Chloë Moretz in Valentino at the Carrie World Premiere

Posted on October 08, 2013

We suppose it would have been too much to ask for her to show up in a pale pink gown with spaghetti straps and red splotches all over it, but we have to admit, we’re disappointed.

Chloë Moretz attends the “Carrie” World Premiere in Hollywood, California in a Valentino gown.

What a swampy-looking dress. We think the color could work for her, because it does seem to make her eyes pop, but the somewhat dreary design and the smudgey print combined with that moldy green does not an enticing look make. It’s possible she was going for some sort of take on a gothic horror gown, but it’s not really working. And besides, Carrie‘s not really gothic horror.

Hair and makeup are pretty, but that’s about all we like here.

her hair is a horror movie in itself

    • Karen Belgrad

The waist seam makes all the prom kids cry.

      • mshesterp

It really does. It makes her look all boxy and lumpy, which she is not. Is it…satiny underneath? Bleh. And it’s too long. Oh, Chloe–go home and try again. She doesn’t even look that excited to be wearing it.

        • Karen Belgrad

The word that came to my mind was stumpy… it cuts her right in half and she’s way too short torso-ed for that!

        • MilaXX

Agreed, she’s a bit short waisted and she also has a short neck. The cut of this dress just emphasizes both of those issues.

    • Victor Beiramar Diniz

“carrie, a vegetarian sustainable horror movie” where buckets of pig blood are replaced with a mud bath and fungal infection…

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

The crazy religious mother was free-range and locally sourced, I hear.

    • TigerLaverada

First word that popped into my head was dowdy, but swampy is truly accurate. Dunno about the hair — a lot of work to end up looking so messy and unkempt.

      • 3boysful

I was thinking Wednesday Addams’ prom dress. It does look mouldy.

    • http://www.luxperdiem.com/ Paige @ LPD

Looks like mold. Makes me wanna clean out my fridge.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

That dress needs a dose of Elavil, stat. it looks like its terribly depressed.

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

It mostly hides her dirty pillows, and that’s what really matters.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

Now, see, my love goes right back to you for “Dirty Pillows”. There really are just a million “Carrie” jokes we can make with this gown, aren’t there? It’s a good thing…

        • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

          :o)

Honestly can’t believe no one got there before me. I think it might be mandatory to make a “dirty pillows” joke for every dress she wears from now until her next movie comes out.

          • NYCGlamourpuss

My best friend from high school and I used to quote anything and everything from this movie. She had a dog named Rebel, who used to rush to the door and jump up and down with happiness whenever anyone came to their house. So one day, I show up, Rebel runs to the door and does his happy leaps, and when my friend came to the door, I said, “Reb… I might have known it would be Reb…”

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Before I even read what you said, TLo, I thought, “I wish this was a Carrie prom gown….”

Not loving this. Very old lady, very “Little Prom on The Prairie.” She’s too young for such a dowdy dress.

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

“Little Prom on the Prairie” made coffee come out of my nose. You win.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

          Yaaay! Thank you, hon!

    • capybara_cafe

      What’s with all the rings??

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

The kids are having a Phoebe Buffay moment with the jewelry.

    • SewingSiren

I am in favor of the entire look. Hair to toe. Can’t help loving the dress. Very appropriate for the opening of a remake of a horror classic.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Ditto. So often the complaint about her is that she looks too “stylist assembled” and I think this looks like a look she put together herself.

    • Julie Chase

Oof. This looks dreary and musty. I just got seasonal affective disorder from looking at it.

    • Sara Brams-Miller

      Such a shame.

    • Introspective

why does this feel like a sale rack bridesmaid’s gown? in the ugliest, swampiest color for the bride to have no competition on the big day?

    • ewes_urn_aim

“They’re all gonna laugh at you! They’re all gonna laugh at you!”

      • NYCGlamourpuss

See? I mean, the Carrie quotes are just irresistible!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

What? I love this. She’s more youthful than she normally dresses, she’s got a bit of a gothy edge without trying too hard, the hair, nails and jewelry are very on trend, her makeup is gorgeous. When I was her age and having to get fancy, I would have gone along these routes. Not in Valentino, mind you, but long, dark, and romantic. Add to all that the whole, dressing to reference the movie thing that seems to be happening, and it’s perfectly done.

    • Constant Reader

My hair looks exactly like that this morning. I slept with it in a braid.

    • Diego!

I agree, hair, make up and shoes are worth it. The dress is clearly not for the ocation!

    • Murtada

      the hands are giant

    • RussellH88

Maybe she’s filming a scene at the Bayou Prom for American Horror Story: Coven.

It kind of looks like the dress is covered in fingerprints.

    • decormaven

Pretty girl, nice hairdo, cute shoes. Dress not exactly figure flattering, but it’s acceptable. Just wish this was not another movie reboot; is imagination completely dead?

    • MilaXX

The only thing I like is the hair. The makeup looks a bit consumptive to me like they used one of those all in one products and put the same color on her eyes/cheeks/lips. The dress is too sister wife-y and mature for a young girl.

