Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior at the “Hunger Games” Paris Premiere

Posted on November 18, 2013

The good news is they finally figured out what to do with her hair.

Jennifer Lawrence attends “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” Paris Premiere at Le Grand Rex in a Christian Dior dress paired with Christian Louboutin sling back pumps and jewelry by Ana Khouri and Monique Péan/Pamela Love.

Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture Collection

Christian Louboutin Air Chance Peekaboo Slingback Red Sole Pump. Monique Péan/Pamela Love MPL Topaz Planetary Spike Ring. Ana Khouri Ear Cuff.

We only wish it was a couple shades darker, for a more dramatic effect. But at least they finally figured out the length and the shape.

The bad news is, this dress clearly only works for her when she’s posing for a magazine cover. Sorry, but that is way too much side and under-boob for this year’s Best Actress winner. Call us old-fashioned. Besides, that’s not the kind of sexy that Jen does best. It’s an awkward, weirdly shaped dress that shouldn’t be worn outside a runway or fashion photographer’s studio. We hate to be so negative, but this style marriage is not helping her or helping the house of Dior. She’s stuck in a whole bunch of clothes that don’t look good on her at a time when the whole word is looking at her, and they’re having the awkwardness of their present designs revealed to a much wider audience than the one who follows fashion closely and can name the current creative director. It’s just bad branding all around.

On the other hand, that earring is hot.

  • I don’t even like that dress on the model. I think its an overwrought over thought mess of a dress. Way too many elements competing for attention. They eye has no idea where to go. And sadly, it doesn’t go to her face, which should always be objective #1.

    • “The eye must travel” but it must have an objective, to update a DVism.

      • boweryboy

On a slightly unrelated note, that documentary on DV is awesome!

        • I just saw that this weekend – she is such an amazing accomplishment of a human being!

    • kirkyo

She’s trying her best but the dress is just plain ugly. The top looks like it was sown by a drunk person.

      • AnneElliot

SO MUCH going on — weird asymmetrical top, asymmetrical pleating, illusion netting. And the lengthy is horrible. I want to see her in Calvin Klein, like at the Oscars in 2011.

    • PeggyOC

Concur. That is NO ONE’S dress. Dior should hang its collective head in shame.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s a mess of a dress. and a stain on the House that Dior built.

    • Tracy_Flick

It’s never a good sign when an article of clothing makes you want to run up to the wearer and fix it. It sort of looks like she left a pin or two in it when she unpacked it.

  • Emilee Clark

The length of that dress is so awkward too. The last picture makes it look like she doesn’t even have legs.

  • decormaven

Can we get a Kickstarter going to get her out of the Dior gig? Because it’s just not happening- and it’s depressing to see her try to elevate looks that are not appropriate for her. I do agree with the uncles’ assessment on hair and earring- those elements are pleasing.

    • Imasewsure

Wouldn’t that be fabulous… “Here Girl… we did this for you”….. we could buy up the contracts of actors we hate, eliminate horrible fashion trends (I’m looking at you, side boob and don’t think you can hide from me hoof heels!!”)….. 🙂

    • Aurumgirl

I think the problem is more that Dior is only interested in pushing their own business–and whoever is trying to do that with Jennifer Lawrence is not choosing the clothing for her that will work for both the promotion she’s obligated to do for her own projects, as well as for the Dior line. It’s like they expect her to cut off her own income just so they can increase theirs. Hopefully she’ll realize the contract wasn’t such a hot idea after all.

    • ana170

Part of the problem is that the current Dior collection is hideous. I don’t think anyone can elevate those looks.

  • Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

The length of the dress is not helping, either.

  • Noah

    • MarieLD

I think it’s really just boob. That’s like nearly the whole boob there.

    • mshesterp

She has lovely breasts (what a phrase to type!), but I now feel like I know what she looks like naked, and that’s too. much. information. Love the dark lipstick and the shoes. And the hair! But everything in the middle is just fussy.

