Reese Witherspoon in Antonio Berardi at The Pirch Store Launch

Posted on October 21, 2013

We’re not sure what sort of alchemy is causing this to happen – because we’d never really credit her with having enough innate style to make us love something we’re not inclined to love – but for some reason, an “Attagirl” escaped our lips when we saw these pics.

Reese Witherspoon attends The Pirch store launch in Glendale, California in an Antonio Berardi dresss paired with Manolo Blahniks pumps.

Really, the top half is almost non-existent and the bottom half looks like upholstery fabric, when you get right down to it. But for some reason, this works for her.  It’s very simple, and just on the border of ladies-who-lunch, but the pops of color really look great on her and besides, L-W-L is not just in her wheelhouse; it is her wheelhouse. She looks stylish, chic and like herself, which is more than enough.

I like it, the seam on the front seems like an odd choice, but I like it.

  • Well, look who is off probation, paid her fines and is allowed, out of parking lots, and back onto a red carpet!
You’re right, she looks lovely -and freakishly young- but this is crying out for a long chain, a beautiful ring, or a substantial earring. Why have all the jewelers packed up their wares and disappeared for parts unknown?

    • SouthernGirlRena

Now you are singing my song Annabelle. I so miss necklaces. Maybe that is what everyone in Hollywood are mourning. Fun jewelry.

    • makeityourself

The jewelers are definitely around. It’s the stars and their stylists who have eschewed the bejeweled look.

I work in the fine jewelry business and if I were Ms Witherspoon’s personal jeweler, I would advise she wear a substantial earring every time the opportunity presented itself. It encourages the viewer’s eye to move back and forth across her face whereas now the focus is centered right on her chin. Enough said there.

I often show my clients who have narrow faces how to make them appear wider by wearing the correct earring, or how the correct length of a necklace draws the eye up or down.

Maybe not exactly a red carpet. What’s the going rate these days for attending a store launch in Glendale?

      • Oh shit. That’s funny. I didn’t catch the location. Maybe parking lots ate level one, launches ate level two, charity functions are level three, and if she can get through all of that without a single “Don’t you know who I am?!?”, they’ll let her back on the RC.

Is she still repping for Avon? While I’m not calling for her to wear its jewelry line, you think she would go for more jewelry, especially with this simple look.

  • isapaiva

I’d never noticed it before, but she looks a lot like Amy Poehler.

  • gabbilevy

Doesn’t look like a particularly difficult dress to wear, but she’s making it work.

  • Her eyes look amazing with the colours in the skirt…

  • hughman

    I almost didn’t recognize her without a big-ass purse.

    • nannypoo

And she’s not walking in a parking lot.

  • Miss WKS

You know what I think is amazing?….she still has her own teeth and hasn’t traded them for the ubiquitous Hollywood Chicklet smile….

  • alyce1213

It’s safe, but it gets the job done.

  • charlotte

She doesn’t age, does she? Still looking like her 90s movies self.

    • largishbearishAtlish

I found myself thinking ‘this is the Reece I originally liked’ (ala Legally Blonde I)

      • charlotte

And yet she is apparently old enough to have a teenage daughter.

    • marlie

I thought she was channeling Tracy Flick here.

    • She looks fantastic, right? Her face is so fresh and luminous.

    • FeminineLipstique

My first thought was, “She looks super young here! Is she promoting Cruel Intentions?”

  • neonseattle

not a big fan of her WASPy mom style, but she looks beautiful here. her makeup is so youthful and glowing. she looks just as she did 10-15 years ago.

  • Flavia Pantoja

I am not sure i like this enough. It seems to be lacking something, a little charm somewhere… And I wish she had a little bit of colot on her face. The whole thing is just a tad bland to me.

  • filmcricket

She has a talent for cocktail dresses. Her split-from-Phillippe victory lap featured a lot of them that were pretty much perfect. This isn’t as great as those were, but it’s cute, and she’s that rare wee lady who usually gets her proportions right.

  • Trickytrisha

Since I’m a big fan of beautifully done, textured “upholstery” type fabric, I find this dress to be pretty darned stellar. It looks fabulous on her. She’s fresh looking, the messy hair works, the makeup is minimal. Actually everything is minimal except for the dress, which lets it be the hero.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Her hair seems a tiny little bit darker than her usual country girl blonde, and I approve.

  • OH OH OH, if you’re into the gossipy side of things, there is a new candid pic of the Witherspoon family walking in a parking lot (of course) in which she is fiercely charging ahead of the group. Her mini-me daughter is talking on her cell and has the new baby brother slung on her hip, and Reece’s exactly busy mom scowl. It is DIVINE!!

    • SouthernGirlRena

I just Google Imaged it and holy cow, mini-me daughter is right. She looks cloned!

  • MilaXX

Is that black velvet on top of peacock brocade? This dress is hers and hers alone.

  • I want to have bitchy brunch with judgements with her.

  • largishbearishAtlish

    but….but…where is the parking lot??

  • E. D.

I like everything except that it needs *some* lip color.

  • Diego!

I like it, but she needs some red lips to contrast that skirt. She looks kinda washed out in the make up department.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

The top looks a little bunchy and thick around her girls, but overall it’s a lovely little dress and she looks great in it!

  • jw_ny

vamping up the hair and makeup and this would’a really sung!

I really like the skirt fabric/colors….dislike the center seam. It looks like the skirt is on sideways.

  • sagecreek

Go, Reese! So glad you can rock something besides the parking lot shtick.

  • kat89

I HATE that front seam. Seriously, for what that skirt is selling for, they couldn’t cut it out of one piece of fabric? It’s a pretty basic skirt. The front seam makes it look cheap.

  • formerlyAnon

Oh Reese, you saucy little over-acheiving control freak, you. Done good, girl.

  • marlie

I’m not loving this. The bodice looks kind of poorly, and it makes her top look too wide. I really like the fabric on the skirt, though. And I wish her makeup had some color… somewhere.

  • amber.

she looks soft & chic. i love it.

  • quiltrx

The bodice is kind of weird, but I like the idea of this.

  • it’s super flattering, and the print gives a subtle peacock impression. Perfect.

  • sleepycat

Eh, I don’t like it. It reminds me a 90s dress and when I can pin something as 90s, it screams it. (Mostly conscious during the second term of Clinton as I was still a little kid (although technically I was born under the tail end of Reagan’s second term.)

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Perfection! I know there’s a lack of jewelry, but even if she had any, you would need just the bare minimum with the print and shimmery-ness of that skirt.

  • Heather

The skirt fabric is very similar to the fabric I’m considering for the re-upholstering of my wing chair.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She looks beautiful, stylish and healthy!!! Excellent. And now for something completely different that I WILL NOT elaborate on, but I’m just so happy I have to shout it out: THANK YOU JESUS THAT I’M HEALTHY!!! 🙂

    • broke&fashionable

Whatever it is, congrats! A few scares with my parents over the past few years has taught me that nothing matters without your health. Not even celeb-wear or NYFW.

  • Danielle

The seam down the front is killing me.

  • Joanna

I like her hair – it’s a bit darker than I’m used to seeing from her, and I think it really works for her.

  • julnyes

I want a bit more drama on the face and some chunky jewels, but that would be me in that dress and not Ms. Witherspoon.
