Connie Britton in Georges Hobeika at the 2013 CMA Awards

Posted on November 07, 2013

The dress is mostly acceptable, but the head needs rethinking.

Connie Britton attends the 2013 CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee in a Georges Hobeika dress paired with a diamond cocktail ring, three row diamond bracelet and diamond stud earrings with diamond border by Jay Carlile & Co. jewelry.

Georges Hobeika Signature Spring 2013 Collection

We hate the sequined collar and we think the bust is slightly off, but for the most part, the dress plays to her strengths and she looks polished and glamorous. From the neck down, that is. That is a decidedly unglamorous hair and makeup job. Her lips are too pale, her eyes are too harsh, and her hair looks a mess. It’s like she hired Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair and makeup artist and he only knows how to do one head. We’re afraid this is our very first “Girl, That’s Not Your Head” post.

  • I’d love this strapless, without the chiffon, cap sleeves and silly collar.

    • jonesybj_notreally

yep, bring back the belt and say bye to that neckline/sleeve treatment. and I’d add “put your hair up” but the venue… yikes – it’s a Sex and the Country hair-makeup job.

      • mmebam

I still say put your hair up. A bouffant would work fine here.

      • Yes, bring back the belt but the bow can stay gone.

    • decormaven

Agreed. The way the dress is configured now, it looks like she’s stuffed into the bodice. With the offending elements removed, I don’t think it would appear quite as busty.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

you read my mind. I don’t see that those elements add anything to this dress.
And yes, a more polished hairstyle would help.

    • Call me Bee

Hi Kiltd! I’ agree about the chiffon and the collar, but I’m partial to a little cap sleeve like this. And her hair needs a lot of help.

  • imperfectlaura

Mrs. Coach?!?! The hair and makeup just sadden me.

  • Janet B

My first, second, and third reaction: No, no, no, no, no.
I don’t like any of it, head to toe.

  • Sobaika

Ooooh, so close. The shape is lovely on her but the stupid collar and ridiculous eye makeup are making my eyes twitch.

  • Karen Belgrad

It looks like she forgot to cover her strapless bra…. Would we call this FrankenBoobDress?

    • conniemd

If the sleeve and neck treatments were eliminated and the bodice made of the same sparkly material, it wouldn’t look like a bra at all. Designers seem to have this fetish to make bodices that look like undergarments.

  • Tatiana Luján

    That collar is ridiculous!

  • TheAutisticStepmom

I don’t like any of this, either. She needs the belt. That dress looks SLAMMIN on the model.

    • I can’t decide if the belt would give her some curve, or make her look thick. This dress (with belt) is going to be best on a gal with a small waist. I’m not loving it on Connie, it isn’t really highlighting anything other than her rack.

      • Constant Reader

I agree. She has a lovely figure but this dress isn’t doing it any favors.

    • gabbilevy

I’m pretty sure that model is either a) standing on a box or b) not entirely human. Those some loooooong legs.

      • I think the model is also wearing some very controlling corsetry.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I don’t like any of it! But I do love the idea of a “GTNYH” post! One of the BKs said that about someone last year, and I laughed until I thought I was gonna bust a lung!

  • Shannon Beamer

Would it be out of turn of me to request that we start from scratch here? I want better for Tami/Rayna.

  • filmcricket

That bodice is utterly wretched. Agreed on the make-up, disagreed on the hair, I think it looks amazing and it’s the CMAs, so big and unruly is acceptable.

  • kt

Tami Taylor hair, always and forever. That dress would be vastly improved with the removal of the collar and chiffon, she needs the cap sleeves to the add curve to the lines of the dress. Amusingly, women with those outstanding slim hipped full chested bodies can occasionally look blocky in a strapless number. Must be god’s way of leveling the playing field.

  • mmebam

    Missed opportunity for a bouffant…

  • 3boysful

Is it my jealousy, or does that model have an impossibly small waist?

  • KateMaryC

I wish the bodice was sequin as well.

  • If you scroll up fast to check some details, there is a point where the skirt in one picture is hovering over her head in the next and it looks like a very fancy witches hat. And it works. Isn’t it time for a red-headed Samantha Stephens?