    • nannypoo

I don’t like the dress or the hair, but her face is fabulous. I always see her with the duckface, but lately she’s smiling and animated. She’s beautiful and she deserves a better dress.

    • Cameron Turner

      Tragic….but love the hair

    • Hilda Elizabeth Westervelt

It looks like one of those horrible Gunny Sack dresses from the 80s that has been submerged in an old cistern for 30 years and is now covered in mold and moss. Which is sort of appropriate, in a weird way. But it is way ugly.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I love the dress. If she were standing up straight and giving it some attitude it’d be amazing. It’ll hurt to brush her hair out tonight though.

    • Bittybis

      Rotting, gangrenous zombie flesh

    • ashtangajunkie

I like her hair, makeup, and nails. The dress needs uppers.

    • marlie

Her hair looks like a rat’s nest. But her makeup is really pretty, and I adore the shoes.

    • Heather

Her moldy gown aside, the juxtaposed head shots of Chloe and Miley, in their respective thumbnails on the home page, make for an astounding contrast.

    • Deedles

Pack it up and send it to Keira Knightly, please.

    • crash1212

I love the messy-side-braidy-hair thing. Wish my hair was long enough to do that. I don’t hate the color or even the print – what’s killing this for me is that waist seam dealio. Would’ve been much better as a one piece column. Good shoe choice.

      • GillianHolroyd

Agree. When I see a waist seam like that, it screams belt so making it a one-piece would’ve been better. Love the hair, love the unusual color of the dress.

    • boweryboy

Her hair is my biggest quibble. It looks like she let a five year old do it.

    • Cloveradams

Someone raided the Olsens’ closet. . .

    • BrooklynBomber

That’s what I was thinking, too: supposed to be gothicy. But. . . no.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I love the dress. But it’s not right for her.

      • Iva

See, I like the *idea* of the dress. I just hate the fabric they rendered it in. That upper layer looks stiff, shiny, and cheap. I wish they had made it look more “expensive,” as Nina and Heidi are so fond of saying.

        • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

It’s hard for me to see exactly what the fabric is. At first I thought it looked vintage. I thought the top was partly transparent. Now that I look again, I honestly don’t know what I’m seeing.

    • tetisheri

Raja has the perfect dress to loan her.

    • ♕ Natalie ♕

Her hair is adorable but that print is off. I think she looks pretty though.

    • ♕ Natalie ♕

The bottom half of the dress is the only thing i have problems with because the dandelion print looks like mould but i definitely think this is very pretty. The hair really sets the whole thing off.

    • Lori

Either her posture is really bad or something about that gown is making it look like her posture is really bad. I’m fighting my inner mom’s urge to poke her and hiss, “Stand up straight!”

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

That sheer netting over the collar bone area gives her weird, large moles. Attractive?

    • jw_ny

Neck up ( wow…look, she does have a neck! ;) ) ..very cute. Love a styled messy do. That dress, otoh, really is dreary.

    • AndreaSkates

The dress looks like it belongs on one of the old ladies in “Arsenic and Old Lace” — all covered up and made doubly-modest with black lace.

    • Paula Pertile

All I can see is mold now.
      Like the shoes though.

    • judybrowni

      Depresso (Prom) Dress.

    • Garcia Loca

It’s a romantic dress, and I rather like it. It would look better if she affected a straighter posture.

    • Qitkat

I am laughing at all the swampy, moldy, fungal comments here, and now I can’t unsee it. If she would only stand up straight (mom, is that you?), I would love the whole look as very appropriate.

    • Let it out

The color of the dress is gorgeous, there’s just too much of it. I don’t get “moldy” at all.

    • http://trooperschaf.blogspot.de/ TrooperSchaf

I actually like the swamp-turned-fabric quite a lot, but the cut is crazy unflattering! there is something weird going on under the bust… like a lot of excess material. In some pictures she looks like she has rolls, that are not there in other pictures. this dress needed proper fitting!!

      Love the hair!!

    • Terri Terri

I always think she looks like that guy Jimmy Darmody on Boardwalk Empire. They could be siblings.

    • oohsparkley!

I like the color, but not the print or the style.

    • Monabel

All true. And yet, I would buy some of that fabric. It would set off my greying hair.

    • sagecreek

Oh, dear. I see she has signed up at the Lena Dunham School of Posture.

    • Adriana_Paula

I’m just delighted she put the duck lips away.

    • ShaoLinKitten

She and Kristen Bell should play mother and daughter. The resemblance is eerie.

    • judybrowni

That’s the dress you wear to the Depression Prom, and nowhere else.

    • Gatto Nero

The dress is dour and ill-fitting — it ages her. And it would age an older woman even more.
Who could wear it? (I’m seriously asking.)

    • DeTrop

Looks like she hit granny’s closet. She’s much too young for this dress/gown. Loved her in HUGO.
Why is her hair tucked into the dress?
