Cobie Smulders in Temperley London at the “Delivery Man” Premiere

Posted on November 05, 2013

Really, are we such horrible bitches?

Cobie Smulders attends the “Delivery Man” Los Angeles Premiere in a Temperley London black embellished dress paired with EF Collection and Graziela Gems jewelry.

Temperley London Spring 2014 Collection

She’s beautiful. The dress is very pretty. We can’t really find anything too objectionable in the look.  Well okay: stripper shoes. But aside from that, it’s hard for us to work up the bitchiness. And yet, she always seems like she’s nowhere near her full potential on the style front.

Example: The dress is interesting and pretty, but she defaults to colorless looks too much. Blue-eyed brunettes may have the broadest range of colors to choose from, in terms of what looks good on them. She could be so much more striking if she’d embrace some jewel tones. Also, the shape here … it’s not unflattering, of course. Just not the best choice for her.

We don’t know. We always feel a little bad when we start nitpicking a beautiful woman in a pretty outfit, but she really could be knocking them dead with very little effort. She needs guidance.

We’re here for you, Cobie.

You forgot to mention the wind tunnel hair. And her toes are trying to free themselves from the stripper sandals.

    • blogless

From the front it almost looks like a comb-over to me.

  • gloriana232

Would have been much sassier with the coat.

    • Jessica Freeman

That was my first thought too. Though I’m not sure she could have pulled it off.

      • rage_on_the_page

Sure she could! She’s Robin Scherbatsky!

    • lunchcoma

I was just about to type that.

    • MoHub

That swing coat absolutely makes the look.

      • decormaven

        Pity it’s not deployed here.

    • conniemd

My first words. Wear.The.Coat. The dress is shapeless by itself, plus it’s November, after all.

    • queen b*tch

      I agree…
On another note – where are the models arms?! Its really freaking me out!

  • Anna Vasquez

Y’know, I think part of her problem might be that for a former model, she just doesn’t seem to be very good at posing either above or below the neck. I’m wondering if I saw her wearing this exact outfit in person whether I’d be anything but blown away by how gorgeous she is.

But also, I hate this hairstyle.

    • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

That is not a hairstyle, is the problem. It’s a look that calls for something sleek, and she’s wearing 1800s milkmaid.

    • kimmeister

She used to be a model? I actually find her rather unphotogenic. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s gorgeous, I just think she tends to not photograph well.

      • Anna Vasquez

        Maybe that’s it? No idea.

    • Jenna Marie

I totally agree. In my mind, the thing that defines her is, “Pretty TV Actress.” She’s perfect for television and absolutely gorgeous, but she wasn’t made for the red carpets and movie premieres. She always looks so uncomfortable and like she’s swallowed in the crowd.

  • RussellH88

Anyone else think the fabric looks really cheap?

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

I was thinking, “Charlotte Russe for Sadie Hawkins Dance ’97″.

    • Anna Vasquez

You think it’s more than just the fact that it’s wrinkled? (Why don’t they have mini-steamers in the limos?)

    • ballerinawithagun

No, it does not look cheap. It is either silk satin or a very fine silk shantung.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

It’s the fashion equivalent of the the old parental chestnut, “you’re not living up to your potential!”

    Cliche, but true.

  • anabel22

Her hair is bad & the dress looks cheap

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

The dress cuts her at the thighs in the most unflattering way.

    • Sobaika

Well, I personally don’t think you could make stems like hers look bad in any way whatsoever. But it is maybe a hair too short and she should look into lotioning up before hitting the red carpet.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Those are some pretty amazing gams. I just hate that line – it’s like when the line of a longer dress or skirt hits that unflattering line not quite below your knee and not quite at your ankles. This is the thigh version.

        • ampg

Right – it just throws off her body proportions in an odd way. Two more inches on the skirt would’ve improved the whole look.

