Elisabeth Moss at the Chloé Los Angeles Fashion Show & Dinner

Posted on October 30, 2013

Sometimes, no matter how hard she tries, her Peggy Olson-ness takes over.

“Mad Men” star Elisabeth Moss attends Chloé Fashion Show & Dinner in Los Angeles, California.

We really hate the purse, which looks like a Trapper Keeper, and the extreme matchiness of the shoes makes our eyelids twitch, but this is a really cute outfit. Or it would be if her blouse hadn’t gone all untucked and her belt wasn’t suffering from depression. This should be sassy, but instead it looks like she’s just got out of a car after driving for 6 hours.

Also: That’s some old lady blush action going on there, girl. You’re about half a shade away from looking like Raggedy Ann.

P.S. Googling “Raggedy Ann face” yields some seriously scary-looking results. Was she always terrifying?

The purse looks like one of the $9.99 eyeshadow palettes somebody buys you as a last minute “Crap, I didn’t know she was coming” holiday gifts.

    • Donyelle

the purse is screaming clearance wet n wild. It kinda reminds me of a deconstructed Good and Plenty candy box too

    • Darcy H

I totally buy those for myself because I’m always like “oh look they pre-match shades, that’ll totally make me use it more often!”

  • charlie

I’m sad her blonde hair is gone! It was so cute on her!

    • sugarkane105

I’m hoping it means she’s back to filming scenes as Peggy!

      • czarina

Production for season 7 of Mad Men begins on Monday, November 4th!!!!!!

    • Rhonda Shore

and also the shorter length, it was great on her. I’m one who just doesn’t care for blush at all. A light foundation, and a strong eye or lip are enough for almost everybody.

  • oatmealpie

Yes, Raggedy Ann was always a little frightening. Little girls in Raggedy Ann costumes? Absolutely terrifying. (I know because I was one of them.)

  • sugarkane105

Thank you TLo for coverage of the Mad Men ladies today! I miss them dearly. Anyway, I think she looks cute – but you’re right about it being just a little bit off. Just like the scene when she gave a killer presentation with lipstick on her teeth.

  • Sarah

Blush matches shorts, shoes match shirt, clutch matches nothing. No thank you.

  • Little_Olive

TLo is absolutely right in their assessment IMO, but something about her pretty and happy face makes me like this more than what said assessment would coalesce into.

    • sugarkane105

      Nice vocab.

      • Little_Olive

Lawyer at work – can’t separate things. But thanks!!

        • Sarah

We must never separate our vocabulary from anything. Therein lies the downfall of civilization.

          • marlie

I wish I could “upvote” this a thousand times.

  • It was cold last night. How is she wearing shorts and not trembling? (Those shoes are a gorgeous color, though.)

  • MilaXX

I dislike the bag. One of those cute Prada bags from the previous post would have worked better. I also agree the blush is bad, but the real culprit is the blouse. It’s the wrong shape. I think a more form fitting top instead of this billowy shirt would have worked better. I must say though, she’s got some really nice legs.

  • marlie

She/her stylist decided that since shorts really worked for her That One Time, they’re now her go-to look. Unfortunately, that’s a mistake. I’m really, really not trying to be mean, but those shorts are horribly unflattering. And it looks like she borrowed the blouse from my grandmother. Nothing about this works for me, including the accessories and makeup. Sorry, Lizzie.

  • Shorts are never appropriate at the office, even on Casual Days. I do hope her meetings went well though.

    • Tashina Savage

I always look for your comments. You never disappoint.

  • Bexxx

You guys, I’m at the REALLY INTENSE point in my West Wing rewatch (spoiler!) where Zoey has been kidnapped and Toby’s babies were just born and I was up until 2 marathoning it and I just got a little teary seeing this picture of Zoey all safe and sound. I need help. And sleep.

    • filmcricket

Aw, that was such a good episode. They’d really fallen far from the heights of S1 & 2 at that point, but I remember being on the edge of my seat for that entire hour.

  • Tatiana Luján

I really don’t like the combination of that navy with that salmon.

    • alyce1213

      Hideous combo.

  • decormaven

Doll babies wish they had such rosy cheeks. As for the look, too much matchy-matchy and the purse is a headscratcher.

  • jjjoy

i miss the blonde on her.

  • melanie0866

Disagree. That saggy blouse and those formal shorts were never going to look cute.

  • VioletFem

Her brown hair is back, Yay! The outfit could have been better, though. A better fitted shirt (or maybe if she had tightened the belt, so that the shirt could stay tucked in) would have made this look more sophisticated. A different color for the shoes (gold perhaps?) would also have helped.

  • Therese Bohn

I actually make Raggedy Ann dolls, but mine are very sweet!

