Street WERQ: Dita Von Teese in Zac Posen in Los Angeles

Posted on October 16, 2013

The lady’s a pro. Actually, she’s more than that. When it comes to wearing clothes, she’s an artist.

Dita Von Teese steps out in a Zac Posen red floral printed dress in Los Angeles.

Zac Posen Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Laura Love

Because to be perfectly honest, we’re not fans of this dress but somehow it looks breathtaking on her. Oddly, her shoes and bag kind of clash with it. She’s been dressing in a more vaguely modern style (in that she goes out in drag less and less anymore) even though she makes practically anything look vintage just by putting it on. Case in point: see above. But it seems to us she could brush up on the pop of color/contrasting color accessorizing trend.

Still, you WERQ that skirt and sashay down that ce-ment, girl. GODDESS SNAPS.

She’s giving me so much life that I’m now immortal.

    • Fashion Highlander could be a show I could get into.

      • Lori

I would watch every episode and compulsively refresh my computer the next morning waiting for the TLo recap.

      • Shawn EH

Imagine how well your rivals would match and accessorize their swords!

      • Adriana_Paula

You have inside you blood of queens?

        • kimbalala

      • Sarah

This is good, because then when Swinton cut off her head (as inevitably would happen) I could swoop in and steal her body to use for my own. Assuming that the whole head-transplant operation works in Fashion Highlander-land.

        • Chickadeep

What happens in the inevitable final battle between Swinton and Bowie?

          • Sarah

Iman steps in, saves her man, and Swinton and she fuse into a giant, two-headed FASHION GODDESS, like Voltron.

          • Chickadeep

I am *SO* watching that show.

          • demidaemon

  • Diego!

WERQ indeed! I LOVE her shoes too! Sorry guys, but we all agree she deserves a WERQ label! 😀

    • Lucía Gavello

I actually love the shoes with this too! and those shades… perfection.

  • Just what I needed; a good solid dose of Dita.
    Much better now.
    Thanks Guys!!

  • I would love to add a jaunty, bright blue scarf or beads around her neck. I covet her shoes.

  • Lauren Frankel

She’s a freaking goddess commanding that perfect lighting. What can us mere mortals do. *sigh*

  • HomeOfficeGirl

That first picture – perfection!! The swish of the dress is only as SHE can do it. Sigh… so so gorgeous. She is so totally put together.

  • sagecreek

She looks great, and so elegant.

  • luvhuh

  • RedRaven617

She is another person who falls into the “what does she do?” category? (See Rita DeOra)

    • MilaXX

Rita Ora is a pop star. She makes music. Dita as far as I can tell does the occasional burlesque show, but is mostly famous for showing up looking retro and fab.

      • Glam Dixie

        And for marrying Marilyn Manson.

    • Nicole C

If you ever get a chance to see her burlesque show, DO IT. I went in SF last summer (she was touring) not knowing what to expect, and it was one of the most fun shows I’d been to in a while. If you think she looks beautiful in photos, wait until you see her in person. MEOWWWW. Not to mention, it put my husband and me and a good mood for that night 😉

    • Shawn EH

She strips. But better than anyone left alive.

  • luluransom

Those shades are fantastic on her.

  • Fantastic.

  • Imasewsure

GODDESS SNAPS indeed… she is a BK treasure. I hope she never stops

  • MilaXX

I’m not quite enamored of her, but I agree she looks good. My lone pet peeve is that metallic half moon manicure she loves. Of all the wacky nail art trends out there, this one bugs me the most. I have no rational reason why, I just hate it.

    • NDC_IPCentral

The half-moon manicure was quite the thing in the 40s, and I have a beautiful B&W studio portrait photo of my mother from that decade that shows her half-moon manicure. I like it for Ms. Von Teese, though hers is not the traditional rendition. It is in keeping with her nod to vintage style. I sure like it better than some of the manis I see on other celebs.

      • MilaXX

I know it’s a modern updating on a vintage look. Like I said, I have no idea why this one bugs, but I just find it ugly and annoying for some reason.

  • shirab

Can’t believe Dita travels in anything so mundane as a car. I feel like a hansom cab at the very least is called for with her.

In other news, is using “anymore” as “nowadays” only a Philly/NJ thing, or does that usage come up elsewhere? I feel like I never heard it growing up elsewhere in the mid-Atlantic, but I live in the TLo area and it’s quite common here.

    • Constant Reader

I had always thought of it as a Southern thing because I live in an area where there are Navy families (some from the South) who tend to use “anymore” instead of “nowadays.” Maybe it’s creeping northward? I live in New England and it’s not standard here yet.

  • GorgeousThings

    Dita RAWKS!!!!!!!
Seriously, I have such a girl crush on her.

  • Shawn EH

She’s seriously just thinking only about the reds here. She’s a walking bouquet.

  • Glam Dixie

I think part of the reason her clothes always look so impeccable is because they FIT. The always appear to be custom made to her exact specifications. That and she just makes clothes sing.

