looks pretty and young here. Go Jessica!

    • prettybigkitty

Is she dating Adam Duritz from the Counting Crows?

    • pattie capet

I was hoping for a Kiernan Shipka sighting. She was on the red carpet last week in Preen and it was a fab look.

    • formerlyAnon

White boy dreads over . . . let’s be charitable. White boy dreads over 40 do even less for me than white boy dreads in general. I love dreads. But on persons whose hair doesn’t have to be tortured to death to pursue them (persons of color, generally, in other words).

But she looks cute and triple props to her for hanging with someone who might have more going for them than being one of the beautiful young men of the moment. And her shoes are cute.

    • MichelleRafter

Love this look on her; first thing I said (before reading to the end of T+L’s comments) was, wow, she looks 10 years younger.

    • Tracy_Flick

I think she needs to go up a size. The fit on the model – a bit loose – is much more flattering.

      Dreads. I can’t.

    • frannyprof

Wow! I didn’t even recognize her with the bangs and had to scroll up and down to convince myself this is the second Mrs. Ex-Don Draper. But there she is! Love the dress. Agree about the bangs.

    • siriuslover

She still has crazy eyes, but I love the dress.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Love her in Bangs! And that is definitely her dress!

    • AnniNoone

LOVE THE BANGS. They fix what is awkward about her face.

    • crash1212

Dreads on a white boy…I just can’t. That abomination aside – she looks really cute. I love this dress but am now completely over exposed zippers. Dear designers, please stop. Love, Crash. I like the idea of her with bangs, but can’t decide why they look so very odd and..separated so as to almost look like those clip-ons. At any rate…nicely done!

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Don’t normally love Erdem but this is totally her dress. (AND her hair!)

    • Violentcello

That’s the most expensive hospital gown I’ve ever seen. At least from the front. From the back it’s a boring black dress with with a big ugly zipper.

Her bangs look like she cut a straight line from eyebrow to eyebrow and her hair looks wrecked. That with the hospital gown and colorless face makes me think her buddy is breaking her out of a hospital in a limo.

    • Calinda_L

Maybe I’ve seen one too many photos of starlets arm-in-arm with a handler, but something tells me Dreads is perhaps a living, breathing crutch to make sure Jessica “Blotto” Pare doesn’t bang plant, er, I mean, face plant. Keep up the good work, Dreads!

Speaking of bangs… these bangs make me question my own bang choices more than any I’ve seen before (*slowly side-sweeping my bangs…*). Bangs, in general, might work on her, but *these* bangs look like a hack job.

    • littlemac8

I love that dress and the shoes too. She looks great with bangs. WIN!!!

    • E. D.

Like the hair, but not the dress.

    • Monica

Of course her boyfriend would dread. He’s giving me a ‘Cowardly Lion’ vibe.

    • Ma. Gabriella Dutari

I think this fringe is too blunt and severe. IMO, she would benefit from something a little bit softer

    • Lily-Rygh

I never know quite what to make of it when celebrities pull the same accessories from the runway version, but I REALLY don’t know what to make about our Jess pulling the same HAIR!

Still, she looks really cute here. No denying..

    • Terri Terri

      Agree, agree, agree!

    • quiltrx

She looks like she may have had one too many of something. She should have gotten the cute shoes to go with. I’m not sure about the bangs. Of course i’m not sure about her, either.

    • gracieloo

every time i see her i just want to give her some crest white strips

    • Jacob Bowen

Sassy gay friend totally says: “PS. This is the best your hair has ever looked!” That is DEFINITELY a great cut for her face-shape.

    • Liz Leonard Nelson

Is that Don Draper in Dreads?

    • Vera

      She’s super cute here.

    • JmD

Never recognized her at first but Jessica does look super cute with bangs and the dress is absolutely sweet and gorgeous.

    • Mazenderan

Nope for me. Hate the back/front thing with the dress, the exposed zip, and the neckline. The hair is choppy and unflattering, and her makeup is making her look unwell. Again, an incredibly stunning woman – but not in this.

    • Alloy Jane

Love her hair. Hate the back of that dress, not sold on the shoes. She looks cute and happy.

    • EEKstl

She looks great, love the dress. Is she married to Dreads? I see a ring, but maybe it’s just a cool loaner.
