Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning at the Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 Show

Posted on October 03, 2013

Y’know… we hate when couples or co-stars do theme-dressing, and we thought we hated it when siblings do it, but for some reason, this just made us clap.

Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning attend the Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 show in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton.

Apparently, Dakota’s the evil sister. But we all kind of figured that, didn’t we?

They look like original Dark Shadows cast members and there are not enough words in the English language to say how much we love that. Do we love the individual looks? Actually, no. Not really. We hate sheer maxi-over-mini skirts and Elle’s whole outfit looks incredibly stiff and heavy. But as a team, making a major impact? We’re kinda loving it. We wish Dakota had done something appropriately goth-y with her eye makeup. That would have made this style teamup just about perfect.

im digging everything elle has on, especially those shoes. dakota less so. really have hated sheer maxis over minis for at least forever.

but agree with uncles tlo that they look like movie stars when you put this all together. not a werq but theyre working it…

    • Meg0GayGuys6

*at least* forever! Man oh man does that trend need to go away and die already!

      • marlie

And whoever came up with it in the first place needs to be taken out back…

  • Coleen

I’m mostly thrilled that Elle is wearing shoes that make sense for a change.

    • kimmeister

They make more sense than what the model has on, for sure.

      • demidaemon

I thought the same exact thing.

  • Eric Stott

As fashion, both outfits fail – as costumes both are clear winners

  • TropiCarla

“Resort” must be a euphemism for “Asylum.”

I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited a few resorts in my day and I would drop my drink laughing if ladies were walking around dressed like that.

That said – the girls do look great together. Go Team!

  • Oh, I bet the Mary-Kate and Ashley have out their Burn Book and are going to town.

    • Qitkat

I think the four of them ought to team up and do something fashionwise to spin all our heads around.

      • That would be amazing. I was just thinking, there are so many sister acts in the business right now, it would be fun to see some of them band together and doing something fresh.

        • demidaemon

I would kill to see an ensemble version of “Sisters.” Or a musical starring all these sister acts with that song as the guiding inspiration.

          • I remember “Sisters”!

          • adnama79

My sister and I can go into that routine at the drop of a hat. Less often once we were no longer teens. Alas, we are not famous and no one cares.

(Or, yay, we can run to Target in dirty jeans and pony tails and no one cares.)

  • Diego!

Elle looks stunning!!! And Dakota is sending an evil halo that catches all the attention… I love them and I agree, as a team, both look spectacular!

    • Rhonda Shore

I think it might be a personal best for Dakota, and I also love Elle in her white brocade.

  • HM3

These looks make me uncomfortable. I know that they aren’t 10 years old anymore, but even so…Dakota left very little to the imagination, and Elle’s skirt is a bit more fitted and north of the knee than even the model was allowed. Also, with those turquoise chunky heels, I just can’t.

    • Just as a reminder, Dakota is 19 years old, hard to believe…

      • HM3

She still looks incredibly adolescent! Awkward.

  • mlle

I had no idea Elle was so tall. The combined effect is more than the sum of its parts. And they both blotted their faces before going out!

    • schadenfreudelicious

now, if we could only get them to tone down that straw blonde hair…

      • UsedtobeEP

I was thinking about the hair. I like it on Elle, but it makes Dakota look really washed out. She needs brown hair. Sorry, D.

  • CatherineRhodes

Love that the little sis is so much taller than the big sis. Same thing happened with my two girls, and big sis is pissed!

  • V No Privacy

The Fannings will never shy away from a thick platform shoe. NEVER.

  • lundibleu

I hadn’t realised that Elle was so much taller than Dakota! I like them as costumes, particularly Dakota’s get up, but I would like it more if she had kept the darker hair and gone with slightly more goth-y makeup. After all, if you’re going to commit to a look, do it properly.

    • Heather

I know, right? Elizabeth Olson is like this too – towers above her miniature sisters. It’s always funny to me. My sister and I are more or less the same size… I’m an inch or so taller but we’re in the same general range.

      • Kristin McNamara

I’m the third of four kids, and yet the shortest by about 4-5 inches. And I’m already quite a bit taller than the average woman… I’m 5’9″! Both of my sisters (one older, one younger) are 6’1″ and my brother is about 6’3″. Apparently that’s what genetics will do when handed a 5’3″ parent and a 6’5″ parent 🙂

      • lundibleu

Yeah, my sisters and I are all fairly similar height between 5’9″ and 6′. I’m in the middle height wise, and my sister always thinks it funny to refer to her elder brother as ‘little brother’ ’cause she’s an inch or so taller 🙂

  • mjude

    like it

  • Tanya Wade

    Blonde ghost children FTW.

  • rkdgal

Love the concept, but what’s with that piping on Dakota’s dress that crosses right at nip level? Can’t imagine how that would look good on anyone, even hiked up or down.

  • jw_ny

If Elle’s top didn’t have pockets on it, I’d swear she had it on backwards. I kind of like it tho…aside from that. (I’ve a feeling she’s really the bad one…wolf in sheep’s clothing thing…)

As for Dakota’s look, the sheer skirt ruins an otherwise kinda cute dress. Cut if off at mid thigh! The bust makes her appear rather saggy too, and those heavy shoes…ugh.

  • Heather

Very ‘Flowers in the Attic’ to me. BTW, it seems that Lifetime is remaking this with… Kiernan Shipka in the lead? I love me some Kiernan, but I want better for her.

