IN or OUT: Queen Latifah at the 2013 Black Girls Rock Awards

Posted on October 28, 2013

Gather ’round, girls. Let’s judge.

What do we all think of this?

Queen Latifah attends the 2013 Black Girls Rock Awards at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey.

We may have dropped a “Damn” under our breath when we first saw it. As first-impression, high-impact looks go, this is a keeper. It’s a head-turner and it fits her to perfection. Plus the hair, makeup and jewelry are all perfect.

BUT.

We’re not in love with the texture on the metallic part. In fact, we kind of hate it. And we go back and forth on whether the accentuated shoulder works with her build. We think it might, but not with a graphic element that cuts a line right across her shoulders like that.

Kittens make the call:

Vote Now!

IN! Serving … BOLDNESS!

OUT! Too severe and not very flattering.

With much disappointment in their hearts, the Bitter Kittens voted Octavia Spencer’s rickrack dress OUT.

    • Sarah

I like it (I love me some Queen) but yeah, no good on the texture there. She’s moooolting.

    • Glam Dixie

The metallic accents are kind of giving her a ‘my flesh is melting’ thing and she has a few odd lumps and bumps in it, but overall I think I like it. Not a ringing endorsement but yeah, I like it.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      In, bitches. You know why.

      • Sobaika

        The Queen is always In.

      • Rand Ortega

        Holla!

      • Leah Elzinga

        preach!

    • Adrianna Grężak

Out – being aware of how a dress photographs should be a requirement for these events, Also, I think the black jersey cheapens the look

      • Karen North

I agree! Initially I was so thinking this was a slam dunk…til the light hit it sideways and then it was suddenly so ULGY. Remember that Seinfeld episode where the girl is pretty and the light changes and she is scary looking? Gives a whole new meaning to the term Frankendress

    • random_poster

You made it a poll, so I have to go with OUT for the exact reasons you describe. The Queen usually serves it, so this is a disappointment in my humble eyes.

    • Tatiana Luján

In! But those sequins need some discipline.

    • MW

The texture doesn’t work for me I think the accentuated shoulders, shape and colours all look fabulous on her. IN.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

The neckline is giving her some much needed neck, I think she looks great,

    • MilaXX

IN! I like it and I suspect the metallic bit didn’t go all wonky in person.

    • Nikko Viquiera

      IN.

    • Janet B

      In.
      Wish she wore different earrings.

    • conniemd

      IN. First impressions matter.

    • Laura Renee

OUT not just for how the sequins seem to be flaking off, but also because my first impression was that she’s wearing a giant piece of sheet metal.

    • Saturnine

IN. I’d bet the metallic part looks better in person than under the lights. Face is fab, too.

    • pookiesmom

IN! This is crazy flattering IMO and very chic. I sort of agree about the metallic texturing, but not enough to overlook the insane flatteringness that is happening here.

    • nannypoo

      She looks fabulous and powerful.

    • Donyelle

the best shot is of her walking up the stairs. She owns it.

      • formerlyAnon

Look at that smile, right? She’s got that special celebrity magic where she can look totally slick and put-together in that way that takes an obvious team, big dollars, and hours and, at the same time look totally unaffected and genuine. It’s rare and it’s magic.

    • Vickiefantastico

I love the Queen. She always looks fabulous, but I agree with you, I hate the texture of that dress. It looks like something’s wrong with it. I’ve seen fabric like that where it’s been washed too much, and it starts to fade away. That’s what it reminds me of.

    • Charles

The metallic panel would work perfectly for me if it didn’t look like it was disintegrating/falling off. It’s minor but kind of ruining it for me overall. I still lean towards an IN though.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Yep. LUV it, and Her. That texture is due to the sequins being flipped counter to the direction they were sewn. I don’t know it was intentional or not. But I like it nonetheless.

      • Sarah

Oh it has to be intentional, or somebody copped quite a feel on Queen’s chesticles.

    • zenobar

In. The Queen is serving Rumplemintz realness.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

        My favorite booze.

