Cate Blanchett covers the November 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar China magazine in Céline photographed by Koray Birand and styled by Xiaomu Fan.

FACE.

And CHEEKBONES.

Gorgeous. That gal can work a beige. Nice to see her back in form. It’s been a while.

First thing I thought when I saw this was CHEEKBONES, even before I read it. Magnificent.

      • GorgeousThings

        Love that ring, too.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Praise the heavens!

      • cakecakecake

        Praise the contouring!

    • Carrie

I love her so much. This is the fierce that others wish they could acheive!

      • http://melaniesuzanne.blogspot.com/ Melanie Suzanne

No kidding. As a mere mortal, when I look at a camera like that it’s all crazy eyes and double chin.

    • Judy_S

I don’t like it. She looks like a vampire or something in that first picture. An undernourished vampire. Give blood!

      • Yulie29

She looks like Chloe Sevigny pretending to be Cate Blanchett in that one. I like the second cover, though.

      • AnguaVonUberwald

I thought she looked like Kirsten Dunst. In fact, I thought she was Kirsten Dunst when I glanced at the thumbnail.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Oh, Uncles… our Pretty for The Day – you remembered! Thank you!

    • marlie

FOR REAL. Cate’s cheekbones and jawline could cut glass. She looks stunning.

      • Rhonda Shore

It’s her eyes too…i always think of her amazing performance in “Elizabeth.”

        • Ramon Figueroa

And her performance in “The Golden Age” (plus that shot of Clive Owen on the ship) saved that movie for me. And that final speech: “I am called the Virgin Queen. Unmarried, I have no master. Childless, I am mother to my people. God give me strength to bear this mighty freedom. I am your Queen. I am myself.” Heaven!!!

    • Jessica Freeman

The first cover shot is a definite No for me, Uncles. Something is a touch scary about that one.

    • Tatiana Luján

Her cheekbones are gorgeous enough without that awful countouring.

    • DTLAFamilies

Cheek contouring ruins it for me. It looks like makeup you’d see in a Cover Girl ad circa 1975.

    • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

I like that dress. I didn’t know it was supposed to snow today where I am so I wore my new corduroy mini and boots. Which is not bad, but not a wool shruggy-dress either. While I’m at it, I’ll take Cate’s figure, thanx.

    • hughman

Super Secret Message to “Project Runway All-Star” Watchers : Is the shrug around the shoulders made of neoprene? How can she reach for a drink at a cocktail party?

      • kimmeister

Cocktails cower before her, and are intimidated into evaporating themselves so that she can just absorb them through her pores.

      • zenobar

I saw her and I just thought, “SCORPION.”

        • demidaemon

Hahahahahahahaha! Oh, Jeffrey, too bad you didn’t have Cate here to model your monstrosity.

    • Danielle

      BOWING DOWN

    • Emily Smith

Can we discuss her in the special features of the extended edition of the hobbit? We got a close up of her grey gown that she wore in her reveal scene and holy cow that was a gorgeous costume. Also I had no idea they had her in gigantic platform wedges most of the time.

      • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

Oh, I haven’t looked at that yet. I will have to as soon as I get home. I knew it was a Gown For The Ages, but I wouldn’t have guessed about the platforms.

        • Emily Smith

The first thing we did when it arrived in the mail thursday was start watching all the special features. They spent a lot more time talking about working with the actors and casting this time which I found really interesting, my husband not as much. But yeah she had big huge honking platforms on they had to of given her no less than like 5 inches. I guess she isn’t quite tall enough in real life to be an elf.

      • Nicola Anna Molly Page

Ha, I just commented on the same! should have read below! Wasn’t she amazing?

        • Emily Smith

Yes! Also those brits sure love their ugg boots don’t they? Every brit actor had them on in their downtime it was actually quite funny.

    • Clueless_Jock

Cate can certainly wear clothes but why does she only have one facial expression for fashion editorials?

