Jennifer Lawrence Double Shot

Posted on November 15, 2013

It’s time once again to check in on Katniss and see how she’s doing.

Jennifer Lawrence attends “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” photocall during the 8th Rome Film Festival at the Auditorium Parco Della Musica in Rome in a Proenza Schouler dress paired with Saint Laurent shoes, an Elahn ring, a EF Collection cuff, and Graziela Gems earrings.

There you go. That’s the girl. It’s like everything we’ve been bitching about has been addressed. She’s in a dramatic, high-contrast dress that flatters her shape. Her shoes are killa and her makeup is … acceptable. But the hair’s made a turnaround. This is the first time it’s really worked for us, possibly because they didn’t try to zhuzh it up too much.

On the other hand, it’s pretty zhuzhed here and we actually like it:

Jennifer Lawrence attends “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” premiere during The 8th Rome Film Festival at Auditorium Parco Della Musica in Rome, Italy in a Christian Dior gown paired with Dana Rebecca Designs earrings, an Ana Khouri cuff, and Manolo Blahnik shoes.

Although she looks a little like Leelee Sobieski here. The shape of the dress works really well, but the colors make it look like she peed herself.

That’s some QUALITY fashion commentary right there.

No. Hair is still not working for me and neither is the pee sparkle dot dress.

The first offering is pretty slammin, though.

    • Louise Bryan

I was thinking how much this reminded me of her look at the Academy Awards. The color and shape of the dress are vastly different, of course, but it’s another strapless gown with her hair brushed back (no updo here, because no hair to updo).

      • 3boysful

I still covet the Chopard diamonds by the yard she wore to those awards.

  • Better.

(yep, tha’s all you’re geting out of me. I’m still bitter.)

    • Kristina Sadowski

A nerdy part of me is seeing that random sparkle thing as a bedazzled Mockingjay pin. But, I’m mostly just playing fashion Rorschach by myself.

    • fursa_saida

Well, bitterness is in the job description.

    • kimmeister

It’s like she accidentally placed a cup on her dress instead of on a coaster.

    • JDreesen

not bitter. justified. i had actually assumed – briefly – that it was a splotch on my screen and thought, “when did i last do a coffee spit-take while sitting here and not immediately clean my monitor?”

    • shirab

I thought the dress had a modest, testing-the-waters tattoo.

  • Danielle

I can’t sign off unless they both have pockets.

  • xmixiex

THERE we go. Not great, but SO MUCH BETTER.
I just hate the toggle things on her boobs on the first dress.

  • Someone read the Huffington Post article on pixie cuts today…

  • JanW

Trouble with the short cut is that she looks better with her hair off her face.

  • sugarkane105

As a straight lady, I find she makes my pants move more than any of the boy stars in the previous post.

    • Me too.

      • PeaceBang

I’m right there with you gals. She’s got that thing. Although I don’t feel that it’s necessary to sing the entire Cole Porter song, I would for her. That first look is DIVOON. The shoes are a bit heavy but everything else is utterly fabulous. She just nails it.

“but the colors make it look like she peed herself.

That’s some QUALITY fashion commentary right there.”

    Hahahahahahahaha! Snort!

    OMG, you slay me!

  • Donyelle

If she’s gonna do short hair, she should see Charlize’s stylist and colorist.

  • Emily Dagger

As different as these are, the same thing keeps me from unreservedly loving both of them — the schmatz stuck randomly to the front. Rip the dumb squares off the blue dress and the craft store snowflake off the gown, and I’ll take one of each, please. Size four; the pool boy will sign for the packages.

  • procrastinatrice

The first one is fantastic! Pretty much a werq, if not a WERQ! The second dress is…just stupid. WTF, Dior? A random circle of sparkly shit, on an artfully-wrapped-bedsheet dress? I do not understand.

  • Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

Girl, I really like you, but don’t listen to the ones who say you have to search for your inner Charlize.

  • Stella Zawistowski

Do NOT understand the sparkly mole on the second dress. Otherwise, I’m a fan of both looks.

  • Rand Ortega

“The shape of the dress works really well, but the colors make it look like she peed herself.
That’s some QUALITY fashion commentary right there.”

    TLo drops the mic, exits!

    • marlie

Every one of their commentaries should end that way.

  • Jacob Bowen

The first dress does not need those stupid buttons, otherwise it is SUPER cute. The second set has GREAT hair and a not so great dress.

    • Alloy Jane

Yeah, I hate those buttons too. Otherwise, I like the dress. Still not sold on the hair. The second look does not merit words. I blew a raspberry at it.

