Colin O’Donoghue as “Captain Hook” on the Set of “Once Upon a Time”

Posted on November 08, 2013

It has come to our attention that many of you are not getting enough men in head-to-toe leather in your lives. This needs to be rectified.

Colin O’Donoghue as “Captain Hook” seen on the sets of “Once Upon a Time” in Steveston, Canada.

It doesn’t make our pants move, but who knows? Maybe the ladyfolk will get their nethers bothered.

This is laugh OUT loud, funny!! Ridiculous! I know it’s a costume but still….. He’s got great eyes. Everything else is….like… a hotter version of Ben Stiller on the set of something absolutely bat shit crazy/stupid (but probably funny).

      • Sobaika

        • NYCGlamourpuss

“The Little MerMAN, Dad! The Little MerMAN!”

    • Nicholas

      That costume makes ZERO sense.

We’re way beyond The Pirates of Penzance territory here.

      • Heather

It’s very Renaissance Faire… where things from entirely different centuries — eras, even — are mixed together into an anachronistic, ahistorical fashion statement.

      • MoHub

Better far to live and die …

      • Gayer Than Thou

He just needs to take it off.

    • tereliz

Don’t watch the show, but he’s okay, I guess. Looks a little overwhelmed by all that leather, almost wee. Like his neck would break if you put a hat on him.

      • ampg

What’s funny is that if you watch the show you can tell he’s clearly out of character in these pics. The costume’s ridiculous, but as Hook, he seriously owns it.

        • RebeccaKW

Agreed. Here he isn’t displaying the attitude he works as Hook.

    • rkdgal

I’d love to say I’M HOOKED! But I’m not. He’s cute enough, but the outfit does nothing for me :)

    • cocohall

Those sleeves must be no fun at the craft services table.

    • NBG

The proportions on the coat are throwing this into the realm of the ridiculous. Captain Hook should not be hard to make look cool but it seems like they took their measurements on the coat from the cartoon version! D’oh!

    • Fordzo

      God Bless His Chest Hair.

      • homofascist

        • KCF

double Amen. I miss chest hair.

      • Zaftiguana

Yes! So glad someone in the media realizes that while waxed, six-packified pretty boys are certainly beloved by many, they don’t universally dampen panties.

        • Fordzo

This, right here, is the perfect amount of chest hair. Let it be known, some of us like texture.

      • forward_slash_PRS

        Yes! thank you —

    • foodycatAlicia

      I like his coat lining.

      • calbear97

Wait, is he the coat lining here? 😉

        • foodycatAlicia

Haha – no! I’m afraid I am genuinely looking at the clothes and not the boy.

    • GenieinTX

I think he’s yummy, but I’m tired of the costume too. I want to see him in jeans and a tight tshirt.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

He would actually be the perfect MC for Miss Universe.

      • Valdri8

I was just about to write the same thing!

    • msdamselfly

      He’s adorable

    • Janet B

      My teen likes, a lot.

    • Article117

      I’d swab his deck.

    • Kiltdntiltd

I know its supposed to be a fantasy, but I didn’t realize they were doing a gay porno version of Peter Pan.

      • homofascist

I think you and I should help him find something more appropriate to wear…

      • Nicoclaws

Peter Pan said in last episode or so “I want to see your hook in him.”.

    • Clueless_Jock

      I want that outfit.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

      Cute guy, stupid ass costume.

    • TrishR

So, he has no hook?? Or just ‘not yet’ in the story? Never seen the show. Never plan to see the show. Yet still a bit curious on the hook-less Hook.

      • Angela_the_Librarian

He has a hook in the show. I’m guessing this is between takes so he doesn’t have it on. Either that or it could be a flashback to a pre-hook time period

      • terpsichory

Yeah, I wanted to ask ‘where’s the hook?’ (That would have worked on more then one level – I don’t watch OuaT either), but you covered it.

Btw, has anyone seen Neverland, as in the British TV mini-series? It was camp but Rhys Ifans made a surprisingly sexy Hook.

        • Fanny_Trollope

Rhys Ifans as Hook? Now I’ve got to find.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

Thank You!! He is the main reason why I still watch Once Upon a Time (well him and Robert Carlyle). So yummy. I hope he ends up with Emma, Neal is such a bore!

      • MilaXX

There’s something I find very likable about this show despite the bad CGI & crappy costumes.

