Jennifer Lawrence Double Shot

Posted on November 14, 2013

Credit where it’s due, both of these looks are definite steps in the right direction after her first two Dior stumbles on the Catching Fire poledance.

Jennifer Lawrence attends the photocall of “The Hunger Games – Catching Fire” at the Villamagna Hotel in Madrid, Spain in an Alexander McQueen look paired with Jimmy Choo pumps, Monique Péan earrings, and an EF Collection ring.

We can’t complain about this one lacking color or personality, that’s for sure. But we tend to think one element here needed to be switched out; either the skirt or the shoes. Maybe even both. We like the shape and we love the top, but ultimately, everything below the waist looks like a bit much, visually.

The hair is still awful.

Jennifer Lawrence attends the premiere of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” in Madrid, Spain in a Christian Dior dress paired with Anthony Vaccarello sandals, a Rona Pfeiffer ring and Ana Khouri earrings.

Love the color and the shoes; hate the goofy hem. It seems odd to us that such focus-pulling shoes were chosen for this dress. We would have gone in the opposite direction: toned down the footwear and put some jewelry up around her face.

The hair is… oh, Jesus. The hair. It’s somewhere between Who-ville and the Emerald City here.

No to all of this. You’re breaking my heart, JLaw. :’(

    • JasmineAM

Also, I just CAN’T with that “Something About Mary Hair”.

      • SugarSnap108

That is ALL I can see in the second shot.

      • amf0001

that’s the first thing I thought!

      • MK03

        Now I can’t unsee it.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

I know – I didn’t see it till it was mentioned, and now that’s all I see.

  • Justine

The 2nd pic – that rinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I’m just looking up Rona Pfeiffer now!

  • CLoverleaf

    There’s something about Mary hair!

    • charlotte

The second one definitely! The first one reminds me of Peter Pan.

  • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

I like the hair in the second shot, because it looks less plastered down, which I think doesn’t help. By “like the color” I’m confused, though. Is that dress blue with black sheerness? Or unmatching blacks? Whatevs, I don’t care for it. Fits good on top, looks janky on bottom. Top look: Like outfit, hate shoes.

    • formerlyAnon

2nd hair is FAR better, IMO. If still not that great.

  • sarajgh

I would love to see that second Dior dress on someone else, because I think it’s lovely. It just doesn’t suit JLaw and her posing kills me.

  • Amanda Welliver

How on earth can that poor Dior hem survive even 10 steps in those shoes?

    • gabbilevy

She only had to take six steps from the limo to the RC.

      • ampg

        Nice.

  • ashtangajunkie

I actually think the hair is better here than in the last 2 looks. I like the first outfit a lot – funny that it’s the first outfit of hers I’ve liked in the Catching Fire tour and it’s the only non-Dior.

  • gabbilevy

If Jen wants to switch out those first shoes for something, I’ll gladly take them off her hands (or, feet, as it were).

  • LeelaST

I wish the first look was a dress. Even though it’s sporty that bare midriff is just unnecessary. Hate the shoes. Don’t like anything about the second look.

  • Introspective

that hair is killing me. it feels like the haircut that one gets when looking for a “trendy” style. it feels so affected and out of step with the cornfed, down home aesthetic her handlers have been pushing from the beginning.

j.law time to regroup girl. figure out how to style this in a way that doesnt grate, until it grows out to a length that gives you more variety. good luck with the poledance as you wait that out…

    • Erica_Vuitton

I don’t think this Kate Gosslin circa 2008 cut should be called trendy!

      • Introspective

agree. i may have been unclear, but that’s why i put “trendy” in quotes. cause the attempt to be trendy always results in looking anything but…

      • marlie

See, I LOATHED that hairstyle when Kate was sporting it, and this looks nothing at all like that to me.

        • AnguaVonUberwald

Yeah, I really don’t think this haircut looks anything like that, other than being blonde and short.

  • WildHyacinth2

My first inclination is always to stick up for a young actress who cuts her hair short bc they always get such grief for going short but the hair at it’s current length isn’t great. Go full on pixie or grow it out asap is my opinion. I don’t mind the McQueen bc it makes her look like the 23 yr old she is. I guess that’s my big complaint with the hair and some of the dresses she’s worn, they’re making her look less young and fun which is sort of her “thing”.

  • filmcricket

LOVE the hair in the 2nd group, think that’s the way she needs to be going. The first look needs a better bra. Both need bigger, shinier earrings.

    • conniemd

I’m glad somebody else noticed how the first look mistreated her girls. Definitely needed some lift to her bra.

    • mlle

That haircut in general requires earrings that are at least two of the three: big/interesting/shiny.

