Olivia Wilde in Cushnie et Ochs at the 2013 IWMF Courage in Journalism Awards

This would appear to be the quintessential Olivia Wilde dress; so well suited to her you’d think it was custom-made.

Olivia Wilde attends the 2013 IWMF Courage in Journalism Awards Ceremony in Beverly Hills in a Cushnie et Ochs floral dress paired with a Clelia clutch, a Stephen Webster cuff, and Jimmy Choo pumps.

Sleek, chic and understated defines her wheelhouse and this dress fits the bill. And while we think a relatively admirable job of pulling the colors out of the dress through the accessories was done here, it was ultimately the wrong choice. She’s got great bone structure and eyes so striking they border on alarming, but she has the kind of coloring that calls for some color in her clothing and accessories. When it’s all as underplayed as it is here, something gets lost. We think we might accept the shoes if the clutch had some personality and color to it. We also think matching the eyeshadow wasn’t a great idea here, either. She needs color on her face to make it pop. Also, the hair’s too limp and unstyled.

Don’t get us wrong; it’s a good look for her. Ultimately, all our bitching comes down to two simple things: a little more color and a little more zhuzhing.