  • marlie

I like the first dress, but it looks like the bodice is a little too big for her.

The second dress underwhelms me, because the bottom is just… weird. The mullet skirt with that stupid sequined thingy… Nope. Though I think she looks like a young Meryl Streep, especially in the 3rd picture of her in the yellow – she really looks beautiful there.

And in both cases, I like her hair, though I’ve liked it all along.

    • V No Privacy

Yes! I want to tailor the bodice of the first dress just a tad.

  • Erica_Vuitton

Again in another designer for a photo call and in Dior for the premiere just like yesterday! AND just like yesterday she looks great in the other designer and like crap in the Dior. Seriously Jen when does your contract end because you need to realize GIRL this is NOT your brand.

  • The Counselor

Does the fabric of the first dress have a print that makes it look digitally pixelated, or is my monitor doing something really funky?

    • MilaXX

Showing up pixelated for me as well.

      • charlotte

And JLaw showed up pixielated. (I had to)

  • MilaXX

I like both of these looks, but I have to admit the random Olympic metal on the second look is puzzling.

    • Kathy

From a distance, I thought that was something like a Japanese crest stamp. That would have been interesting I guess, but no such luck.

  • Bridget Smith

Love the first look, head to toe.

But more importantly: this photographer should be FIRED. Every shot is cockeyed, slightly out of focus, and weirdly splotchy.

    • Kathy

Yup, I see pixilation in that first dress because it’s dark.

      • marlie

OK, I thought it was my monitor. Glad I’m not alone.

        • Kathy

The only thing that looks pixilated is the dark dress, but the rest of the images also look blurry. Hope I’m not about to pull a Bette Davis in Dark Victory.

          • Bridget Smith

There’s some color splotchiness going on with her skin in the close-ups, too – it looks a bit like a finer grain of pixelation. Particularly noticeable in the shot of her legs. But the worst is probably how blurry the second photo is.

        • Nope, same here.

  • jw_ny

the quality commentary is what keeps us all coming back! 🙂

I love everything about the 1st look…fresh and youthful. The 2nd look did immediately remind me of Leelee, and I don’t love it for JLaw, although she does look very pretty (peed dress and all 😉 )

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

First look is interesting. Second look is pure Hollywood screen goddess. Attagirl.

  • PinkySlinky

All I see in the second photo is Annette Bening in the movie ‘American President’…but blond

  • sagecreek

    I love both these looks.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Did she cut her hair for a role? Because I really hate it.

  • Not applicable

why is the first dress so pixilated?

  • ashtangajunkie

I am beginning to like the hair. She has a great face for it and it looks good in both of these shots. It gets better with each appearance. Or it’s wearing me down. I actually enjoy both looks, but that random ode to a disco ball on the second one is WEIRD.

  • Trickytrisha

Somebody is picking really great shoes for Jen. Love the first pair. I’m hoping she grows out the short hair, but it looks really good in the first pics. Not too crazy about the swept back pompadour in the second, but that dress is stellar. And uncles? I see daffodils not pee! ;p

  • Alfie C

That is Proenza Schouler TO DIE FOR. The contractually obligated Dior is pretty. At least it doesn’t look like something they forced her in. It actually flatters her and makes her look like a movie star. That peed on herself-but still.

  • crash1212

She looks great in both, but I especially love the first look. I have to say, I went from very long hair to very short hair and it took me several weeks before I could style it satisfactorily. I know she has “people” for that, but still, getting the long-to-short right is a challenge.

  • I’m actually surprised by how…..versatile the hair has been. For not having much left anymore, she’s managed a surprising number of “styles” with it. Take that Anne Hathaway………

  • Mori Rene

i think what’s killing me inside rn with her is the lack of dramatic eye makeup. gurl, you’ve got blonde short hair, you can go DRAMA with your eyes!! jazz it up!!

  • DTLAFamilies

IIRC, Kristen Stewart also looks great in Proenza Schouler. The designer for starlets promoting their huge teen franchises.

  • lexilexi

I just caught a glimpse of her in Paris tonight at the premiere… WOWZA… those of you who don’t like side boob will cringe! But yet another makeup style and hairstyle.

  • 3boysful

She seems to have one of the best makeup artists around.

  • First dress is gaping too much on top, but it is nice enough looking. Second dress is pretty. And I’m glad you said Leelee S. because I’ve thought that a couple times here lately and I didn’t know if I was nutz.

