Darby Stanchfield Style Double Shot

Posted on October 24, 2013

Miss Darby has been burning up the red carpets ever since the new season of “Scandal” launched, not content to let Miss Kerry have the style spotlight all to herself. It’s time we shined it on her for once.

“Scandal” star Darby Stanchfield at the 2013 Environmental Media Awards in a Chagoury Couture dress paired with Stuart Weitzman shoes.

Okay, maybe this wasn’t the best choice to start off. The main part of the dress is okay, but just okay. The illusion netting – complete with moles! – is really where this falls apart. A shame, because she’s so pretty and if it didn’t have the figure-skating qualities, this dress would work really well for her. The shoes are kinda bleh. We adora a classic black pump but we get a little tired of seeing them on the red carpet so much.

This one’s a little more fun and youthful. We appreciate the pops of blue, but wish she didn’t feel restricted to just the one color for her accessories. We like this, but the pants could use an extra inch or two and the cutouts at the waist need to not exist. Also: another disappointing shoe choice.

  • She gives good face.

  • RussellH88

I think the first look is kinda pretty, but I kinda hate the second. Those cutouts just look weird.

Depending on the picture, she either looks exactly like Marcia Cross or original face Nicole Kidman.

    • I keep seeing Evan Rachel Wood.

    • Meredith

You didn’t just say “original face Nicole Kidman” did you?…oo…sad 🙁

  • She makes really interesting lipstick choices.

(This is me being as nice as I get, because frankly, I hate both looks.)

    • demidaemon

I’m with you. Both are problematic in their own ways 1: The cancerous illusion netting/sheer crap in the bodice. 2) The waist cutouts. My positive comment for her is that they don’t emphasize her tininess in a way that makes her look sick, as some of her other outfits have.

      • Sarah

Yeah, “complete with moles” was pretty apt for me. Yick.

    • SugarSnap108

I was going to say she has pretty eyes, for the niceness reasons you cite.

  • another_laura

The white look is totally yuckville. Bad fabric, ugly cutouts, not the right shoe, and also white nailpolish? Wow. Start over, young lady!

  • Rand Ortega

    Look 2: Moth Couture.
I actually like the 1st look. The Trompe l’oeil netting is interesting.
Besides, hope this isn’t derogatory but, I love a hot red head.

    • Sarah

Thank you. (It isn’t if you are one)

  • I like her face & hair in the first dress, although the dress itself is problematic. Moles, indeed! Very funny. The second….uh, getup….is tres unflattering and this time her face & hair are not helping. I hate it when hair parts are not straight. The lipstick is too red, also. As you pointed out, the blue is a nice accessorizing choice and much appreciated rather than the all-too-common default black. Probably nothing can really rescue a white jumpsuit, when you get right down to it.

  • Tatiana Luján

I totally and unabashedly love the second look, she looks sassy.
It’s a shame that illusion netting makes you look old enough to have wrinkles in your arms and bust area.

  • decormaven

What a pity- her hair color and complexion are so fine, and neither of these outfits truly sets these attributes off with style. The illusion netting is too close to her skin tone in the first look, and the second outfit is incorrectly accessorized. Some kickier shoes might have saved the second look.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

Shouldn’t the illusion netting always be close to the skin color? That’s basically the point, right?

Too bad the spots weren’t red… I hear chicken pox is going to be so chic this spring.

  • teensmom99

I am a hater of illusion netting and of moles . . . but somehow I love the top dress. It just seems like a good match for her–maybe less couture and more like what people I know wear (when they get fancy) which also excuses the shoes which are perfect plain black shoes . . . even if uninteresting.

  • Rhonda Shore

I guess there’s a reason why you’re focusing on Miss Kerry.

  • MilaXX

I almost like both looks despite the timid shoe choice , but the jumpsuit is ruined by the weird gut cut outs.

  • boweryboy

I’ll take a classic pump on the red carpet over bear trap shoes any day. Illusion netting and bad hair aside, the first outfit is refreshing.
I will say nothing of that white jumpsuit.

  • Imasewsure

No and No… mole-y yuck and youthful yuck

  • kimmeister

In the white look, her torso has nostrils. Not good.

    • BKagainwiththesweatpants

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! THIS. Now I cannot unsee them. She is so pretty, but girl needs her a gay. We would all breathe easier if she got one.

  • lunchcoma

Illusion netting can go away now.

  • Mismarker

TLo, do you watch Scandal? If so, would you consider covering it on the blog? It is so bonkers. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

  • ShaoLinKitten

First outfit: widow’s weeds for the billionth time
Second outfit: check out the tablecloth I saved from the shredder and fashioned into an ugly jumpsuit

  • marlie

Surprisingly, I love the first dress on her. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s really pretty. I’m having more trouble getting behind the second look. A white, sleeveless, capri-length jumpsuit with cutouts? In October? On what is probably the coldest day of the season thus far? Yes, I know she’s in LA, but I’m cold just looking at her.

  • NoveltyRocker

Something about the jumpsuit makes it look flimsy and unfinished but she’s giving off so much more vibrancy in the second look. The first is accessorized to call zero attention, like a dowdy, old-fashioned Sunday outfit, which is weird because there is skin on display.

  • jen

I actually like the black dress. It’s really pretty.

  • Trickytrisha

I’m not sure I remember seeing a celeb wearing an outfit that highlighted her slender ankles like this. Here we have two such looks. Ankles were a big deal in the Victorian era, IIRC.

Anyhoo, this lovely lady could probably benefit from some better fashion advice. She pretty much has the face and hair down pat.

  • Aidan B

I would have thought this was two different people. She looks 10 years older in that first outfit.

  • formerlyAnon

I feel your criticisms are just. Also, neither of the hairstyles seem polished enough, somehow.

  • Guest

I find her not to be a good actress; she over emotes and stretch her jaw bone while crying beyond belief.

    • I don’t know why, but I truly love this comment. It’s random and highly specific at the same time.

  • Zubair Ghumro

I find her not to be a good actress; she over emotes and she tends to move her jaw bone in a weird way in emotional scenes.

  • Candice Booth

    Her skin is amazing.

  • livesarah

The wrinkles in the illusion netting make me feel like she is a reptile about to shed her old skin.

  • quiltrx

That first dress is a total Monet. First glance, I loved the main portion and was confused by the neckline/arms. Up close, it looks cheaply made and not nearly as elegant as that first glance made me suspect.
No opinion on the second look, other than she seems to be trying to look like KiKi.

    • e jerry powell

There you go. That’s what I had in my head, but with word.

  • Diego!

The first dress looks a little bit custom-y and her hair and make up are not helping either… I love her second outfit, make up and hair, she looks young, fresh and fun 🙂

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Hate the second look. Like the first one, but that dotted illusion netting ruins it.

  • vitaminC

Aldo shoes on a red carpet?!

  • Nicola Anna Molly Page

Anybody else see Ugly Betty’s Amanda in the second outfit? She looks just like her rocking that…. fashiony thing.

  • Constant Reader

I dislike both looks, which is a shame because she is GORGEOUS and deserves better.

  • bellafigura1

I love the dress and agree about the shoe, just boring.

This is another example of how a woman with very delicate coloring and features gets swallowed by white.

Recently I was REALLY low on cash and debts were eating me from all sides! That was UNTIL I decided to make money.. on the internet! I went to surveymoneymaker dot net, and started filling in surveys for cash, and surely I’ve been far more able to pay my bills!! I’m so glad, I did this.. – oy2y
