Ashley Madekwe at the 2013 Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

Posted on October 07, 2013

Girl, that’s your dress.

Ashley Madekwe attends the 2013 Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic held at the Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades, California in a Zimmermann dress paired with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals and a Jimmy Choo clutch.

Because it takes a special lady to take something fussy and make it look chic. To be honest, we don’t even think we like this dress, except when it’s on her. It helps that she’s giving face and wearing shoes that are just on the right side of delicate. It’s a nicely balanced look. The wrong hair and shoes, paired with such a fussy frock, would have made anyone look a little overwhelmed. Miss Ashley’s just floating by on a fashion cloud.

I do not like. She looks like she’s covered in handkerchiefs.

    • I can’t actually see the dress on her — can’t figure out its geography. What goes where?

      • mshesterp

I like it on her, but it does seem to make more sense on the model. You can see the body under the layers.

    • Sara Brams-Miller

    • Iva

She’s on her way to a figure-skating competition. After her bitter rival lit her suitcase on fire, her beleaguered and brassy show mother and fussy yet practical gay uncle had to stitch up a new costume out of the hotel drapes.

  • Little_Olive

Wow. I was prepared to call uncles TLo crazy with the first half of the picture, but seeing it all I wholeheartedly agree. And what legs!

  • GillianHolroyd

Huh. Heels that do *not* look like they are torturing her feet.

  • hughman

Looking genuinely happy and feeling fresh and pretty go a long long way towards selling a look. She aced it here.

    • teensmom99

I saw this after I commented. You’re 100% right, Hughman.

  • lexilexi

The backdrop, although I am all for flowers, is so wrong for red carpet photographs.

  • Blair Sylvester

the thing I miss most about her character was the way she wore clothes. She pulled of clothes that were more challenging then the rest of the cast and when she pulled it off she really looked great

    • DeebaCee

I stopped watching the show. What did they do to her character?

      • Blair Sylvester

Emily leaked information about the Graysons and then pointed her finger at Ashley as the source of the leak and Emily and Victoria teamed up and put her on a plane back to Croyden ( that didn’t blow up as far as we know

I think it’s sweet and feminine, appropriate for an outdoor daytime event. I agree, it’s not a dress for everyone — for very few — but it’s lovely on her.

  • So dainty and fresh. With just the barest hint of edge, thanks to the dark lip and severe hair.

  • ashtangajunkie

Very cute. She has a fantastic face.

  • Imasewsure

Damn another champagne-laced polo classic and I missed it!

    • 3boysful

I know, right? I’ll attend anything that’s Veuve Cliquot!

  • Random Compliments

    She looks so fresh! Beautiful.

  • I’ve never seen her or heard her name anywhere else on this site. This may be a case of gorgeous payola…

    • mimiadams191

She just left Revenge…. I always see her featured on fashion sites.

    • What kind of person makes an accusation based on nothing but their own ignorance?

  • teensmom99

She has the happy face of someone who knows that it is *her* dress.

  • marlie

I don’t like the dress, but I love the shoes.

  • MilaXX

I don’t hate the dress, it’s just too short for leggy Ashley.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I have never seen her act but I will say, the girl can wear nice clothes like a pro!

  • YoungSally

That’s half your dress — where’s the bottom??

  • Trickytrisha

Even on the junior goddess that is Ashley, I do no care for this dress. At all. Zip. Nada. Nope. Unlike the version on the model, there’s no definition between the bodice and the flouncy flappy stuff, thus she hasn’t a discernible shape in the upper part of the dress. I do like the skirt, which is, alas, too short. Perfect shoes and face though. I usually don’t care for slicked down hair that lies so close to the head, but she makes it work.

  • bertkeeter

Like fabric… Top just looks too “tucked in napkin like”! Skirt luv!

  • lrhg

I don’t like this dress on the model but she’s really making it work. I don’t know if it’s the camera or the surroundings or if this dress is a different color but the pinkish cast really helps. Makes the torso section look much less see-through.

  • nannypoo

I love this strange, floaty dress. I wish I could wear it. She looks beautiful.

    • Constant Reader

I like it too! I think in a knee length or slightly longer iteration it would have a delightful Nora Charles Gives A Cocktail Party In Her Park Avenue Hotel Suite vibe.

  • the_valkyrie

I think the most important question is why her dishy husband is not pictured often at her work do’s! (I’m a bit obsessed with his show, Peaky Blinders).

  • Diego!

I loved it! It looks perfect on her!!!

  • jmorino08

It’s better on the runway when it can move.

  • MoHub

    Tinkerbell in plaid.

  • oohsparkley!

She’s selling it and there aren’t many that could.

  • demidaemon

I have to disagree. I don’t like this dress even when it is on her. The only time it is remotely tolerable is when she is in profile, but you can’t stay in profile forever.
