Credit where it’s due: it’s not a mermaid dress.

Sofia Vergara attends the “Machete Kills” Los Angeles Premiere in a Zuhair Murad gown paired with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and David Webb jewelry.

It’s hard for us to compliment the sheer-over-mini, and those shoes are certainly looking strippertastic, but everything from about mid-thigh to the top of her head looks great. It’s 2/3 of a WERQ. At the very least, she should be applauded for doing something ever-so-slightly different from her norm.

It’s amazing how much thinner she looks when her cleavage is not on display.

      • H2olovngrl

It’s amazing how much thinner she looks when it appears she only has one leg.

        • LilyPad

My name is Amber, I got hepatitis B, a mad case of bedbugs, and I’m rocking one leg.” First thing I thought of when I saw these pics

    • PastryGoddess

So she either gets an ERQ or a WER.

Is it just me or is that last picture just weird? Her head looks huge, her arms look tiny and her body looks like it’s been shrunk. Photoshop is the devil

      • Donna Tabor

Most actors seem to have bigger than normal heads. It looks better on camera.

        • alyce1213

They do, it’s an amazing phenomenon.

        • Call me Bee

It’s because they are so thin. Lollipop heads on sticks. When I see local newspoeple around town, I am always struck by how tiny they are–this with big heads.

        • Denis

Yup. It’s true. It’s not just their tiny bodies causing an optical illusion, they really have giant heads. Especially TV actors. I’ll never forgot the first time I saw Debra Messing in person and though, “Jeebus her head is HUUUUGE.”

        • Nolan Chung

          Paul. Wesley.
In the words of Chandler Bing, “big head. big head. big head.”

        • Heather

Yup. Giadia de Laurentis (sp?) is a good example of the lollipop head phenomenon.

          • Donna Tabor

            Lea Michele, too.

        • okinawa_g

I saw Chris Pine in JFK, super biiiiig head!

          • random_poster

That comment took me somewhere I’m sure you didn’t mean for me to go.

            • okinawa_g

hahahahahahahah yeah, We all wish we could go there with Chris :p

    • hughman

If nothing else, her legs will be free from mosquito bites.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I want to bury my face in her hair. Is that creepy?

      • PlethoraofBooks

Really? Her hair irks me. It’s constantly in mermaid style and I twitch almost every time I see it.

        • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I’m Southern, I like big hair.

          • Funkykatt

I think her dark hair looked better

            • kmk05

I was going to post that that ombre effect looks really aging on her. Definitely prefer with with a darker mane. it is lush and Pantene-worthy, though! Looks soft and amazing/

            • sekushinonyanko

I remember her saying blonde is her natural hair color and she dyed it dark to look more like the standard idea of what a latina looks like. Based on pictures of her I’ve seen of her as a teen, I think this is either her natural color or extremely close to it.

            • kmk05

Huh. Never would have thought! I actually think if the colour were a bit warmer it would suit her more.

          • Heather

As a fellow Southerner I can appreciate largesse of hair, but this is a bit TOO much for me. The extensions and ombre coloring just scream ‘trying to hard to look 19′ to me. Girl, embrace your womanhood!

      • Diego!

        So do I!!! <3

      • hughman

From you, doll? Not in the least.

      • alyce1213

No. She has gorgeous, healthy hair. I covet.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

“Shiny” is way too weak of an adjective: it’s emitting its own light.

        • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

JLo was special wind. Sofia has special lightning.

      • demidaemon

Maybe a little. Can’t really blame you, though. Her hair always makes me want to touch it like a creepy stalker, too. It always looks so healthy.

    • fringebenefit

Love it. Usually hate that long/short affectation in a dress, but it’s all working here–and she is definitely werking it.

    • Diego!

I LOVE her hair!!!! Maybe because I’m losing mine :(

She looks stunning! Slutty shoes, yes, but she clearly deserves the WERQ label!

You WERQ that see through dress Sofia! Vamos!

    • alyce1213

No boobies! It’s good to change it up from time to time.

      • Shawn EH

She didn’t want to compete with what her boobs do in the film.

    • MilaXX

It’s as good as it get for the sheer skirt over mini look.