        • zenobar

          My favorite armor!

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

…that explains the ads with the warrior woman riding the polar bear…!

    • Nariya

In. I’ll take or leave the texture but I don’t think it drops the look from being an In. Respect for the shoulder pads. I think she’s rocking the severity.

      • Lanus

Yeah, I think the accentuated shoulder actually adds to the look for her, because she’s all about showing off her abundant, powerful form. She never seems to “downplay” as her prime objective…her #1 priority clothes-wise always seems to be turning up the volume and underlining herself. LOVE HER.

    • El Bee

IN! The shape is so flattering on her, and the fit is amazing.

    • padma sallah

IN. That distressed metallic part is doing the dress no favours but everything is else just looks fantastic.

    • OpinionatedMtnGirl

IN – yes the texture is not ideal but the shape is so great for her I can overlook that

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

IN. Also, I so want to go to the Black Girls Rock Awards!

    • alyce1213

I don’t absolutely love the dress, the front’s a little shield-like and obvious, and she’s got a nasty hair bump (one of my bête noires), but overall, she looks good, so in (with a lowercase i).

    • somebody blonde

IN. The elements you pointed out are unfortunate but not look-ruining.

    • HM3

The illusion-figure created by the shiny fabric is FAR too absurd for Latifah’s height and body type. This is not a “slimming” illusion–this is a cartoonish, Barbie/Jessica Rabbit waist. That, coupled with the fact that the shoulders and hips still meet Latifah at her own shoulders and hips, makes this dress a fail.

      Sorry…out.

    • altalinda

      In!!

    • Jonquil

Out! It’s flattering as hell, but the molting sequins are a bridge too far.

    • kmk05

IN! The texture of the metallic part is horrifying (especially in that photo where she’s climbing the stairs: the sequns look like they’ve been scratched out!) but damn her face, her posing, her hair and the actual shape of the metallic part. Those are all working overtime for her.

It’s also nicely fall/going into winter appropriate.

    • Nazzzy

      IN. Love her!

    • leftcoastpickle

OUT I really hate this dress.

    • JauntyJohn

IN, but mostly because The Queen has made it very clear that she does not want to be Out.

    • Sif

Out. She looks like she got cum stains all over her chest.

    • Rand Ortega

The Queen always rates an IN (is that a map of some sorts under the sequins? I thought I saw South America). She’s just so stunning.

    • hughman

      Aunty Entity, I presume.

    • tereliz

Ooh. I REALLY dislike the sequins. But I love the silhouette on her. I bet it didn’t look this bad in person, but she knew she’d be photographed… Out.

    • gabbilevy

In, except it looks like a terrified cat crawled its way up her body, destroying the gold fabric on its way.

      • MannahattaMamma

exactly! I thought it looked like the cat maybe forgot where its scratching post was and went to town. But cat-scratch fever notwithstanding, it’s an in.

    • Lori

Out. I’m tired of this design and the sequins look like they’re molting or something. Sorry. She’s still the Queen and I lover her, but even her fabulous can’t save this.

    • SarahVN

In. The texture isn’t great, but everything else works perfectly.

    • judybrowni

IN, but I still don’t get the sister-wife hair-bump-in-the-front thing.

      • paginatrix

in 8 or 10 years, we’ll look at that hairdo and say what we say when we see the bangs-AquaNet’d-straight-up of the mid-’80s: WTF?

    • marlie

Absolute IN from me! I think Queen L looks stunning; this dress is perfect for her figure. I also love the texture on the metallic part of the dress. Hair and makeup are perfect, shoes and clutch are fine. The only thing I’d change are the earrings, but that’s minor.

    • oat327

Literally had the exact impression: immediately said, “She looks incredible!” and amended, “Well, her shoulders look really big in that though.” And then got to the second picture and thought, “Holy crap, how did chunks of burning lava land on her chest?”

Still, in. Weird things going on, but overall she looks great.

    • kipper

      IN

    • Danielle

Love her, but the texture make me think the dress was falling apart.

