Michael Fassbender for ELLE UK Magazine

Posted on October 30, 2013

These pics are (more than) a little light on style, but the roster is a little light on boys today and we just can’t bear our kittens going long without an XY fix.

Michael Fassbender covers the December 2013 issue of ELLE UK magazine photographed by David Bailey.

On his looks: “I’ve never really thought of myself as good-looking. I think of myself as, you know, all right. I used to have bad acne as a teenager, so all of this is a bonus now, the fact that I don’t have pimples anymore. And my hair was also, you know, unfortunate. I had really long hair. I mean, I tied it back most of the time, but I had all these frizzy bits coming off the top, and whenever I let the hair down, it went like this [indicates big, bushy frizz].”

On being approached by more women since becoming famous: “I’m not oblivious to it. It’s not like I think I’ve become more charming or good-looking overnight. But, no, I haven’t lost any respect [for women]. I’m an all right judge of character, so you can figure these things out.”

He’s lucky he’s cute, because he appears to be 100 percent un-style-able. Messy hair, 2 days’ growth, and a t-shirt are about as good as it gets with him.

Oh, he’s in for SUCH a shock when he hits the wall at 45. Our glee is unseemly, we know.

That is some seriously shitty lighting.

oh bull-friggin-shit. he beat an ex so badly an ovarian cyst burst.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

That knowledge always prevents my ovaries from bursting.

      • SuzBald

Wow, I’ve never heard that. Yikes.

      • marlie

That’s why I always find it so hard to consider him attractive. Sure, he has all the right “parts,” but the #1 thing is personality and character in my book, and in that respect, he’s lacking.

      • MilaXX

I’d heard some shady thing happened in his past, Never knew details.

      • Tatiana Luján

        he what????

      • NYCGlamourpuss

*GASP!* Holy shit. He’s not my type, so I don’t find him attractive, but I do know he’s a huge current sex-symbol. Always disappointing to hear that about someone, whether they’re attractive or not.

      • Rabblerouser

Hallie, you surely know that’s untrue, right? And yes, dear, I know about the nearly 4-year-old allegations brought by an ex, nearly a year after they split–allegations investigated (by local law enforcement), and not even resulting in an arrest, much less in charges and a trial. No, it’s not “racism” (if you’re one of the Chris Brown defenders who spreads this shit), nor does it make you a feminist to believe uncritically anything that has been discredited by investigation, just because a woman says it (and you’re not helping genuine victims of abuse, either). This is slander, pure and simple.

        • Hallie

          Hi there–

First off, there’s absolutely no reason for you to be as needlessly hostile as you are in responding to me.

Which scenario do you think is more likely– Michael Fassbender returning to a woman who publicly accused him of DV, or an abused woman returning to her abuser due to the cycle of abuse rearing its nasty head? Factor in people like you who assume she is lying and I think you’ll find the scales have suddenly tipped against Mr Fassbender’s favor.

I’d recommend looking up statistics on how many cases of DV are successfully brought to trial or even how often charges are filed before attempting to lecture me on what I do and do not know, and what I do or do not do for feminism and victims of DV.

          • Numenah

I am quite familiar with the statistics to which you allude. Without any reputable sources to back up your insinuations, they remain slanderous.

          • Mynameispeaches

There are always going to be apologists for abusers, especially if the abuser is a good looking, charming Hollywood actor. You are correct it’s pretty normal for abuse victims to return to their abuser, refuse to make or drop chargers.

However, I can not rationalise why an up and coming actor who has worked so hard to get where he is would risk his career to spend time with a woman who has accused him of domestic violence. These DV allegations could have destroyed his career.

      • JasmineAM

Is there a source on this? I just looked it up and I came up with this:

“From the Irish Sunday Mail investigation:

‘Regarding the case on Fassbender, LA county Steve Cooley continued the investigation after Andrew’s charges were dropped. Two unnamed witnesses were interviewed by victim services of LA county. DA. Cooley concluded, no evidence appeared in statute to require any investigation against the German born-Irish actor. The actor gave a ICO.8 statement and no charges were filed. ”

I’m not saying ignore the claims of an allegedly abused woman, but this whole situation seems a bit fishy to me. Surely if it were true, the media would be all over it. Your comment seems incredibly slanderous.
The Jezebel-type feminists seem to believe any kind of DV accusations.

        • SassieCassy

this is turning into a really ugly convo. lets go back to talking about how he needs sunscreen.

      • ShaoLinKitten

So I looked this up and just fell down a rabbit hole of famous actors who are alleged to have committed, or who have been convicted of, abusive acts on partners: Sean Penn (knew about that one), Nicolas Cage, Sean Bean, Sean Connery (also already knew), Mel Gibson, Alec Baldwin, Josh Brolin, Bill Murray, Mickey Rourke, Matthew Fox, Charlie Sheen (we all knew), and Gary Oldman (who was cleared of all charges). This list contains several of my faves. Will be doing more reading on this and probably getting more depressed.

