Jessica Paré at the Banana Republic L’Wren Scott Collection Launch Party

Posted on November 20, 2013

Who styled the looks for this party? Because they overdid it, both here and with Christina.

“Mad Men” star Jessica Paré attends the launch celebration of the Banana Republic L’Wren Scott Collection at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California.

Banana Republic L’Wren Scott Collection

We’re surprised they let two Mad Men stars walk the red carpet in such similar looks, right down to the same draped cardigan. Having said that, we like the look, but we once again think that cardi would look better paired with pants or jeans. Love the red skirt; still only so-so on the uber-ruffled blouse.

But sweet Jesus on a breadstick, what the hell is going on with that Coalminer’s Daughter hair of hers? We said the other day that she should always have bangs, but she took that advice and really ran with it, didn’t she? Honey, tone down the booms. You look good with bangs, but not with this gigantic swag hanging off your brow.

For being a tall, slim, pretty woman, she just can’t get it right, can she?

    • Imasewsure

Even though I accused Christina of DIY hair and makeup, I don’t think we can blame our ladies here for their atrocious looks today. The Banana Republic “stylists” did this to them… they took the checks but I”m guessing they were cashed before they had to come out in these gawd awful outfits (except the skirt… it’s cute)

  • She has wig hair. Not saying it is a wig, saying that if I went into a wig store, I could point out that wig and ask for it in black.

    • StarburstLady

Yeah, along with the make-up that’s more than a touch too heavy on the contouring, she kinda looks like a drag queen…

      • NYCGlamourpuss

And that’s an insult to drag queens!

  • filmcricket

Still hate the bangs, don’t think any of that’s her real hair. Jessica, as gorgeous as La Hendricks is, she is not the Mad Men co-star you want to be taking style cues from. Please take Kiernan Shipka out for lunch and get her to share her secrets.

    • JulieTy

      Ditto January Jones.

    • EveEve

Bangs are for sure not hers – hard to tell about the rest.

  • Sobaika

That is some crazy ass wiggy hair. And if her face is shrouded in ink-black hair, she needs to soften the makeup.

  • Shannon Beamer

First words out of my mouth upon seeing these pictures were “JESUS NO.” On further reflection, I’m sticking with that response.

    • charlotte

      Zou bisou bi NO!

  • Frank_821

Her hair is a like something Lily Tomlin would have for 1 of her characters

    • Julie Ree

Or left over from Cher during her Sonny and Cher Show days.

  • pookiesmom

I like it better on Christina.

  • Kirsty

What’s with these ridiculous Supergirl-esque cardigan capes from hell? I always think she is beautiful with wonderful skin and could look amazing, but somehow she is more often than not poorly styled. She has gone from the severe centre parting to wiggy fringes.

    • kimmeister

Maybe they’re wildly itchy on the inside of the arms, so neither one could bear to actually put it on properly.

  • Yikes.

    • demidaemon

      I know. Double Yikes.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

        Yikedy Yikes.

  • Pennymac

Geez. I can’t decide which look is worse, hers or Christinas. All that beauty, and all those clothing resources, and THIS is what they come up with? Eww. NO.

  • hughman

Boris is out chasing that silly moose.

    • formerlyAnon

And for good or bad, that’s EXACTLY what I like about this!

      • hughman

I love it too! I went to the USSR way way back in 78 when I graduated from HS (when it was still Communist) and our Russian tour guides names were Boris and Natasha. They did not understand why we found it hilarious.

        • formerlyAnon

You wouldn’t be making that up, would you? It’s just TOO good!

          • hughman

No, I’m not!! I was just 16 too!

          • formerlyAnon

You clearly started collecting your store of scintillating anecdotes early!

          • hughman

Lol. Oh doll, you have no idea.

          • rh33

Does this make TLo our Fearless Leaders?

          • NYCGlamourpuss

But vhat about moose und squirrel?

          • rh33

Busy answering fan mail from a flounder.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

WHY is this so freakin’ hard?? Stylists are failing right and left around these parts. Between this and the Catching Fire mess… I’m SMDH. That hair has got to be on the 2013 worst list.

    • marlie

At this point, any of the regular bitter kittens kittens could do a better job of styling these ladystars on the red carpet.

    • lunchcoma

I’m particularly annoyed by this one, because Jessica Pare is tall, slim, relatively young, and conventionally good-looking. That’s not enough to turn her into a fashion icon, but she’s exactly who a lot of clothes are designed to flatter, and it shouldn’t be hard to get her into “pretty but dull” territory at the very least.

  • Danielle

  • boweryboy

    Good lord.

  • butterflysunita

That’s the worst I’ve ever seen Jessica Pare look.

  • Shug

I need that skirt. Immediately. The outfit as a whole, yikes.

    • kimmeister

I’ll fight you for that skirt.

      • Shug

        Challenge accepted.

  • NoveltyRocker

    Those bangs are clip-on, right?

    • MilaXX

looks like that’s a wig, which us why the hair is darker than her normal hair

    • EveEve

Either clip on or the whole get up is artificial. She has a very low natural hair line and seems to have a cowlick to boot – those booms ain’t hers.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I dunno… those bangs look heavy enough that I’d say they were nailed on.

      • NoveltyRocker

Yeah, they didn’t look so perfectly full in the other post. The entire head looks pretty wiggy now that I look at it again. Head scratcher.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Girl You Are Not Goth Jessica Biel.

