Krysten Ritter in Katie Ermilio at the Van Cleef & Arpels Exhibit

Posted on October 28, 2013

Sweetie, we’re going to have to ask you to turn around and go home. Our delicate constitutions can’t take this:

Krysten Ritter attends A Quest for Beauty: The Art Of Van Cleef & Arpels Exhibit in a Katie Ermilio sleeveless silk crop top and box pleat swing skirt paired with Rupert Sanderson heels and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.

Katie Ermilio Spring 2014 Collection

And besides, you’ll thank us later.

Yeah… that’s just weird, girl. And bad. Bad color, bad fabric, bad shapes. Plus it looks like you’re about to walk right out of your shoes. Kudos for trying to sell it so hard, but we don’t really believe you love this.

Do you?

  • Did I just open TLo post or a vintage Sassy from 1996?

    • I would sell a child to get my original stack of Sassys back.

      • Bridget Smith

Your own child, or someone else’s? 😉

      • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

        I miss Sassy.

      • futurenicole

Not to brag, but I saved all of mine. I went to a 90s party last year and that was my accessory (to go with a flannet top and tights under jean shorts).

        • Which of my children would you like? The seven year old likes to vacuum, but the youngest is damn cute. No one really wants teenagers. Your pick.

  • theblondette

OMG, DIYed prom dress project gone wrooooong.

    • leahpapa

True story: my sister wore that dress – that EXACT DRESS – to her junior prom in the late ’90s.

  • Repurposed bride’s maid dress. Hiddy.

  • LipstickForPigs

Top resembles a tote bag, and the bottom a lamp shade. There has to be better options for a willowy brunette.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

There has to be a better option for anybody!

  • MilaXX

At a different venue I might like this with the shorts. Still, this is a “NO”

  • crash1212

I don’t hate this outfit. I think she looks especially weird in it because she’s standing like a dork and her hair is just AWFUL. The color isn’t great on her. I think this is a GTNYD type of deal. Also, that style of shoe should be burned.

    • AnneElliot

Aren’t those the same shoes that Camilla Belle is wearing in the next post? Both pairs belong in a bonfire.

And the second model’s posture is hurting my eyes. STAND UP STRAIGHT, DAMMIT!!

    • Stella Zawistowski

Yeah, I know I should hate it, but I don’t. Not that I LOVE it, but I…don’t hate it?

      • megohd

I actually think I like it. I don’t know — her face looks so gorgeous. I don’t typically like her style but for some reason this is appealing to me.

        • Aurumgirl

It’s because the colour is superb. But the dress itself is a big fat mistake, exposed midriff included.

          • Rhonda Shore

I’d say the opposite, the color is awful, and in black this might have worked or at least been passable.

  • Bokharitt Kinantahz

    Fade out city.

  • Alias Seudónimo

She should also do something about those hairy arms.

    • Bridget Smith

Or, you know, continue to be a dark-haired human.

      • Alias Seudónimo

        manscaping doesn’t hurt anybody

        • ShaoLinKitten

She is not a man, and women don’t need to be hairless.

          • Alias Seudónimo

why do you think I used the word mansacaping? she’s hairier than me. Don’t mind me, I’m just probably jealous of her hairy body

          • ShaoLinKitten

Well, at least you admit you have some kind of problem.

    • MilaXX

Don’t we as women, pluck and shave enough?

    • porcupie

      Wow, aren’t you The Worst?

    • little_miss_strange

Stop projecting your own sexual insecurities onto others. She’s fine. Not even that much hair, that’s just like the normal human female amount of arm hair. Women are not mannequins. We have hair. So sad when people just can’t deal with that.

  • kimmeister

Whoa, that thing is giving her crazy proportions, like an upside-down lollipop or something.

The bracelet, however, is all kinds of adorable.

  • Imasewsure

What’s with all this Barbie sh*t today lately? YUCK

    • marlie

      Even the Barbie poses.

  • kirkyo

Apparently that fabric does not work IRL.

  • pookiesmom

Egads! This is another unspeakably horrible getup. Send this to the pit of despair, along with Anne Hathaway’s atrocity from earlier today. Both women would be better in potato sacks, IMO.

    • greymain

      pit of despair….LOVE it!

  • tereliz

This outfit looks like a delicate constitution. Ergh.

Krysten, There’s a reason they didn’t pair that top with the skirt. And even if they did, it certainly wouldn’t be that long. I don’t even know what to call that hem-length.Too short for maxi, too long for tea. Love that color, though.

  • Lori

Dang. That looks like a sad attempt at repurposing a bad bridesmaid’s dress. Just write-it off as the cost of friendship and move on.

  • hughman

Violet Beauregarde hits the RC after Willy Wonka had her stretched back to size.

    • cocohall

Yes! I was getting an Alice in Wonderland moment where she nibbles something after she fell down the rabbit hole, and grows like a hot house flower. This is giving her slightly unhuman proportions – like she was stretched and reshaped. It makes her swan like neck too long and her legs look too stumpy.

  • DominoEstella

I like it and I love the jewelry.

  • ShaoLinKitten

Bridesmaid’s dress for a wedding in a bordello?

  • greymain

What’s with all the REALLY big heads on REALLY tiny women ???? I am so over this.

  • MK03

    Luckless in Lavender Barbie.

  • schadenfreudelicious

See, you really can wear that bridesmaid dress again…

  • Little_Olive

Apparently, neither can her delicate constitution.