I don’t know who Dior’s current Creative Director is, but I don’t want to after looking at all these messy, ill-fitting J. Law clothes. Bleh.

      • AnneElliot

Agree about the nakedness. It’s just a little too much.

  • Her head is flawless.

    • kmk05

She is rocking that makeup. I’m actually gobsmacked! And the hair is working, because I’m finally not noticing it except for how it’s working for her.

  • cocohall

The FNO (For No One) Dress. Dirndl pleats and illusion netting all in one garment. And in hefty bag black? Somebody at Christian Dior please drop a bottle of mood elevators in the water cooler. Cause your sad is threatening to bust out like a SARs epidemic. Alert the CFC (Center for Fashion Control). STAT.

  • bertkeeter

EVERY F N THING she wears from RAF is a TRAIN WRECK! Better things have been voted off Project Runway! Every editor is TERRIFIED to criticize DIOR because of their $$$ they spend on ads! This is HORRENDOUS!

    • My sentiments exactly. Thank you for saving me the trouble of trying to articulate them at 11:45 PM EST.

Plus, that doesn’t even look like Jennifer Lawrence. They may have made her hair look better but they lost her personality in the bargain.

  • alyce1213

Horrible dress. No one’s dress. Oh Jennifer.

  • Violina23

Ewwwww… It makes her body look misshapen, and the makeup is just… Ugh I can’t even with this look. She’s gorgeous, this just makes me sad

    • Sobaika

      Foundation set to: Jack White

    • Vickiefantastico

Yes! What’s up with the makeup? Are we going for a ghost look now with really, really dark lips? I don’t get it.

  • Jessica Freeman

The only good news is there is one more movie and hopefully she will be out of her Dior contract by then. This pole dance has been bad bad bad for her.

    • Imasewsure

I think if they threw open the Dior closet, they could make her look amazing (since she is actually a beautiful woman). This crap is for the Audreybot…

    • demidaemon

Actually, I believe there will be two more poledances, as they are splitting the last book into two movies, as is the trend de jour. So, hopefully, if she looks at the photos of the last few RCs and sees the feedback, we could have two Dior-free (or mostly Dior free) poledances.

  • Where is the Jennifer Lawrence we all fell in love with? This is Evan Rachel Wood, and not even a new version of.

    • charlotte

This made me think of Evan Rachel Wood as well.

  • Kelly

Hate this. Accordion-pleated satin. A bodice that looks like it’s made out of electrical tape. An a-symmetrical cut and sheer panels that make her breasts look droopy. Shoes that look as if her feet had to be wedged into them with shoehorns. It just gets worse and worse. And every time I see the hair, I hate it more. It renders her face utterly un-distinctive.

    • Adriana_Paula

Yep; in the first photo she looks like Kaley Cuoco, whom I like, but come on.

    • Sabin

When the dress looks like something out of a SNL parody of “Sister Wives Grt Sexxxy” something is badly amiss.

      Complete with Bling! bluetooth earpiece.

  • sagecreek

The bad news is that she is unrecognizable.

    • BP180

Seriously. I’m surprised to see TLo praised this hair/makeup combo.

  • DominoEstella

I’m not ok with this lipstick shade on her.. It’s just way too dark. It’s like they looked at the LV ads Michelle Williams did and decided to go with the same hair and makeup.

    • Lanus

Yeah, that is not her shade. But, it is mine (note my dark hair and massive eyebrows…not JLaw territory) and I need it. Is the makeup Dior as well? Any guesses for shade?

  • ShaoLinKitten

Oh Jen. This outfit is tragic. I love hair and makeup, and the jewelry is great, but that dress should be nuked from orbit, and the shoes look like murder.

  • Laurie Landry

Eh, I’ve nothing nice to say. That dress make her breasts look all askew, loathe the ear thing, dislike the shoes, hair is too light and lips are too dark. And I’m done. Sorry!