  • Catiline

The combined effect of the dress and hair in the first look makes me think flight attendant.

The second look is kind of badass and I love her face in the close-ups. Although I must admit that I, too, thought of There’s Something About Mary thanks to her hair.

    • vitaminC

Me too! “Is that hair gel?” *glorp*

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Who woulda thought it would be so hard to style short hair??? That being said, I like the first look quite a bit. I even like the view of the hair in the second photo which is from the side.

    • 3boysful

I like it in the first pic, too. She reminds me of Ellen Barkin with her hair short.

The way it’s styled in the second shot is, as many have noted, too Something About Mary. And too contrived.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Why no love for the pixie? In both, they are is gorgeous. 75% of the reason I went for a pixie cut is so I could do strange, beautiful things to the shape of my head. Brava, La Law.

    • Alloy Jane

I love a good pixie. This is not a good pixie. Everything about the hair and the Dior seems contrived in a way that is more contrived than other styled starlets. Obviously I don’t know her, but I feel like she’s going against her personality with this look. There’s something about all this that feels unnatural. Plenty of starlets chop their hair off and you can tell they love it. JLaw does not seem like one of those gals.

  • lexilexi

I’m in the minority. I really think the hairdo is fun!

    • http://surelysonsy.blogspot.com/ Jessica | Surely Sonsy

      i’m with you!

    • housefulofboys

I like it too although it’s not quite as cute as my pixie cut. Ha. I’m also in my 50′s, so there’s that…

    • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

It makes me think she looks like Ellen Barkin. A good thing, though JLaw is so much younger.

    • AnguaVonUberwald

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I think she looks adorable. I don’t understand all the vitriol, really.

  • vickilu

At the rate she’s going, will there be ANY Dior left for her to wear this year?

I love the first look, I think the shoes with the skirt make it more exciting.

    • demidaemon

That may be a very positive thing for her–use up all the Dior now so she can move on to better stuff, like that McQueen above.

  • SugarSnap108

I like the first look, and the shoes in combo with the outfit don’t bother me — maybe because I WANT THEM. I don’t like anything about the second look other than her face.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

I thought the same thing about the first look! Love inspired by lust.

  • amanda siegelson

the second set of pictures is the first time i’ve liked that hair on jennifer. too bad it’s paired with a mullet dress. love the shoes, tho.

  • http://surelysonsy.blogspot.com/ Jessica | Surely Sonsy

i actually really like the messy hair look. it solves the otherwise aging soccer mom problem of the cut, and it’s got loads of spunk. i think it suits her. ETA: and the first outfit is killa, just as is.

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

      Heh. Loads of spunk.

  • Rzldzl122

The Catching Fire look, is what its about her hair and the skirt look a bit like swirling flames.

  • Ginger

I don’t think the haircut is bad, per se, but something like that goes with a sexy persona, not a super-sweet face like she has.

I’d rather pick leftover lunch out of my teeth than talk about the outfits…they’re so borrrring.

  • Trickytrisha

I’m adoring both pairs of shoes here, just maybe not with the outfits she’s wearing. About that hair… I suspect she’s regretting the impulse to go short by now. The cut isn’t especially flattering for her face shape and it’s gonna be a bitch to come up with new styles for it all the time. Lots of female celebs have gone short lately, some to their detriment, IMO. Hathaway, Hudson, Aniston (not that she’ll let us see the new hair), Theron have had varying success with their cropped locks.

  • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Man, that title is aces in Spanish: Los Juegos de Hambre, EN LLAMAS! Go ahead, try it with your best Antonio Banderas accent.

I get Hilary Clinton’s hair on Hilary Clinton. I do not get it on Jennifer Lawrence. Is there a biopic coming out?

  • NDC_IPCentral

The horizontal ice picks on those shoes are going to snag that sheer fabric like an eager kitten’s claws. Those shoes were an optimistic (or willfully unrealistic) choice on the stylist’s part…..

    • formerlyAnon

You with your deadly common sense!

  • tintashoopa

Love the polka dot shoes with the stripes on the dress.
I even, kinda like the wild hair, although you’re right about the Whoville/Emerald city reference. I just think it is different, playful and young while at the same time being very glamourous.

  • sagecreek

I don’t hate the hair as much as everyone else does. At least she’s willing to shake things up. (Hello, Ms. Swift. Paying attention?)

  • conniemd

Those 2nd shoes are lethal weapons. Anyone clumsy like myself would be catching them as I walked by furniture or people, because they extend beyond the shoe width.

