Miu Miu Spring 2014 Collection

Posted on October 03, 2013

Nobody does that jolie laide thing in fashion better than Miuccia Prada. In a lot of ways, this collection almost felt like a restating of a mission statement for the brand. Not that it ever ventured far from its Brady-girl-on-acid aesthetic but some of these whimsical, deliberately awkward looks are almost iconic in their representation of the quirky, singular Miu Miu point of view. As always, for any real sense of the pieces, you need to do a lot of mental editing. But we love the colors and the all-around ironically prim feel of the looks. The coats in particular are gorgeous.

I’m sure I don’t want to know how much the first KITTY CAT COAT!!! costs, but that doesn’t make me want it any less.

      • tereliz

I know. I’m a grown ass woman but as soon as I saw that coat I made grabby hands and yelled MINE!

If money were no object I’d take one of those, one of the blue tropical fish, the lilac floral, the pink snakeskin, the (powder blue? or is is lilac) patent leather, the suede, the black velvet, the red wool…

    • Denise

Dibs on all those coats! I saw this collection and just knew you guys would feature it. If only I was a millionaire…sigh…

      • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

You’ll have them over my dead body, girl. I want ALL the kitty coats here *sigh*

      • conniemd

I want a whole closet full of those coats in different colors. The scrunchy dresses, meh, but those coats are just so fun and I would feel so totally cool walking around in one of them.

    • http://www.avclub.com/users/genevieve-koski,4300/ Genevieve Koski

I’ll take one in every color of those coats with the piping on the pockets, please.

    • Becca

Oh my god that cat coat – 11th photo down…I need it right meow!

    • lobsterlen

Is it wrong of me to crave those kitty cat embroidered lace up boots? There is no where in my life that I could wear those boots but they sure would make me happy just to look at them everyday.

      • conniemd

Yes, as one of those crazy cat ladies, I agree. Put cats on clothes and you have a ready market.

    • Inspector_Gidget

Love most of this! Takes real talent to make bitchface look fun.

    • hughman

See, j’adore this. I love that you could see this from a block away and say “oh yeah, Miu Miu.” It’s not kow-towing to some “sheer” trend shit, it’s always staying true and grounded to its artsy-fartsy, kooky younger sister to Prada thing.

    • decormaven

Those coats… le sigh. Not so much a fan of the beading on the last looks.

    • Winter_White

Some of these boots and coats give me the same covetous buzz I get when I look at Kate Hudson in Almost Famous.

    • MilaXX

I’ll take that pink & burgundy coat and all the bags.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Gonna cat fight you for the bags.

        • MilaXX

Just not the ones we’ve been seeing today.

    • miscorrections

I must acquire all of the outerwear IMMEDIATELY.

    • Tanya Wade

The cat coat is making me want to sell plasma to get it. I love this entire collection, and the windblown lock of hair with the heavy lipgloss is the perfect little touch.

      • tereliz

I thought that the hair was kind of distracting (focus-pulling, I guess) at first, because I hate it when that happens to me, but that’s just from the stills. I’m sure in the actual runway show it helped to give the girls a more outdoorsy, breezy spring day vibe.

    • mmebam

      Adorkable!

    • Jacquelyn

I think imma need some of them coats.

    • Henry Maler

      SO. MUCH. COAT. PORN.

      • hughman

Tonight I read this as “SO. MUCH. GOAT. PORN.” To which I was like, “ummm, huh. I never saw that.”

    • sagecreek

      The coats ARE gorgeous.

As to the rest? I stick by my mantra: If it makes a model look fat? STAY AWAY.

    • frannyprof

Love it all, except for the ruched dresses. The prints and color are fab.

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Love the tights, all the flat shoes and boots, the ice-cream colored leather skirts and wool a-lines, and pretty much all of the coats. Elle Fanning is gonna be all over this, I’m hoping she wears the ruched velvet spaghetti-strap dress with a good strong face full of makeup.

      • kimmeister

I just hope oversized tights aren’t a thing this season (or ever).

        • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Ooooh, I hadn’t considered that. I just thought it was that sag crochet tights get sometimes when you’ve been wearing them.

    • Evan

Much better than the Prada collection

      • Imasewsure

Maybe not better but much more to my taste than that extravaganza!

    • mjude

I will take everyone of those coats, thank you.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

      sigh. these are great coats.

    • Kirstin McAulay

Love this… all of it…. especially the tights!

    • boweryboy

Jolie laide Marcia Brady on acid is a pefect descriptor for this collection. The coats are a tad bit on the 70s literal side, but overall it’s a fun explosion of color, texture, print, and pattern that I love about Muicca’s designs.

    • jilly_d

lovely coats, but was there a strong northerly wind in the tent? because all that hair stuck in lip gloss looks ridiculous.

      • kimmeister

Reason #1 why I dislike lip gloss!

    • PastryGoddess

Those coats would be perfect NOW. I’ll take one of each.

I’m also a sucker for patterned colored tights. so YAY!

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Me too. They are almost impossible to find for a larger girl though. Apparently we only wear black opaques.

        • PastryGoddess

          say what! That’s crazy talk.

