Caitlin Fitzgerald in Tadashi Shoji at Elle’s Women in Hollywood Celebration

Posted on October 24, 2013

New girl! Should we break her in gently or haze her?

“Masters of Sex” star Caitlin Fitzgerald attends Elle’s 20th Annual Women In Hollywood Celebration in Beverly Hills, California in a Tadashi Shoji dress paired with Pedro Garcia shoes and Daniel Swarovski clutch.

Who among the kittens is watching Showtime’s Masters of Sex? We are, but we have to admit, it’s sometimes a chore. The critics seem to love it (and to be fair, many seem to be saying that it picks up considerably as it goes along) but we sometimes find it work to make it through an episode. We’ll have a better writeup of our thoughts on the show soon, but we’ll say this: we feel like we’ve missed something if we’re not caught up on the show. It has just enough mood and atmosphere, not to mention an impressive array of talent, for us to call it good television. It’s just not great television. Not yet, anyway.

Anyway, Caitlin here plays the Betty Draper-type character (in a show that has one or two too many obvious Mad Men motifs in its makeup), but she’s found some nuance in the role and her performance is among our favorites in the cast.

As for the look, we dig it. Those would have never been our choice for the shoes (of course), but she’s rocking the shit out of the dress. Love the makeup, because if she tried to do a clean face with this, she’d disappear. Not in love with the hair, but she might be trying to grow it out from her 1950s style from the show.

Beautiful. Except for the hair. The hair is a hell no.

    • Sobaika

      It needs some deep conditioning.

      • ampg

And some serious rethinking of the color choice.

    • Rhonda Shore

There’s no excuse for that hair. Love the dress though.

The hair is, sadly, almost exactly what I am sporting right now, which is making me avoid mirrors and wear hats.

      • Random Compliments

Funny, because it’s almost exactly my hair too. :(
Seeing this pic reminded me to buy conditioner and reconsider my hair color.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Yeah, I’ve really got to go darker again and get the ends trimmed properly!

  • NMMagpie

With that imperious eyebrow of hers, I think the Uncles can unleash on her. She looks like she can take it.

    • 3boysful

I can do that, too, but only with my left eyebrow. Gets a reaction from misbehaving offspring.

  • Kate Andrews

I like the show so far, but it’s not yet love. A little too much “Johnson has a magic vagina” so far, but I have high hopes. I’m glad we’re getting to see a bit more about what makes Dr. Masters tick!

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Oooh. Baby Mia Farrow. Great look.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Tie her up, hold her down, fix her roots, change her shoes and show her the secret hand shake. That’ll teach her.

    • Lori

Maybe toss her a different purse as you’re shooing her back out the door. I don’t hate this one, but I don’t think it was the best choice for this dress.

    • Rhonda Shore

and lighten up the foundation a bit, it looks a bit spackled on.

  • gabbilevy

Like the dress, feeling iffy on the darkdark red lip, cringing over the hair, enjoying the hell out of her show.

  • Scimommy

Whoever she is (don’t have Showtime, don’t watch MoS), I think she’d look 1000X better with dark hair and a pixie cut.

    • Tatiana Luján

      I whloleheartedly agree.

    • RebeccaKW

That shade of blonde is NOT her friend. I agree, based on those eyebrows, she would be so striking with dark hair.

    • Kristin McNamara

Whoever she is, she looks like Drew Barrymore and Lindsay Lohan found a way to procreate.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Safe and perfectly acceptable, (but for the hair, naturally).

  • amber.

the details in the dress match her shoes and match her hair, and that makes my eye twitch. the dress is gorgeous though.

    • TLJezebel

I can’t even see her shoes because they match her spray tan exactly.

  • Jessica Freeman

The satin shoes are pretty bad, right up there with the hair. Her lifesaver is that the dress is stunning on it’s own. There is never an excuse for bad hair.

  • Lorelei_D

Agree that she needs strong-ish makeup for this look, but this seems aging. She usually looks a lot younger than this.

  • Tatiana Luján

She looks beautiful with that dress, she’s wearing it as if the history of fashion had existed for the only purpose of her wearing that dress.
The shoes are ugly, but my problem is with her haircolor. The darker hair you can see growing suits her much better than the blonde she dyed it.

  • mjude

I don’t watch the show but anyhoo I love the dress

  • msprolix

I am of an age/crafty inclination such that I remember Fitzgerald as the knitwear model from *every* *damn* *issue* of Interweave Knits (her mother was the editor-in-chief of the magazine for several years). She was on several covers from 2001-2007, if you want to see her (and her imperious eyebrow) in some fug knitwear.

  • vidacelina

I actually like this hair… Everything is wrong with it but somehow it works with the lips and hair to give the look an edge.

  • Diego!

I love love love this look! It’s perfect for her! I hate those lips and hair too! :D

  • Akmall Razlan

THe dress is good, the make up is amazing but the hair do? What the hell happened to your hairstylist? Is she or he die of something, *Miranda Presley moment. Please!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Great smile (that doesn’t disappear into her face because she has chosen a bold lip instead of a shiny concealer).