    • tereliz

You LIT’RALLY said everything I wanted to say here. Love how sharp and slick dress 1 looks with her hair, but the bodice needs to fit better. Ever since she cut the hair I’ve been thinking Leelee, especially when it’s swept back like in look 2.

      • Well, good. Because I was confused by the correlation, to be honest, thinking that she doesn’t look much like her in the face, but it must be the hair. And maybe something about the way she carries herself?

  • Tricia

Perhaps it’s my penchant for short hair, but I think she looks bangin’ hot with that new cut, even if it does age her a bit. That first outfit is fantastic; I love the shoes!

  • birdwithonefeather

By far, she looked the best those two times she wore Calvin Klein to those Oscar-related events. And as a direction, Calvin Klein is closer to the way I see her as an actress – stripped down and striking. It is downright refreshing to see a young actress who brings so much to the table (the first Hunger Games movie would have been totally lost without her) but it’s odd to see her floundering around on the RC like she needs frilly, complicated fashion in order to be serious and style-marketable. I get the same thought when I see her spending so much time in the Hunger Games and X-men and I remember that this is the same girl who can carry films like Winter’s Bone and Silver Linings Playbook and make it all look like NOTHING. Can’t wait to see what she does when she gets out of these big blockbuster franchises.

  • nannypoo

Hah! I just knew this haircut would work if someone got the styling right. She looks adorable.

  • jspark

She would make a really pretty boy. How long before she takes on the edgy role where she cross dresses… I’m guessing a year maybe two.

  • Kelly

Finally something I like! I still don’t love the hair, but I don’t hate it here. I love the whole look of that last outfit, even with the pee-yellow color. In fact, I think I like the gown’s yellow better than I like the mustard of the first dress. Love the glam makeup, too (second dress). She’s someone who really needs a little facial color and definition.

  • cakecakecake

She needs a bra in the first outfit!

  • guest2visits

Maybe the shoes are too heavy for the first look. I like the hair, both pics.
I guess there’s good Dior and bad Dior these days; and this is definitely the good.

  • GillianHolroyd

Sorry, love the 2nd look, especially the hair. She’s giving real Tippi Hedren face here.

  • quiltrx

Love them both. See? The more classic-variety Diors work for her. They need to stop putting her in their ‘edgy’ stuff. It’s just not her.

  • DamH

FINALLY. The Dior red carpet look works for me. Though not an impeccable one, the hair looks too put together. Her portfolio in second Dior look is stunning. And the Proenza Schouler look is Carrie Mulligan’s wheelhouse.

  • unbornfawn

These are definite improvements. She is looking quite beautiful in the second look. Would have liked more dramatic earrings. But y’all kinda ruined it for me with the “the colors make it look like she peed herself” comment. Can’t unsee it.

  • MannahattaMamma

When did designers decided (whoa, alliteration time) that women should reveal a bit o’side boob and then the side of the ribcage/part of the body that is below the armpit but not the armpit? Cuz I’m thinking that it’s not particularly flattering for anyone.

  • d4divine

She looks great in both…bit so crazy about the color of look two, but she looks a hella more comfortable and relaxed in both looks than she usually does….I give extra points for that alone

    • gigi kennedy

agree! she looks fabulous and looks like she is enjoying herself. wish the second dress was a different color & it would have been killer

  • MaryMitch

I love her hair! It’s different, and it suits her.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

Both of these are much better than those we’ve seen previously on this pole dance. Atta girl!

  • Dagney

Is anyone else getting Ellen Barkin from the first look? Because I totally am. I consider this a good thing.

  • Tatiana Luján

I agree with everything you said.

  • xprocessed

You guys have very odd colored pee if that’s the case.

    • Honey, I hate to break it to you, but pale yellow is a common pee color.

  • jif

Nothing works for me with Look 1 – not the ill-fitted dress, no the hip-mum hair, not the shoes. Look 2 is lovely, though the random sparkle dot is a complete head-scratcher (and I live for sparkly things).

  • valerie747

I love both looks. The black dress is MIDNIGHT … The yellow dress is SUNSHINE …. No self-uninating anywhere.

  • Kent Roby

Dress 1: Killing it, in a Kill Bill sorta way, Love. Dress 2: I love Ms. Lawrence so much that I will simply pretend that the random sequin applique is meant to reference her Mockingjay pin. It’s Love x 2 for me.

  • twocee

Hate the pixie cut but seeing her in the second set makes me realize it’s really the bangs that are the problem. The bangs make her look about 12.