    • Aidan B

These are probably the worst photos I’ve seen of him. Not that he looks bad, he just usually looks MUCH better.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

The design for this cover looks like something anyone could do in Nitro PDF.

    • amanda siegelson

      SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but that isn’t for the subject, but the photographer! oh david bailey, swoon!

    • JR Labrador

“Oh, he’s in for SUCH a shock when he hits the wall at 45. Our glee is unseemly, we know.”

I’m predicting bad plugs and a lot of ManSpanx in his future.

    • sojourneryouth

I don’t know what I think of this man. Sometimes I see him and think he’s smoking hot, other times, I think he’s more average and notice that he isn’t aging particularly well. I do like his acting, though.

This shoot is a bit rough. I can see every pore.

    • jen

I don’t believe for a minute he doesn’t think he’s good looking. Sigh. I shouldn’t read these things, and should just admire the view.

    • lunchcoma

These are not good pictures. He may be hard to style, but it’s easy enough to light him so he looks gorgeous. Thumbs down to whoever arranged this photo shoot.

I have no patience with the comments about his looks he’s been making recently. A decade ago he was cast as eye candy on a terrible teen show called Hex. If he didn’t realize he was attractive as a teenager (I’ll allow that most teens feel awkward and many are), he should have figured it out then. The comments about being a good judge of character and respecting women aren’t the wisest either. I haven’t drawn many conclusions about what happened in his past relationship, but whichever conclusion is reached, only one of those things can be true.

He’s a wonderful actor, but I think he should only be allowed to speak when he’s reading things other people have written for him.

    • filmcricket

Since seeing 12 Years a Slave I can’t find him attractive anymore. In the beard, and in close-up, he looked disturbingly like Joaquin Phoenix, whom I find really not-attractive.

    • MilaXX

Really dislike the cover shot, the inside one is just okay.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

“Oh, he’s in for SUCH a shock when he hits the wall at 45.”

      Something to look forward to!

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

It must be hard to style a man who everyone just wants to see naked *sigh*

    • ewes_urn_aim

You mean he’s not 45 already?

      • NYCGlamourpuss

I would absolutely have pegged him for 45 at the very least.

      • Sobaika

Take a look at pictures from 3, 4 years ago. He’s very attractive but he’s NOT aging the best.

      • lunchcoma

        Don’t smoke, kids.

      • Matthew Davie

Ditto. Color me shocked to learn he’s in his mid-30s.

    • vitaminC

I thought he WAS 45… turns out he’s only two years older than I am! For my baby face, thanks, sunscreen! For Fassbender… yikes. He’s headed toward old shoe territory fast.

      • HobbitGirl

Yeah, when he hits an old-Robert Redford it’s going to be a sad day.

    • Irish Rodriguez Reyes

Ugh! Same shit, different day. What’s wrong with making a man look prim and proper?

    • crash1212

I love the jacket in the second panel. LOVE IT. Lapels are SO over-rated. Don’t know who made it, but I want it right now.

    • Superannualted

Hey Guys! You let me down. That’s a classy collar-less sport coat he’s wearing. Who is the designer? Inquiring minds need to know.

    • conniemd

He looks like he’s growing into Hugh Laurie.

    • boweryboy

I’m glad he thinks he’s all right looking because that’s been my opinion of him since he’s first popped onto the scene.

    • alyce1213

I acknowledge that he’s a certain type of good looking, but I find him smarmy.

    • Numenah

The Sean penn case is irrelevant to this one. Also, please be aware that that the Daily Mail is not a credible source.

    • jmorino08

That looks more like a TIME magazine cover than ELLE!

    • Corsetmaker

I really like these. It’s the most Irish I’ve seen him looking :D He has personality here. But really, I much prefer the starkly lit, pores and all approach over the glossed and airbrushed. And well…. David Bailey!

    • Trickytrisha

Love that second jacket, too bad it’s not in color. He’s pretty much a “generic looking guy” which helps him melt into various roles. He’s certainly gotten some prime gigs recently.

    • Kent Roby

The fact that he is not a “pretty boy” is a huge asset to his career. And, yeah, his other huge asset doesn’t hurt his career, either. I’ve been intrigued by his acting, but this is a really weak “fashion” shoot.

    • http://piblet.tumblr.com/ Anastasia

If you open the magazine and lay it flat on the table, it reads “ASSBENDER.” Elle got the spacing a little off!

    • algaechick

In the second picture, he looks like he’s morphing into Bradley Cooper. Not the early-career-adorably-cute Alias roommate of Jennifer Garner Bradley Cooper, but the can’t-get-the-look-right movie star Bradley Cooper.