        • Jen Freeman

I agree with both of you. Sexy Capt Hook is my fave, he and Emma absolutely need to hook up. And I watch it every week, even though when talking about it I’m always like “So I watch this show, its really cheesy and terrible…”

          • ampg

When I first saw them setting up the Emma-Neal-Hook love triangle, I was super annoyed, but now I love it. He and Emma have great chemistry, and I love how he goes kind of shy and vulnerable around her.

            Ugh. I need help.

            • Jen Freeman

Nope, I totally get it. Like the expression he made after the kiss/touching his lips. Adorable.

        • Violina23

I gave up midway through last season, but the hubby still watches and sometimes I look up and watch the characters chase after the current McGuffin of the arc, and laugh at how silly it all sounds.
But it’s all in good fun, I suppose, I just lost interest, maybe because it was too much effort to keep such a contrived world & its workings straight.
That being said… I saw Hook’s first few episodes and found him adorable, which might not have been what they were going for. But I have a thing for British accents…

        • Angela_the_Librarian

I think I keep watching because I was obsessed with fairy tales as a child (and I mean the actual, dark Grimm and Christian Andersen stuff) and it’s fun to see the characters in a sorta-real world setting (even if they are the Disney-fied versions). I also like the conventions the creators of the show brought over from Lost (e.g. good group cast, good execution of flashbacks and sideways storylines, etc.). It’s fluff, but it’s fun :-)

          • International Model

Curious to know your feelings on the upcoming “Frozen” – Disney loves Hans Christian Andersen but not his dark endings.

            • Angela_the_Librarian

I’ve only seen a few commercials for it, but it doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the original story (apart from there being a Snow queen). I think my biggest pet peeve with the Disneyfication of the classic fairy tales is the constant need for a perfect happy ending. I always preferred Shelley Duvall’s Faerie Tale series because they were pretty accurate to the original books (less violent of course). Oh, for a really beautifully illustrated version of Snow Queen I would recommend the recent edition illustrated by Vladyslav Yerko.

            • International Model

That is a good rec – I will check that out! Faerie Tale Theater was amazing – the interpretation of The Nightingale with Barbara Hershey and Bud Cort is one of my favorites.

          • fursa_saida

Just curious–do you watch Grimm? It’s loosely based on the fairy tales (though it’s strayed from them a bit in the last season or so), but is much darker than OUaT. They both came out around the same time, and as a massive folklore fan I was excited about both, but I gave up on OUaT pretty quickly whereas I’m still watching Grimm. It’s also objectively not a super fantastic show–there are some writing issues for sure–but I find it way more compelling if only because it’s willing to go to darker places.

            • Angela_the_Librarian

Yes, I watch Grimm too, though I almost gave up on it during Juliette’s amnesia storyline last season (it was seriously annoying and went on far too long). Most of the episodes have been pretty decent so far this season, so I’ll probably keep watching.

            • fursa_saida

That made me so annoyed. They dragged it out way too long and damsel-in-distressed her way too much. I actually like her character in general (and I’m glad to see now that she’s fully in the know and not suffering from some kind of psychic manipulation she has actual contributions to make, as I always thought she would), but the writers just keep doing the worst possible things with her.

      • Tânia

for me he is the ONLY reason why I still watch the show

      • conniemd

Neal is boring and totally lacking in sex appeal. Bad casting of him. Hook is delicious and I’m so happy that someone else adores watching Robert Carlyle. He is deliciously complex as Gold/Rumple

        • RebeccaKW

Robert Carlyle is amazing. Hook is so hot and his voice is sex. Pure sex.

    • WendyD

I saw ‘Loki 3: My Brother Has a Second Movie’ last night and if ladies need their leather fix, go see that.
This guy looks good from the neck up, but his leathers have nothing on Loki’s. Plus, Hiddleston’s in handcuffs half his time on-screen.

      • formerlyAnon

I’ve already made the call that I’m getting the DVD for Christmas. I don’t care that I will be soundly mocked by my family, since they all know WHY I want it.

    • VeryNot

The costuming on this show is ridiculously bad. The latest episode had a fairytale ball with all the women dressed as if it was prom. See also: Fairy Godmother costume for some real laughs. Makes her look like a blue squid with boobs. A CHEAP blue squid with boobs.

The actor playing Hook is very, very pretty though. I’d like to see him OUT of all that leather.

      • Angela_the_Librarian

+100. Seriously, the costumes are sooo bad on the show. You wouldn’t think it would be difficult to create gowns for a fairy tale ball, but somehow they managed to create the ugliest things. Would have been better off getting stuff off the rack at Deb’s!

