IN or OUT: Julianna Margulies in Michael Kors at the Golden Heart Awards

Posted on October 18, 2013

We don’t know, you guys…

Our first reaction was gay-claps, but the longer we look at it, the less we like it.

Julianna Margulies attends God’s Love We Deliver 2013 Golden Heart Awards Celebration at Spring Studios in New York City in a Michael kors white tuxedo paired with Harry Winston jewelry.

Michael Kors Resort 2014 Collection

Our  love of a crisp ladysuit with pants is well documented and our constant bitching about the funeral dresses everyone’s been wearing lately has us primed to love this simply for being bright (if not colorful). But the tuxedo stripe on the pants makes this look a little like a cruise ship uniform or something. And we’re not loving the proportions of the small, fitted jacket with the feet-swallowing, flared pant legs. And the neckline’s weird. And the hair’s unflattering. And the earrings don’t really go.

Are we cranky? Or is this a really … off look?

Vote Now!

IN! You’re cranky!

OUT! All-you-can-eat Sundae Bar in the Lido room at 2 pm, passengers!

The kittens were not so bitter toward Rita Wilson’s pop art gown, voting it IN.

  • Courtenay P

IN. where can I get one of those?

  • The thing is I am pretty determined to hate this because of what Michael Kors did to Jennifer Hudson. And the hems are atrocious and I refuse to get behind this trend. On the other hand, from head to waist she looks amazing. In, but I’m not totally feeling it.

    • Rand Ortega

LOL! “The enemy of your outfit is my enemy”?

  • mmolleur

    Fountainbleu Miami 1968

    • Introspective

but does this make it in or out for you? it totally does it for me. i love the retro feel of this look head to toe. plus ive wanted a white pantsuit for about forever. so here for this!

    • Kristin McNamara

Agree. She’s too young to be dressing like this…. Pack this up and ship it off to Ellen Barkin, pronto.

    • Grown up Annette Funicello? But in a good way. IN.

  • ovarB

  • Justine

    IN. What a beautiful suit.

  • NBG

IN. You’re cranky. It was clearly a long night for you guys. Go have a latte and maybe treat yourselves to a biscotti. You’ll feel better.

  • Kathy Monkman

OUT esp because of the earrings.

  • Diego!

IN, she looks like a #DiscoQueen and looks also gorgeous!

  • BazoDee

You gentlemen are cranky. I see your points but on another day I think you would call them minor quibbles.

  • tixilyttik

It’s Ricky’s track suit from Trailer Park Boys!

    • Rand Ortega

Yay! My Saskatchewan girlie & I just watched a TPB marathon with a Corner Gas nightcap. Love those rural Canadian shows!

  • marlie

IN, IN, IN!! I love this. I love the suit, and I think her hair is perfect for the look. Her makeup is pretty, though she’s looking a little like Famke Janssen a bit.

  • LongTall_Sally

IN! I don’t love the topknot but that suit is super sharp.

  • sagecreek

OUT. Or, thank you for flying Polar Airlines, watch your step.

    • TLJezebel

      Buh bye.

  • nannypoo

Her hair looks silly, and she wimped on the cleavage by showing us her bra, which I think is even worse.

    • sagecreek

The hair is really bad. All I can think of is Flo from the progressive ads.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Or Flo from “Alice”. “Mel, kiss ma grits!”

    • Rhonda Shore

OUT. She does look like she works in the service sector, but the styling might really be what’s off here. BUt yes, her hair looks silly and the peeping bra…earrings…et al.

  • BrooklynBomber

It’s not bad enough be out, so I suppose it’s in. But the racing stripe is too much for this outfit, and it feels played out. And I completely agree about the hair and the earrings. But despite all that, she looks very sharp.

    • Yes, this. I dislike the racing stripe but overall the look is still pretty sharp. In.

  • Kristobel

IN IN IN. I don’t love the hair, but that suit is KILLA and she looks amazing. Have some cake, crankypants. 🙂

  • Julie Chase

    In, she’s sharp.

  • White suits are Miss J’s realm (see: Snakes on a Plane).

  • jw_ny

my first reaction was Real Houswives of NJ …looked again, had the same reaction. I think it’s the hair, earrings and makeup mostly.

    • Dixie_Sugarbaker

Agree! She looks like Teresa when she appeared in federal court; not a look any star should follow.

  • Alexis Peñafuerte Wenceslao

IN. Loving this look on her

  • Rand Ortega

I love me some Ladypants, but this really is a skosh too “Julie, Your Cruise Director”. The decolletage is lovely. HATE the bunhead.

  • carnush

I don’t love it, but still IN. She’s pulling it off.

