I think she looks pretty, if washed out. What’s going on with those black roots though??

    • homofascist

Isn’t there some Uncle rule about not wearing dresses the color of your skin?

    • lobsterlen

I am not sure how this is possible but the dress makes Dakota look hippy and washed out. Any dress that makes Dakota look wide through the hips should be burned. Imagine what it do to a mortal woman.

    • zenobar

Very Fortuny, but can we get a belt or some jewelry up in this joint?

      • Clueless_Jock

Yes this needs some kind of visual snap to temper all that pink softness.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

She reminds me of an unripe peach. Put her in a brown paper bag until her color comes up a bit.

      • kirkyo

        omg.

      • Adriana_Paula

        Best comment ever sir.

    • mjude

oh dear. it looks so big on her doesn’t it?

      • Rhonda Shore

It’s either not fitted properly and/or absolutely “girl, ain’t your dress.” And matching the color to her skin tone…

      • ampg

The “standing in a hole” hem length isn’t helping, either.

    • Janet B

This is probably a beautiful gown

      • BrooklynBomber

        Haha.

      • MoHub

        But not on Dakota.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

It totally washes her out. She could use a little color both on the dress and on her face. And speaking of the face, translucent finishing powder is your friend!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Aaaaand we’re back to this. Sigh. She is such a disappointment.

      • http://myriameron.blogspot.com/ Heron

I’m thinking she needs an “of course” at this point.

    • PostsYouCanDanceTo

I wonder why the Fanning sisters are so drawn to ethereal, flimsy, ghostly-pale dresses with hair and makeup to match. That Prada mess that Elle wore a while back was so dreadful, there must be some strong, psychological pull towards these kind of looks. I think the motivation goes beyond taste.

      • boweryboy

Out of curiosity, where do you shop? Or what designers are you buying, if you go the designer route?

        • PostsYouCanDanceTo

No real store, specifically. And I don’t have the cash for designers. But I’m always on the lookout for hardware (rivets, studs, industrial zippers, the like), epaulets, structured shoulders, I also like deconstruction, and lightweight pieces that i can use to build up layers (I’m fond of viscose/rayon). Whenever military is on trend, I go nuts.

I’ve had success with Express, Armani Exchange, Macy’s Inc, Zara, skater shops like Buckle and Tilly’s plus one called Sun Diego that I’ve always liked (I am extremely immature and will dress age-inappropriately until the day I die. That is my right as a citizen),

When I’m fantasizing about luxury, I do my window shopping at a website called Luisaviaroma. I’m obsessed with , Givenchy, John Galliano, Gareth Pugh, Ann Demeulemeester, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe, Comme des Garcon, Jil Sander, Calvin Klein and Helmut Lang (but I don’t think they do menswear anymore).

Interstingly, I don’t like Hedi Slimane’s work for Saint Laurent. It looks downscaleand doesn’t feel very special, and it’s Yves St. Laurent now and forever with me.

    • MilaXX

      Why?

    • boweryboy

(Based on a previous convo with some Bitter Kittens) I will say she needs a bitch slap of color in her ensemble.

    • hughman

Bubble : “You look very faint. Like a photo copy that’s running out of ink.”

    • tereliz

      Of course.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Yep. She has earned her own.

    • Joe Schmartin

Good Lord, woman – you’re blonde, you’re pale, you’re wearing a gown the color of white peach flesh; would it kill ya to look into a dark, smoky eye?

    • Kelly

Yep, it’s powder pink, all right. Sure enough. Powder pink.

Way too big. She looks like a kid playing dress-up in mom’s prom gown.

      Plus shiny-face. Plus nothing hair.

    • kcnitch

Not again! She wears color a couple times last month, and then she’s right back to this. So disappointing. And the amount of dark roots she’s sporting looks ridiculous.

      • Loola234

Maybe she should try to work dark hair for a while…clearly, the color she has going on, well, on ~90% of her hair, does not suit her. It’s possible she could rock the very pale fabrics if she had hair the color of her roots…

        • kcnitch

I think you’re right, the no-color outfits would look better with dark hair.

