    Bitch. Don’t. Age.

    • mshesterp

I definitely think she’s more beautiful now than when she was on The X-Files. She’s just gorgeous.

      • tereliz

She has never looked better than she does now.

  • I’ll forgive her the flashbulb weirdness because IRL that isn’t a problem. She’s so lovely. And I think for a shortish lady she’s really pulling that dress off!

  • Emily Dagger

There’s not a thing I don’t love about this except the occasional angle that suggests white undergarments.

  • Hmmmmm….I’m…..grateful for the fact that it is lined? But unhappy about how cheap the black material looks? Pretty much I hate it, but I’m striving to be generous so…..her face is lovely!

    • mshesterp

I see what the designer was going for, and I like it in theory (I think it works on the model, and a model is as close to fashion theory as possible), but the lining isn’t working right in reality.

  • rissa42210

    The lining is not working.

    • conniemd

Exactly. Why have a beige lining for a black dress – to show off the sheer and the pattern in the sheer? It looks awkward that you can see the pattern of the lining under the dress.

  • Danielle

Sigh. Now I want to see if the X-Files is on Netflix.

    • E. D.

All seasons (even crappy S8-9) are on Netflix. I binge watched the whole thing around the time of the 20th anniversary of the premiere in September.

      • H2olovngrl

Finished a complete rewatch last year. I miss my Mulder and Scully so much…

  • charlotte

And you guys said they were done with funereal. I guess not. She looks like Miranda Priestly at her rival’s funeral.

  • hughman

At least she covered her Area 51.

    • filmcricket

      All the applause.

    • 3boysful

Do you have a book for these things?!? I bow down.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Hate that the lining is wrinkled and it shows through the dress.

  • Random Compliments

    Undergarments Fiasco. WTF.

    • Tracy M

I suspect it’s a bright flashbulb issue more than an undergarment issue, but yes, probably needed to be considered in choosing this dress. She still looks stunning.

  • Nicole Walraven

love the drama but the lining is not working out. i almost think a black bra would have worked better. serious boob distraction happening.

  • Love her hair, Love her earrings & bracelets, Love her eye makeup, but HATE that for whatever reason–lights, lining, angle?–it looks like she’s wearing white undies & bra. Maybe that means the dress is too tight, especially in the bodice? I don’t know, but it doesn’t look like the big bucks it must cost.

  • Kathy

The undergarments she’s wearing are making this look like an entry in a wet evening gown contest.

  • schadenfreudelicious

If you have not watched her in The Fall you should, also.. Jamie Dornan 🙂

    • charlotte

She was also in ‘Mr. Morgan’s Last Love’- not quite a multidimensional character, but the movie is amazing.

    • ConnieBV

Isn’t he the one they picked to be Christian Grey?

      • Zirza

      • schadenfreudelicious

Yes, he plays an extremely handsome serial killer. He is excellent in the role and highly disturbing.

  • Richard

Her hair is not as polished as it could be, the undergarments were a huge mistake, and I think the t-shirt sleeves take away some of the drama from the dress. I’m disappointed because this could of been stunning.Gillian Anderson is just beautiful, and she deserves a more polished look.

  • Lauren Dorsee Dillon

From the neck up, she is gorgeous and the dress itself is lovely, particularly the skirt. But WTF with the slip or lining or whatever she has under the gown? It’s beyond fugly.

  • sagecreek

Gillian, honey, I’m pretty sure you can afford a black bra.

    • It’s a nude lining sewn into the dress. Just showing from unfortunate flashbulbiness. Sad that celebs are subject to that kind of situation, really. Narrows their viable choices.

      • sagecreek

Fair enough, but pros should just know about this kind of thing.

        • Oh yeah, I agree. Could’ve been fixed by a black lining, easily enough.

  • Shawn EH

I dunno if she has the hauteur for this dress, really. It’s in the direction of her 19th Century vibe, but not quite there.

  • jonesybj_notreally

is there a dose of crazy-eye happening here? shades of debra messing…

    • AnneElliot

It looks like she’s just noticed something crawling on her shoulder. . . maybe hiding in that giant clump of ruffles?

    • H2olovngrl

With a little bit of Sharon Stone nut-face thrown in for good measure.

  • Miss WKS

yeah….I remember those days….nursing my baby on the go…those nursing pads saved my ass on more than one occasion….

  • Ruffles have ridges. Not Gillians.

  • Mazenderan

Gillian Anderson can look totally amazing – this dress is awful.