  • Jessica Freeman

Bedazzling black satin does not make the dressing interesting. I think the coat on the model is more interesting than the dress. The hair is bad, as are the shoes. Make up needs some more umph.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Her feet are making me ragey. No excuse for all that toe action. She’s gorgeous, but this is so short that she’s having to slouch in order to keep her lady bits covered and the girls are lacking the support they need. She has good instincts, I think, but she lacks the ability to full on pull the trigger.

    • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

If my waist was as slim and shapely as hers, I wouldn’t wear an A-line shift, ever, bedazzlers bedamned. And no, no, no, strippershoes. Can we get a vote on having them banished from the world?

      • demidaemon

What about all the poor strippers in the world? They need their shoes too!

        • http://skreened.com/bkcentral Sarah

Okay. The can have em. But they have to have be a card carrying stripper, and get the shoes at a specially regulated strippers-only shoe store, mmkay?

  • AmeliaEve

Look at how she holds her hands away from her body. It’s like she’s afraid of touching the dress. She looks so uncomfortable, it wouldn’t matter what dress she had on. Ick.

    • marlie

Her body language is *definitely* saying that she’s not terribly comfortable. It’s unfortunate.

  • ashtangajunkie

I’d forgive her lack of effort if she changed her shoes.

  • ChaCha_70

The word that comes to mind about this ensemble is “unfinished”.

  • cakecakecake

    Horribly unflattering

  • ConnieBV

The real crime here is that I could have worn this, and I’m not gorgeous or rich or famous. Step it up, lady. They didn’t name the perfume or the song “Forgettable”.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Her expression is so pained. She looks like she really would rather be somewhere else.

    • LeighanimalChic

That’s exactly what is bothering me most, her expression… but the hair, shoes & lack of makeup are close behind.

  • teensmom99

The dress is too short and if ever a dress needed its coat to be something special, this is it.

    • Lori

It really did look better with the coat. (Although the fact that the model looks like she doesn’t have any arms is sort of freaking me out.)

  • Glam Dixie

Why did she sleep on her hair before leaving her home? Not good.

  • hughman

Wear the mini-dress they said. You’ll never have to lift your arms they said.

  • melanie0866

Really cute dress. But she is sliding out of those shoes.

  • boweryboy

Meh. It’s a half assed effort on her part. She’s expecting the dress to do all the heavy lifting.

Not to mention the proportions seem off to me. It’s too stiff, too short, shoes too heavy, hair too casual, and make-up non-exisitent.

  • http://wipgirl.wordpress.com Kristel

She always seems vaguely uncomfortable on the red carpet. Like a kid playing dress-up in her mama’s clothes.

    • Anplica Fiore

And the shoes probably aren’t helping her here. They look to be at least a size too small. Doesn’t she make enough to buy her own shoes??

    • Bridget Smith

EXCEPT when she was promoting The Avengers: she regularly looked absolutely smashing. Glorious, interesting dresses, comfortable confidence, great hair and make-up…I don’t know if it didn’t pay off like she’d hoped, or if she just got tired, but she hasn’t been able to hit that level again. It’s all the more disappointing to know that she CAN.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

This dress has obliterated her figure.

  • Richard Banger

She seems like one of those pretty girls who have no idea how pretty they are. Someone needs to give her a huge slap in the face and yell at her “BITCH! Snap out of this Melinda Doolittle shit! You’re pretty! You’re very pretty!”

  • mjude

I think the dress is a tad short & also the fabric looks so stiff.

  • MilaXX

Those are the shoes Jamie Alexander should be wearing with her almost nekked dress. I like Codies look here but at the very least she needs a better shoe.

  • marlie

I agree with the uncles. It’s pretty, but someone failed on the styling. This would have looked stunning with the coat that the model has on, and some more dramatic makeup. As it is, it’s yoga hair and “everyday” work makeup. And what about some kickass earrings or a bracelet? There’s nothing wrong with this look, but it has SO much potential to be so much MORE.

  • decormaven

For the love of Mike, if a star has got to totter down the RC in these ultra stilettos, please make sure they are fitted properly. These shoes are a half-size too short; it’s a wonder she didn’t fall over. Also: statement earrings. Look into them. Babies wear bigger earrings than this.

