Jessica Paré‎ in Calvin Klein at the Elle’s Women in Hollywood Celebration

Posted on October 23, 2013

Not quite sure why this isn’t working for us, but after several minutes of staring at it, we intoned thusly:

“Not in love.”

“Nope.”

“Mad Men” star Jessica Paré attends Elle’s 20th Annual Women In Hollywood Celebration in Beverly Hills, California in a Calvin Klein dress.

The shape of the dress is fine, but we’re not sure that pink is her friend and we don’t think the two different fabrics do anything but distract the eye. In addition, we seriously dislike the shoes and the hair looks kind of … underdone somehow. She’s capable of looking really striking on the red carpet, but for whatever reason, this one’s looking bland and underthought.

wrong shade of pink/coral, make up looks matched to a different dress and she desperately needs smoothing creme for the hair.

      • sagecreek

Yeah, that looks alarmingly like my hair, and trust me, I’m on no red carpets, anywhere.

    • Sarah

Good God it sure don’t help that her eyeshadow clashes like a mofo.

    • Lori

That color really isn’t right, and the different fabrics come off as just weird instead of interesting, which is what I assume they were shooting for.

    • marlie

I can’t muster up anything more creative than “meh.”

    • MilaXX

On my iPhone.?what is going on with her right shoulder? Is she using a marshmallow peep as a shoulder pad? I think she needs to open the neckline up. Maybe a scoop or a v. Color isn’t great and the skirt/top is somehow making her look thick in the middle. Hair/makeup looks a bit daytime.

      • Sarah

If she WAS using a Peep as a shoulder pad, this would be a more interesting outfit.

        • kimmeister

The very idea is making me LOL.

      • Rhonda Shore

love the marshmallow peep reference! The bottom pink fabric looks problematic…

    • charlotte

She’s not selling it either. Sometimes a Betty Draper bitchface works wonders.

      • LJCdoc

I think the not selling is really apparent in her posture.

    • Karen Belgrad

I was immediately drawn to the matchy lip…and not in a good way.

    • anabel22

It’s her makeup that bothers me the most.

    • Jennifer McGuire

Yawn. which is a shame, because she has a killer figure and enviable cheekbones.

    • sagecreek

I’m not sure about the fit, either — look at that right shoulder.

    • Stella Zawistowski

What’s with the Calvin Klein duds on the RC lately? First that hideous thing Lea Michele had on, and now this boring, wrinkled thing that has visual weirdness (the two fabrics) instead of visual interest.

      • makeityourself

I think you could have stopped after “duds.” It’s not just on the red carpet and hasn’t been for quite a while.

    • flamingoNW

I think the bottom fabric ruins it. I like the top. I actually think the length could have gone just a tad longer, which I know most people don’t like but I think looks great. Shoes hate

    • oatmealpie

Sweetheart, you aren’t Joan. You’re Megan.

      • lunchcoma

Maybe that’s part of the problem, along with the matchy lipstick.

If I were her, I’d try to avoid taking visual cues from any of the characters on the show.

    • http://aldonsusi.blogspot.com/ Susi R

I think it is the peptobismol pink shade that ruins this look.

    • steeg of their own

The fabric ruins it. If this was a nice non-shiny knit or something, no one would have issues.

      • AnneElliot

The fit is just so odd and distracting. She has an amazing figure but it’s just unflattering. And what is with the summery sandals all over the place lately? It’s nearly Halloween. I realize she’s in California, but wasn’t everyone all dressed for winter a couple of weeks ago?

    • Violentcello

Pink eyeshadow, pink lips, pink dress–who does she think she is, Barbie?

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Pink is the new black. :)

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Awful. Go home and start over. And I don’t like saying that about her.

    • Lilithcat

That dress needs to be made of a single fabric, preferably the knit, not the shiny satin. And summer sandals don’t go with a fall/winter dress. Also, a piece of jewelry would be nice.

    • hughman

“Welcome to Melon Ball Airlines. For the duration of this take off, please put your trays in the upright position. Like that one there… the one I’m pointing at. Do you see it? Riiigghhht… there. Thank you!”

    • Tatiana Luján

I don’t like the shiny pannel or the shoes, but that salmon makes her skin look beautiful and so does the makeup (in my screen).
I like th idea of the hair, which could be improved with 2 drops of anti-frizz serum.

    • MzzPants

      A. Too tight across the hips. B. Hair looks unpolished. C. She looks tired.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Charlie’s Angel action figure by Mego. The jumpsuits they came with remind me of this dress.

    • E. D.

Don’t mind the color, but the neckline is no good.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I can’t explain really, she just looks like a lipstick tube.