  • The look is Project Runway reject.

  • Blair Sylvester

the shocking part is that she picked the better components of each look. Although I would have loved to see her in those shorts and bra. Also I think events should start having backup dresses (like the restaurants that have a handful of jackets for people that dont own one) and handing them out to people who have so missed the mark

    • In_Stitches

Just a long line of stretchy Herve Leger bandage dresses; one size fits most.

      • Blair Sylvester

I was thinking more like two sizes fit almost all, maybe just little black dresses with little embroidered “A”s for assery.

  • ashtangajunkie

Oh boy, do I hate this. The colour, the shape, the shoes, the hairstyle. She’s pretty, but this is not.

  • demidaemon

This is the very definition of a schmatta. And, yet, still weirdly infantilizing. I feel dirty looking at this. Please go home Kristen, yell at whoever convinced you this was a good idea, and then make a cleansing bonfire out of these pieces. PLEASE!

  • marlie

SO much about this is wrong, so I’ll just say “NO.”

However, I kind of like the color. That’s about the only thing.

  • girlsaturday

My first reaction was ‘oh god, it’s the prom dress from 10 Things I Hate About You’…which also sums up all of my feelings about this outfit.

  • formerlyAnon

Dear god. Look at what a slim, elongated, clothes horse body she has. And then she dressed in what? A cross between a bad P.E. uniform and a bad prom dress, with a bit of toddler sunsuit thrown in? In lavender?

    • marlie

      “Toddler sunsuit.” *snort*

  • Jacob Bowen

I LOVE both of the versions on the model but on her it looks like a weird purple harness paired with a large AWFUL skirt that I think my 5 year old cousin would love. AND then she pairs it with my 5 year old cousins butterfly bracelet. PLUS, she looks SO stiff and uncomfortable in the 1st picture!

  • Trickytrisha

I love lavender. I hate this. She just looks bizarre. Nice bling though. (is anyone still saying “bling”?)

  • SophieCollier

That is reaaaalllly making her look distorted. Very strange outfit.

  • Sarah

The steaming made a huge difference on the models. I mean, I don’t condone this, because it’s not for her or her body, but if it was smooth like the model pics it would at least look like it wasn’t DIY.

    • marlie

It sort of sucks that the skirt is hanging so limply on Krysten. I don’t know if steaming would fix that, but it would look considerably better.

  • guest2visits

She’s such a beauty; love the fabric, the color, yet this 2 piece prom dress isn’t working at all.

  • jabes

That color makes her look dead. And does she have an unusually long neck, or is it just the angle in these pictures?

  • lunchcoma

Girl, that’s not anybody’s dress. Doesn’t even look good on the models.

  • quiltrx

Urgh! She looks like her top half and bottom half belong to two different cheap-Barbie-knockoff dolls.
And “cropped” and “dropped” (waist) do NOT go together just because they rhyme!
Send the skirt to Miss Dita, who will know what to do with it and what to wear it with.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

That is such a difficult color to wear, and that skirt is hurting my eyes. The top and skirt, to me, are accentuating her very slim figure in an unflattering way-as if the skirt is slipping down her body.

  • rondele

“…sleeveless silk crop top” does not work for me. It’s pretty in the back, but it seems too casual for that skirt, which at that length seems like a more formal skirt. The color washes her out somehow, and she needs a different lip color.

  • Somehow this combo manages to make HER look lavender. Not a good thing.

  • not applicable

    I just love her tho…

  • CommentsByKatie

She looks awful. This is awful put it away ugh. Ugh! I can’t even look at it long enough to tell what went wrong.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Sometimes the simplest response is the best.

    Gurl, no.

  • Fannie Wolston

cool tom boyish look, needs a funky ballerina slipper and elbow length gloves

  • lilazander

FUG as hell! What is that thing?

  • lobsterlen

Everything you said plus the damn thing is horribly wrinkled like it had been bunched up in a ball at the bottom of her closet.

  • SewingSiren

I’m going to swim up stream against the tide and say I love the skirt, especially on someone like her with a teeny tiny waist. But I would have paired it with a long sleeve black boat neck top. The shoes are huge and unforgivable. A black ballet flat would have been perfect.

  • She’s such a striking beauty, but here she looks like Blandy McBlanderson.

  • MoHub

I know the waistband of the skirt is fitted right, but it still looks as if the skirt has fallen from its proper place. And she needs to invest in a steam iron for whoever maintains her clothes.

  • decormaven

Pity. At least she got to wear a stunner of a bracelet.

  • Crystal

Why is it so shiny and weird?

  • boweryboy

I could be on board with this look if she threw on a black leather motorcycle jacket. motorcycle boots, and motorcylce cap like the supermodels did in that iconic Peter Lindbergh editorial. Then I could say, “Oh you kids and your ’90s retro. How cute.”

As it is, it’s a big ole hot mess.

  • deathandthestrawberry

    I miss her bangs.

  • Danielle

    Textbook scrolldown fug. Shame.

  • JP

Uhm, has she been eating AT ALL since her show got cancelled? Seriously, walking skeleton.

  • E. D.

Worst scroll-down FUG in a while. I think it’s a great color on her though. In warmer weather.

  • Bethany Fairbrother

It reminds me of a bad brides maid outfit I was required to wear.

  • Chase

It looks like she made it in home ec class out of her older sister’s old prom dress.

  • FionaTF

She looks like Alice after she ate the cake or drank the liquid or whatever made her get all stretched out.