      • WendyD

I can’t get past that his pants aren’t completely leather. I’m sure it is more comfortable for the actor and cheaper for the wardrobe department for the pants to only be “leather” on the outsides, but I can’t unsee it in these photos.

        • foodycatAlicia

At least his thighs don’t squeak when he walks.

        • VeryNot

I can’t get over that his boots are actually half-chaps. They couldn’t make him real boots?

      • sweetestsith

The costumes for this show drive me nuts. They are crazy detailed (see above), but almost never distressed or made out of halfway decent fabric. It’s so freaking stupid, and really pisses me off.

I do find their tendency (mostly done to the ladies) to mix designer pieces with homema-, err, custom made pieces hilarious.

        • formerlyAnon

I get huge entertainment from the costumes. They’re like really, really detailed, elaborately painted sets . . . that visibly vibrate and/or wobble when the actors move.

      • Jennifer L.

Totally! And the Blue Fairy is always wearing actual stripper shoes, like the 6in lucite platform stripper shoes.

        • Tina Power

And irony of the fairies being nuns in our world.

        • VeryNot

          Well she is short.

          • International Model

            Fairies shouldn’t have Napoleon complexes.

          • Jennifer L.

Yes, I suppose that is the… logical explanation? :)

        • ampg

My favorite part about the Blue Fairy is how she flutters her arms constantly, as if nobody told her that they would be putting CGI wings on her. I do love this show, though.

      • stardust462

I agree that the costumes for the ball last week were so disappointing, but I adore everything that Regina as the Evil Queen has worn.

        • International Model

Regina is the budget. Poor Snow and Ariel had to look through the Windsor clearance rack…

          • Nicoclaws

And let’s not talk about FlashbackSnow’s hair. Is it me or does it get worse and worse ? Like they cannot buy another wig ?

Anyways, I only watch this show for SexyHook and Evilqueena. And sometimes I want to hug Rumplestilskin.

        • Zaftiguana

I adore it in the way that I adore nostalgic representations of circa 1992 drag queens. If I felt confident that this was the intention of the designer, I could probably really get behind these choices and just LIVE for the times when they glue a black doily to her forehead.

      • International Model

Why do the fairies all look like cupcakes?

      • Zaftiguana

See, and this is actually why I want T Lo to blog it. Not even the show, per se (although that could also be a hoot). Just the costumes. Like Mad Style except way shadier.

      • formerlyAnon

One of the things I like about the show is the . . . improvisational feel to the costumes. It’s entertaining.

    • MilaXX

That costume looks like it weighs a ton. The boots alone look crazy uncomfortable. This looks does nothing for me, maybe he improves in regular clothes.

    • not_Bridget

Not impressed. My favorite male costume on current TV is worn by Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane on Sleepy Hollow. Rumor is he’ll be getting it dry cleaned soon–but most fans hope he doesn’t change his look much.

      It’s a very good look….

      • Nancer

It’s a good look, but I keep thinking that someone should buy him some jeans and t-shirts. Walking around in same clothing every episode just isn’t going to work forever!

        • sweetestsith

THANK YOU. He wears the clothes oh so very well, but if they’re going for gritty-supernatural “realism”, his costume is ridiculous. Boy needs new clothes.

          • not_Bridget

I don’t know that the show is going for “gritty” anything. And I still hope they let Mison dress distinctively. Perhaps not always period correct–but a bit like Cumberbatch’s Sherlock. We have enough crewcut dweebs in Dockers & polo shits…

        • tereliz

That’s what my husband said, but then I reminded him that in Ichabod’s time you DID wear everything until it basically fell off your body or you got something new.

    • Figgy

    • DaringMiss

Droopy boots. I have seen better at Ren Faire.

The production values on this show are so pathetic – even more so because it is a major network. The costuming is so weak – and you know that LA is just teeming with costume house with racks of decent stuff.

      • Nancer

I know. It looks like they raided a high school production for most of their costumes.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Well hell. I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t really need my ovaries anymore.

    • Bexxx

This is really atrocious costuming. They could have made it so cool.

He’s cute though. Like, really cute.

    • Cheryl

I’m going to be the iconoclast. I LIKE the leather. And the buttons. And the clasps. And the boots. And the grommets. And the necklace. He’s also quite cute, but would love to see him without facial hair.

      • Tina Power

He plays a priest I think In the Anthony Hopkins movie “The Rite” he’s pretty clean in that.

    • az67

      His facial hair is perfection.

    • Tatiana Luján

      That leather looks like plastic.

      • tereliz

Those “boots” look like they came from an online costume retailer.

