Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Schumacher at the “Enough Said” Screening

Posted on October 14, 2013

Acceptable and safe. It’s disappointing to use those words to describe a JL-D outfit, since she has a long history of nailing it on the red carpet

Julia Louis-Dreyfus attends the premiere of “Enough Said” during the 2013 BFI London Film Festival in a Schumacher dress paired with Christian Louboutin pumps and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Schumacher ‘Perfection’ Dress

This is the second time she’s attended a screening for this film dressed like she’s James Gandolfini’s widow. We get that she’s in a situation where she has to be respectful toward her co-star’s memory and not look too attention-seeking or glammed up, but we think there’s a happy medium between Hollywood-style glitz and widow’s weeds.

She looks pretty and there’s nothing wrong with the dress but it feels a little style-free. She’s holding herself back and she really doesn’t need to. Of course, the majority of Celebrity Land is dressing for funerals lately, so you could say she’s just being trendy. We’re kind of fascinated by it, to be honest. Is there an anti-depressant shortage in Hollywood or something?

You know, I think you hit the nail on the head, TLo. Because she normally is better than this, but now she’s plugging a movie with a very recently deceased co-star. I look at it this way – whenever I see the trailer on TV, I automatically go, “Awww… James Gandolfini”. And that may be what many others are thinking as she goes around promoting the movie. So I’m guessing somber and stylish may be the only way for her to go right now – it sucks, but the timing may be bad for her to head out in anything bright and cheerful for this particular film. Better luck on her next movie!

      • Nelliebelle1197

I agree; she is showing restraint and taste in a difficult circumstance. Other than that, I want some of the virgin blood she is drinking. Now.

        • Tracy_Flick

No kidding. In addition to eternal youth, it apparently gives you AMAZING hair.

          • demidaemon

Yes, I too am super amazed by her lovely hair here.

        • Mary229

Every time I see her, she looks even prettier than she did before. It defies all logic.

      • Joanna

Absolutely agree with you – she’s handling this situation as well as can be expected, and frankly, I think it speaks volumes about her. Makes me want to see the movie FOR her. Otherwise, she looks gorgeous as always.

    • teensmom99

I think she came straight from the Veep set in Selena’s dress.

      • lobsterlen

        Selena dresses sexier.

        • misstressofsylar

yes, Selena would never wear this dress. too covered up for her taste

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

Those shoes are the color of baby puke.

      • 3boysful

I think there should be a rule that when your outfit contains black and “some other color–even white,” you cannot default to nude-ish shoes, especially when said shoes are, as you say, an unattractive shade of nude.

      • Celandine1

If one is going to wear Louboutin’s why the hell would one choose that pair??

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

From a couple of angles she looks like Mary Louise Parker, which is weird.

Is the lack of colour also related to the government shutdown? Stylists all seem to freak and pack away the jewels to be “sensitive” when there is economic shit going down.

    • PinkySlinky

it does feel like they’re mourning some sort of ‘New Hollywood Blacklist’ season…

    • lobsterlen

I will say this its sort of boring but it sure shows off her slamming body. There should be a funeral for those shoes. Bury’em but burn’em first.

      • marlie

With a black and white dress, they could have picked ANY color shoe and they went for these. : /

        • 3boysful

Should have read further down before ranting the same thing.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Even her face looks demure. No one has probably said the word “demure” about JLD ever.

    • marlie

I like the dress; I have something similar that’s one of my favorite go-to dresses for work.

    • decormaven

She looks great from the neck up, but something about how the white panels are placed on the dress are not figure flattering. And she’s got a great figure, so I can’t understand if the dress is improperly fitted or it’s just the camera angles.

    • MilaXX

Not liking the shoes with this

      • mjude

I totally agree. why in the world would one wear that color with that dress?

    • TAGinMO

Yes, this look is a little boring, but my God, she is Benjamin Button! Amazing what $3 billion can do.

    • mshesterp

I think SHE looks amazing, and I don’t mind the dress, but it’s crying out for sexy shoes, and those just make me cry. Why would you ever do nude shoes with a relatively simple b&w dress?

I really just want to talk about the movie, which was SO, so awesome–James Gandofini is straight up furry bear sexy, she’s earth mama sexy, and it actually deals with a real relationship in a real way where people behave like flawed human beings and not just rom-com characters. Highly recommended. Makes me about 100x sadder Gandolfini’s gone.

      • lobsterlen

That is what I am afraid of by seeing this movie becoming sadder that Gandolfini is gone. I watched the entire Sapronos series again this summer again. Good lord it was good.

        • mshesterp

Yeah, I pretty much cried for half of it–not sure if it was about him, or about my own romantic entanglements, but either way it was worth it.

      • nannypoo

I was not expecting much from this movie, but I totally agree with you – it’s a really good movie. They are both such likeable yet flawed characters, and I felt so much empathy for both of them. His performance especially was just great.

      • Not applicable

didn’t know him, never even saw him live/in person- but yea, just loved his presence. :(

      • Renaissance_Man_ATL

Beige shoe, not “nude”. Nude is not a color! I’m on a crusade about it. Thanks! :)

        • marlie

Others might argue that “nude” is a color that varies depending on the wearer. 😉 But these are more “taupe” anyway.

        • bellafigura1

Mmn, “blush” or “cranberry” are not colors either, but we all know what they represent. There are so many different beiges, I think “nude” is one variation.

However, “nude” is a different thing to JLD than it is to Octavia Spencer, so that’s why it bugs me!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Apparently stylists are a part of the government shit down.
Is she having a style crisis? A style rut? A style breakdown?

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Was shit down deliberate or a typo? Because it is perfect!

        • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

For once, I caught my typo before I hit ‘post’, but since it made me laugh, I couldn’t resist leaving it.

          • Constant Reader

THe Daily Show is calling it “Shutstorm 2013: America Sits On Its Balls.” So you’re in good company.

      • alyce1213

        Shit down!

    • nannypoo

This is not at all flattering and the shoes are pretty ugly. Beautiful makeup and her hair looks pretty.

    • Katesymae

Hair and face have never looked better though. Is it possible she’s been refreshed?

    • Trickytrisha

Face and hair are excellent. But that dress does something awkward to her upper torso making her look broad and waistless. The shoes don’t bear speaking of.

    • alyce1213

The dress may be a little on the dull side, but I’m going with it for the very reason you stated (respectfully understated) plus she looks beautiful. I love her face.

    • crash1212

She does “safe” so well. She looks great.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

It’s not only mourning, it’s BLAND mourning.

    • Little_Olive

Minus the shoes, I like it. What has she done to her hair? Because that I’m really loving. And flawless face.

    • Tatiana Luján

I love her hair and makeup, so soft and flattering.

    • SophieCollier

I dunno, maybe you guys can link a connection between celeb dressing and the current political environment. I think she looks gorgeous here, though. Her face and hair are killa!

    • jw_ny

This funeral look is much fresher than the Italian widow look of the other. Her hair and makeup look great here. Hopefully next gig she’ll take one more step out of this, seemingly, mourning period…

    • bertkeeter

Bridge dept…, second floor at Bloomies!

    • kolokOlchik

Her face looks incredibly soft and pretty

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Safe, but pretty. Love her hair.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

acceptable and safe = drab and dowdy. those shoes? with black and white? is she trying to bore us to tears?

    • EEKstl

Safe but still pretty. It saddens me not to see JG on the RC with her.

    • Kikishua

I just tried to scratch that errant full stop (first sentence) off my computer screen.
