Kate Beckinsale in Donna Karan at the 2013 Pink Party

Posted on October 21, 2013

You never know what dress is going to become The Dress of the celebrity season, but two versions of this Donna Karan dress are making a go of it. Jennifer Hudson and Kim Kardashian both wore the fall 2013 versions of it last week and Miss Kate is rocking the resort collection version of it this week:

Kate Beckinsale attends the 2013 Pink Party Benefiting Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Program in a Donna Karan dress paired with a Jimmy Choo clutch and Casadei sandals.

Not exactly the same dress but close enough to say that this type of dress is having a moment. Gotta say, we love it much more in a rich color like this, rather than the grey version J Hud & K Kard wore last week. Then again, we’re so primed for any color on the red carpet that we’d praise anything. But no, we really like this on her. The shoes and the black accents really bring it up to glam. We think she could lose one or two of those bangles/cuffs, though. And we’re not super-crazy about the hair. But it’s a glamorous, head-turning look, well put-together. Can’t argue with that too much.

Looks beachy to me, which is odd in October.

      • carlaaxtman

Also, the way she’s standing makes it look like she hasn’t had a chance to pee all day.

    • Nikko Viquiera

      WERQs for me!!!

    • MoHub

I can’t look at that hemline any more. I just looks like a sewing error.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I love it. It reminds me of the iconic DVF wrap dress, but updated – they’re both classics, both would look good in a multitude of colors, both would look good on women of different shapes and sizes. Good stuff!

    • MilaXX

If this is this season’s “IT” dress I am totally okay with it. Like a lot of Donna Karan’s stuff it’s very wearable for a variety of body types. The fact that it comes in more than one color make me happy as well.

      • Leah Elzinga

that’s it. It totally reminds of some of her jersey dresses from her very first collections! I can’t remember where or why but I recall watching a doc on her about her dressing for all women and this is such a great echo back to that original statement. It’s nice to see a designer going back to what they know and do so well.

        • Rhonda Shore

i’m glad it’s red and not pink!

        • suzinrva

I had a DK front wrap bodysuit and sarong skirt from way, way, way back that when combined looked very similar to this. I love that she still creates figure friendly clothes.

    • TonyGo

I like everything except the Petticoat Junction wiglet.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She looks great. The hair is not good.

    • gabbilevy

I wish she’d move away from that teased ponytail/hairpiece look. It feels so dated. Like, but not love, the dress on her.

      • Introspective

literally her hair spirit animal seems to be Karen from Will and Grace. which is never a good thing. ever.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I want shoulder pads in it for my Dynasty experience.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Gorgeous. Love it in the red. So, if I ask her really sweetly, do you think Kate will be my girlfriend, ‘cuz I’ve been crushing on her super hard for many years now.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Cannot wait for knock offs of this dress!

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

        In a washable fabric!

    • ChaCha_70

      That is one gorgeous profile.

    • Tatiana Luján

I like everything, except the hair, it looks dated (and borrowed).

    • Clueless_Jock

      Halston snaps.

    • teensmom99

Oh, it’s meant to be loose & flow. Now I get it. Well done!

      • Lori

Exactly. This looks much better on her, not because she’s thinner but because she’s wearing the right size, which allows the dress to do what it’s supposed to do.

      • marlie

But it’s the kind of dress that could still look stunning if it’s a little more fitted, provided the ladystar wearing it has the right foundation garments.

        • teensmom99

Sorry I have to disagree. That’s why it didn’t work for Jennifer Hudson. I couldn’t figure out why DK had designed something like that when I saw it on Hudson, but now I get it. And as Lori noted, it’s not about being thin, it’s about wearing the right size. Of course good foundation garments are a good thing!

    • Diego!

I LUV HUH!!! She looks stunning! I love the whole look, but I agree on the hair. Maybe a flat ponytail would have been better. But she looks gorgeous! :)

    • marlie

I like this! I think this dress looks best on Kate here, so far, although JHud is a close second. I love the color, and I like the way it fits and flatters Kate’s figure. I LOVE the accessories, especially the shoes, though I agree that she could lose one of the bracelets. The hair is a touch 70s without being too costume-y, which works with this dress.