    • Jessica O’Connell

IN. I think she looks fabulous. Plus, I’ve just got to support my fellow Jersey Girl and NJ PAC! Love her and think she looks fantastic!

    • AmeliaEve

In, with one caveat: for this event only. I don’t really like the textural elements, but they are very rock-and-roll. Know your venue. I must confess that I have been eyeing a Chico’s version of this dress for my own wardrobe.

    • keaglin

This would have been a werq if the metallic material was different. I’m really hating that part of the dress, but the fit is good, the hair and makeup are great, so I’ll say IN.

    • siriuslover

      Most definitely IN!!

    • Olga Frayman

Absolutely IN. It’s not a WERQ, but it’s a definite IN

    • Jessica Freeman

Oh this one is tough. It’s a shame her sequins look moldy, but as an all over effect it is quite stunning. Barely IN Queen.

    • BayTampaBay

      IN! She looks great!

    • tinyredlocks

      IN!

    • Tanya Wade

IN. I adore it and would wear it in a NY minute. The textural interest from the “slashed” sequins is unique.

    • ojosazules

The fabric looks okay from the front, but at any other angle it’s awful. The line at her neck makes her head look like it’s sitting on a hardware shelf. Out.

    • Stella Zawistowski

I don’t like the texture, but she’s still fierce enough to make this look work. IN.

      • Anplica Fiore

Me too – the bump-it hair was almost what set me off into out territory at first, but the dress is slamming! In

    • mmebam

      *snaps* Yaaaaaas #In

    • Jennifer C.

Not crazy about the texture of the metallic, but overall an IN.

    • Synnae

IN! I get the shoulder comment and I would have gone for different sequins but the overall fierceness should be awarded.

    • Rhonda Shore

I actually don’t care for the dress but i still vote IN because she wears it with such attitude and i do love the hair and make-up.

    • uprightcitizen

Was totally inclined to like it at first, and I think the color palette, the length, the styling and the shoulder all look smashing on her. But not only is that “antiqued” texture unfortunate (it would be great on a rocker-look jacket, but on a nice dress, it just looks like it got stuck together at the dry cleaner), but I really don’t care for the shape of the panel. It seems to say “I don’t care for the shape I have, so I’ll just draw a different one on the front of my dress and go with that.” Tromp l’oeil is fine on a wall, on a person it works for a minute and then just looks like you’re wearing a paper doll dress or something. Still and all, she kind of can’t help looking beautiful.

      • Gatto Nero

Agree about the ineffective trompe l’oeil panel plastered onto the front of the dress, a trick Stella McCartney did to death a few seasons back. (See the side view particularly.) And not liking the rough patches on the metallic.

Her stylist should have steered her elsewhere.

        But no argument: she’s beautiful.

    • RandiLu

Definitely an “In”. Girl looks fierce.

    • carnush

      It’s striking and flattering. IN.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Love it from the front, but the side shot makes it look very bad.

    • MartyBellerMask

Those splotches are just weird. But DAYUM if she don’t look fierce. She gets an IN from me!

      • http://urban-gypsy.com/ Tess Danesi

They make me think of somebody really, really, REALLY liked her in the limo on the way over. Not good but I still think she looks striking and is an overall in.

    • Fordzo

I think it looks like someone washed the dress with a load of jeans and ruined it.

      But I love her hair!

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

IN. I can get past the textural misstep because everything else is fierce.

    • LadyCelia

      I hate the bump-it hair.

    • rissa42210

IN. She looks great. No hesitation on this one.

    • NBG

      IN. Love the accessories too.

    • MarTeaNi

It is intentional texture or did the sequins get flipped the wrong way? That happens sometimes in storage and I’ve had to resmooth them so they all lay in the right direction, and with the little stragglers around the front hip area it doesn’t look like they were supposed to be textured to me.

    • oklund

Shoulders bad, everything else good. It fits the bill, but the dress is so… 1987.

    • MzzPants

      IN.