  • bellafigura1

Big IN, and lusting after it, head to toe (to sit in my closet next to Michelle Pfeiffer’s McQueen from the other day) I think her decolletage, especially, is lovely. The hair is a tiny bit tight for me, but I think it works with the suit.

  • anyalama

    Totally cruise ship. OUT.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I don’t like the hair, and I think that she went a bit overboard with the jewelry for such a sharp suit. I hate to say it, but it’s an OUT for me.

  • teensmom99

Out. Kaspar for Joan Leslie at Loehmanns. & how can pants be too long for Margulies?

    • bellafigura1

Hahaha, I don’t agree, but love the references.

  • Mary Lauer

And what’s with the shiny faces of late? Her and Diana Agronn as well …

  • hughman

It’s a pantsuit that DESPERATELY wants to be a tuxedo.

“PLEASSSSEE!! I just want to be like the grownups, Mom!”

  • kipper

Seems to age her, just a little bit – but I really like it

  • IN – You’re cranky. She’s rocking the shit outta this.

  • MaggieMae

OUT. Leans towards looking dated rather than modern.

  • mommyca

    IN, but I can’t support the hair…

  • aeb1986

IN. My biggest issue is the hair and makeup. If scroll down so I can only see the outfit, I think she’s rockin it

  • stellamaris73

IN – if the pants were hemmed properly. I can live with the stripe (although I’d prefer it without) and think her hair and makeup are mostly quite cute.

  • amanda siegelson

i think it’s pretty ‘fashionable grandma of 1967’. so, in general – a ‘no’ from me.

  • random_poster

IN. It looks tons better on Julianna than on the model. I think it’s chic, despite the minor quibbles.

  • Imasewsure

Not bad enough for an out but I’m not loving a lot of this. Still IN for being different and because I love the jacket and top (and it’s not black and it’s lady pants)

  • lexilexi

  • Tracy Walker

I like it all except the hair – takes it to a costumey place.

  • another_laura

Nope. It’s Saturday Night Fever and I refuse to catch it.

    • Tatiana Luján

      with Miss USA hair.

  • decormaven

Out. The stripe on the pants gives me eye twitch, and the hair is pulled back too tightly.

  • altalinda

In. The hem could be a wee bit higher, but other than that it all looks pretty good here.

  • broke&fashionable

Is that a shirt underneath or her bra? That might explain the “janky” (love you Tim) neckline. Though if it is a bra I think that it doesn’t feel intentional enough to work.

  • TobiannReinhard

IN!!!!! From (not-quite-right) head to (hidden) toe!!

  • neofashionista

  • alyce1213

Out. It’s not so much the suit — I hate big buns and I cannot lie.
Maybe it would be better with her hair down, less uniformy.

  • Ashleigh

I think you’re being cranky…sorry, but the jacket seems a little loosey goosey

  • Qitkat

OUT. She is one of my favorites, but the hair and earrings are from the wrong century.
And I think you’re right, this is a uniform, a fancy hostess on the Love Boat.

  • Kelly

Out. The outfit itself does resemble a waiter’s uniform or at least one of those 1970s-style tuxes (minus the ruffled pastel shirt, thankfully). And the hair is giving me painful flashbacks to the ugliest of ’60s beehives. Retro in a bad way.

  • RussellH88

I love it. I think she looks great.

  • tereliz

    LOVE the suit.

    HATE the styling.

Totally disregarding the fact that everyone thinks Rachel Zoe is the Moses of trouser-hem lengths, I find myself longing for some edge like the tusk/horn collar necklace the model is wearing. Margulies is gorgeous but the styling is aging her. Sleek pony, spikier earrings, a blingier minaudiere and lipstick in an actual color would really help here.

  • Krysta

  • Lori

In. Obviously not perfect by any means (hem those pants and get rid of that hairstyle for crap’s sake), but I like the suit and think she’s wearing it well. Plus it’s pants and not all black. I’m giving it to her.

  • JauntyJohn

In – but only because it’s not “off” enough to be out.

  • rissa42210

Okay – I think that the hair isn’t flattering, the flare of the pants is tragic, and the earrings don’t go. But, overall, I think that it’s working more than it’s not working. It’s not a win, but just barely IN.

  • MilaXX

OUT! I’d like it more if the jacket was more fitted and she wasn’t wearing a shirt underneath. I don’t like the earrings with this. I think the look calls for a black earring, not a sparkly dangle. Don’t like the naked sandal with this look either.