  • majorbedhead

I don’t even think it looks like her. I’m getting Catherine O’Hara in the profile head shot and I don’t know who else in most of the other shots. That girl that was Heath Ledger’s girlfriend shortly before he died. English girl. I can never remember her name.

That dress is 87 kinds of hideous.

    • Kent Roby

The dress is only 83 kinds of hideous. If I told you once not to exaggerate, I told you a million times!

  • lunchcoma

What on earth is going on with her and Dior? She’s one of the most visible actresses at the moment, and they keep putting her in things that are horribly wrong. Do they not have anything that would suit her? She doesn’t strike me as being exceptionally hard to dress, but maybe their whole collection is wrong…

    • marlie

Everything (or almost everything) in Dior’s most recent collection is wrong. Another poster mentioned that she might be better served if they went back in the vaults to find dresses for her, and that would probably be a good idea. That way, she could still honor her contract with them, AND wear clothes that aren’t so gawdawful.

      • lunchcoma

That sounds like the best way to cope with this catastrophe.

Though I question the judgment of whoever chose her as a representative in the first place.Surely they must have some insight into what the next year’s lines might look like, and Marion Cottilard could of done a much better job at showing off some of these looks.

        • marlie

Oh, absolutely. I don’t think she was the right choice in the first place, but since they’re stuck together (for now), there are so many things that they could do to at least send her out on the red carpet NOT looking like crap.

  • Trickytrisha

Well, I think her face (a tad too pale) and hair (ditto) are absolutely glorious. The dress, on the other hand is beyond blechy, as have been 80% of the clothes Dior has provided for these premieres. Shame on them for foisting their sub-par designs on this young woman who has the potential to be a fashion superstar, not an object of pity.

  • CatherineRhodes

I completely agree that JLaw is not a good fit for Dior. But in fairness to her, this is a really ugly frankendress that would look good on nobody (even the model).

  • Imasewsure

Agreed about DIor… can’t believe they don’t have something that would work beautifully on this beautiful woman but they are pushing what they want to push no matter how it looks. Great from the neck up!!

  • JasmineAM

Nah, I still hate her hair, and her makeup is waaaaaay too harsh.
I swear to god, she’s morphing into Leelee Sobieski.

  • Boobs Radley

I love pretty much everything but the dress, which is a pretty big but.

  • clatie

Is there any make-up left in France? I wouldn’t necessarily have known it was her. Not saying it’s bad, it’s just A LOT.

  • Erica

If it looks like both of your titties are trying to escape, it ain’t the dress for you.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

She’s giving off some Evan Rachel Wood vibes here with her hair and face.

  • MilaXX

Yeah, the look is just okay, but I love the hair/makeup here. I want that ear cuff badly. Janelle Monae has one she wears in her video that has me drooling.

  • SugarSnap108

That dress looks like a series of terrible mistakes. It’s no one’s kind of sexy.

  • Fordzo

    Who dat?

  • Jaeda Laurez

From the neck up, and the ankles down, I love it. That dress is awful, full stop.

  • CommentsByKatie

Couldn’t agree more, uncles. Hair is beautiful and the dress is a huge misfire. I’m sure there are Dior looks out there that suit her…why are they dressing her in this weird stuff? Poor J Law. That sideboob is so awkward.

  • Lily-Rygh

The earring looks like the stuff Prince was wearing around…what was it…late-90s, maybe? His were often crescent moons, if memory serves…

  • SewingSiren

Is she wearing half a bra? That is all I can see.

  • andi56

That dress is an acid flashback to 7th grade home ec, 1968. Picture the scene, if you will. Me, a Singer sewing machine, a lot of black satin fabric, tuille, and netting. Lots of tears, a dress that ended up looking JUST LIKE THIS, and Mrs. Torbush telling my mother I’d never catch a husband, because I couldn’t sew. Thanks a pantload for the memory, Dior! Now, where my wineglass….?

    • kittentoes

I’m curious. Did you catch a husband?

      • andi56

No! But not because I couldn’t sew! : ) I think I just forgot, kittentoes!