    • Heather

The sequined part looks a little moth-eaten, but the color and silhouette are great. IN!

    • decormaven

In, but I’d like to seen some copper earrings with the look.

    • DaringMiss

      Totally IN.

    • willworktomorrow

Smoking hot. IN. And I like the shoulders. Curvy gals often default to drapey, soft lines and I think the sharp shoulder gives her definition and sets off her shape perfectly.

      • formerlyAnon

I like it when women with broad, strong shoulders show them off. I don’t understand why it is so often considered a negative.

    • kittenwithaquip

I read “In Or Out: Queen Lat…” and said “IN”. I see your quibbles, but pull a “Queen Latifah”. That’s all I really need to know. She’s kinda a Swinton or Cumberbatch for me.

    • Zubair Ghumro

      In In In

    • Sunraya

In!!! I think she looks fabulous!!!

    • lobsterlen

      Total IN

    • mjude

      IN

    • SusannaGA

Out, by a nose. Mostly because the metallic is quite flattering from the front, but not at all flattering from the side.

    • jonesybj_notreally

In. because she’s the Queen. the hair – is that a faux-hawk bumpit in there? run forrest run

    • calimon

IN. At some angles it looks worse, but that may also just be due to flash. I think the shoulder accents give her a delicateness. She looks chic!

    • Dan_In_NYC

Yeah, it’s an IN. I’m with you about not loving the texture, and my biggest quibble is the horizontal line across the shoulder – but overall she’s serving.

      • Dan_In_NYC

And I agree with others, I don’t like this moment she is having lately with there bump-it hairdos.

    • Jangle57

It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen but I don’t know, the more I look at it, the less I like it and I wasn’t that wowed by it in the first place. OUT

    • frannyprof

In. She looks amazing, even if half of her sequins have fallen off her dress.

    • Synnamin

In! there are some weird things happening with the metallic, but I love the design and shape of it

    • LaSylphide

Agree it’s not perfect, but she is enhancing the dress, so I’ll go with an IN.

    • formerlyAnon

Through my fog of unlimited bias in Ms. Queen Latifah’s favor, I can say that this isn’t the best presentation she’s ever made. My issue is not so much what she’s got on, but the distance between that textured metallic and her normal sleek elegance. It looks not so much bad, as “not-her.”

But it’s not bad and I love her and so it is IN.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Oh so close! But the texture on the metallic is all wrong! :(

    • Ashley Ellen Wilson

      IN.

    • LJCdoc

I’m somewhat on the fence. But it’s consistent with her long-standing tradition of being fierce, so IN.

    • Kelly

      In! Chic and flattering.

    • Jaeda Laurez

IN. I like the texture of the metallic part- otherwise it looks very plain. i appreciate the line across the shoulders, since the metallic part creates the curves for her. I always appreciate the fact that her accessories, hair and makeup are always lovely; in lesser hands, I think this might have gone all the way wrong.

    • Nicoclaws

In. The texture looks good when it’s reflecting black. (I admit it’s awful the rest of the time, but Queen is Queen)

    • twocee

      Her dress has the phage.

      She looks gorgeous though.

    • Shawn EH

It’s sort of an Oprah moment, but it would work much better full length. Proportions are off. Out.

    • YoungSally

Texture looks like the zombies got to it.

    • kimmeister

Out, only because the metallic part immediately made me think of Han Solo frozen in carbonite, which isn’t necessarily a chic reference for fashion. I also dislike how drastically different the splotches look from different angles, none of which are attractive.

Everything else is in order but I front ruins it.

    • gsk241

      Not perfect, but still IN!

    • jilly_d

      IN! Lurv.

    • Cynica

      So Brunhilde. In.

    • Calinda_L

In In In In In In In

      In.

    • KayEmWhy

Out I wish she’d stop wearing shades of brown. The graphics are too obvious.

    • melanie0866

      Out. What you said.

    • sagecreek

In. I hate the bumpit hair, but the rest works.