Lizzie still has great legs, I like the blouse. Glad her hair isn’t blond anymore.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She’s at a fashion show and dinner and THIS is what she wears? I can’t with the ” Mad Men” ladies. I just can’t. Three of the most beautiful women on TV, Moss, Jones and Hendricks and they just can’t get it right. And yet Kiernan Shipka has more fashion sense than any of them and always looks great.

    • alyce1213

Kiernan Shipka has more fashion sense than all of them put together.

  • uprightcitizen

It’s been a bit chilly in the evenings out here in Cal., and she is wearing shorts. I wonder if that’s why her blush looks so bright? Maybe her cheeks are naturally rosy behind the blush. I’ve seen a few women lately who have pink cheeks from the cold like we all get, which when amplified by the blush they put on before they left the house, creates a bit of a clown-like look. As a guy, I’m not sure if women try to take into consideration if they’re going to be out in the cold when they apply blush? Should they? It must have been so much simpler to just pinch your own cheeks when you needed a little color.

  • lalahartma

    I think she looks cute!

    • kirkyo

Me too. Love the hair and the color of the top really works.

  • uprightcitizen

Someone should show this pic to the folks over at The Carrie Diaries. This looks a lot more like the 80s than anything they’re trying to sell.

    • colleenjanel

You beat me to it! I was about to say that the purse needs to go to Carrie, STAT.

  • filmcricket

Cute gams, cute face, her hair is back to brown (yay!) and she’s wearing a colour (double yay!). Otherwise, there is nary a good thing to be found about this outfit. I kind of miss her post-breakup tour of tight bandage dresses, looking at this.

  • Janet B

    Cute outfit, but poorly styled.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

Re: Raggedy Ann? Yes. Yes she was.

  • mjude

the top looks like one of those tacky silk shirts I use to wear & would sweat so bad in it! LOL

  • bellafigura1

Agree on all points but I’m happy to see her as a brunette again and I just love her face, on principle.

  • Jackie4g

Love her brunette and love her in that blue.

  • alyce1213

It looks sloppy, no effort, and I cannot stand the color combo. I also hate the matchy pumps.

  • jmorino08

  • E. D.

    Ugh. I hate dress shorts.

  • colleenjanel

Ditch the bag and tone down the cheeks, and I really don’t hate this look. I hate it for this event, but otherwise I think she looks really cute.

  • lillyvonschtupp

    Oh honey, NO!

  • cocohall

The colors are pretty together and I do like her hair (color and style) but my love ends there. Shorts are really dicey to pull off, especially in late fall, and especially for a more formal occasion. Not impossible, but it takes some PhD level styling to work. This feels like cutest co-ed at the community college. Sweet, but not quite hitting the mark. Love her smile though. Extra Credit for that for sure!

  • PowerfulBusiness

Her hair looks super cute…and more than that, it’s back to Peggy Olson hair! Let the Mad Style countdown begin!!!

  • Trickytrisha

Dang it, I want the blonde back. That haircut really suits her though. A fitted blouse and less droopy belt would have helped here.

  • andi56

I see people dressing this schlubby on the Metro every morning. It’s really annoying, but those people don’t know any better! C’mon, Lizzy Moss! You have stylists!

  • nannypoo

How could she possible fuck up her blush to this extent for a public appearance? Unbelievable.

I loved my Raggedy Ann. My sister went through a phase where she put lipstick on everything – the wall, the carpet, my Raggedy Ann – and I have never forgiven her. I still have the doll and I still have the sister, but it will never be the same.

  • Miss WKS

Looks like Xenu got the better of her….

  • I like her better as a blonde. At any rate, it’s her skin and eye color that make her so pretty, and her gentle-sounding voice. The hard look of the bouffant hairdo in the 60s as Peggy Olsen does very little for Elisabeth. She still looks pretty here. I like this casual look. Her legs look nice in the shorts.

  • trisker

You guys are hysterical today! I’ve laughed out loud at every post!

  • judybrowni

Umm, it’s the end of October even here in L.A., weather is in the 60s during the day, so…blush pink shorts?

Paired with a navy office temp blouse?,

    Oh, Peggy, Peggy.

  • stacey

Dear Kiernan, Please give the phone numbers of your stylists and make up people to the other Mad Men ladies. It is embarrassing that you are the only one who gets it right most of the time.( Except for the penis go round dress discussed on the latest post about you.)

    • lobsterlen

      And proper standing lessons too.

I HATE the way Elizabeth is standing in this photograph. She is grown women and not a shy12 year old pigeon toed girl. If the actual girl actress from Mad Men can stand like an adult you can too Elizabeth!!! Standing like a girl doesn’t make you look younger.

  • msdamselfly

She looks darling. Love the blouse.

  • ThaliaMenninger

This is an improvement for her, even with all its faults. I’m behind it.

  • Tashina Savage

I shouldn’t like this, but I do. I feel like only she could make this look work.

  • not applicable

Aw, kinda bitchy about the blush… She looks really pretty.