    • conniemd

Fanning and “powder pink creme de chine” says it all.

    • KinoEye

In this new bitter kitten’s (ill-informed) opinion, whoever styles Miss Dakota doesn’t seem to realize how much potential she has to pull off styles that are much more edgy/different, for lack of a better phrase. TLo recently described her as a modern Lilian Gish and they were right on the money. She has such an interesting look, and it’s not served well at all by the bland, standard gowns I usually see her in on the RC. Her makeup usually leaves something to be desired too. And while she looks good with her natural blonde, that dark hair she was sporting last year was absolutely stunning on her. She should consider changing over again. Such a pretty girl, but so much wasted potential.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

        Welcome.

    • TweeAsFuck

      Needs a belt.

    • FeminineLipstique

Aaaaand we are back to our regularly scheduled program of pale neutrals, wispy textures, and flat straight hair for Dakota Fanning. At least there’s a little color… in her face. Not even the clutch offers any bit of visual interest.

    • Karen Belgrad

Awwww….. Dakota decided to go as Casper for Halloween!!! So cute that she still trick or treats.

      • Trickytrisha

Yep, the minute I saw this pic, I starting singing “Casper the Friendly Ghost, the friendliest Ghost you know” lalala.

    • JasmineAM

      Perfect for “Whiteboard”.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Get thy roots to the salon young lady!

    • nannypoo

Usually when we see something as bad as this it’s because the victim got into someone else’s closet or did something new and unflattering with her hair or wore a dress that’s too short and too tight or wore too much makeup. None of those things happened here. No one would look good in this big, unflattering dress, her hair is the same shitty style as usual with even more dark roots, and her face is shiny and badly in need of some color. She is just not paying attention to us.

    • In_Stitches

Great dress for showcasing some awesome jewelry. Clearly she was mugged on her way to the show.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

How long is her audition for Mina Harker going to last?

      • another_laura

        BWAH! exactly!

    • Imasewsure

Is something on my screen? I just see a pink blur…

    • RussellH88

Too much pale for my screen. It’s like if she and Grace Jones touched they would rip a hole in time and space.

      • catlover2x

Hilarious. I want to see this.

        • RussellH88

I tend to save that comparison for Tilda Swinton, because I think Tilda Swinton and Grace Jones are complete and total inversions of each other. They’re like ying and yang. Their dual existences keep the universe in balance.

          • catlover2x

            I love how you think.

          • marlie

They’re the opposite spectrum of fierceness. Both weirdly androgynous, with tremendous personal senses of style. Good call!

      • Daxx2513

I was going to say “photo-negative Kerry Washington”, but yours works too.

    • kipper

How sweet that she still plays dress up! Hope her mom does not get mad

    • tired_mommy

Sissy Spacek from Carrie at the prom before the blood….

    • SewingSiren

Sweet. And a little creepy. I like it.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

The eye is drawn to areas of high contrast, which would be her roots. I do think this is a lovely color on her beautiful skin.

    • VioletFem

The dress is too big and too colorless.

    • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.com/ Catherine

She REALLY likes the washed-out look, doesn’t she?

    • appliquer

      Nightgown

    • mmebam

Bless her heart, if I didn’t see her roots, I wouldn’t know she was there.

      • lalahartma

Exactly! Thank dog for the roots to provide some contrast.

    • Sara__B

Typical Fanning. Shiny face – check. Gown matches skin – check. Limp center part hair with highly visible roots – check. Little to no styling – check.

    • marlie

OMG, wear a g-damn color, fer chrissake. Aside from her roots, she is practically the same color from head to toe.

    • DominoEstella

      YAWN…

    • Myra Amler

This girl is 19 and never seems to wear anything that is fun. She always seems to pick lovely shades of oatmeal.

    • KT

      ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

    • quiltrx

The only way this would look good is covered in pigs’ blood at the prom.

    • Sadie-Ann

She looks like a very pretty ghost.

    • ItsDicey

Oh god, more ghost dresses. Not the way to go for us fair folks.

    • ThesisMonkey

      Nooooooooo

    • ThaliaMenninger

      Limp. Listless. Wan. Unpleasant. No.
