Cover Girl: Claire Danes for Vogue UK Magazine

Posted on October 03, 2013

Miss Claire gets the pretty-girl lighting for the cover of Vogue UK:

“Homeland” star Claire Danes covers the November 2013 issue of Vogue UK magazine in Louis Vuitton photographed by Nathaniel Goldberg and styled by Clare Richardson.

Works for us. It’s so nice to see her face looking relaxed, because after watching a full hour of Carrie Mathison trying desperately to tamp down her manic phase on the season premiere of Homeland, our own faces were sore from the tension. She must need regular facial massages during the shooting schedule. We’re not kidding. She’s famous for her cry-face, but frankly, her I’m-losing-it-face is mesmerizing (if painful after an hour) and it looks like they’re going to be asking her to do a lot more of it this season.

Love the coat. Maybe not the way the model is wearing it, but it looks great on Claire.

Pretty enough. She looks a teensy bit worried though… don’t know if she is all that relaxed.

    • Donna Tabor

That’s because she’s sitting in the dentist’s chair, clearly.

  • charlotte

Look, they photoshopped her back to her Juliet days! But she looks nice and I agree that it’s good to see a relaxed face on her.

  • Qitkat

From a UK magazine, one of the loveliest portraits of a beautiful American woman I’ve seen in some time.

  • Jessica Freeman

I think she looks lovely. Sometimes easy breezy is nice to see instead of the hard core fashion spreads.

    • GreenTurtle

They’re definitely evoking fall in a lovely, easy way.

    • Qitkat

I’m so drawn in by the shades of blues and the perfect color of lipstick, and the artfully casual healthy hair. And those eyes.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

I’m proud to say I have a Claire Danes nose 😀

    • JDreesen

having a laugh – the first thing i did was look to your avatar for confirmation.

    • Constant Reader

Do you keep it in a box on your dresser?

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

        Doesn’t everybody?

  • Diego!

Pretty. Photoshop seems to soften her face in her case. Cool.

  • oat327

Claire looks great. That model looks homeless.

    • kimmeister

The clogs with that jacket turn the whole look into “slippers and bathrobe.”

      • random_poster

Exactly. Who thought that was a good way to advertise a product?

  • shirab

I just realized she’s sitting in a car. Wonder what kind?

  • hughman

Her left face says “I’m worried. Are you getting enough rest?”. Her right face says “If you don’t bring me a grande latte right now I will go ballistic on your ass.”

    • Loola234

The left eyebrow, in particular, has a lot to say…

I’ve realized–by reading this blog–that a good cover garment doesn’t equal good fashion necessarily. The texture of a garment and the way it photographs close up contributes to beautiful, colorful cover art that has little to do with being stylish or fashion-forward. This coat and dress look fabulous on Claire on this cover, but they’re rather ugly on the runway model. No shape.

It was easy to see that Claire Danes would be a big star when she was on “My So-called Life.” She can say a million things with a slight movement of a face muscle, as she did as Beth in “Little Women.” She probably had the smallest part of all the sisters but her performance stood out.

I can get exhausted watching Homeland. It is intense, and I don’t know how Claire Danes gets through each season. She’s giving great face here. Look at those intense blue eyes with her soft face.

Me too. That’s why clothes that are very “editorial”, according to Nina Garcia, or costumy often appear on magazine covers or photospreads. The runway isn’t a posed look and shows the full length of an outfit. On the cover here, we see only a bit of the coat and dress, and mostly what attracts are the blues and the breeziness of the look. Similarly a lot of shots are posed in a way to accentuate certain parts of clothes, without the whole look. The pose maximizes the good parts and eliminates the flaws and also we’re not looking at a star posed in a black filmy outfit that barely covers her good china and thinking, “who would wear that in public?” We are taking in the artistic effect of the clothing and the star and admiring it, or not, as the case may be.

  • Karen Belgrad

I didn’t realize I missed her “Jordan Catalano is dreamy” face until now…

  • Ms_Flyover

Gives definition to “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Cover Girl.”

  • MilaXX

I’d love to see that coat paired with some skinny jeans

    • decormaven

Yes! So glad Claire is wearing it well; the designer’s model is not doing that coat justice.

    • housefulofboys

I’d love to see that coat on me!

  • Sarah Thomas

It seems like they only did her left eyebrow. And she and Bryan Cranston both deserve special Emmys for their facial muscles.

  • JaCory Deon

It’s very nice, photoshop or not. Whatever she’s doing, she’s aging beautifully, especially when you consider Romeo & Juliet was what 20 years ago.

    • marlie

Now why did you have to go and say something like that? I had to imdb it because I was certain that you were wrong, only to find that you’re only a couple of year off (it was 1996). OY.

    • Sara

She really is getting so much more beautiful as she gets older.

    • lundibleu

Yet another one of those things that makes me feel old! See also: Jurassic Park 20 years ago, Friends – 20 years ago, Robocop – 30 years ago…

  • Malve Lyborg

    I love this coat.

  • Tatiana Luján

the ashy blinde suits her way better than the yellow she tends to dye her hair with.

  • demidaemon

This is a cover I would gravitate to on a newsstand. Simply, comfortably beautiful.

  • sleah_in_norcal

she looks like a lovely normal girl. but that’s not really her look, is it?

  • Kristin McNamara

Holy cow. Would not have guessed that was Claire Danes. (Not because it doesn’t look like her or anything, but just because this person is the SPITTING IMAGE of Clémence Poésy!!!) If you do not know who that is, go google it. It is utterly shocking to me how much that cover looks like Clémence.

  • Erica_Vuitton

I am drooling over that coat! I would’ve guess Chanel not LV, that’s interesting….

  • kathrineb

She’s awesome I rate her as an actress and she looks soft and pretty here.

  • PeaceBang

    I want her lipstick.
