Not sure I would have known who this was if you hadn’t told me. I’m getting Claire Danes in that last shot.

    • 3boysful

      I thought J-Jones.

    • Julie Parr

I totally thought the thumbnail was Claire Danes. Was about to write that but here, you’d just written it.

  • Cameron Diaz, age 50.

I like it? I love the texture of the top part, and the dress itself is just okay, but the styling is boring. Dislike the shoes and the purse and Rita needs to take her hand of her pocket!

  • Meg0GayGuys6

Minus the hand in the pocket (hello, Alanis!), I actually prefer this look to this morning’s KP WERQ. I know, I’m surprised too

  • rh33

    Toothpick capelet?

  • HM3

Dislike. This dress has FAR too many elements, from the fabric to the pleather to the feathers to the collar. It doesn’t help that we can’t see the rest of her hair (making it look, strangely, like outerwear with no clothing underneath). The clutch looks cheap, and the shoes belong on a flight attendant.

I propose a new critique category for TLo, to go with “Girl, That is Not Your Dress” and “WERQ:” how about, “What the Hell Was She Thinking?!”

    • HM3

Footnote: why do so many starlets look like they forgot to put on pants?? Please say this isn’t actually a thing now.

      • marlie

Unfortunately, pantslessness has been a thing for a while now. :/

        • teensmom99

This is hardly pantsless compared to what we generally see. It’s not even that short.

          • marlie

Oh – yeah. This is an actual dress. And it’s cute, to boot. (I wasn’t entirely clear in my comment…)

          • demidaemon

I’m not sure I agree with you on the cute part. It’s a little too furry for me.

        • altissima

YEs but its a woolly, furry, wintery dress, and the bare legs are dressed for spring

  • Stella Zawistowski

It’s just so HEAVY. Ugh. No.

  • alyce1213

She bugs me a lot, but I gotta say — she looks fantastic. It’s just the crazy, fun, editorial chic she needs.
Maybe even a WERQ (I never thought that would happen).

I like the laughing photographer behind her, he’s having fun.

  • marlie

I’m rather impressed at her transformation from relative-nobody to up-an-coming fashion risk-taker. She’s made to wear some of these wackier designer looks.

    • decormaven

Another vote for impressed. But I wish she could get with a better hair stylist. Her hair always appears overprocessed. Get her hair healthy, in a good cut/color, and she could really work these looks.

  • Erica_Vuitton

I thought it was Vanessa Hudgens (sp?)! ETA: I know it’s not, but it looks like it’s on backwards. Nope just.. no.

  • PeggyOC

Why so serious, Rita? (Which is to say from the neck up, she’s channeling The Joker.)

  • Imasewsure

I just love her. I don’t know why but this is fun (and very toned down for crazy Rita)

  • HM3

I wonder if we make fashion allowances for musicians which we dispel for actresses, despite the fact that they may have IDENTICAL figures, complexions, and body types. If Rita Ora wears this, it can be interpreted as funky and chic; if January Jones wore this (and yes, that’s the doppleg√§nger I’m going with in these pictures), we might recoil in horror.

Third post on the same conversation! I am FULL of opinions today, people! X^P

    • marlie

I don’t think it’s just the difference between musicians and actresses… it’s mostly personality and personal style. It would be laughable if Taylor Swift wore something like this because her personal style isn’t “dark and edge.” As for January Jones, I get the impression that she tries to be as far away from her most famous character as she can, and that’s how she ends up with edgier looks, and for some reason, it doesn’t always work for her.

Plus, there are a whole other factors to take into consideration, including the styling, makeup, accessories… they all need to work with whatever the vibe is, and sometimes JaJo (and other ladystars) miss the mark in that respect, too.

Go back a month or two and look at Lily Collins’ poledance for City of Bones. She did a really great job of switching up her look from appearance to appearance, and a LOT of it was in the styling.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

That’s an interesting question. I feel it might go back to what we expect – or see as the position – of musicians as opposed to actors. Well known singers or band members are seen as different kinds of artists than actors; they present – and represent -themselves through their music while actors by definition are supposed to serve the role they play. I think maybe we see actors as more malleable fashion-wise because we see them as being presented to us as part of something, while musicians are creating in what’s perceived as a more personal way, so there’s a certain flamboyance we expect to stem from that creativity.

However, I’m very far into a martini, so later this may be incomprehensible! ( hey, drinking with TLo and it’s not even Thursday! )

  • bellafigura1

She’s stepping it up and I’m liking her better for it! Her legs look fantastic with those shoes, I love them. Having said that, that … coat? Dress? Just such typical Chanel overstatement — I want to say to Lagerfeld, “Stop yelling, you got the job!”

  • MilaXX

I like everything but that bag

    • terpsichory

      I do too.

  • kittenwithaquip

For such a brief dress, it looks awfully heavy. And I think I like Rita better with her hair pulled back. Probably because then you can’t see how fried it is. She looked Uh-mazing in an “Elle” spread a few months ago: gorgeously classic with a ton of badass. Here she looks grubby and awkward, which I doubt is what one is shooting for when clad in head-to-toe Chanel.

  • Jessica Freeman

That “dress” looks like it weighs 30 pounds. No, all of it is a no.

  • kirkyo

I actually love this look on her, but maybe I’m just surprised it isn’t completely hideous. Really cute shoes too.

  • Loola234

She sort of looks like a vampire in the last shot…not sure why…

  • sagecreek

My first thought was, “no way is it that cold in Paris”, but then I noticed all the jackets on the photogs.

It’s still a bit heavy, but I like it so much better as a dress than paired with pants, as in the model photos.

  • antheapena

I think she’s a fab glam-puss & I love the outfit except the collar is eating her hair

  • kmk05

This required boots and not posing with your hand in your pocket, ruining the line of the coat. I love the sleek hair ans the red lip, though!

  • LipstickForPigs

    OMG. I like this. It’s like I don’t even know me anymore…

  • kimmeister

I like her shoes, and that’s about it.

  • formerlyAnon

Half my brain likes this immensely, half is recoiling in horror at the mounting evidence that ’80s trends are going to have us in their clutches yet again. They’ve been gaining ground faster and faster these last couple of years.

  • Trisha26

    Gorgeous. Love this silhouette!

  • ojosazules

It looks like she’s being eaten by a suitcase.

  • demidaemon

  • Jacquelyn

Kinda looks like the coat was attacked by a bird.

  • H2olovngrl

I feel like her outfit loses the high end impact the way she is wearing it.

  • kathrineb

Eh its fine I guess. Not my bag but worthy of looking at.

  • oohsparkley!

January Jones has never looked more chic.

  • Fannie Wolston

    channeling Gwen!

    I love it, want it!

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

    Lovely! Love the shoes!