    • filmcricket

Nailed it. Either people give her the clothes so she can do what she wants with them, or… they’re so anxious for her to be seen in their clothes that she’s allowed to do what she wants with them. Or burlesque just pays that well, I suppose. Whatever the reason, things never gape, gap, pull or otherwise flop on her.

    • Also Dita knows the correct way to utilize foundation garments, I would almost gaurantee there’s a cincher or at least a VERY custom made bra under this dress. Something those starlets would completely ignore unless they were on a redcarpet.

      • Constant Reader

Also, she’s great at picking things that work well with her spectacular figure. It sounds easy, but so many ladystars fail in that regard so their outfits detract from their looks instead of enhancing them.

  • rh33

She makes Zac Posen look good.

  • decormaven

Thank the heavens she’s wearing color, and wearing it well. Maybe, just maybe, we’re pulling out of the fashion doldrums. Thank you, Miss Lady!

  • tmchale

She matched the dress with her skin and lipstick and it looks great.

  • Between her and Lupita today is turning into a master class.

  • Jane

She is amazing…nothing else needs to be said.

  • AmeliaEve

    Dita = Diva

  • another_laura

What – wait – is she closing the driver-side door of a car? Is she not chauffeured everywhere? Did she drive herself here? Horrors! She should be carried in a sedan chair, for pete’s sake!

  • Cheryl

I like it better on her than the model. Gorgeous.

  • MK03

Does she pay someone to follow her around with a fan so everything always looks perfectly fluttery?

  • crash1212

She certainly makes little Zac’s “saloon chic” look good. Guess that’s who he’s making his dresses for.

  • somebody blonde

She always has the best sunglasses. The rest looks fantastic too, but they really finish the look.

  • Trickytrisha

  • iheartnarwhals

Is it just me, or had the runway model been styled to look like Zac Posen?

    • Eric Stott

No- she doesn’t look Gay at all.

  • formerlyAnon

Soo pretty. And pretty is not an adjective I often jump to wit Ms. Von Teese’s ensembles.

  • Samuel Joesph Donovan

I love how much shade you guys throw at Zac Posen–every time you feature a dress of his it’s all “Dress is hideous, so thank god someone repping the paramount of fierce and fabulous.”

  • I can never meet her. Motorboating a complete stranger is SO uncool.

I love that dress. It’s floaty and romantic and they ruined it on the runway by putting that overwrought jacket on top.

    • mshesterp

It IS magnificent cleavage with that neckline, isn’t it?? I understand your temptation, but I’m sure it would be frowned upon.

…Although it IS Dita…she might just laugh.

    • Eric Stott

The jacket isn’t that bad, but it doesn’t pair up with the dress except in color.

  • Corsetmaker

She looks delicious. Thing is that dress is still basically a 1940s shape. The neckline, the sleeves. You could imagine GInger Rogers sashaying across a dancefloor in it.

  • HM3

    Those sunglasses…

  • carnush

So lovely. She is indeed a modern pinup.

  • Anne

I was thinking that too–that even when she’s wearing something as up-to-date as Zac Posen spring 2013, she looks a little vintage.

    • Eric Stott

It’s a ruffly and drapey floral print dress- it can’t help looking vintage. On the model the skirt looks a bit 1970’s Bohemian, but Dita takes it right back to the 50’s – or even a bit earlier. It’s all in the styling and attitude.

  • Erica_Vuitton

    Absolutley beautiful!

  • putacorkinit

She looks like she’s just turning up for the trial scene in ‘The Postman Always Knocks Twice’.

  • MoHub

All other ladies: please note that this is how you display cleavage without giving a 270-degree view of the girls.

  • Lilithcat

I love that dress! The shoes are a bit clunky for it, but I have no problem with the bag.

  • Rhonda Shore

For a moment i thought it was Katy Perry! Those two could play sisters in a movie!

  • I want to be her when I grow up.

  • MissusBee

Judging by the way the fabric falls on the bodice, it looks like she’s wearing a corset or basque underneath. And it’s tailored like skin in that region too. I think that, and her amazing posture (partly derived, surely, from years of serious undergarmentage) are what gives the dress a kick, not to mention that DVT signature pinup look.

  • bravobravp

I am assuming she is pretty well off considering she wears designer clothes and always looks fabulous. Does anyone know where her money comes from? Don’t know much about her and curious.

    • Kimbolina

She’s a huge burlesque star. I’m sure she rakes it in from performances/appearances. Also probably endorsements and whatnot.

  • Jackie4g

Busy print and excess seaming – it may be that Zac Posen needs an editor. I don’t like that much cleavage in a day dress, but Dita is so beautiful and well built that she carries it off.

  • up with pod people

the way the wedge of the shoe sort of calls back to the flipped cat eye of the glasses — really inspired.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Now, if ever there was a WERQ, this is it! That’s how you do it, bitches!

  • Jacob Bowen

I need a “Dita Von Teese Sunglasses Line” PLEASE! I LOVE her cat-eye shades I would WERQ those myself!

She looks pretty amazing in the whole outfit.

  • yethica

I would like Dita to date Tom Hiddleston. I feel, for some reason, like that would be a good match. But what do I know (really… nothing, actually.)