  • Jangle57

I’m going to give her an IN because the only thing that I really despise is her hair – though I do REALLY despise it

  • Bexxx

True story: One of my good friends who I lived with up until this past May is Julianna’s niece. Sometimes, while she slept at night, I would drink her blood, hoping to get some of Julianna’s anti-aging magic.

Okay, only part of that story is true.

    • Bexxx

Also, I give this an IN. It needs some tweaks for sure, but the idea of this look is pretty chic.

  • Clueless_Jock

    Julie McCoy snaps.

  • knittermom

In. She’s playing with a retro look (60’s) while keeping it updated and modern; I don’t mind the black trim on pants, it is why it doesn’t look like a cruise ship hostess outfit.

  • rebeemoon

In! And the hair . . . At first, I hated it. But the more I gazed at it, the more it seemed to “fun up” the look, giving it a sort of campy mod/disco vibe.

  • IN. The jacket is in need of fitting, and the hem is droopy, but she is WORKING it.

  • Alexandra Pimenta

What’s off for me is the FACE. Not that she isn’t beautiful. Quite the contrary. But, boy, if she isn’t crossing some Renee Zellweger territory….

Actually, the hair is a little off too.

  • MannahattaMamma

She is the hostess at the Dew Drop Inn & Lodge, circa 1978. In, like, Des Moines. Or Peoria. And I’m from the midwest, so I get to mock. Those are my (over-coiffed) people.

  • jilly_d

IN! I quibble with the pant hem, but love the rest without reserve. I was hoping you guys would feature this look and was not disappointed!

  • rh33

Add a ruffle shirt and we have Prom 1972. Sorry, out.

  • mmebam

  • YoungSally

I think it’s a nice suit — but the wide pant stripe on white somehow gives a Sue Sylvester/Adidas vibe.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

IN…and I love the hair. (I know I might be alone on that but I don’t mind. Me and myself get along pretty well.)

    • sagecreek

I don’t like the hair, but I like your attitude 🙂

  • justineyy

IN. She looks sharp/disco fab and I love her make up!

  • melanie0866

    OUT. Band director.

  • Scimommy

    In. Looks sharp.

  • vitaminC

The jacket is nice, but man does this look age her. Maybe it’s the hair (if that is indeed hair and not some kind of avant-garde fur hat). She squeaks by with an IN only because it’s not an LBD.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I really can’t with the Karen Walker updo.

    • jw_ny

      that”s it! lmao!

    • Garcia Loca

I thought Megan Mullally too! But I actually love it. I need more Karen Walker in my life.

    • Tatiana Luján

Karen Walker’s hairdo was much better, but thanks for reminding us of her.

  • Belvane

She wears such stunning stuff on The Good Wife. I’d love to see you do a style recap of her gorgeous costumes.

  • IN. My only quibble is that the wide-legged pants do not complement the tiny jacket. A pair of straight legged trousers would have sealed the deal.

    She looks gorgeous.

  • MoreShoes

  • az67

    IN. Love her so much.

  • Kate4queen

In she just about pulls it off. 🙂

  • Coleen

OUT. When your first reaction to a thumbnail is “Rita Wilson’s had some work done,” it can’t be anything BUT an Out.

  • ashtangajunkie

IN. Minor quibbles – mostly that I don’t like the earrings with it – but she looks pretty chic.

  • Lorelei_D

IN! You have officially crossed the line into too-pickyville. She’s spectacular.

  • Garcia Loca

IN! I like it a lot.

  • Chuck Barthelme

In for the tux, out for the hair, makeup and jewelry.

  • Shawn EH

In! She brings just the right amount of crazy, without going the bondage route of the model. I’d say she’s serving up rich bitch all the way! She’s having a Hayek moment.

  • la_fwee

Remember that episode of the Brady Bunch where the kids formed a band called The Silver Platters? This suit looks like their outfits.

“Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on, dancin’ on through the night. Gotta keep on, keep on, keep on movin’. Gotta keep on, keep on, keep on groovin.”

  • Out. For just those reasons, boys. I can call you boys because, well, I’m older than you.

  • jen

The pants need hemming but IN. I love her hair and she looks happy and confident.

  • Stella Zawistowski

Shorten the pants hem and lose the ’90s bride hair and this would be a total win for me. As it is, I’m still erring on the side of IN.

  • Laura Livingston

Kors has gotten very Sears & Roebuck lately. Not good. Out and Julie the Captain is looking for you.

  • Myra Amler

Out. Jacket is not well-fitted and those pants make her look like she should be taking drink orders.

  • Anna Vasquez

IN. If you’re wondering whether she’s wearing it wrong, just imagine it on Debra Messing… ill-fitted… messy hair… too much eye make-up… That’s wrong.