    • Candice Booth

Astonishing that a teacher felt an obligation to say and let alone think such a thought.

      • andi56

Oh, it was 1968, and Mrs. T. was from Alabama! But you’re so right. : )

  • MGMcD

I need both pieces of jewelry in my life. She can keep the trash baggy dress.

  • marlie

Her hair and makeup are fantastic. LOVE. Her accessories are also gorgeous. I covet her shoes, that ring, and even the earring.

But that dress is really freaking ugly. The side and underboob issues are second to the overall ugliness of the dress.

  • bingo

I loathe the makeup here. with her skin tone that burgundy red lipstick and creamy white foundation are giving me vertigo.

  • quiltrx

Again, she looks so much better in the DIOR type Diors…not these weird modern ones. I definitely agree the hair should be darker. The shape is really suiting her face.
I want to put her in a suit and see her give off some “Hitchcock Icy Blonde” realness!

  • GeoDiva

Ugh! The boobage is weird, the shoes look like her foot is squeezed into them and the length of the dress is too long. I only like the ear cuff.

  • Gatto Nero

The proportions/length of the dress work much better on the model; Lawrence is too short for it. Side-boobage is awful.
The dress aims for artful and misses by a mile.

  • Chevalle

    Love her lips.

  • Jennifer Ford

Upon Seeing Just the Hair: “Doesn’t she look lovely!”
And then the Dress: “Oh, that dress is AWFUL!”

  • Kathy

I’m happy to live in a world where it’s okay for a Best Actress winner to show side and under boob. Why not?

  • nannypoo

    So bad.

  • Jacob Bowen

Even the FIERCE hair and cool jewelry can not resurrect this dress from a 0 out of 10. God, that hair is PERFECT though. I need her hair stylist!

  • mightbewrong

That’s an absolute ton of sideboob, and that’s not something I usually care about that much. They did the best they could but she just doesn’t look like herself.

  • MzzPants

That dress is a hot mess.

  • Lattis

The earring is cool, and it is great with the short hair – but, I’m not sure how you guys could have resisted a Ferengi comment. Just sayin.

  • rainwood1

The interesting part for me is that everything looks so uncomfortable – the dress, the shoes she’s stuffed into, the double pointy ring that could double as a weapon, the other ring jammed on the top part of her index finger, and the size and weight of that earring with posts at both ends. That outfit is like a quintuple ouch.

  • GillianHolroyd

The zipper hanging off her boob cracks me up. Dior, you’re all class.

  • ChristySchiff

At first glance I thought this was Julianne Hough because of the makeup.

Also, that ear cuff is the weirdest thing I have ever seen (or typed).

  • Whoa! She keeps surprising me. I’m talking about her face and hair, of course.
The dress is an overworked mess that doesn’t even look ggod o the model.

  • Mona_Visa

Because every girl wants a black satin accordion in front of her crotch.

  • MoHub

The top looks as if there wasn’t enough of the skirt material to make a bodice, so whatever scraps were available were cut into strips and draped around the top. And when there still wasn’t enough fabric, someone grabbed some illusion netting and used it to fill the front gap. Nothing looks properly planned or, executed.

  • MannahattaMamma

the shoes make my feet weep in sympathy

  • MW

She has a spectacular sideboob but I don’t know if that’s the best thing to show off under these circumstances, for me this is all a hot mess.

  • valerie747

I want to biopsy that mole on her right middle finger.

  • Jessica O’Connell

I’m really mad at Dior for doing this to Jennifer Lawrence. This is horribly wrong.

  • Kathy

I wish she had said no to this one. She’s stunning, but the dress is all kinds of hiddie.

  • SylviaFowler

    She is an eyesore.

  • crash1212

Love all the accessories, but that dress is awful as a dress in general and on Jen specifically. If a dress makes a model’s boobs look saggy, no regular human should ever set foot in it. Dior and anybody choosing the Dior for Jen should be ashamed for the styles they’re putting her in.