        • Fordzo

I thought they looked like costume “boots”, too.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

I know, they totally don’t fit!

      • Frank_821

yes it’s odd the boots with covers looks suprrisingly cheap. The trousers are terriific. The jerkin and overcoat are nicely made albeit standard looking

        • formerlyAnon

The mix of “cheap” “terrific” and “standard” is how the costuming works on this show. Once I realized that, I started derive much entertainment from it.

    • MW

      Fabulous face, rubbish costume.

    • Malibufire

Chest hair and necklace: heading back in time to Tom Jones territory.

    • mrspotts66

he’s cute, but my nethers are not bothered.
      love the coat.

      • Fordzo

My nethers remain carefree as well.

        • tereliz

Not much going on betwixt my nethers, either.

    • ewes_urn_aim

He needs a less modern hairdo.

    • Valdri8

      Talk about coat porn!

    • Lucas

    • LadyCelia

Looks like something that Duncan Regehr would have worn on Wizards and Warriors back in the day. One of the running jokes was that all that leather made him creak when he walked.

    • ashtangajunkie

My nethers are fine. I’m mostly concerned that Capital Hook doesn’t have long, curly hair. Bummer.

    • amber.

    • Mismarker

All I can see is poor man’s Joseph Fiennes… who, in turn, is really just poor man’s Ralph Fiennes. If we are going to be looking at male tv stars on set, might I suggest Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow?

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Eh… he does nothing for me. He’s pretty, but the costume is silly.

And speaking of silly costumes, please make the rest of today all about Miss Universe Part 3, dear Uncles!

    • DTLAFamilies

The outfit is ridiculous, the man is delicious.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

        Yep, perfectly stated.

    • judybrowni

      What leather?

    • Leslie Streeter

He pretty. His accent is delicious too.

    • Dancer

    • Danielle

      *clutches pearls*

    • Tracy_Flick

Oh god yes. Bless you, TLo.

    • decormaven

Clarification: many of us are not getting enough men in TIGHT head-to-toe leather.

    • marlie

This is a pretty hot look. Thanks, uncles. 😉

      • Sarah

I like it too. I don’t care if it’s fake looking. I can pretend it’s real. (hangs head in BK shame)

        • marlie

There’s absolutely nothing realistic about it, but a hot guy playing pirate in black leather (and an oddly gorgeous coat) with a hint of chest hair is really what’s doing it for me today.

ETA: And there’s no shame in that!

          • Sarah

Agreed! Agreed! And I like JD’s pirate, but he does look like he could use a shower. I like ’em rugged, but clean 😉

    • International Model

Hook/Pan have more chemistry on this show than anyone put together.

    • NurseEllen

WELL! Costuming cavils be damned, this is quite the licorice stick! (And I don’t even like licorice.)

    • Sarah Thomas

Isn’t the point of Captain Hook’s outfit that he’s dressed exactly like King Charles, and therefore hard to change?

    • xay

I don’t watch this show but between the corny costume, his hairy chest and brown eyes – I might have to start.

      • twigg

        blue eyes actually.

    • NMMagpie

Dammit. Dark hair, blue eyes and leather. Dammit.

    • dickylarue

While drunk, I recently came to the realization that I don’t ever want to watch Once Upon A Time anymore. I don’t even hate watch it. It’s something completely different. About 2 minutes into an episode I start wondering when it’s going to end. The next morning I woke up and deleted this current season (which I had only watched a few episodes of) off the DVR. I’m a better, happier, more productive person because of this bold life choice. And the fact that I never have to hear the guy from The Full Monty say “dearie” in that douche-chilling voice ever again successfully lowered my blood pressure.

      • ShaoLinKitten

I feel the same way about The Walking Dead.

    • Lynzee Michelle Lamb

I have a girl crush on this guy and it doesn’t hurt that he spends most of the show being overtly sexual all the time *fans self*

    • traceyishere

He’s not enough for this outfit

    • JDreesen

oh no. my two-year-old daughter just walked up, pointed at the screen and said, “look at his shoes! look at his shoes; they’re perfect!”

      which means two things:

      1) i am not actively watching my two-year-old daughter right now; and

      2) my two-year-old daughter and i have vastly different definitions of the word “perfect” when it comes to men’s leather pirate boots.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

You need to get that child onto this site immediately if you want to teach her what a perfect fitting boot looks like! I’m saying skip Sesame Street – THiS is more important!