Now look at Julianna. Perfect fit. Lovely make-up. Sleek but not severe hair (I’m sorry, Uncle TLo, I think the hair is great). If this is a cruise ship look, buy me a ticket and pour me a drink while I sing the “Love Boat” theme.

  • IN! sharp as shit. i want.

  • ringthing

I’m totally biased because I love her on The Good Wife so even though I don’t like her hair I’m still voting IN.

  • i_heart_tom_and_lorenzo

    IN. IN. IN.

  • crash1212

IN. Only the hair is bugging me.

  • lobsterlen

In. I do feel the hair is throwing the look off.

  • DTLAFamilies

That hair is pure Fran Drescher in The Nanny.

  • TAGinMO

I’m liking everything but the hair. IN.

  • kimmeister

IN! Love the suit, no holds barred. My biggest complaint is the lack of a shirt. It just looks like she’s highlighting her underwires.

  • Tatiana Luján

the only reason for wearing a fake hair updo is to hold a crown.

  • lalahartma

    Yeah, no.

  • Adriana_Paula

I’m with you on the earrings, but aside from that, I like it a lot!

  • Suzanne Moore

The stripe on the pants immediately reminded me of my high school band uniform! Still, she looks fantastical. Not sure about the hair, though.

  • IN, for sure. The hair has a definite beauty pageant vibe but she looks memorable, happy, and comfortable. Can I give you guys a bottle of wine to have with dinner? Maybe it will make you less cranky. I recommend a Barolo, nicely aged.

  • sunflower

IN but I don’t like the hair

  • slizzy

Love it. Fun. Don’t love the hair, though.

  • Nazzzy

    IN! She’s fab!

  • formerlyAnon

Out. If there were less cleavage it would be the bleeding edge hippest flight attendant’s uniform of 1974.

  • Trickytrisha

IN because she’s always impeccable… except when she’s slightly less so, as she is here. TLo’s comments are well made, especially the length of the jacket, but my biggest quibble is the too heavy eye makeup. About the pants length… hey, you can see feet, unlike some of the recent ladystars.

  • traceyishere

Chic, chic, chic and more chic.

  • Daisy Walker

The fit on the jacket could be better, but I still love it. IN!

  • Tigerfly

OUT. You may be cranky, but you are also correct. It screams “Love Boat”.

  • maretha2

IN! It’s not a look for everyone, but I think she looks fantastic.

  • lundibleu

I’m going to say IN because she looks happy and smiley, and that’s never a bad thing for Julianna. However, the hemline is too low, and a tux stripe of black on white does look very marching band uniform. Would suggest in a colour with the tux stripe a different shade of same colour, it’d be different.

  • Hey girl, put your shirt on!

  • trisker

IN. I don’t blame you for being cranky! But she looks amazing.

  • velomango

In – she looks happy, for one thing. The earrings and dramatic hair zhuzh it up, and overall, it’s a classy, fashionable look. Plus, I kinda dig the bra cups peeking out – sexy, without having to worry about boob tape.

  • lesmaha

I truly love J. M., but have to go with an out. Don’t like the hair or the too-pink makeup, and the pantsuit is meh.

  • LaSylphide

The problem is: any pants with any stripe down the side, and you’re going to look like a doorman, even if your bra is showing. Out.

  • Laurie Landry

Looks like an UnCurvy Fergie. Sorry, that’s all I’ve got.

  • pop_top

I keep seeing Saturday Night Fever.

  • putacorkinit

In. And she wears it better than the model who, with that choker, looks like she just died in an auto-erotic asphyxiation.

  • quiltrx

IN because she looks great, BUT…

  • carpediva

  • Bittybis

    OUT. Fran Drescher

  • JulieK

Did y’all give up carbs again? This is an IN. I’m ignoring the hair. The suit is fab.

  • lizajane1776

Out. I hate the pants-hemmed-all-the-way-to-the-floor thing. And her longline bra showing through the blazer front? No, thanks. If she just stood there, looking pretty, it would be OK, but that smirking, side-eye view? Honey, stand up straight.

Gee, maybe I meant to say OUT!

  • Levedi

    John Travolta. Out.

  • H2olovngrl

I disagree wholeheartedly about the hair. Stunning and unecpected. Plus I think the pantsuit actually looks pretty chic and sharp. OR maybe I can never think of anything bad to say about her cuz she is made of awesome.

  • OpinionatedMtnGirl

OUT due to the pants stripe, the lack of an appropriate camisole/undershirt and the “hairdo” that looks like a pre-done extension bun was just attached to her head

  • sleepycat

OUT. She really does look like a the lifestyle director on a cruise ship

  • samo_samo

    In…all put together it works.