My go to look is to layer patterned fishnets over colored tights. You can do black for a more dramatic look, but grey is great for a more subtle effect.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

            I love that look!

    • Suzanne Moore

The coats are TDF, even the cat coat. I had one just like the red with the black collar in 1967. But the remainder of the collection I just don’t get. The beading on the final skirt is fugly. Can you imagine sitting in it, though?

    • somebody blonde

This whole collection is great except for the two wrinkly minidresses, which look totally cheap and WTF-inducing.

    • BrooklynBomber

I really need those first few coats and the red suit. I don’t care if I’m too old. I NEED THEM. NOW.

    • Diego!

What a fun, cheerful and stunning collection! It’s incredible! It really is. Congrats Prada!!!

    • Linda LaPaz

Those coats are TDF! And the kitty cat coat wins the Internet.Everyone can go home.

    • SophieCollier

This is the best collection in years, IMHO.

    • vitaminC

Love everything except the Chinese lantern party dresses. Ain’t nobody ever gonna look good in one of those.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I’ve never been tights wearer, but this makes me rethink my feelings. Also up for reconsideration is my stance on clothes with cats on them, because I am putting my first born up for sale on eBay for the kitty coat. “Brady girl on acid”, indeed!

    • Trickytrisha

Pretty much everything here has me in a happy trance. After so many blech collections lately, THIS is a masterclass. Could do without the knee high boots though; they look dated. Some of the looks are a tad unappealing – are those vinyl skirts or really shiny leather? Love the knit stockings… at least when they stay pulled up on the model. After all the raves here about the coats, I can’t add anything but “Ditto”.

      • demidaemon

Hey, vinyl is perfect for either your sex worker needs or if you are prone to spilling food on your lap. Easy clean-up! Just a wipe down and you are ready to go! Don’t knock it.

        • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Who says fashion can’t be practical?

    • rage_on_the_page

      Loooooove.

    • d4divine

I’ll take all the coats without animals on them. Thank you!!

    • DominoEstella

I love it but how is this Spring?

    • demidaemon

I feel like I just had an acid trip—in a good way. This one of the best collections featured here this season. I pretty much universally love it. And, and, for once, the styling is actually accentuating the clothing, not detracting from it.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i love the color combinations- viridian with lavender and cadmium yellow. and i want to see someone famous in that cat coat STAT.

    • quiltrx

Whether the tights are intentionally baggy or not, they look pretty awful. They’re actually distracting from the overall looks.
But, Miu Miu? Congrats on the coat porn…awesome!

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

ok, T and Lo. miuccia is obviously on to you naming your cat after her, and she made that first kitty coat just for you. i dare one of you to wear it!

    • save_the_hobbit

      I. NEED. THE. CAT. COATS.

    • RoseJB

Dreamy. These girls look like they own a really hip vintage shop and score all of the best pieces for themselves.

    • Toby Wollin

The faces on the jacket and the last coat are a nod to Schiaparelli from the 30s, I think.

    • ankali

I had a hard time getting through this collection because I have a visceral, horrible reaction to tights that bag at the ankle — the tactile equivalent of nails on a chalkboard for me.

I’m glad I powered through, though, because GODDAMN those are some awesomely adorable and adorably awesome coats. I am quite seriously considering what I’d need to cut out of my budget to get the kitty cat, fish, or floral coat (the one in the thumbnail).

    • SewingSiren

Now those are some looks a crazy cat lady can get behind. I personally love them.

    • Constant Cat

Love the dresses with the fringe. Like non-scary Yvonne Todd models/thrifting, cept new in the kaleidoscope 60′s sort of party way. I’ve been listening to Tame Impala and going through the psychedelia kickidity kick and these clothes go with it. Me wants the aesthetic REAL bad in my life.

    • IRVN

      Those coats and boots! lurve!

    • ItsDicey

      Oh God, the coats!

    • Betsy

Marcie in a coat of flowers

    • sunflower

Drooling over the coats and leather skirts! Not a fan of the ruched 80s prom dresses

    • Nicole Little

      LOVE

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

Killer coats and the boots look so cool! I’d love to see what the heel is like on those lace up numbers

    • MaggieMae

LOVE. Inspired fabrics AND designs. Hullo originality! Color! Not a sheer skirt in sight. Brava!

    • Erica_Vuitton

Ohhh those coats!!!!! And the lace up boots!!! And the cable-knit tights!!! I want I want I want!!!

    • ThesisMonkey

GIVE ME ALL OF THE COATS

    • DeTrop

What’s the cut-off age for wearing cable-knit tights? (I know, if you have to ask, don’t).
Love the boots. It’s nice to see coats with personality all their own.

    • omg_dora

How is this a spring collection?! It’s all wool and leather and coats!

      Lovely, lovely coats.

    • Jeanettesca

Love the coats and the colorful boots. The baggy tights are awful though.

    • kolokOlchik

Oh GOD those coats are gorgeous!

    • guest2visits

Love the whimsy of several coats and those 2 fringy coat-like dresses. But the rest is intense dislike.

    • Stephanie Archie

I just want to know….can a 40 something fat woman wear Miu Miu? Would that be weird? Because I Love this collection!