  • MilaXX

The hair is tragic, but the look is okay. I’ve never seen the show because it looked kind of boring to me. Maybe I’ll do a marathon viewing once the season is over.

  • French_Swede

Love her makeup. Actually, love everything! The dress is beautiful. She’d be gorgeous as a brunette.

  • Janet B

    Pretty dress

  • Jackie4g

    Two questions:
Why is there no jewelry? When are you getting your roots done?

  • decormaven

Great dress, but make friends with a better hairstylist.

  • ashtangajunkie

I’m coveting that dress. I love a dark lip, but I’m not sure that I love this particular shade on her.

  • boweryboy

I think her lipstick is too harsh. I will say nothing of her roots.

  • Lilithcat

Cut the hair short, or touch up the roots.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I don’t know hold old she is, but I bet she’s not 50, which she looks here. She’s all aging socialite Nina Van Pallandt the heroin addict with the mysterious Italian husband in The Wedding.

  • AzSportsGirl

The mascara is a massive fail. Clumpy. Uneven. Looks like it was applied at a stop light. Not that I would know what THAT looks like. Nothing else is working for me. The yellow in the dress matches the hair.. the parts of the hair that don’t need touch up.
    WOW. I’m bitchy.

  • formerlyAnon

I love the dress. The hair disappoints.

  • C. Rogers

The hair is painful (especially after her beautiful 50′s do) but the rest of her looks lovely. Partner and I have been loving Masters of Sex, actually, although it hasn’t quite found its footing entirely yet (it’s certainly getting closer, though) and I look forward to it every Sunday. I like that they’ve moved away from doing straight Betty Draper with Libby— it seems like the more MoS moves away from Mad Men, the better it does.

  • Gloriana Reginata

I love the dress on her, and even the lipstick works for me – but not the hair. The problem with such decided ombre in a side parting is that the whole left side of her face looks darker than the right. Gotta do a central part if you want to keep those roots showing…

  • Kelly

The dress is sort of meh, the makeup is too harsh, the roots are distracting because they turn her into one of those black-and-white cookies so popular in NY — vanilla on one side, chocolate on the other, with a sharp demarcation in between. But having said all that, I also have to say — wow, what a striking woman. I’ve never heard of her before this minute, but I think I might be having a crush already. She looks like one of those people who is going to age beautifully (and might be even more striking in middle/later age than in youth, like Maggie Smith and Kristin Scott Thomas). I hope future stylists really play up those bones.

  • JulieTy

“it’s sometimes a chore. . . . it picks up considerably as it goes along”
Is not something that should be said about anything having to do with sex.

  • NoveltyRocker

Pretty! The fit of that dress is perfect. The lips are pretty dark but everything is so simple, they aren’t disrupting much. She looks like a Drew Barrymore/Jane Krakowski computer generated face composite.

  • Trickytrisha

Nits will not be picked by me on this lady (ewww, nits!). Yes, the hair seems to be in transition, thus less than optimum, but the rest is peachy keen in my book. Lovely face and very nice dress which, IMO, doesn’t need jewelry to detract from it. Shoes don’t bother me. Hope she stays on our radar, with better hair.

  • Zubair Ghumro

I am the only one who doesn’t like the makeup; lip’s too strong and the face seems divided in patches. I could see dry and wet land on her face.

  • bellafigura1

I’m watching and enjoying, although it does meander a bit. I’m going to stick with it, anything to wean me off my Breaking Bad jones.

  • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Posh and cool – love it

  • E. D.

The shoes are terrible and earrings would help.

  • marlie

I love her dress and her makeup. Her shoes and hair are unfortunate, but this isn’t a bad look for what’s probably one of her first official red carpet appearances.

  • rondele

Any time I see that hair I immediately turn away. It just ruins the look. I don’t know what they’re supposed to do, but it looks awful to me. The dress I love, the shoes, meh. The makeup is heavy but o.k.

  • quiltrx

    That’s a great dress.
    Those roots are tragic.

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Really gorgeous dress which deserved great shoes.

  • Kristobel

I really like the show. Lizzy Caplan is incredible, and I never get enough of the sassy prostitutes. I am waiting for it to find it’s feet, but it has shown some great potential so far.

As for her, she looks amazing, except for that hair. Ooh, girl.

  • calimon

I don’t love this dress on her. I actually see a much older (65+) women wearing this, and, of course, the hair ain’t helping matters. The shoes match her eyeshadow -that’s about all I can say of them.

  • NinjaCate

This outfit is cute. The hair is giving me Ritat Ora though.
The show, I LOVE. It’s great. I’m so amused at how repressed Masters is, and creeped out by how many men on the show seem to be positively OBSESSED with Johnson’s sex life!

  • Jeanne leCube

    The makeup looks great.