  • NBG

Great hair and accessories undone by a fugly dress. Usually it’s the other way around.

  • ashtangajunkie

Perfect from the neck up. Percentage-wise, we’re not doing too great here.

  • rage_on_the_page

God, I am liking that fall line less and less the more I see of it.

  • formerlyAnon

    Hair, as noted, good.
I want the earring for my daughter.
I think the dress looks overworked and overwrought on the model, so she never had a chance.

  • MaggieMae

Nope, this pole dance is not working for me. The clothes are not fitting what I think of as her personality.

  • lobsterlen

The dress is horrible. Not only side boobs but it makes her boobs look like they are hanging past her navel. And its not Jennifer … the dress is a mess on the model too … the dress makes her like she has wide hips, wide shouldered with a little tiny head. Horrible.

  • Joanna

Face and hair are OUTSTANDING in my book. Dress is a no.

  • KinoEye

Girl, that IS your hair. Finally! The lipstick is a bit harsh for her skin tone, but I love to see a fellow pale lady rock it like that. Would cut a bitch, or two, for that earring.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Love the hair, the ear jewelry is gorg-but no to the dress.

  • jilly_d

Serving up Leelee Sobieski realness with that head.

  • She looks like she was mauled by a mountain lion on the way to the red carpet.

  • golden_valley

That dress doesn’t even look good on the model. No one could wear it well.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Actually, I love this dress a lot! I agree, it needs to be fitted to her – the side boob is too much, and it needs to be adjusted in the waist. But the dress is gorgeous, I can’t argue that.

  • Not applicable

I like the light hair and refined make up. Bold lip color, eyebrows done, sculpted hair… She actually looks made up– finished– for once and while I love her fresh face- this is a nice change.

  • Alexander Peterhans

    Cyborg Betty Draper!

  • gigi kennedy

love the hair & make up! dress not so much

  • Kent Roby

Umm, well, as far as “side boob” goes, hers is lovely, but that dress is just dreadful: shiny, too full, puckered, underboob slit, just horrid. And my feet hurt seeing hers stuffed into those shoes. What a disappointment, I was really excited by the thumbnail, seeing my Jen having a goth moment.

  • EttaKit

Love her head. Hate everything below that…except the shoes. The shoes aren’t offensive.

  • girlsaturday

Oh look, it’s a less interesting, shinier version of Diana Eng’s Nicky Hilton dress.

  • Erica_Vuitton

Hi Jen – Evan Rachel Wood would like her head back, thanks!!

Seriously she has to hate herself in this right? What an awful, ugly, torchered dress!

  • Michelle Gennari

I don’t like the top of this dress at all. It makes for a weird boobage all over the place.

  • LeelaST

I don’t like it on the model either.

  • LJCdoc

That dress is an atrocity. I suspect the only reason it worked on the cover is photoshop.

  • Tracy_Flick

Just hand over the ring, and I’ll be willing to forget about the rest.

  • ThaliaMenninger

The dress doesn’t look good on the model, either. The boob thing is just not working. Love the hair, though. And the dramatic color (or lack thereof) in the dress looks great on her. I’m just not loving the shape of that dress at all.

  • Shawn EH

Stop the boob attacks, evil dress!

  • Sadie-Ann

Just looking at this dress is making me uncomfortable. Like the whole world is a little bit crooked.

  • PeaceBang

The frock is a disaster. The lady herself is gorgeous and I love the lipstick. But I would eat a tarantula for that ring.

  • fursa_saida

I love everything about this look for someone else. She’s just too sunny for this. Give it all to Audreybot (or me. Feel free to give it to me, especially the ear cuff) and we’re in business.

  • Daktari100

Her transition from fresh-faced girl actress to movie star is officially complete.

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

  • guest2visits

She’s so beautiful, it almost doesn’t matter that there’s too much side boob; but it gets messy looking at the side panels, and it really didn’t need the extra sheer strip down front. Dior gave her another problem-dress. Love the color, the shoes and the rest of the styling.