    • UsedtobeEP

Ugh, I hope not. Those books were the rage in my middle school.

      • Heather

Mine too. And I enjoy some trashy reading, but those are particularly bad.

        • UsedtobeEP

I just don’t want to see HER in them. Somebody else would be fine. I might watch but not tell anyone. ; )

          • Heather

Maybe Kiernan will be able to dilute the cheese factor somewhat?

I read a review of ‘My Sweet Audrina’ (not in the Flowers in the Attic series, but by the same author, VC Andrews) on Forever YA that was one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. It’s so, so bad. Even as a 14-year-old reading it for the ‘sex’ (such as it was), I knew it was garbage.

    • Oh no. That’s…oh no.

  • Jessica Freeman

I do not like either outfit, but damn if Elle isn’t striking from the neck up. She is making Dakota look like the little sister here.

  • decormaven

I think this is a great look for both of them. What I love especially is the play of natural lighting on their faces. Is this an early morning shoot? Lucky ladies to be in Paris for this event. Hope TLounge is in a stunning Paris location tonight.

  • Amanda Welliver

I’m not a hater but I seethe over the cut and fit of Elle’s top. Reminds me of a kid wearing one of dad’s old shirts backwards as a smock in art class.

  • JasmineAM

I REALLY hate their blonde hair. Go a few shades darker, please.

    • Kristin McNamara

Though I will say how nice it is to see (for the most part) a single color coming out of their heads. This is the least amount of root touch-up I’ve ever seen the two of them needing.

  • Erica_Vuitton

Ah The Sisters Fanning. I have to say I think they both look very age appropriate and individual. I would’ve liked something a bit lighter on the foot for Dakota and agreed, heavier make up. But Elle’s is pretty much a WERQ for me. I love the light hair and make up. I like the outfit and I LOOOVE those shoes. Seriously LOVE the shoes.

  • crash1212

I’m not usually a sheer-over-mini-dress person, but I really love Dakota’s look. She’s making it work. Love her shoes.

  • MilaXX

blech, they look like they are going to a couture cosplay event.

  • Ana the Hated

I think they look so fresh faced and creepy/cute together. I like it.

  • filmcricket

Adore Elle’s shoes. That’s about it.

  • SewingSiren

Or a remake of the Poseidon Adventure.
Agree that they look better as a pair than as individuals, but that’s okay because they are a pair. These two are kind of like a more publicist controlled version of the Olsen twins. Or maybe the Gish sisters. Anyway I likes. This is maybe the first time ever that I’ve seen a sheer over mini look good.

  • Jeremiah Capacillo

    haha “resort”

  • imakeart

Based of these 2 looks, methinks Vuitton should stick to bags and shoes.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Those Fanning girls love them a clunky shoe, don’t they?

  • ThesisMonkey

Really loving Elle’s getup — I’m feeling an ‘effortless chic’ vibe. Not into anything Dakota has going on here.

  • twilightgirlportland.com

Dakota needed some “Jane” influence. Like the red eyes.

  • fauxprah

    straight-jacket goth.

  • Elle Fanning is the living, breathing Cher Horowitz.

  • kimmeister

I do like to see Dakota in darker colors.

  • frannyprof

    Elle’s shoes are tdf.

  • thatguy9

Im Elle Fanning, and I love a chunky shoe.

  • Joey Melliza

weird — ELLE looks too fat un-skinny what she’s wearing. maybe it’s a size too small for her

  • buffythekid

I am still waiting for Elle and Rosamund Pike to play sisters. STILL WAITING.

  • conniemd

Why do so many lady stars pose with their legs crossed in front of them (in sheer or short dresses)? I cannot help but think they really need to go pee and I’m trying to hold it until I get off this red carpet.

  • Sarah Thomas

For Dakota Fanning, that IS pretty gothy makeup, since she usually looks like an undeveloped photo of an old-timey tuberculosis patient.

  • NoveltyRocker

Elle’s outfit does look sort of heavy but I would love to see it with a clean updo and some flat, menswear-inspired shoes. The neckline needs featuring and something about the fun skirt length just calls for flats.

  • JaCory Deon

Maybe it’s these pics but for me the hair color both girls are rocking is totally washing them out. Elle in particular, who would look 100 times better with red or even brown hair.

  • bellafigura1

Children of the Corn, but pretty.

  • jjtxgrrl

    Love those platforms!!

  • marlie

They look cute together. I hate Dakota’s look, though. And Elle’s kind of works for me.

  • Anne

    They’ve powdered their faces!

    • demidaemon

      I know. Finally!

  • Diana Giese

This is a WERQ moment for me. They both look SPECTACULAR. Love it.

  • alyce1213

    I love Elle’s platform wedges.

  • Trickytrisha

I’m strangely in love with Elle’s outfit. It may be made out of a high end blanket, but she’s rocking it, in my oh-so-humble opinion. I suppose it’s the head to ankle swathe of pale that does it for me. Her hair is glorious. Her shoes are less awful than usual too.

Dakota, on the other hand, isn’t having a good hair day… or a good dress day, or makeup, etc. It must be hard to be constantly photographed with your taller, younger sis knowing that comparisons are being made.

  • Cate

    Aww, this is cute.

  • Kristin McNamara

Man, those Fanning girls have long necks. So regal looking.

  • Lily-Rygh

Weird how much the prissy all-white look makes Elle look like Elizabeth Smart…