    • ChristySchiff

Are you joking me – she looks like amazing in this. (Plus, I’m pretty sure she knows it.)

      IN!

    • Jacqueline Wessel

IN. She’s always IN in my book.

    • reddhouston

      Love it! IN

    • Imasewsure

IN There is no out with the Queen! The shoulders are a little wide but I think she can rock it anyway.

    • Imasewsure

I almost always hate this hair style too and she is rocking it. Don’t love the earrings with this but that’s a minor quibble

    • ThaliaMenninger

I like it from the front but not the side. Not sure what that means.

    • Judy_S

IN. She looks amazing. Just stunning. Hang onto that primitive Damn!, boys.

    • R.A.

I don’t think the dress is meant to be textured. I think the sequins got shmushed up and they are all falling off and pointing the wrong way. And if that’s not the case, the “texture” doesn’t look deliberate enough to qualify as such. In spite of all that, she is gorgeous. Making it work!

    • Chaiaiai

GOD. she has the BEST posture. Teach those young misses at thing or two about owning your space, Queen.

    • María Foulquié

I buy it. I don´t like the texture either but the dress is flattering as hell.

    • Tracy_Flick

Queen Latifah + sequins + flawless styling = IN. Now and forever, Amen.

    • DTLAFamilies

In even with quibbles. What struck me is she’s rocking the high hair but Melissa McCarthy didn’t. Is it the shape of her face, is it her height? Why can she pull it off while McCarthy can’t?

    • ashtangajunkie

I’m with you on the texture (yuck), but I think this is an IN. She’s a goddess.

    • Nancer

IN! I love this on her.

    • shorty j

that metallic is heinous, and the fake “tiny waist” silhouette irritates me because it looks like the dress decided that the Queen’s kickin’ bod wasn’t good enough. OUT.

    • boweryboy

      OUT. Full body armored linebacker.

    • bellafigura1

I have to give it an IN because she is so completely owning it, and she looks beautiful. But that distressed metallic situation brought me close to OUT.

    • Ros

IN. I agree that some of the elements don’t quite work the longer you look, but for sheer first-impression impact, it’s KILLER.

    • Slanted & Enchanted

IN. It’s high impact, and that usually matters more to me than quibbles.

    • ampg

I saw the first picture and was like, “Why is this even up for a vote?” Then I saw the other angles and got it. But I still say she’s IN, if only because that first picture is stunning.

    • another_laura

Borderline for me. Tipping into “in” because, well, it’s Queen Latifah. I really do not like the texturing on the metallic fabric.

    • Coco Cornejo

IN because the texture of the metallic part makes it look like she just walked in from an intergalactic gun fight and she’s giving some “yeah, I did it. what of it” face in the second shot.

    • AndreaSkates

In. The first picture is gasp-worthy (AMAZING face). I see the quibbles after I scroll down, but I’m already so impressed that they can’t derail the greatness train.

    • Trickytrisha

IN. I love the texture and shoulders. Curvy girl is serving it here. The earrings don’t quite make sense, but what I could really do without is the hair pouf.

    • CeeQ

Even with that very severe shoulder line, I still think she is rocking the hell out of this! IN.

    • lesmaha

I loved it until the side shot, with the weird molting effect. I think she can pull off the shoulder thing. I’m on the fence, but because it is so flattering from the front, I’ll give it a barely IN.

    • ovarB

In. I think you have to have that cut across the shoulder line with such a bold statement of the dress. Go bold or go home!!

    • crash1212

IN. Barely. I do not understand what’s happening with the texture on that shiny bit. Looks like it’s molting.

    • StarburstLady

I think it’s good enough, and I have a hard time making fun of anyone attending something called the Black Girls Rock Awards. IN.

    • Violentcello

Yes, the texture is weird, but Her Majesty can wear whatever she wants. She looks rad.

    • StylishDreaming

The sequins look like an old wall with peeling paint

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Out, just because the metallic part looks like it is literally splitting and falling off the dress. The rest of her is, as always, fab.