  • jangma

In! And not just because the stripe on the leg is giving me Kill Bill vibes.

  • unbornfawn

A pretty good look, but I’m going to call it an OUT. Don’t like the hem on the pants. And the the bra is bugging me. It looks like one of my cheap bits of engineering, not anything very pretty.

  • I almost like it. The runway version is better. The jacket is too loose. The stripe looks athletic.

The giant cinnamon roll on her head ruins everything. A small knot or pony at the nape of the neck, pulled tightly, would be perfect.

Save the earrings for belly dancing class.

  • Tarquin

Serving up “Teresa Giudice on her way to court” realness

  • kmk05

It’s her shiny face and the hair that bring this entire look down.

  • yesknopemaybe

  • StarburstLady

I give it an IN. There are details I would want to see changed (hair, width of pants) but they’re minor, and this is pretty different for red carpet.

  • Aurumgirl

I am just so glad she didn’t wear this with the bigass cornetto-adorned dog collar that’s plaguing the model. It’s pretty hard for her not to look amazing, but that stripe down the pant legs does turn the suit into a fast food restaurant uniform.

  • pookiesmom

  • Erin Schubert Needham

IN. I think she looks fantastic.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

It’s almost great. I hate the hem, but I really like everything up top. Maybe in a gorgeous jewel-tone?

  • WhiteOprah

I hate when pants totally obscure the foot, but that fabric is amazing! I love the way it drapes. I’m just glad she didn’t go with the jewelry on the model which looks like a dangling, black jalapeno.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Saturday Night Fever, Night Fever, we know how to do it… Gimme that night fever, night fever, we know how to show it… Yeah, no. OUT, Julianna. White poly suits went out in 1978.

  • It does miss the mark, but it’s still good enough for an IN.

  • no. lady doctor attending a mandatory benefit.

  • shayna61

The hair and earrings are hideous, but the suit is gorgeous and she’s totally rockin’ it, so it’s an IN from me.

  • largishbearishAtlish

OUT. the make up alone (shiny! oooh) Love Boat by way of Modern Lesbian 1980 Wedding Cake Topper)

  • Lily-Rygh

IN. I agree that the flare in those pants is unnecessary, as is the stripe. But I think her hair is lovely and the earrings are gorgeous, and it makes one hell of a visual impact!

  • lrhoff

In, in, and more IN!!!! I’m hunting this outfit down to buy for myself…..

  • A Shiny O’Connor

OUT – she looks like a sassy rich old dear.

  • Judih1

OUT. Wrong color white for this time of year. It looks like spring white, not winter white. Don’t like the racing stripe cause it cheapens the look. Proportions on the jacket are off – too short for those long cover your feet pants. Face looks too shiny and

  • MandyM

She looks like Fran Drescher. Out!

  • gsk241

    Drum majorette. Out.

  • demidaemon

Of all the MK outfits from this event, this is my favorite. This fact does not necessarily make it good. I like the pants. I also like the jacket. I do not like what she did to her head nor what is underneath the jacket. So, in looking for a tiebreaker, I determined that she needed a belt here, making this a slight OUT.

  • tarqueeny

I like it, but as a work outfit, not something to wear out.

  • E. D.

IN, but I hate the hair with this.

  • VioletFem

IN. Despite the black stripe down her pants, she still looks pretty stunning in this suit.

  • Tapetum

Is it just me, or does she bear a striking resemblance to Sandra Bullock in these shots?

  • bertkeeter

    WRONG….on way too many levels!

  • AutumnInNY

No TLo you’re not cranky. This is a big out. It does look like a cruise ship employee uniform.

  • conniemd

In except for the hair which is too high. I agree about the stripe down the pants, but the look fits her. She should wear more lady pants and tailored clothing, as she does on the show.

  • Candigirl1968

A ponytail and more modern jewelry would have brought it off of the lido deck.

  • Tracy_Flick

In. I may have a few quibbles, but she looks gorgeous.

    • Anplica Fiore

Yeah, not loving the neckline on the bustier, but looks great otherwise. In

  • amaranth16

Nip in the waist and get rid of those awful marching band pant stripes and you’d have yourself an outfit.

  • Danielle West

I would have preferred it with a black pant, and I hate the hair, but I still think it’s an “IN.”

  • IN. Hate the hair, love everything else.

  • Clair Ellis

  • kathrineb

Out. Suit is ok but the hair and hearings do not compliment the look. Especially dislike the earnings.

  • kathrineb

Whoa cover the bun then the earrings on the picture with your finger. So much better!