    • Kelly

The whole thing fits poorly — too much pulling, and the bunching at the shoulder suggests that the dress is too small (though it might just be the fabric). The shiny part *is* distracting, and the shoes look like they belong to some other outfit entirely. Yet it *should* work — warm pink can look lovely on a dark-haired woman, and it’s a chic style of dress. So it’s fit, fabric, and accessories that are the culprits here.

      • J. Preposterice

no, I’m with you on the fit. the pulling and boob pancake are exactly what happens to me when I try to wear something just a bit too small for my boobs — everything ends up out of wonk, even though technically there is enough fabric to cover things.

    • Jumpingjacks

her pose isn’t really helping… relax woman

    • NoveltyRocker

I like it! Her pert little pointer finger pose is kind of fun. A more substantial shoe in a stronger shade would vibe better with the dress’s edge. I even like the slight frizz in the hair since it’s got a good shape. However, I don’t think pink shadows look all that great on lighter skin tones.

      • ybbed

I like it too, its pretty.

    • AnnaleighBelle

It’s too tight in the arms and boob arena, too loose in the waist, and you can see her coochie outline (which I don’t understand how it happened from a fit perspective).

The color makes her look sallow and her shoes aren’t even on speaking terms with that dress. Her feet look like a digital avatar’s feet on Second Life.

    • tallgirl1204

Is the bottom velour or velvet? We wore pink/coral velvet mini-skirts in junior high stage choir in 1972… this is taking me back. I want to like it, just for nostalgia’s sake, but it is doing her no favors. And the lining is peeking out at the neck… Maybe with a belt?

    • Julie Parr

      Very Ann Taylor esque.

    • nannypoo

It looks flammable. I hate it.

    • andi56

The pink eyeshadow is scaring me.

    • MissKimP

A different neckline, or a necklace, would be an improvement I think.

    • quiltrx

The seaming on this thing is just odd…and the difference in fabrics boobs-up vs. boobs-down looks like those shitty panels on the current NFL jerseys that make weird darker areas when they get sweaty.

    • Little_Olive

The evils of satin(-y fabric) strike again. That is all.

    • Calista14

Her hair is distracting to me. The color looks she did it herself with some Target bought Loreal, it’s all frizzy and fly away. The color of the dress is just bad, like nasty left over sherbet punch from a lame bridal shower. I wore the same color bridesmaid dress in 1988, this color is just as bad now as it was 25 yrs ago.

    • TLJezebel

      Nursing home shoes.

    • elemspbee

      the hair, the shoes. ayayay.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

Isn’t her natural color brown, not black? The dress doesn’t fit right. It’s all wrinkled.

    • MK03

      It’s the hair. It’s just so…blerg.

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

It breaks my heart to see her missing the mark on the style front.

    • Robotanne

It’s the boobs. Put a brar awn, Jess.

    • oklund

Pink could work for her, but this is too much of it – it’s just a big blotch of colour.

    • KinoEye

I love me some Jessica, but this is so not working. The different fabrics are the biggest offense here, I think. Very confusing visual effect. With her dark hair, she could rock the right shade of pink, but I don’t think this is it. It also screams Easter or spring bridesmaid’s dress to me, but she’s far from being the only offender on that front. I’ve been loving her slicked-back dominatrix looks on the RC lately. They really suit her — more of that, please, Miss Lady.

    • crash1212

I don’t hate this, in fact, I love everything from the neck up. It’s great to see her without the severe hair and make-up. I think what kills the dress for me is the way the chestal area fits…like it’s too tight or something. Also, the shoes…I hate them and they don’t go with this dress.

    • lgt

No one else has said it, so i will: She’s a Winter, and this pink is for Springs/Autumns! #colormebeautiful

    • halleygee

Her hair looks very 70’s, as in before there were many hair finishing products available. The make-up is a disaster… also kind of 70’s bc also looks very unfinished and visible under-eye concealer. I’m not a big fan of the dress/shoes but if her head looked polished, it would vastly improve the entire situation.

    • Zubair Ghumro

I like the coral colour but the amalgamation of two textures doesn’t seem to do any wonders

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      I dunno; I like it a lot

    • J. Preposterice

that dress does NOT fit her. it is giving her boob pancake and just — it just doesn’t fit. something this simple, with this cut, in those fabrics — the fit needs to be impeccable and this fit is NOT.

    • pop_top

I actually like the hair, but the dress’ fit is distracting me more than anything else.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Overall, the dress is cute, but the two different materials distract rather than compliment. The shoes don’t help the outfit either.

    • Kristobel

Wow. Totally thought this was Morena Baccarin. Can’t decide if that’s a compliment or not. :

    • RoseJB

To be honest, I thought this was one of her best looks. I think pink looks great on her (though the fabric blocking is strange).