  • calimon

Ya, the look (makeup, hair, shoes, dress) is surprisingly (because, as TLo says, she could quite easily wow us) weak.

  • Adriana

Are we not mentioning the horrible hair? Okay then!

  • TerryMH

Blech! Jewelry-uninspiring, makeup-barely there, dress- wrinkled, and shoes-stripper barbie. With all the god-given beauty this woman has and the tremendous resources at her disposal and this is what she comes up with for the red carpet??? A real shandeh as my jewish mother would say.

  • jjjoy

she must have a lot of say in what Robin wears on HIMYM because her wardrobe on the show is also very tailored, clean and devoid of color.

  • Trickytrisha

“We’re here for you, Cobie”? Tell her to quit doing her own hair.

  • filmcricket

She looks freezing. Wearing the coat would have helped with that, honey. I also would add some kick-ass boots and far more dramatic make-up.

  • Tatiana Luján

the dress looks gorgeous with the coat the model is sporting, but ill shaped without it, as if it were made with a little girls’ dress patterns

  • Danielle

    That hair is terrible.

  • sagecreek

Did she steal her hairdresser’s boyfriend? Because that’s some seriously Bad Hair.

  • Imasewsure

The outfit deserves better. Just blah and an unflattering length and shape on her really

  • jw_ny

She certainly has the gams to pull of a short dress like this! The dress itself is cute on her, she needs to amp up the styling tho because this is a rather dull look overall.

  • crash1212

I love the dress and think she looks cute in it. The shoes have to go though. Wrong choice for the dress and they don’t fit. Gripping toes are never a great way to accessorize. Better shoes and a stronger lip and this would be a WERQ for me.

  • SugarSnap108

I hate her shoes, but I love her name.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I think she’s just really uncomfortable on the red carpet and she looks it. I’d like this better with the coat. This way, it’s more like a pretty black dress. The coat makes it special. But the bitchface and clear discomfort would pretty much ruin any outfit.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I don’t think there’s anything here that’s working to her advantage. Meh.

  • Aurumgirl

She needs the jacket (which really makes the dress remarkable rather than just adorned but typical) and a pair of shoes that fits. A contrast in colour somewhere would have made a huge difference, too.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

it is a beautiful dress, in spite of being all boring black. if it were a little more fitted at the waist it would be more flattering. more color in the makeup and some dazzling earrings would help.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

It looks really stiff, like how can she be comfortable in it? And I hate the shoes. I think if the material looked a little more forgiving, I would like this better.

  • Aaminah Khan

She has such beautiful eyes. How did she manage to make them look small and beady?

  • elleg929

It all looks twee to me.

  • nannypoo

    Too stiff and too short.

  • Kelly

The dress looks sack-like, and I really hate the messy hair. Calculated messiness always looks silly to me.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

You guys summed it up perfectly. There is nothing wrong here but she needs an intervention. Stiff dress, horrific shoes. Come on. She is stunning. Someone (TLo) help her find a style niche that gives her some life. I want a Dockery-like transformation.

  • E. D.

The skirt looks like it’s a solid 3″ too short.

  • French_Swede

What happened to the model’s arms?

  • demidaemon

Her hair is just TERRIBLE. And that dress does nothing for her. Fail.

  • quiltrx

I love the bodice, then it goes all Stiff Shapeless Sack on her.
And that hair is a tragedy.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Lengthen the dress a little. Add the jacket, and for goodness sake, a better pair of shoes, and we have a look.

  • girlsaturday

And yet, the only thing I can take away from this post is “Where the hell are that runway model’s arms?”

  • luluransom

    That’s the worst toe-verhang I’ve seen in a while.

  • Sadie Farrell

Robin Sparkles all grown up. But still stuck in the nineties.

  • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

Exactly on point about not reaching her full potential. She’s so beautiful and yet so boring in the sartorial sense, it hurts me