  • jw_ny

Love the retro 20’s feel of the dress in the pic with the model. That feeling is all lost with Gillian wearing it…just a heavy, over-embellished, dull black gown on her.

  • Imasewsure

She looks like a beautiful version of an awkward best friend who got dragged to a celebrity event as a wing man. And that dress is Miss Kitty awful

  • Trickytrisha

Whatever is going on beneath that sheer black fabric needs to just stop, right now – which is too late, because this disaster cannot be unseen. Her face looks lovely when she’s not smirking. Her right hand looks like she just clobbered someone on the jaw. And FFS, is that a cream colored bra strap hanging off her shoulder?

  • MilaXX

All I see is one headlight boob. This may have been pretty in person, but needed to be lined in black instead of white for the red carpet.

  • ThaliaMenninger

  • elirt

It does *not* photograph well. 🙁 I bet it’s lovely in person, but the flash brings out all of the unevenness.

  • belfebe

I’m not sure I like the dress, but her hair and makeup are terrific. Bitch don’t age either.

  • Diego!

I hate her undergarment. It’s killing such a great look on her and that amazing dress. But hair and make up are flawless!

  • As other commenters have noted, it’s a pretty dress that doesn’t stand up to flash photography.

  • ewes_urn_aim

    Mae West’s nightgown.

  • madscntst

Oh sweetie, we need to work on your smile. You want it to say, “I’m a beautiful, confident woman” not “Oh, crap, can anyone smell that? It wasn’t me!”

    • twigg

      she looks so uncomfortable.

  • Terri Terri

She looks so pretty !! She is pulling off the dark eyeliner better than Miss SJP.

  • willworktomorrow

Terrible dress, but she’s lovely. Is it me or are her facial expressions making her look like Emma Thompson?

  • Madam Von Sassypants

Flash test. Always, always, flash test.

  • amaranth16

I wish she’d wear something other than black.

  • marlie

All that flash photography does NOTHING for that dress. I *think* it’s pretty, but it looks too sheer. And I really like the asymmetrical collar and the feathers on the skirt. Maybe the shoulder feather tumor should have been a little smaller.

  • TLJezebel

    When did she get boobs?

    • Fannie Wolston

surely you remember agent scully in her muted rib knit turtlenecks?

      • TLJezebel

I confess, I never watched the show. I just remember some of her more deflated
        red carpet outings.

        • H2olovngrl

WHAAAATTTTTT??????!!!!!! That is crazy talk. Go to netflix now. They are waiting for you.

  • MandyM

I see London; I see France. I see her lack of underpants.

Seriously though, I hope that monstrosity looked better in person. It is a nice shape on her but that lining is terrible.

  • LaSylphide

Hair and makeup are good. Less said about the dress, the better. Agree it might have looked better in person.

  • Tashina Savage

She looks pretty scared of whatever it is that landed on her shoulder.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I LOVE it! It’s very “Ginger Rogers in Black”, isn’t it? She looks amazing. And she doesn’t age, which I approve of!

  • carnush

This is an example of Christina Hendricks syndrome. A fussy, frilly, unflattering dress when a simple streamlined one (in a COLOR) is called for.

  • quiltrx

I really love the *idea* of the dress, but the execution seems to make it really tough to wear. I mean, we can see the model’s bellybutton–what did we expect from Gillian?
And she looks uncomfortable, poor dear.

  • You would think something labeled couture would be able to add a lining without such tragic results. When I prefer the sheer runway version something is really wrong.

  • ConnieBV

  • Mary Lauer

Is the nude color underneath (showing due to flashbulbs!) her undergarments, or the designer’s chosen lining? I am thinking the latter … I would have lined in another layer of black, but totally different look would result, I guess …

  • crash1212

That lining is ruining the dress. Of course, I don’t like the dress much in any event. This is a big miss for me – from the hair, which is to fly-away for this formal dress, to the blah make-up (needed a stronger lip), to the nothing clutch. Try again.

  • aahlife

In every photograph she is giving sidelong glances. No direct gazes. It makes her look not so confident.

  • prettybigkitty

She has Debra Messing’s crazy eyes in these photos.

  • jspark

Is she morphing into Kate Winslet?

  • bertkeeter

They killed a rooster to make this!

  • LeelaST

What’s going on under the sheer top layer? 🙁

  • guest2visits

A very pretty Gillian under a very difficult dress. Why is the lining white? And it looks half Victorian half Dynasty.

  • paintedfish

that woman is a goddess, even if she needs a better slip.

  • demidaemon

Why does every look like they went off their meds at this event? I’m not even talking about the dress, which has problematic details in of itself.