    • alyce1213

She’s giving face, alright, but I’m not sure whose. The first cover barely resembles Cate. The makeup contouring is doing her beautiful face no favors — she doesn’t need her cheekbones artificially and obviously exaggerated, thank you. The second cover is a bit better. She’s done much better spreads.

    • MilaXX

I like the middle shot, but the whole shoot looks a little robotic. It’s thisclose to not working. Still have to admit, she looks better than the model. I’m just not sure if it’s Cate or photoshop we should be giving credit.

    • Froggae

The lighting and her makeup in the first cover photo makes her appear to be dying of consumption. What fool is trying to turn the Queen of Awesome into a Dickensian orphan???!!!

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Can we talk about that ring? I want that to be given to me by a foreign lover!

      • decormaven

It is indeed gorgeous. I’m not picky about who gives it- just wrap it up and send it my way.

    • NMMagpie

      Stunning. Just stunning.

    • Nicola Anna Molly Page

I’m currently watching the special features of the Hobbit, the part where she and Ian McKellan are discussing their scene (and how they approached it as a play scene rather than a movie scene). There’s also a part where she’s discussing how she wore platform wedges during her scenes (‘if Kim Kardashian can do it, why can’t Galadriel’) to give her height and perfect her walk. She was so lovely, passionate about getting to the truth of her scene, funny and gorgeous.

I literally shouted, in an empty house no less, ‘CATE Y U SO PERFECT!’

      I have no shame.

    • filmcricket

They’ve done her up to look like a cyborg in a Snuggie, and she’s pulling it off because there’s just a hint behind her eyes that she realizes the absurdity, too.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

She gives great HANDS too. Like, so good that if she doesn’t get the Oscar for Blue Jasmine, there’s always Palmolive.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I would look like sad in a towel. She is exquisite.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      Kardashian Kontouring.

    • Not applicable

she is the only person who can drape herself a microfiber throw from Target and serve it up.

I, on the other hand, would look like a slob in a bath towel.

    • Imasewsure

I like the contouring of the cheeks and the artificial look. It’s interesting and it offsets the beigeness of the look. Plus it just works for me because of the way she is burning up the camera… love it

    • kt

She is my everything. And shot #2? “All shall love me and despair” Galadriel

    • crash1212

      Great face. Great dress.

    • Trickytrisha

Some nice Chinese person got a little too happy with photoshop, or maybe contouring, or both in the cheek area, but Cate is glorious here. She’s flat out mesmerizing.

    • amanda siegelson

funny – i hate everything about these photos except for the ring.

    • Violentcello

That dress might be made out of muppet skin, but the shape is fantastic.

    • Terri Terri

Ding dang! I’m not cutting in front of her at Safeway…

    • andi56

That first photo is one of the worst photoshopping jobs I have seen in a long time. Well, since yesterday.

      • quiltrx

I was thinking the same thing. They’ve made her look so much less beautiful than she is.

        • andi56

They just can’t help themselves, which is pretty terrible. I liked magazines before photoshopping; now I’m suspicious of everyone!

    • tinyredlocks

Before I even scrolled down to your comment beneath the 1st pic, I said. “CHEEKBONES! FACE!” You two have trained me well… :-)

    • joything

Her Oscar campaign has begun! (My assumption – it’s about that time of year.) “Blue Jasmine” would not have worked with any other actress. Sublime and horrifying.

    • GTrain

      Love love love it.

    • julnyes

The magazine title cuts into her head weirdly, but otherwise J’ADORE!

    • allcapsERINN

      Stunning.

    • Jacob Bowen

Ladies & Gentleman, Miss Cate Blanchett is proud to present…Bad contouring and/or awful photoshop! Those cheekbones make her look sickly.

    • paginatrix

I have a face! Why can’t I look like that in pictures!

    • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

I love and admire her. But the first shot is too much – all I can see is contouring, not FACE. The second one is gorgeous though.