  • Mona_Visa

So much effort to achieve so little.

  • Not feeling those bangs, and while I like the pattern on the shirt, the ruffles take the outfit too far.

  • jen

    The bangs are horrendous.

  • Uh oh. How did this happen? Talk about one hand not knowing what the other is doing. I can’t believe that one person gave almost identical outfits to two cast mates. And it doesn’t even look good on either one of them!

  • formerlyAnon

If the hair were toned down I think this would be a killer look for her.

  • BarniClaw

I’m kind of sad that this is part of the job for actresses now: modeling for a [insert chain store/fashion house/puppy-flavored candles here] ad campaign w/o the benefits of lighting or photoshop or talented stylists. I mean, I get the movie promotion stuff, but can they choose to opt out of this kind of thing and still be successful? [I know the BKs have some examples of this…] Or is the money just too awesome to pass up?

    • it might be pretty cool to get paid to go to parties, though. even if they make you wear ugly crap. probably gets old fast, though.

    • EveEve

Was just thinking the same thing. Legitimate and well-respected actors and actresses hawk all sorts of merch on runways and at “events” to compete for the public’s attention. This isn’t a new thing by any means, but it seems to be more and more common. Seems like the stylists, instead of assisting the celeb in making good style choices, are now running the show.

  • marlie

Darn, she’s back to that mouth-open expression again.

This outfit is cute. What I really want to know is, where are the skirts that she and Christina are wearing? I want (along with the sparkly cardigans).

Her hair makes me so sad. The super-heavy bangs are not her friend, and the dark dye job seems more severe here.

    • Sarah

Right? I like botha them. And they are conspicuously absent from that rundown of the collection we saw earlier. (And better than it was, too.)

  • Anathema_Device

The exaggerated high waist of that skirt looks terrible with a blouse that fussy. Similar blouse w/o the ruffles, or just a little strip of ruffles, would be better.

Her hair is really fake looking. And unflattering.

  • I can’t remember changing my mind about a hairstyle so quickly in my life.

  • GeoDiva

These pieces are separates! They are not meant to be worn all together!!! Ugh!

  • Sarah

This is what my bangs looked like this morning, after I took the curling iron to them and held it there for a count of thirty. THEN I MESSED THAT UP. Cuz yeesh, I don’t wanna look like Small Wonder.

  • another_laura

Hell to the no! All of those ruffled blouses with the busy patterned fabric should go somewhere and die. Now.

  • MilaXX

Was itandatory that all the women wear that red sweater? Also , her hair looks like a cheap wig

  • Tracy_Flick

Are the sleeves sewn closed on that cardigan?

    • decormaven

Good call! I think it’s a little mini-cape. Let’s all wear one for the holidays!

  • jessica, mon petit choux, can we talk? this hair, i am not feeling it. it is like a shiny black patent leather helmet. are you in there? the skirt, on the other hand, c’est magnifique!

  • ThaliaMenninger

When a skirt makes Jessica Pare look lumpy, there is something wrong with that skirt.

  • Saturnine

Where in the world are all the pretty clothes today? Maybe I’m just midweek grumpy, but starting from Sarah Hyland on nothing at all appealed to me, not even Cathy Cambridge’s coats. Alan Cumming gets the only pass today. **flounces out**

  • MK03

Laziest stylist ever. “Hey, they’re both on Mad Men, let’s just slap the same look on them and call it a day.”

  • demidaemon

Everything is weirdly off-kilter here. It’s making me slightly cross-eyed.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I don’t care WHO you put in this collection – it just blows.

  • Jessica Freeman

I like the idea of the outfit, but the skirt is too high waisted for my liking. The booms are insane. Scale it back, Jess.

  • Kelly

I have to conclude that this “super-obvious wig” motif is deliberate — first Christina (whose wigs are usually much more subtle) and now Jessica’s bangs. It can’t be an accident. So is “look at my wig/fake hair!” going to be a thing now?

    • Jessica Freeman

Blame Gaga…I think she started it!

      • Kelly

Good idea! You can never go wrong blaming Gaga.

  • Anne

I think without the ugly draped cardigan it would be about a million times better. I love that skirt, actually.

  • crash1212

I really love this collection (except that cardigan, which I HATE…and I am the Queen of Cardigans!) – in spite of how it’s being presented/styled. Love this skirt. As for the bangs…in this instance the “less is more” rule of thumb applies.

  • this makes her look so so old.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

“What a nice day it is outside – I wonder what I should wear today? Since I have so many nice things, I think I’ll just wear everything I own.” (Not my joke, I totally stole it from some comic I saw on TV in the early 80s, but I like to trot it out every once in a while)

“Someone help me, these bangs are weighing down my head, I can feel my clavicle breaking!” (My joke that time…)

  • rage_on_the_page

    Serving Lily Tomlin realness.

  • Pound of Salt

I don’t know, I think that skirt looks tacky as hell. Actually ditto all of it. And clearly that cardigan doesn’t have working arm holes.

  • xay

This blouse looks less like a vivsection so the outfit in general looks better. But the hair and makeup are so severe that it just doesn’t work.

  • akprincess72

  • Hildegerd Haugen

I actually liked this since weird is good and boring is bad.

  • e jerry powell

Wow. This wasn’t that long ago.

    R.I.P., Ms. Scott.
