It’s stiff and bulky in the bust, but I like it anyway. I love it with the pants.

    • tereliz

LOVE it with the pants, too, but she’s too petite for them. I like it as a cocktail dress, just not as styled here.

    • I thought a similar thing: it’s a terribly stiff dress, but I still want it.

  • Not a hugely successful transition from the runway to the red carpet – not that I want to see matching pants and boots under it. I think shortening up the back means it looks a bit accidental, rather than playing up the contrasting lining in the mullet skirt. Plus the bodice is all a bit stiff and awkward. I love these sorts of brocades but I just don’t think this is working.

  • RussellH88

The only word I can really come up with is “Nice”.

It’s nothing amazing, but it’s solid.

    • Julie Ree

      Not thrilling… but nice.

  • MilaXX

    Looks like she’s wearing drapery

  • ChaCha_70

I think this choice of shoe is too delicate. This dress needs something more solid.

    • decormaven

Yes, a different shoe with more detail really would have sold this outfit. That’s such heavy, ornate fabric- it needs a shoe to stand up to its weight.

      • understateddiva

plus the shape practically points to the shoes!

  • Diego!

It’s a big improvement from the red carpet version without those pants/boots. She looks very nice!

  • OH! I really like this. It’s visually interesting, it’s youthful without the pants, I like the delicate shoe to balance the heavy fabric and I love the peeps of gold.

  • Why does that dress hate your boobs, doll?

  • 8daysmeg

I like the dress but the face feels seriously off to me. She looks gorgeous but something about the lip color and the smoky eye just doesn’t work with her hair.

  • Mudskipper

What’s wrong with the top designers nowadays? The vertical princess seams on this dress are well placed and necessary for shaping, but the vertical central seam is just ugly and absolutely, totally, offensively unnecessary. I may think the fabric is very narrow, but the skirt says otherwise. My grandma, the tailor, would never cut dress like this in the middle of the front.

    • And if she did I bet she’d do a proper job of matching the pattern on the seams.

  • GillianHolroyd

She’s not really suited to this type of look.

  • Jacquelyn

Not a fan of the pants, so glad she nixed those. I’m not loving the shoes.

  • quiltrx

Looks cheaply made, and really not flattering in the bust with all that bulk.

  • BrooklynBomber

I’m not sure why I hate that dress as much as I do.

    • demidaemon

I am. It’s kind of ugly.

      • BrooklynBomber

        That must be it.

  • sagecreek

Am I the only person here who has no idea who this is?

I guess she looks nice. Nothing spectacular.

    • Jessica Freeman

      I don’t know her either.

      • sagecreek

Thanks! One thing (among the many things) I love about T-Lo is that I kinda sorta have a clue as to who is on the radar. Left to my own, I’d just be muttering here among the stacks of Georgette Heyer novels.

    • mommyca

I guess you don’t have little kids…. 🙂 she is from a Disney channel show “Jessie”; plays constantly in my house (it is a pretty funny show)

      • random_poster

Yup. We Mom’s have insight into a world that we really have no business keeping up with.

        • mommyca

          You’re absolutely right! Hahaha!

    • Ashley Alvarez

Seriously. I kept looking and thought ‘what is a debby ryan???’

    • Carleenml

No idea, but I didn’t think anyone born after 1980 was named Debby anymore.

    • demidaemon

No. I thought about posting what you said but prevented myself.

    • BrooklynBomber

      You are not alone.

  • Jessica Freeman

It had great potential, but the heaviness of the fabric kinda ruins it. The shape of that dress needs a more light and flowy look to it.

  • Cheryl

I like both versions, the matching pants and boots are more edgy looking and interesting than the dress alone, but I think the entire outfit would have been too overwhelming on a non-model, so she or her stylist were right to jettison them.
I really do love the fabric, reminds me of a cheongsam.

  • random_poster

I like the dress and shoes. Something strange is going on in her make-up. She doesn’t look very fresh. Hang-over?

    • mlle

Wrong lip colour for her hair and complexion. If you hold something over the lips to hide them, her makeup improves by leaps and bounds.

  • HM3

I’ve seen this “far-eastern silk motif” (not knowing the proper terminology to describe it) on everyone, from waitresses to celebrities, and IMHO, it has a tendency to look either extremely luxe or extremely cheap. If this were styled properly (hair needs to be up, the mullet-hem-yellow is distracting, and the shoes are wrong), it may have been better.

  • Erica_Vuitton

That is certainly some fancy wrapping paper she’s got on.

  • alyce1213

I like it much better on the runway with pants. The fabric is not so nice — I’ve seen a million more beautiful embroidered silks.

  • amaranth16

The fabric is absolutely gorgeous. I’m not sure what it is about the proportions that look a bit awkward on her – maybe a shorter hem in the front would have lengthened her a bit? And girl, that is not your lip color. I’m not sure candy pink is ever right for a hazel-eyed redhead; at the very least, it’s not right for her. She has such beautiful coloring but her makeup here clashes with it terribly.

  • hellkell

Not a fan of the dress, but I want those boots in the runway pic.

  • sunflower

Girl, that’s not your hair color. The dress is ‘meh.’ The fit is off and it looks a bit cheap

  • marlie

I like the dress better without the pants, but it’s still just “OK” on Debby. I also hate the styling on the model, so if this were a challenge, Debby would win by default. Oh – and I hate Debby’s shoes.

  • Linda LaPaz

Needs to be shortened and worn with the pants.

  • If they ever do a movie where Christina Hendricks has a daughter, Ms. Ryan should get the part. (Not that it’s chronologically feasible, but that’s never deterred any casting director.)

  • formerlyAnon

The ensemble on the model is something special, but this is just a nice dress. I don’t know if the full ensemble could be altered and fitted to work with her proportions, though. Certainly she’s too short to wear it in a standard sample size.

  • i don’t hate it, I think I would go with “fine” only to forget it the next second. but does she have an allergy for jewellery?

  • Krysta

Without the killer pants it’s just kind of awkward.

  • MissusBee

That’s Selena Gomez with a red wig on, right?

  • bertkeeter

GOD…girl take your hand off your hip!

  • Deedles

I love the dress, but I had to look at the whole thing for a bit to realize what is off. Now, bear with me because I have a nine year old son and am familiar with this young lady’s work on the Disney Channel over the past few years. This is the lightest/most copper her hair has ever been and I think that (coupled with the coral lip color) is really throwing everything off north of the neck. I think the eye makeup and lip color would work if her hair was its “usual” color (which also isn’t her natural color).