    • iloathethesea

In. The hair should be bigger because the wide shoulder’s making her head look kind of small. But that could be the drag in me talking.

    • MaryAlice Finley Davis

      In.

    • teensmom99

      IN because she’s the queen.

    • Maya

      meh

    • NYCGlamourpuss

INNNNNN!!! Love this, metallic and all! She looks fierce!

    • Belvane

It’s a little Star Trek for me. Guinan for the generation after the Next Generation.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I’m giving her an IN on this one. Not her greatest look but certainly not an OUT, considering the kinds of things I’ve voted out on in the past.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

She’s done better, of course, but it’s still an IN.

    • lalahartma

The gold part looks weird. Out.

    • BobStPaul

      Definitely an in.

    • elemspbee

In. This dress is nice on her. and quite fun with the metallic as illusion.

    • kaycem

      in.

    • demidaemon

Personally, I don’t like the metallic fabric–it reads a little cheap–and I wish the outline of the metallic fabric would have followed her curves. I think this would have diminished the effect of the shoulder. As a whole though, I think this has more pros than cons. IN!

    • titaness25

The metallic bit looks like the Velveteen Rabbit, mid-transformation. But I love her and I love it overall, so In.

    • River

      IN.

    • bertkeeter

      Dress in…Shoes nasty and out!

    • anneland

Are you kidding me? IN. It’s awesome.

    • VicD

Do you even have to ask!?!?! Resoundingly IN.

    • Tom Markiewicz

IN. Slightly problematic, but overall stunning.

    • stubbornthoughts

Ah, this is tough. The first and last picture are perfection, but everything in the middle is iffy. It’s Queen, so I love her, thus she’ll get an IN because she’s super cool.

    • Linda LaPaz

IN. Texture on the metallic part is a minor quibble, and I suspect it didn’t look as crazy in person.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

I don’t like the texture of the metallic either, but overall, the look is an IN.

    • Stubenville

The straight across neckline bugs and the texture on the metallic detracts BUT if it were just a plain metallic panel the dress might be too plain.

OUT! Even though the Queen is pretty fab, I can’t get over the “shedding the snakeskin” look of the front. AND the shoulder makes her look wider. Fix those and it’s an IN!

    • lizajane1776

      In.

    • unbornfawn

She’s working the hell out of the look. I still have to vote it OUT. That boxy line across her shoulders is throwing off the proportions and doing her no favors. That texture is photographing as if the sequins are peeling off. Not a good thing.

    • Sara__B

      IN. She makes it work.

    • SaraQ

      Hella yeah, IN!

    • AnniNoone

Okay, the texture does look like a braille world map, but she’s still IN as hell. Snaps of respect, as the ladies say.

    • stagmania

IN. Way more working than not working here.

    • SophieCollier

I’m not convinced the metallic part is even supposed to look like that. It’s weird!

    • CKMia

      In. Also? GORGEOUS.

    • RedRaven617

      She is alway “In”.

    • Sara McDarby

      Totally in! Really striking!

    • elizonthelam

Out. The metallic texture is too wonky

    • jw_ny

      in

the hour glass figure illusion bugs me a lot, but I quite like the rest.

    • GTrain

I like it other than that weird texture so I’ll say IN.

    • Judih1

IN – but would like it better without the metallic accents

    • sleepycat

No, I think the metallic is too close to her skintone and the texturing is fugly. OUT

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

      WHOA.

In from me, in spite of the whackadoodle texture.

    • rondele

In. I do like the boat neck shape at the top, and the texture on the front doesn’t detract. Her skin is beautiful and I love the pony.

    • CostumeChic

IN. There would have been infinitely more bitching if the dress didn’t have texture. Besides, she is owning the look.

    • Pterodactyl111

      IN!!! Bow to the Queen.

    • mcb

IN because she is scaring me so much in the second picture.

    • Cognitive.Dissonance

      An full-on IN.

    • housefulofboys

In if only because she is the queen. Actually I don’t like it for all the reasons stated but it’s really not bad enough to be called out. Think about all the crap that others wear, often I’ll-fitted or just plain fugly. She is merely molting. So, IN.