    • GSMSF

Her smile is exactly the same in each shot. She looks a little like a cartoon character, no?

      • Carla_Charlton

The more you look at her, the more cartoony she looks. I know she’s actually a beautiful woman, but I can’t help thinking that her va-va-voom styling and makeup causes her to have that cartoon look. I’ll bet that something a little more natural would show how gorgeous she is.

    • decormaven

Change is good! While no fan of sheer over mini, she is doing the look justice. That is one amazing mane of hair.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

      Sigh..
      She’s so pretty……

    • Jacquelyn

Someone someday is going to have to sit me down and explain how women walk in those shoes.

I really love her hair. A lot.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Speaking of Machete Kills, I just found out Danny Trejo is only 5’6″ tall. I would NEVER have guessed that, I though he was 6’7 or something. He must stand on a lot of boxes. Anyway, this is a minor departure, but the same hair, teeth and boobs effect we’ve come to know from her. Nothing *wrong* with it but…

    • DesertDweller79

Sigh, I just really hate the sheer over mini trend. The sheer anything trend, really.

Still, I love the bodice. She definitely looks great from mid-thigh up, as TLo say. Hope to see more like this from her in the future.

      • Introspective

god help me, if i never see a sheer maxi over a mini again id be such a happy kitten. or at least a little less bitter…

        • Celandine1

I will take a sheer maxi over a minI any day over a sheer maxi over freaken granny panties!

    • Trickytrisha

Wow, this is downright prim for her. Schoolmarm at the year-end banquet on the top, poolside slinky on the bottom. Those shoes aren’t quite sleazy enough for Ho-Town Gentleman’s club, but close.

    • Call me Bee

Yay–no cleavage and no booty! I love it. She looks much younger and thinner when not on display. She deserves encouragement for this, even with the sheer-over-mini. Baby steps.

    • nannypoo

I hate this. I wish she would just relax. She looked so beautiful the other day in that trench coat.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Credit for branching out, but I’m so over the cocker spaniel hair, even before it got blonder.

    • bertkeeter

It doesn’t work on Project Runway and it certainly doesn’t work here! Makeup jsu a tad to “gurlie” for her?

    • RedRaven617

I think with the lighter hair she looks like Denise Richards.

    • save_the_hobbit

Are you gonna do more of the Machete Kills red carpet? Alexa Vega and her fiance Carlos Pena Jr looked fine as hell.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i am so bored with black. i could never live in new york.

      • mlle

I want to claim the stereotype is untrue, but of course half my closet is black dresses.

    • colleenjanel

Is it just me, or is she looking alarmingly thin? Particularly in the last picture. When I think of her, I picture someone who is very curvaceous and voluptuous. She is neither of these things here. I hope it’s an illusion of the dress and the camera.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I almost like that dress, and it’s the first time I’ve given any kind of grudging, backhanded compliment to a “long sheer over mini/tap pants/body stocking”, EVER. Not a bad look for her.

    • Joey Melliza

      at least she’s not a mermaid…again

    • Fannie Wolston

The hair bugs, like silky long puppy ears in front. is she bald in back or what?

      • Heather

Dontcha know, celebrities are actually cardboard cutouts?

        • Fannie Wolston

yes! just like paper dolls, this one is near overplayed and worn out

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I normally hate the sheer over mini myself, but this one is less objectionable for some reason. And she really does look great in it.

    • Erica_Vuitton

I disagree, that IS a mermaid dress, just a sheer one. She’s the leader of the Benjamin Button club, seriously she looks 22 here. Aka jealous.

    • webslice33

      she looks great!

    • ThesisMonkey

      scrolldown disappointment

    • Beverly Kozma

I love the picture of the model. It almost looks as if she has no legs.

    • CeeQ

As you’ve said it before of La Nina – WHAT IS IT with Latinas and their hair?!? Gorgeous.

    • MannahattaMamma

      she’s a parody of herself. i suppose it’s deliberate?

    • JaCory Deon

She looks “good” but I really want to straighten that hair out, take off half of that makeup, and just tone her down. I know she’s playing “The Latina” but it’s just too much.