  • Akemi

As a woman with very short hair, I am always happy to see famous ladies buck the trend of long-ass, willowy hair, and rock a short ‘do. Which is why I want to like this cut soooo much, but I think she needs to take more off the top/front. If you’re gonna go short, go all the way! :)

    • In_Stitches

Yeah, she kind of cut it to the awkward stage, where the cool, short hair cut is only sort of grown out.

      • Akemi

        Yes, this exactly!

    • MilaXX

I think she could look cute with short hair, but I agree, this isn’t quite right. It feels more like the growing out phase of a short cut. It needs to be tapered in or layered or something.

  • frannyprof

I like her hair! Am I the only one?!

    • Tatiana Luján

I like the haircut, not the hair color.

    • charlotte

I’d like it on someone else.

  • mjude

did she cut her hair for a role or did she do it for an FU? I think she looks good & I think she doesn’t worry to much about it.

    • Erica_Vuitton

Apparently due to dying it brown for Katniss and then back to her normal blonde has fried out her hair and she had to cut it. Which makes me angry Katniss will be… doing what she does in the last 2 movies in a wig!! Ugh AWFUL!

  • Tatiana Luján

The haircut would look a lot better if it wasn’t bleached to that terrible yellow.

  • Shawn EH

Love the sweater set; now if only the full-length dress wasn’t see through.

  • Tatiana Luján

The veil of the second dress makes me think about smoke and that only makes sense for this event.

  • MilaXX

First look – I like the color, but the skirt needs to go up a size and the shoes don’t go.
Second look – I like the hair, dislike the sheer part of the dress. The whole thing needs a pass with the steam iron.

Overall I think the haircut is wrong. It’s like someone didn’t want to commit and instead gave her growing out hair.

  • kimmeister

I think the skirt in the first look belongs on a woman with no hips. On Jennifer, it is giving the illusion of saddlebags.

  • NMMagpie

I love JLaw, even through all the tragic styling. However, the deodorant marks in the first look are dang near unforgivable. Bummer.

  • Erica_Vuitton

Seems like she’s allowed to wear other designers for photo calls or lesser events but all the premieres she’s in Dior. Interesting that at most premieres she looks terrible! The spikes on the shoes so close to sheer flowey panels… its is just asking for one wrong step and a fall.

    • marlie

So true. The McQueen is definitely the winner out of these two. It just suits her so much better.

  • BrooklynBomber

Her face looks stunning, and I love the short hair. The top in the first picture seems suited to her.

  • Lori

I like the first look, but I agree with MilaXX that the skirt needed to go up a size and the shoes don’t go. I like her hair there better than I’ve liked some of the other styling she’s done with this cut.

The hem & the hair of the 2nd look are both so ridiculous that they’re blinding me to the rest of it and I can’t form an overall opinion.

  • Danielle

    Flock of seagulls hair.

  • Rand Ortega

I don’t care for either look. They’re both so… generic. They’re not special in any way. Dior used to mean refinement, uniqueness. This just looks like any old sportswear you can buy at Nordstrom or even Macys. Heaven knows I’m a huge JLaw fan, but these outfits are way below her pay grade. The shoes pass. The windswept hair is a definite out.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Honestly, a curse on whoever decided on that hair for her. And whoever’s doing her makeup now isn’t remotely doing her justice. I totally do not understand who decided to mess with a good thing.

  • jorinde

i love the hair. in both shots…

  • Sunraya

No don’t like any of it. That dior is not her dress

  • nannypoo

I think there’s hope for the hair. She’s just not there yet. It seems to be overstyled somehow. She has a great face for it, and she has a tomboyish quality that this haircut should suit really well, but so far it’s not working. I like her makeup, especially in the second outfit. Oh, and I hate everything she’s been wearing lately. She deserves better clothes.

  • Kelly

These are *improvements*? Yikes. That first outfit is downright painful. It makes her look like she got caught in the rain and her clothes shrunk. The cap sleeves give her linebacker shoulders, the skirt pulls, and the whole thing just looks uncomfortable and totally ill-fitting. Girl, that’s not your size!

The hair just makes me sad. That length, no matter how it’s styled, makes her face look too round and completely un-distinctive.

    • golden_valley

Can’t stand that skirt. It just looks too tight. Not her fault, just the way the skirt is cut.

  • marlie

I love her first outfit – everything looks good there to me.

Her second outfit… The dress is a fail. I hate that weird transition to the sheer part. And I LOVE those shoes, but I’d worry about them accidentally ripping the dress. And her makeup looks great.

  • Imasewsure

Yes quibbles for both looks. Love the shoes in the first outfit though and I hate white shoes… she still doesn’t know what to do with her hair and makeup but seriously her people should…

  • StephanieLovesTLo

Love the second dress but agree the shoes are challenging because they would likely tear the hemline. First look is cute though am not crazy about white shoes, but luv huh so can’t complain too much.