  • Funkykatt

I hate the whole thing, looks like a poor Morticia Adams.

  • Jessica Freeman

I really dislike the bust looking like an exposed strapless bra. That kinda kills it for me.

  • marlie

This dress is great on Connie, but I agree that the hair and makeup – the makeup especially – are all wrong. Her hair is fine, but it doesn’t “go” with the dress.

  • Tracy_Flick

It doesn’t look good on SJP either.

  • Shawn EH

I say Attagirl for the dress, though! She’s got a waist and looks much younger than in some of her fussy contraptions. Don’t know if we’re going to get her to change the hair. The bling is also nice.

  • Imasewsure

That is Jennifer Lawrence’s dress. Don’t love it on Connie and definitely not loving the head

  • ConnieBV

    Ponytail. Just a ponytail.

  • MilaXX

She’s too busty for this. I’s like the dress if that boob bib wasn’t there and she kept the belt. I suspect the boobs din’t work with the belt because of the bib detail, but she needs the belt because she can look a little thick wasted. Pin that hair up and warm up the lip. I don’t mind the eye makeup so much because she has larger eyes than SJP so she doesn’t look like she’s squinting all the time.

    • Not applicable

I agree at least she doesn’t look squinty like sjp (but she’s also not doing the dark liner all the way around) but at a certain, ahem, age, it’s time to say goodbye to the blue on blue shadow to eye action…it just ages you in a way that’s not necessary.

i think it’s time she meet Bobbi Brown… time to find a nice neutral that highlights those gorgeous eyes…

  • styrch

I think she looks like she wished she had a role on AHS this season.

  • pepper76

That collar is too twee for her. I could see this on Michelle Williams or someone like Selma Blair.

    Also — too much boobage.

  • Darva Sutra

“It’s like she hired Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair and makeup artist and he only knows how to do one head.”

Sorry, but no, SJP’s makeup person does NOT know how to do her head. SJP’s gays need to stage an intervention. At this point I don’t even think she can see herself out of those terrible tight-lined, soulless looking eyes. Shudder.

  • RoseJB

This dress is sexier with the bow belt.

  • Danielle

I loathe Peter Pan collars irrationally.

    • Lori

Hatred of Peter Pan collars is completely rational.

      • Danielle

I’m so glad someone agrees! You can come sit by me. *pats seat*

        • Lori

The “people who know a bad collar when they see one” corner is the place to be.

  • lunchcoma

She’s too busty for this look and – I hate to say it – perhaps a few years too old for it. That fussy neckline is only going to work on someone who’s very young and a little cutesy.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I don’t like the dress, either. It’s very like the front end of a Buick in that bodice.

  • SugarSnap108

I would love to see further Girl That Is Not Your Head posts. And yes, I agree that her head needs re-tooling here. But I’m not wild about the dress either.

  • prettybigkitty

If she had just run a brush through her curls her hair would have looked so much better. Shoot.

  • i am so bored of black. if you’re not on american horror story, i don’t want to see it.

  • JDreesen

i think all three heads need rethinking.

[translation: that bodice is smothering her babies.]

  • Sonja Brisson

No. This is just utterly bad. Sad, because she could look awesome, but i don’t get the dress, the hair and I think the black polish in this case is just…not right. Don’t country stars get gays to help set them style straight, too?

  • rondele

Why would she do her eyes like that and not her lips? That black dress next to her face makeup makes her pale out. Of course it does make her hair stand out, if that’s the point. She doesn’t look bad, just almost.

  • quiltrx

She has, in principle, a beautiful head of hair. I don’t know why it looks so disappointing most of the time.
And I don’t like this dress for her. Too much going on in the bodice, and it widens her.

  • I get that she has to sell the show and I get that she has to maintain the hair for the show but that said, when she steps out as Connie B., can’t she drop Raina for 5 minutes? Seriously. She would be so much better served to wear her hair and makeup dramatically different than on the show.

  • elzatelzabelz

Connie Britton’s hair can do no wrong. Ever.
