Maria Menounos in Marchesa at the 2013 Oceana’s Partners Awards Gala

Posted on October 31, 2013

We’re not the types to automatically associate white gowns with weddings, but we admit, we’re having a tough time with this one.

Maria Menounos attends the 2013 Oceana’s Partners Awards Gala in Beverly Hills, California in Marchesa.

Marchesa Resort 2014 Collection

And shoulder roses are just plain weird. And the sleeve length is awkward. Put on a bangle or something, honey.

But the back is nice and we like the earrings. We don’t know… we can’t seem to work up much enthusiasm either way; like or dislike. Which is odd, because it’s usually not hard to form opinions on Marchesa gowns. This one seems too timid somehow.

This dress had some potential but then Marchesa had to go and Marchesa it up with the molting shoulders. It almost makes me angry.

      • hughman

“Molting Shoulders” is my new band name.

        • madscntst

It’s a shampoo that causes dandruff.

    • RussellH88

I think this dress would work on someone with a much darker skin tone. It would pop more and create some interest, which might get ride of the overall feeling of bridal. Lupita Nyong’o and a big chunky bangle could work, I think.

    • SewingSiren

Save for the cowl in the back, I pretty much love it. Even the weirdness of roses on the sleeve caps. Maybe especially that. And double plus extra points for the absolute perfect non-show super smooth underwear.

    • oklund

Sleeve length, nail polish, and moulting upper arms all look super awkward. Without that, this would be passable. Lovely earrings.

    • Ginger

I actually really like the dress, but she seriously needs some color in the accessories.

    • Sobaika

Molting sleeves are just not my thing.

    • conniemd

I’m trying to figure out what happened to her right boob. Real titscrepancy as it seems to have gotten smooshed off to the side on the front view and the left boob looks puckery big.

    • Fyolette

the illusion of giant upper arms, JUST the thing that I want from my dress

    • International Model

Those earrings are arresting me and are refusing to read me my rights.

    • hughman

When Doves Cry. She managed to make a blah dress somnambulistic.

    • AmeliaEve

It’s the Pippa Middleton dress, turned backwards.

      • Shannon Beamer

With optional rose shoulder pads. But yes, I think you hit the nail on the head.

    • mjude

      tiny little cake topper

    • mmebam

The rose epaulettes are making me twitchy.

I never thought the phrase “rose epaulettes” would escape my lips. But there we go.

    • Sandisan

      BLERGH. Tight and boring.

    • crash1212

Pretty earrings. Nice made-up. That’s all I got.

    • NDC_IPCentral

How does this fit into a “Resort” collection? Man, the designers should forgo that outdated nomenclature – since what they crank out rarely bears any resemblance to Spring, Resort, Fall or “PRE-some season” (which is beyond stupid) – and just say Marchesa Collection Month and Year.

This does have a strong wedding vibe, and I am no fan of a puddling hem, especially with white fabric. Seems like a lot of money to spend to Swiffer the floor…..

      • hughman

“Puddling Hem” is my new drag name.

        • NDC_IPCentral

Be my guest, hughman, but do try to live up to the trip-and-fall potential, won’t you?

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I like the earrings very much. The dress? Well, it is Marchesa. Of course.

    • Rand Ortega

    • annabelle archer

Prettiest swan at the costume ball.

    • Tatiana Luján

I think she looks lovely, but yes, the sleeve lenght is weird.

    • JauntyJohn

The back is a lovely, classic line. The rest… meh.

She certainly has the figure for it though.

Also: She got an A+ in Pageant School Smile Class. Talk about a smile that doesn’t reach the eyes… yikes!

      • Sarah

        C- on Smizing.

    • SugarSnap108

Are the shoulder roses made of feathers, or are those roses with a dusting of feathers underneath? I can’t believe I just asked that question.

    • MoHub

So I looked at the dress before I read the caption and thought it screamed Marchesa. And of course, I found out it was. Stylistically, Marchesa has the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

      • alyce1213

And for Marchesa, this IS subtle.

    • veronicafish

That frippery looks like it was attached with a glue gun. Why, Marchesa? WHY?!

    • Imasewsure

Yes it’s not awful just not great either

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

No on the dress, but she can pass the earrings on over.

    • lunchcoma

I don’t really see the weddingness of it. Wedding dresses make me think of either simple sophistication or bigass princess gowns. This is just…sort of bland. Don’t hate it, don’t love it, and would feel sorry for anyone who chose to wear it to her wedding.

    • Janet B

Does she have a hanky stuffed in her right sleeve?

    • MilaXX

It reads Modern Bride to me and the earrings are her “something blue”.

    • boweryboy

It’s like an unfinished Marchesa gown. They accidentally showed her the rack of dresses headed to the gewgaw and foofaraw studio.

      • Jackie4g

Not to mention flounces and furbelows.

        • alyce1213

          Winner winner winner – furbelows!

    • NoveltyRocker

The sleeves look like they have extra lining material pushing out from inside, I don’t get it.

    • Erica Woods Tucker

Boring..mostly because of the person who’s wearing it.

    • marlie

The dress is fine, but it’s definitely bridal. And the accessories/styling doesn’t help to downplay that effect.

    • decormaven

“Shoulder roses, shoulder roses, oh how real those roses seem to be…”

    • ThaliaMenninger

These days, if it has sleeves, it’s more Snow Queen than Bride. But this one is boring and the sleeve nonsense is just silly.

    • kimmeister

Uh . . . her eyelashes look very pretty.

    • melanie0866

She looks… crooked, somehow. This is very unforgiving fabric.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

The back is gorgeous. It is a shame because the rest of the dress is bad ideas and bad design. Even without the shoulder froo froo, there is something off about the silhouette and fit and cut that I can’t put my finger on. Maybe how it drapes, maybe how it’s so tight in front.

    • bertkeeter

Forget about bridal…how about just a dated cliche dress with feathers n stuff on shoulder?

    • Aurumgirl

      Up a size, please.

    • sleah_in_norcal

with those feathers on at the shoulders, it must be a vegas wedding. love ther earrings, though. i wonder if those are huge opals. hope so.

    • quiltrx

Initial impression was a great fit…then I got a better look at all that lumpiness in the shoulders-to-under-boobs area, and all those drawing lines across the belly. Not so much.

    • Cognitive.Dissonance

The dress should take a color cue from the earrings … they’re gorge.

    • not applicable

      Bridal. And annoying.

    • Danielle

It’s a white Marchesa gown. How could anyone equate it with something other than bridal?

    • MannahattaMamma

it’s like she’s got small moulting birds on her shoulders

    • Kikishua

It couldn’t be a wedding dress. It has sleeves.