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

      In. So much in.

    • Aaminah Khan

Not a fan of that weird texture on the metallic bit, but she’s making it sing regardless. So, so IN.

    • Lize Hartley

      IN

    • Fannie Wolston

I don’t see a total package OUT. Her head dressing is fierce. That dress? ratty vintage bought in the dark put on without a mirror.

    • lilazander

She’s IN! Love her style, and she’s the Queen after all.

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

      IN!

    • OffToSeeHim

Bow to the queen, it’s a whole different standard.

    • Badriya Al-Badi’a

      In, she’s fiercely monolithic.

    • Erica_Vuitton

IN, she looks FAB! I would’ve given that dress a smooth pat down though.

    • julnyes

IN, but I really hate the texture on the metallic section of the dress. Everything else is working so well however she pulls this look into the IN category.

    • http://Reneesance.etsy.com Reneesance

So in, initial impact is breathtaking, I like the neckline and shoulders she looks fierce in my book.

    • Andrea Lentz

      IN it’s a werkkk

    • Lily-Rygh

IN. It’s imperfect, for sure, but it’s bold and dramatic and she looks confident as hell in it.

      Plus, she’s the QUEEN!

    • Aurumgirl

Usually, she can do no wrong. The problem I have with the odd texture on the metallic front is that it somehow gives the appearance that the fabric was stretched into destruction on those points. And that gives the dress the appearance that she somehow ruined it trying to put it on, because the shape of her body created stress points in the fabric that just gave up and shred itself thin.

I’m sure that wasn’t intended, but it is what it looks like. Otherwise, I love the neckline on the dress and the way it squares off the shoulders and shows off her beautiful neckline. Her hair and makeup is flawless and if you can let the fabric business go, she’s still stunning.

    • jmorino08

IN because she looks amazing in it, but whatever is happening on the center piece make it looks like it’s molting!

    • Jeanettesca

She is beautiful, talented, and sexy. I think she could do (and has done) much better than this.

    • Michelle Gennari

The metallic part looks damaged somehow. Nice shape to it though and it fits her wonderfully!

    • NOLA_gal

Love it. She’s the Queen for a reason.

    • vitaminC

OUT. Hair, makeup, jewelry are all stellar. BUT. I’ve always disliked these “draw a skinny lady on top of a thick lady” panel dresses with black sides. Even if the optical illusion works (and it kinda does), it’s still a pretty cheap gimmick. And that metallic stuff looks like her dress has eczema.

    • trisker

OUT. Love her, hate that gold stuff. and it looks like she’s not too sure of it either.

    • kim bunchalastnames

      mama looks good.

    • Gloriana Reginata

Oh, alas, a sad little out for me. All the rest is fantastic, but that harsh shoulderline makes her look like a linebacker with a teeny tiny head on top.

    • Jenna Marie

      In. Beautiful.

    • Bev

TLO I learn so much from you. Dead on you are. A rounded shoulder would soften the hair and the texture and shine are off putting. Cause that straight across at the shoulder should look really good on her curvy figure and set off her face. I GET IT! One small leap for the fashion unconsious %-)

    • PeaceBang

      IN. Always + Forever.

    • CatherineRhodes

      IN. Serving.

    • Samantha Irene

      In – Boldness!

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

I had every thought you did, in approximately the same order.

Bottom line? Any outfit that makes you mutter DAYUM is an IN, even if there are flaws.

    • swanpride

Nay…the texture I can overlook, but not the neckline. Makes her look boxy and totally destroys the slimming effect on the bottom part of the dress. But I applaud the bolt effort.

    • favorthebold

While I agree the texture is weird, I still think she looks fab. In.

    • MandyM

Go with that first thought… Damn! She looks fantastic! The flaky gold leaf on the dress is totally forgivable.

    • irielle

IN, except for the strangely textured middle bits. The shape of the dress really shows off her curves though.