  • saintebeuve

The print on the first outfit is supposed to mimic a magazine of bullets, right? Especially with how it’s draped around the shoulders. That seems… well, tacky is one word for it. And it’s not a word I associate with JLaw. (Though, to be fair, I tend to find all gun-related clothing/prints/accessories in poor taste.)

    • somebody blonde

I think it’s abstract enough that it doesn’t have to be taken that way. I thought of a line of pencils, personally.

      • saintebeuve

Fair enough! I like that more. Now I’m imagining rows and rows of Crayola.

  • Lesley

i’m so distracted by the hair i can’t even focus on the fashion

  • bertkeeter

Whoe ever the queen is that’s dressing her she needs to fire his tacky ass! Like NOW!

  • CarrieBaby

Pixie cuts are cute but they’re not for everyone. This press tour has proved Dior and Jennifer Lawrence don’t fit well together. I’m really trying hard to like it b/c Jennifer is the best but its just all wrong :(

  • Jecca2244

im going to say it. the hair is ruining some of these looks. Shes needs extensions asap. This hair cut goes soccer mom on her.

  • guest2visits

I’m ok with the haircut, it was gorgeous on tv today. I like both looks, but the diagonal hem just about ruins the second.

  • formerlyAnon

    Shoes for the win.
She’s absolutely lovely in a healthy, athletic American girl way and can get away with the rest of the schmatta.

  • quiltrx

The blonde hair just washes all the color and shape out of her face. I think I might like the cut a lot more if her hair were still brown.
And is there some Dior rule that Marion gets all the cute stuff and Jennifer gets the oddballs? Can we get this girl in some New Look kind of stuff?

  • mila_8

RPatz called, wants his 2008 hair back.

  • MannahattaMamma

Both of these outfits make my feet scream out in painful empathy

  • Levedi

I love the second look, all of it. Love, love, love it. It looks dramatic, like it’s moving.

  • fursa_saida

Her eyebrows are killing me. They need to be longer AND thicker. I’m not saying a lot thicker; she doesn’t need to go Lily Collins here, but they’re just…too small, in every dimension. For all I know, they are naturally very narrow (though I sort of doubt they’re that…short?), but let’s not pretend like Hollywood can’t work up some fakery.

  • Dawn Sinclair

::whispers:: I quite like her hair ::wanders off in shame::

    • KirFla

Are other ladies the only ones who like this hair?

      • MaggieMae

I adore sassy short hair on women, yet I don’t think this is her cut. It doesn’t suit her somehow.

        • golden_valley

I think the cut is ok. There are many ways to style it and these pictures show 2 of the wrong ways. I saw her in an interview on tv and the hair looked great, it framed her face and served to bring out her eyes.

  • BayTampaBay

Is it just me or does anyone else thinks she looks like a young Ellen Barkin in these pictures?

    • MaggieMae

      I can see it!

    • charlotte

Thank you! I was just about to say the same thing, but could not remember Ellen Barkin’s name.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

The first one is much better. Could be that McQueen is a better match for her than Dior!

  • Diego!

mmmm I like the first outfit but not for a red carpet event… I LOVED the second one including her hair like that!! I’m bored with the pixie haircut, so styled like that it’s a plus!

  • Tamara Hogan

Not much of a fan of either dress, but the shoes are awesome, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE her hair. (So there.)

  • MaggieMae

I don’t know. Something looks off in a lot of her RC looks. Is it because she has that tomboy vibe? Does she need a look that is edgier? She often looks like she got all dressed up, but can’t WAIT to get out of that dress and into a pair of jeans. What do you think?

  • Ginny Ellsworth

So that’s where my knitting needles went to!

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

so you see…TLo complained about her hair, so she went and did THAT! the shoes are the only thing saving the first dress. otherwise, it’s too sporty and looks like high school colors you’d wear to a football game. the shoes give it class. the second look is like a cheap witch costume somehow. something about the texture of that chiffon. did anyone notice how that hair gives her devil horns in her shadow?

  • HeatherMcIlrath

does anyone know why she cut the hair? is that for a part? am i just that out of the loop?

    • demidaemon

I think someone mentioned upthread that it was basically for hair health.

      • NinjaCate

Yea, I think I read somewhere that the director said the dyeing back and forth basically fried it to pieces, so she chopped it all off.

  • bellafigura1

I love the hair!! She’s a kid! She’s having some fun!

  • Michelle Gennari

She looks great!! And love, love, love the hair!!

  • E. D.

Hate the hem on the second dress, but I like the hair. Not sure why, but at least it’s more interesting than straightish and blonde.