        • JDreesen

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH – no worries there; she’s a seasoned critic when it comes to this site.

she likes to look at the pretty people and will ask me what their names are. she gets very discouraged when i don’t know the names of those in the backgrounds of the photos (yeah, she asks for all the names), so i’ve just been making them up. i am usually pretty good at coming up with creative monikers, but i end up getting pretty lazy as the day goes on.

so…there are a whole lot more people in the world named Jimmy and Louise now than there used to be.

    • International Model

This show is singularly the best and the worst. CGI, costumes, certain castings, translating characters, Pinocchio…this man is one of the few good things. He a high priest in the Smoldering Monkhood. I just wish they had given him a better storyline. Right now, he and Pan have the only believable chemistry on the show.

    • Knightley

I might need to start watching this show….

    • AmeliaEve

One sign of my advancing age is that the princes on OauT bore me to tears. Only the villains are interesting at all.

      • formerlyAnon

This is not advancing age. It is an accurate reflection of the charisma of the characters/actors. One can debate acting ability, personal taste, script writing all one wants – the bottom line is the same.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

He’s cute but that costume is too big and makes him look small.

      • Trickytrisha

Yep, he looks about 5’6″ in that last pic. Apparently he’s 5’11”.

        • DTLAFamilies

Don’t believe anything you read online about actors’ heights. I wrote an article on it once and they *all* lie about it.

          • Trickytrisha

            Lol, yeah… I should have said “supposedly he’s 5’11”.

    • sleah_in_norcal

      coat porn, fairytale style.

    • Jen Freeman

Honestly, I love him and his character and find him sexy as hell.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

All the waxed chests in Hollywood are tiring.

    • frannyprof

All that leather is making my putka itch and burn.

    • Adrianna Grężak

I want the lady version of that coat

    • Eric Stott

Nice outfit, but that’s a doucheface

    • formerlyAnon

      He’s got a lotta potential.
But as a hot costume . . . it’s easier to appreciate than the furries, (for those of us who don’t share that fetish), I’ll give ya that.

    • Daenyx

That show kind of grosses me out in a lot of ways (hamfisted moralizing, mostly), but I wholeheartedly approve of rogueish men in head-to-toe leather. Good choice! 😀

    • Conniepop

Post pictures of Richard Armitage if you want to get ladies panties in a bunch.

      • Alexis Boucher

I was going to reference that but you beat me to it.

Have you seen the youtube video where the sound is Richard reading poetry? Good night.

    • julnyes

      That is not pirate hair.

    • Irish Rodriguez Reyes

This is like porn-set Captain Hook – “I’m here to sail your unruly seas, wink, wink!”

    • Maggie Smith

Wait, seriously? they have him in boot spats?????? These aren’t even pretending to be half chaps for horse riding. They’re clearly spats to make him look like he’s wearing pirate boots. WHY? There are plenty of super sexy WAY better looking than these pirate boots on the market right now. I can point this costumer to several handfuls of men with better footwear than this guy at Texas Renaissance Festival tomorrow. I’m gonna need this costumer to explain this to me.

    • raininmai

I don’t care about the outfit, but it’s lovely to see a man with hair on his chest. :)

    • DeanaDolar

It turns out my interest in fashion has a lot more to do with sewing than it does with celebrity. Guys: START REVIEWING PR again please. I kind of enjoy keeping up with what the SuperRich are doing, but not enough to visit regularly. Need me some staged drama and Brother sewing machines…….

    • Pterodactyl111

This is reason #2 that I still watch Once Upon a Time. Reason #1 is Robert Carlyle.

      • Victoria Pavlova

Oh, were we supposed to look at the clothes? I just never can get past the devilish twinkle in his eyes and the scruffy beard and moustache. I admit. I love when my men look scruffy bad boy and he definitely stirs my nether region when I watch the show.

Now HIM I find attractive. You get down with your bad self, Captain Hook.

    • Nazzzy

Since seeing Jason Isaacs as Hook, I’ve been unable to imagine anyone else playing the role. This one does nothing for me.

Jason Isaacs as Hook was perfection! This guy, on the other hand, irrationally annoys me, and the costume is way trashy – doesn’t begin to compare.

    • Laurie Landry

      neh, i’m good, but thanks.

    • ThatPeterG

      oh, dear Gussie, that’s FINE…

    • quiltrx

That is total coat porn! I’d love a slightly more lady version…or I’ll take this one and who cares how ‘sturdy’ I look in it LOL.

It makes my pant moves. It’s probably the open V, chest hair, and cute mug.

    • Cordelia_Gray

He’s cute, but Jason Isaacs as Hook is perfection.