    • Adrianna Grężak

This is a dress that celebrates a woman’s body in a tasteful way.

    • RussellH88

If Jennifer had worn this version of the dress, it would have looked amazing.

      It’s a great dress, it’s effortless chic.

    • lobsterlen

Lovely. Love the color on her. Now this where I sound old….. the dress looks like it would be very comfortable to wear.

    • Nazzzy

      Love it!

    • ashtangajunkie

Love this dress. Not loving the bangles, but the overall look is sharp.

    • Imasewsure

Love the color on her but I don’t like this dress at all. 0/3 for me. She came closest though

    • DTLAFamilies

      Awkward length, no?

    • Lilithcat

No. It looks like a bathrobe.

    • bizarro

Her hair looks like she has a banana clip under all of that hair and hairspray. I rocked this same look in the 80’s but with bangs.

    • 3boysful

This may be the first pair of Casadei shoes that I like. (I want to dislike them on principle anyway for the goofy spelling.)

    • Trickytrisha

I’m not crazy about this, on her or on JHud or that other person. The draping is rather clumsy and the hem is just wonky. She’s lovely though.

    • cocohall

It looks odd to me that the hem is nearly reaching the ankle straps of the shoes. Hem this up about 3-4 inches and the proportions are much better. But honestly, that face. She is stunning. And the color (any color, really, but this one in particular) is fabulous. And girl knows she is looking good. In a confident, at easy with herself, way. Go Kate!

    • oklund

This looks super hot to me! The hair, the face, the dress, the shoes, even the cuffs – all stellar. Time to go stare longingly into my closet for a while.

    • Aidan B

This is giving me life!! The hair, the color, the fit, all gorgeous

    • Dagney

The pose kind of ruins it for me. Love the dress, Love the shoes. Love the hair. Love the Studio 54-ish vibe. HATE the “I’m a little girl who has to go make pee pee,” pose. Destruction.

    • DeTrop

Red looks smashing on brunettes. Good for Kate.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I love it, the color, the fit, the draping – everything. Even the hair. I’m a sucker for a sexy, messy ponytail.

    • BrooklynBomber

I’m still always flummoxed by how she turned into such a glamour girl. I feel like the Kate Beckinsale of, say, “Serendipity,” was Kate.1 and this is Kate.2S (yes, with Siri).

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

This the one of the nicest looks I’ve seen her in of late. Attagirl!

    • SinisterKid

No one does a high pony like Ms Kate.

    • JauntyJohn

It is absolutely a case of the color making the look, not the dress. The eye loves the color on her so much that the design details hardly register.

    • Snailstsichr

The fact that you showed Jennifer and Kate in this dress, but not the K woman, is one reason why I love you guys.

      • Fannie Wolston

I wish they never even mentioned her name here!

    • Lily-Rygh

The overall look is lovely and at least sort of glamorous, but I just can’t deal with how crazy the lines are around her hips. It just looks like a bit too much for me, I guess…

    • ThaliaMenninger

The color is beautiful. The wrap at the middle is not my favorite thing, however.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

      I like her hair.

    • bertkeeter

      That’s a WERG! Sleek, retro 90’s modern …sexy shoe!

    • Claudia

      She’s so purty!

    • Miranda

She is so disgustingly pretty! Hate her! (but love her)

ok…that model did absolutely NOTHING for the dress. Kate put it to use!

    • EEKstl

She’s flirting with a WERQ for me on this one. Love the dress, it’s perfect for her, and shoes, purse and mani/pedi are spot-on.

    • Danielle

She looks slammin’ in this color.

    • ampg

I do wish she had applied the double-sided tape in a slightly more natural-looking way, because it messes with the neckline a bit, but that’s such a minor quibble. The color is amazing.

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

      Love! WERQ!!!

    • decormaven

While I loves me some jewelry, that’s a bangle too many. Also, the black mani is a little too match-y with the accessories to my liking. But I love the color of this dress- fierce!
